Reviews of Indochine Kitchen
E.
Today I know what people mean by "love at the first sight"!
I'm in love with this restaurant the first second I eat the crispy tofu and the grilled tiger prawns.
Everything is just so yummy!
Particularly the grilled pork, amazing!!!
Chicken is absolutely great, juicy and tender.
Papaya salad is just delicious.
Grilled squid is a bit spicy but I love it!
I'm so gonna coming back again.
D.
Loved the spring rolls and the sauce !!! The beef was a quite tough and looked like different cut of meat but overall, pho was good. Just super friendly and wholesome service ❤️
J.
Cute little place with relaxed atmosphere. Food was really good. Waiter Glenn is a real character. Recommended for a fun time out with friends
J.
Fantastic, tasty food in a nice atmosphere!
Staff were friendly. Parking can be an issue as it's in Auckland CBD. Definitely worthwhile.
J.
If you're looking for some great Vietnamese food, this is the place! I have been twice and love the food! 🍜☺️ The ambience is great, the staff are very friendly and the food is amazing. I ordered pho ga and it was amazing!🥰
J.
I was here a couple of weeks ago, this is a beautifull little cossy restaurant in the middle of the city, i recommend go with a booking as it may fill up quite quickly.
We tryied the Goi Cuon, beautifully fresh, the Banh mi & pate was delicious, & the Banh Bao was all of what a bao has to be 🤤.
As for the mains we tried the Ga Xao Xa Ot, the chicken was perfectly balanced spiced and the subtle lemongrass flavour gave it a layer of freshness that made it stand out of any other chicken dish you will try, it goes off the usuall fatty driven flavour that is the norm in most chicken dishes, the chicken broth it comes with was subtle and with real chicken flavour, it has been a while since i tryied a proper chicken brot, and i am quite sure that there is any "chicken flavouring" added, it was clean, balanced and non of that gamey flavour other broths of this type can have, we also tried the Thit Kho, another delicious dish, packed full of flavour and juice, a total contrast with the subtle and delicate flavour of the chicken dish, great experience.
As for the dessert we tried the Banana Sago, we loved it, but if i could make a recommendation would be to easy on the caramelising of the sugar on top of the banana as it was a little bit bitter, still delicious.
They also have a couple of Vietnamese beers (Hanoi and Saigon, although they only had Saigon at that time) and a few local brews on tap.
Hope to go again and try the rest of the menu!
Cheers!

Delicious food and drink with prompt service. My girlfriend and I were served by the super friendly Glenn and Melanie who had great recommendations for what to order. Thank you!
O.
Very casual but still feeling intimate and quite at home here in Indochine. The Cocktails were great and the food tasty and authentic. With the prices they had I had plenty to try without breaking the bank in fort street. I always have the Bun Cha on my first meal at a new restaurant and it didn't disappoint! Their spring rolls are on point 👌 and would come back for the cravings it left in me the next day. Came out with a very light dinner but still satisfied. Would recommend to family and even my Vietnamese friends from overseas. I'll be back!
C.
Had the Goi Cuon, which were extremely well-prepared, really enjoyed the herb combination and freshness of the ingredients.
The charcoal grilled squid with the papaya salad was balanced perfectly.
Loved the baguette and pate which was served warm and toasted with the right amount of black pepper.
The Thit kho was very aromatic with the right touch of sweetness from the caramel.
The staff were lovely and the meal was a great start to level 1.
C.
A hidden gem in the Auckland city. If you are looking for a healthy and light dinner plus some drink, this is the place. Their cocktails are original and refreshing. Definitely will be back to try for another drink or two while dipping into Vietnamese cuisine. Happy hours is all weekend.
D.
My first time trying Vietnamese cuisine. There spring rolls are very flavorful and rich. I had a tofu noodle soup, a tofu salad and Vietnamese coffee in my mains. I would rank them 5/5 in customer service for the personalized service they render. I would highly recommend this place.
T.
Indochine Kitchen has been my favourite restaurant find for 2017. Service is fantastic, the beverage list is very pleasing and this is an exemplary standard of Vietnamese cuisine at its best, every dish is simply heavenly. Clean, fresh and fragrant flavours dance across your palate and you really feel transported elsewhere!
R.
My friend booked dinner here and they still had my favourite cocktail on the menu! It's the nha trang fizz <3 I haven't been here in years but so glad that it's still going strong, serving the nha tran fizz and staff are still warm and friendly. I'll be going here more often in future especially for drinks. Looking forward to my next experience at Indochine!
G.
Great cocktail/mocktail menu with roster of beers on tap. Happy hour specials (no hours listed on menu or signboard). Delicious home made vietnamese specialties leaning towards pork and seafood. Limited vegetarian/vegan options. Fresh rolls or tofu salad (ask for chili sauce and sriracha for the tofu). Unfortunately, no veg fried spring rolls. Most veg dishes have BBQ mushroom and or tofu. Friendly staff. Food nicely presented. Nice patio and charming menus and decor inside.
G.
AMAZING! Awesome service, super tasty flavourful cocktails and the vegan food on the menu is yummmmm. Really enjoyed our meal thank you.
P.
A relaxing resturant with simple decor but great staff and a welcoming enrty. The food was excellent and on time. Recommended
B.
Beef pho is slightly different than the normal ones. Soup is a little bland. The steamed buns were good. The pancake was tasty too.
금.
Second visit this time. We ordered buncha same as last time cause my wife wanted to eat. Food taste okay. BUT it took 30 mins to come out. Last time there were few customer, but alsto took 30 mins. They told me chef got accident. But this time there were 4 chefs working. No excuse.
L.
Delicious. Healthy. Fast. Fresh. Vegan options wonderful. Great prawns for him. Lychee and mint non alcs cocktail. Yummy!!
P.
Such an authentic Vietnamese meal experience! Very fast service. If you are familiar with Hanoi flavours you will love and be transported back to your holiday experiences. Highly recommend. Prices are cheap and cheerful too!
A.
Run by real Vietnamese people serving real Vietnamese food. As a Viet myself I felt right at home with the food they served. I had the pho xao hanoi and it had the right mix of grilled and fresh flavor.
S.
Delicious food, quick service and chill vibes. A bit noisy when it is busy, but that is part of the atmosphere. Would recommend for the vermicelli and pork dishes.
J.
This place is just amazing!! Some of the best Vietnamese food I've had outside of Vietnam and the people that work there are just incredible. Wonderful staff, great atmosphere and vibe and incredible food - it's no wonder I keep going back again and again. Cant speak highly enough of the quality food and outstanding service :)
D.
Amazing Vietnamese tapas and a great choice of Vietnamese-themed cocktails. A great place for quiet drinks with friends.
B.
Came here with a First Table voucher. Excellent experience and an interesting concept as it’s Vietnamese tapas. Delicious food and I recommend going for the Spicy Lemongrass Chicken (the actual name escapes me). Service was very friendly and attentive.
K.
Yum! Delicious pho. Great service. Good seating options outdoor and indoor.
M.
I went last night with my husband. We really enjoyed the food and the service. We ordered 2 starters, one was GỎI CUỐN (fresh rice rolls) and the other was BÁNH BAO (steamed bun with pork). Both Perfect portion size. Also we ordered baguette with pate as a starter. For main we got GÀ XÀO XẢ ỚT (spice chicken with rice and pickles) excellent balance of flavors, it wasn't spicy at all; and THỊT KHO (caramelized pork belly) it was so so tender like a butter.
We ordered dessert as well, banana sago (caramelized bananas with tapioca pearl and coconut milk), simple but delicious.
The ambient was good, small and warm place with a nice decoration.
Definitely I would like to come back to this place.
A.
Just tried this place for the first time and wish I had discovered it earlier, amazing fresh pork bao buns and coconut rice - will definitely be back!
Z.
An impromptu lunch with a girlfriend and the food recommended by the owner was delicious. Real authentic vietnamese food, cooked with the best sourced ingredients. I will definitely go back there and take more friends and family. Loved my first experience!
K.
Service was great, staff was lively and friendly. Food was fairly priced, but a bit too salty in my opinion (i had vegan fried noodles).
G.
Delicious Bun Cha Hanoi style tons of flavour up with the best I've had, only issue we both had is they gave half the amount of rice noodles needed to get full, for $24 you'd expect to have a full meal. Cocktails for $11 was a bonus, but they weren't strong enough so just had the 1. Worth going if you don't mind spending more to buy multiple meals and dishes tapa style (small dishes $8-10, large $18-24)
A.
Food - 10/10. Very tasty, good portions and the price is right. Pho is in a big bowl for $16 its pretty good. Caramelised Pork very tender and tasty. The beef stew is also very tender accdg to my fussy eater hubby he actually did like it.
Service - 7/10. We run out of water but no one came to refill. The staff are not very accommodating.
The music is too loud! Please lower the volume of your music as most customers want to have a conversation and not want the music blaring our ears.
Overall was a lovely experience :)
S.
Delicious! We were a party of four and ordered dishes to share: a pork bahn mi, the duck salad with mango, beef noodle salad, and pork ribs. All were delicious, washed down with an excellent local IPA. The service was friendly and prompt and we enjoyed sitting at the outdoor table. The only thing we would change is that we wish they would lose the loud rap music.
M.
loved it. it is a slightly expensive when you consider the portion of a meal, but, it was absolutely worth it!
M.
Nice place for a lunch time feed and drink.
Nice menu, not too long. Good selection of drinks, and friendly staff.
Decor is rustic, high chairs and tables.
On the main strip, so easy to pop in for a quick bite, or a place to meet colleagues for a group meal.
R.
Amazing food and great front of house staff. Felt welcome and valued. Great dinner had by all
L.
Loved our Bún chả and Phở bò with chicken skewer starters. An explosion of flavours, but well balanced, and just the right amount of food for us. The owners clearly take pride in creating a good atmosphere.
R.
Auckland can be expensive, especially in the summer near the wharf but we found a little gem of a restaurant open after 8:30 pm and we had a most interesting experience talking to the owner, table-side, while we waited for our orders. We were so impressed by the hospitality of the man talking to us (I wish I remember his name) and his guidance with the menu, that I offered to write his restaurant a great review, not knowing there are already many uploaded on multiple websites. The food was really tasty and something different. That said, I suspect we got lucky to have the ability to share stories with the owner. Our time getting there was late and only a few customers were eating outside. But looking at the pictures here, I can see it's a hopping place in the summer months. Check it out.
G.
Not quite the tapas menu that I expected purely from the outside sign; more just like good entree list but then primarily focused on the mains. We went during Restaurant Month where they had a 3 course menu + cocktail for $40 which was a great deal and was pretty delicious overall. The cocktails were unique and tasty. Otherwise, expect to spend more than that outside of this promo month if ordering from the regular menu. Perhaps we'll go again and try to order entrees just as tapas, but I feel like we'd kept getting asked if we want a main. The manager was nice, but some of the other requests we had for the wait staff were met with confusion like "could we take home out desert? We're quite full".
S.
Omg. You have to eat here. I'm staying at an Airbnb with loads of restaurants around and I keep coming back here. It's that tasty. Im ordering food that I wouldnt usually go for and its still tasty. And the staff are great.
c.
Perfect for a light, quick dinner, which was just what we required at the time. Food was great
A.
Nice healthy super tasty food. Really love the tapas style as you can try many small dishes. Good value, good service and a good drinks menu too. So glad we tried it on our visit to Auckland.
S.
The cocktails are really refreshing, not the classic ones that you find everywhere.
The food was a disappointment. The pork and squid balls were unremarkable, the papaya salad was meh and the chicken inside it was rubbery. We also ordered a noodles dish with beef. The beef was well cooked but the noodles were too salty and uninteresting tastewise.
I'd say it's a nice place for a drink and nothing more. Maybe I was just unlucky with the food choices...
A.
Food was average. Portion is small than I expected.
Boyfriend quite enjoyed it though
N.
An amazing hidden gem.
I have have some of the best Vietnamise food ever here, I had lunch there and it came in under $25 which is saying something for New Zealand prices. I would highly recommend and I will be coming back for dinner. Also it has amazing staff.
R.
Probably the most best kept secret in all of Auckland. Service? Incredible. Style? Flawless. Taste? Blow you away.
Thank you for such an amazing evening.
S.
Indochine Kitchen is a great place to eat. The staff are extremely friendly and the food is delicious. 1 salad and 3 small plates were perfect for 2 of us.
p.
If you like vietnamese food that’s the place to go!!
T.
Small cosy space menu is designed to share like tapas. Authentic as you can get outside of Vietnam
B.
Great experience, genuine and delicious Vietnamese cuisine. Very helpful and friendly staff. Absolutely recommended.
R.
The food was a bit bland and small portioned for the cost. I came here with a grab one voucher and would have been very disappointed if I had paid full price.
M.

Amazing food and great service. A go to for yummy Vietnamese food.
M.
Really good food, but the staff was sort of diaorganized on the night we went, a Wednesday. There was alot of confusion over what dishes were still available, and while we did get something delicious, it took several rounds of ordering.
r.
What a wonderful eatery. Good portions, food quality and good prices and great service
J.
Food was good and the service also. The place has a simple but distinctive style with black and white photos on the walls. Didnt try the rest room facilities.
G.
Nice set up. Good vegetarian options though people I was with found some dishes (vege and meat) surprisingly bland. Attractively presented food. Friendly service. Toilets unpleasant.

(Translated) My partner's friend recommended this Vietnamese restaurant to us. They said that the Vietnamese food in the second burst 𝕞𝕒𝕝𝕝 we tried it last night, and it is hidden in a very inconspicuous location in the city center. The environment in the store is really nice, there are old photos on one wall, showing the history, culture and customs of Vietnam 🇻🇳 to diners, very ♥ feel ♥
.
🧾Meals we ordered:
✔️Signature Vietnamese Beef Rice Noodles
The beef soup is very fresh! This is a representative dish of Vietnam, and it is eaten for breakfast when traveling in Vietnam. His family has a lot of beef and not much rice noodles. It is recommended to eat it with other dishes or you will not be full.
.
✔️Vietnamese Fried Spring Rolls (Vegetarian)
$8 for 6 plain spring rolls with thin skin and large filling, I think it's a good deal! There are shredded vegetables, shredded carrots, shredded fungus, etc., which are very healthy and delicious😋, the outer skin is fried and crispy, and eaten with the secret dipping sauce of millet pepper, absolutely 👍
.
✔️Roast beef with pineapple juice
So tender! The shape is made of beef bones 🦴 forged with bamboo shoots, the beef is grilled with steak meat 🥩 minced and charcoal, with the unique spices of Vietnam and pineapple juice 🍍 for the enjoyment of taste buds!
.
✔️ Lemongrass Grilled Squid Roll
The small bowl 🥣 under the squid is the fried spring roll skin! edible! Fragrant and crispy😋 The squid roll is huge, the heat is just right, and it is tender and good to bite😆
.
🍹Drinks:
His bar is so suitable for ordering two cups of concave atmosphere at night! The cocktails are all pretty, with low alcohol content and a bit sweet; you can also choose a series of sparkling beverages without alcohol, and they look pretty good too.
Anyway, I recommend it~
(Original)

(Translated) Small restaurant with Vietnamese dishes. Alone, only high chairs, we do not stay long. In appearance too, you do not feel especially in Vietnam, I loved the decorations that stick with the city. But the dishes ... Excellent, tasty! We feel that there is a chef in the kitchen! Hence the prices a little high, but it's worth it to eat there, really!
(Original)
