V.Kazuya is right up there with our favourite restaurants. The food was amazing, they have a great wine list and the service was great. Overall an outstanding experience and we will definitely be back :)

B.Kazuya is such an experience. 10 courses of amazing and incredibly diverse flavours later, you will feel like you’ve been on an epic journey (the 3 hour runtime will definitely add to that feeling).
Highlights for me were the Venison Tataki, Snapper broth, and the Wagyu.
The courses are very well curated down to the increased wait between courses as the dishes get heavier and the use of sharp flavours to reset the palate.
M.The food is outstanding. Probably the best Japanese fusion around town. Beautifully executed and you will savour every single mouthful. One or two might be a trifle too rich (and therefore affects the overall balance) but still cooked extremely well. I won't say we loved every single plate as 2 didn't wow us; hence the 4 stars. Eg we didn't think the 30 seasonal veg was worth the hype (sorry).
Service was impeccable. Nothing to fault there.
The major fault was that the restaurant is too small and therefore there isn't an area to seat such groups seperately from the other diners. We had a group of 10 during our dinner and the noise made by these slightly drunk diners spoilt the entire atmosphere. Not condusive to an intimate night out if you are unlucky to have such a boisterous bunch dining together. We could hardly hear ourselves talk and had to strained our ears when our wait staff informed us of the dishes. So in spite of all the low light, plush seating, etc, our romantic date night was thoroughly affected by diners who weren't too comsiderate of other.

This restaurant is offering an end-to-end experience like few others do here in Auckland. From the carefully curated drinks lists via the impeccable service to the astoundingly creative dishes, this place ticks all the boxes.
You owe it to yourself to experience dinner here - even if (like in our case) you only get ready for dinner at close to 9pm and can only make the 5 course.
Full points, and certainly one of my favourite restaurants in this town!
L.Had the 7-course degustation and felt it was the perfect amount of food. Not too much and not too little! Loved the creativity in the dishes and the interesting pairings of ingredients, which all worked harmoniously. My favourites were the prawn sashimi, 30 textured vegetables, angus beef, and the incredible bread. I’m surprised Kazuya doesn’t have more Google reviews - it definitely deserves them (and 5-star ones)!
L.I went for a 7 course degustation and I wholeheartedly agree with others who gave three out of five ratings. Service was top notch and friendly. However the food looked disappointing and tasted average. I have been to several degustations at other restaurants in Auckland. The signature texture dish does not have a cohesive taste that works well together. It was bitter at times and did not taste pleasant. The desserts were awesome, inventive and had great flavours. The photo taking by staff and service saved the lacklustre experience.

A.Really lovely meal with super friendly staff. We had the Degustation meal and the food was amazing. It was nice to have a vegetarian plate in the mix, it’s not something we had seen before and we all thoroughly enjoyed it. A couple of little grumbles about staff not able to understand us and bringing the wrong drinks but they more than made up for it in the very friendly and nice way they handled our table of 8. I would visit again.

The cuisine is innovative and the courses flowed seamlessly from one to the next. We were wowed, delighted, surprised and in heaven. If we had to pick a favourite it would be ‘texture’...oh, and the alfonsino in the mushroom and leek broth, heavenly. Domo arigato!

Best Japanese style restaurant in New Zealand. Without parallel. This is an exceptional and cosy treasure. The tasting menu will wow you Quite one of the most memorable dining experiences. OK. It has a secret location, I know that this iss part of it's charm. Super staff.

L.The ambience of this restaurant is great, the service is very attentive, the food is delicious and the chef is very creative, which is commendable.
R.Exquisite service, very receptive to dietary requirements, and they will actually put thought into the changes they make per your requests. The food is brilliant and the different textures and flavours are far from boring. Once, however, they had too many mushroom dishes in the degustation and it wasn't the best, but 99.9% of the time you can expect the finest food and service. The location is nice and discreet, and the dining room is usually quiet, perfect for an intimate experience. Extra points because the chef will say farewell to every party that has dined and gives a small token of something sweet to the lady/ladies upon leaving.

B.Kazuya is one of the finest restaurants I have been to in Auckland. The seating is segmented allowing a level of privacy and conversation. The mood is romantic, pleasant with overtones of Japanese culture.
The staff were professional, helpful and knowledgeable. Wide rang if wines to choose from too.
The food and dishes were nothing I have ever experienced before, the fusion is very unique. This was seriously next level, incorporating an array of flavours across the pallets blended with different textures.
Overall such a wide range of tastes to enjoy in a pleasant setting. Be prepared to spend $$
B.Upmarket decor and moody ambience made this a somewhat strange experience. The lunch sets had some really delicious options but as per its upmarket placement were very restrained in size. Not sure the value was here favouring dish complexity over the simple deliciousness of fewer ingredients in contrast to traditional Japanese cuisine. The meal was good but I think with the pricetag it garnered something was a little missing. Maybe even if that was soul.

F.Great place for special occasions. I loved the fact the chef took into account allergies and special requests. It's pricier than your average restaurant but for what you get it's definitely very good value. Plenty of small dishes so that you can taste different things and feeling full in the end. Very friendly staff and chef and loved the original plates and bowls. Only remark is that I sometimes missed harmony between the ingredients of the dishes but that's just my personal taste.

P.It’s been a couple of years since I last dined here. Why have I waited so long? Another fabulous meal. My daughter and I had the 7 course menu, her the vegetarian option and me with meat and fish. It was superb. Many great courses from amuse bouche , the taro and rosemary foam starter through to the most Devine chocolate and salted caramel desert via onion ice-cream and 30 vegetables. We loved it all.

We both had the $85 set menu and found this to be exceedingly good value for the experience we received.
The food is exquisite. Each mouthful is sensational. The tastes are subtle and surprising, the texture an experience all on its own, and the presentation is first rate.
The service was impeccable, completely non-intrusive but always at hand, and enough character to ensure they were memorable. The timing of the 10 courses was perfect.
I would be doing the Sommelier a disservice if I did not mention him individually - wonderful in every respect.
Definitely not for those who need a bowl of pasta or chips in order to feel they've had value for money but we left completely satisfied in ever respect.
I couldn't recommend more highly. A perfect restaurant for a special occasion
R.Very sophisticated stuff, possibly a bit over the top in my view. The main course of my nine course meal had so many components, the serving size of each one being pretty minuscule, that by the time I found something I enjoyed on my plate, I'd already finished it. This may just be a sign that my palate isn't ready for such high bar cuisine though... if you're into this kind of thing you'll probably love it.

P.If you are in Auckland for a few days and want to treat yourself to a great experience in gourmet dining, make sure you make reservation for Kazuya and go for the full 10 course meal. You will not regret it. when you make reservation, let them know your allergies and they will adjust the ingredient for the set menu meal for you. You won't know what the menu looks like till you get there and it is by reservation only. Great treat for a special occasion. Chef Kazuya came out to say goodbye and took photo with us after the meal!
F.Unassumingly located in the Eden Terrace neighborhood with only a simple name in front to tell us of its existence, but its door opens to a wonderful gastronomic experience. I've tried this with my wife, and we truly loved the food. Great taste. Great presentation. Great service. Great IG moments. Lol. Food is paired with great wines and sake. The price is worth it.

The Japanese scallop was huge and creamy, just gorgeous. The most memorable course of the night for me (and my wife) though was the Wagyu beef though - probably the best beef I've ever tasted. Tender, tasty, lip smackingly savoury deliciousness! Great service and wine matching was interesting too (sparkling sake was lovely). Quantity was good too, though very full by end of night. W.Culinary Elegance. Chef Kazuya will take you on a journey as you experience his unique take on European Cuisine with Japanese Influences.
This hidden gem and I say hidden because if you were to look outside you would be forgiven to walk right past it without noticing. Outside is a simple white building wedged between a bunch of takeaway shops and convenience stores. It's only when you take a moment and look in the window that you see the name Kazuya.
Inside is a warm inviting atmosphere that draws you in and gives you a sense of homeliness, with very attentive staff who cater to your every need. I can't speak highly enough of the overall customer service that Kazuya's staff brings to the restaurant, it gives you a sense of being a guest at someone's house rather than just another customer.
I highly suggest choosing the seven course degustation menu as you get a well rounded mix of what Kazuya has to offer. My personal favourite dishes on our last visit was a tie between the Swordfish with Burdock, Cavolo nero, Vin blanc sauce and yuzu shavings, and "Texture" their signature dish which features 30 different seasonal vegetables with prosciutto. If you're in Auckland and want to experience something exciting then make a booking at Kazuya, we can't wait until our next visit.

K.(Translated) Definitely No.1 in myself. It's the best Japanese-owned store in Auckland. I've been to it many times, but I've never had a bad time. Great performance, courteous staff, cospa, whatever. Kazuya on the North Island and Kinji in Christchurch on the South Island are amazing.
