Reviews of Ken Yaki Tori Bar
J.
Do not make my mistake Yakitori on back page :-) huge selection. House sale very nice hot. Have Asahi on tap. Prices great, food was so good forgot to take pictures. Small and cozy, great for a group of 4/6 people.
J.
Awesome place, nice decor. Friendly waitress.
Ordered okonomiyaki, beef curry and miso, very delicious and scrumptious. It's been over 5 years since I had those dishes that my wife cooked.
You all need to try, and edulge yourselves in fine Japanese cuisine.
J.
Thank you for a great night upstairs. Hot evening, everyone was melting, but who cares 😄 the lovely waitress put on the fan for us and let us play our music...so relaxed and organized with the food! Delicious! we all had a great night!! Thanks Ken Yaki Tori Bar
J.
Hey guys, had a really awesome experience here. My friend had a red wine corked that needed opening. No bottle opener at restaurant, so she went to the next door store & alas, they had some corkscrews for sale! Yahtzee. Looks to her left, there’s the waiter purchasing that needed corkscrew. We both run back to byo. It’s a race. Who wins, doesn’t matter. It’s all about the service.fast and Dedicated.
J.
Good food. It was quieter this time but still good service
B.
Love love love this place.
My favourite resturant in Auckland with the best tuna sashimi!
Great little byo spot on Krd.
Highly recommend
S.
I like their beef Tongue 😝 that I always go back for. There are counter seats where you can enjoy your meal n watching grilling yakitori. But the price is a little too high for what they are but they still taste good n their service is consistently good n smiley.

This Yakitori bar is so adorable and comfy, and open super late! I just finished eating there and it's 9:50pm. Situated in a super convenient place along K road, it's easy to get there via public transport or car since it's basically right near the k Road Road/symmonds street intersection. I ordered the beef tataki, Pork belly with onion skewers and the 3 ice cream dessert dish accompanied by a green tea drink. The meal was super affordable, coming to $35.50.
The waitresses were polite and attentive, always watching your movements to see if you need more food or drinks. They have a toilet as well, it's upstairs. I highly recommend this place!
J.
Awesome place to catch a few drinks with friends, (even solo), best Yakitori *Japanese bbq skewers* in Auckland, every order of yakitori come in 2 skewers,Good to share and go down with a good plum wine, sake or a few beers. I Would recommend the Chicken thighs with cheese is the best, beef Sirlon, Pork belly with onion and yum yum prawns are very yum yum. Enjoyable atmosphere staff are very pleasant.
H.
Cabbage used to be free but it's no longer free. Yaki Tori very good as always. Wasn't as crowded so it was good.
S.
Friendly and helpful staff. Food was amazing
A.
Probably my favourite restaurant in Auckland. Incredibly authentic food served by amazing staff that take dedication to their craft to a whole new level. Small and no bookings for good reason. Get here early for a thoroughly genuine Japanese experience. The Asahi on tap isn't bad either :)
J.
Ken's had a great vibe, friendly staff, and the skewers(cooked on charcoal at the bar) are superb
B.
Great experience and awesome food! Will definitely be coming back next time I'm in Auckland!
E.
Great food and really nice atmosphere. The staff were helpful and very friendly. Great little place to enjoy Japanese food.
D.
Wife and I come here all the time. Great food and staff was attentive to our needs. As food was in small platters it was nice to get a constant stream of it rather than all at once so it didn't get cold. Being nice and cozy, it presents a warm welcoming atmosphere. Will definitely be back.
G.
Terrific food, ambience, excellent service and very reasonably priced.
J.
Like this place. Kind staff and juicy chicken skewer! :)
H.
Awesome little spot with a great selection of delicious skewers. We got the vege combo and some meat skewers and they were all really delicious and fresh. Perfect for gluten and or dairy free friends 😊 lovely staff
A.
Fantastic simple food! Can’t wait to come back!! Good yakitori veggie options into the mix as well!
D.
Excellent food, service and atmosphere
B.
Great grill, delicious bites, so happy to visit here.
S.
Warm atmosphere, attentive service with great food and drinks. Gor a table in front of the grill so we could watch the food being prepared. Well worth a return trip, probably a regular return.
T.
Mate - just get here and try some bloody skewers. Wonderful tastes all the way ‘round and worth the time spent with friends awaiting their fresh preparation!
N.
One of the best meals we’ve had in a long time. So good!! Staff are lovely. It’s a bit of a tight space but that’s the vibe and its definitely worth it. Shocked by how inexpensive the bill was also. Thank you! We’ll be back very soon.
A.
Good atmosphere, they welcome you as you enter and the food is decently priced and delicious.
Delicious is kinda the key element here, been a few time now and thought it deserved a review as it has lived upto a 5star both times now.
Well done guys :)
F.
It has lunch special, set menu, $15 - $16. Pretty good for group event. Food tastes great. A great place to go for group lunch.
I.
Service was a tad slow, but the food was absolutely A+, great if you have friends to chat away with. Great atmosphere and smells!
P.
Ordered the 5-skewer combo. The salmon and prawn were beautifully done, and the chicken mince meatballs were so good with the Dijon mustard. Wished the scotch beef could have been done to medium instead of well, though. Ordered the Julienne salad (to appease my conscience), and it was fresh and tasty. Lastly, the prawn tempura udon. An absolute comfort food especially on a rainy day like this. The flavourful broth was a delight, and the noodles done just right, with a springy texture.
D.
This place has a great atmosphere, very cosy, and shuts out K Rd completely. The food is nice, I definitely recommend the agedashi tofu, it was delicious. If you want a fun drink get the sparkling jelly sake, sounds weird but I really enjoyed it.
K.
The food quality is not as good as before. The cabbage is hard and dry. The meat and the seasoning are not up to standard. The whole atmosphere is not that authentic anymore. Besides the food quality, it is bit pricing as well.
S.
Fantastic food, excellent friendly service, best Japanese restaurant in Auckland. Have never faulted the food. It is busy and there's a slight wait time during peak hours but well worth the wait.
L.
Small place... Cozy... I loved this place! Great food!
S.
Always a decent meal and good atmosphere. Would have been a 5 but food this time wasn't to the usual level, maybe because they were so busy.
Z.
The older and the larger of the two Ken Bars int he inner CBD. Has very well priced drinks at much cheaper prices, especially for Sake by the bottle. Food wise it does not quite compare to the Anzac store next to Mentatz. We found the skewers mostly overcooked and drier in comparison.
The fried chicken serving also seemed smaller.
B.
My favorite Japanese restaurant in the city. Great food and atmosphere. The fried chicken was previously voted the best in Auckland and I can understand why.
C.
I eat at Japanese restaurants weekly. This hidden little gem in the heart of K road AUCKLAND an incredible gem, with an authentic setting and tradutiinal food. Found one dish I love and have not seen on any Japanese menu here in NZ. I highly recommend the raw octopus in wasabi. Thank you was a fantastic evening will be back ummm tomorrow hehe
R.
Pretty good Yakitori for Auckland. I ordered way too much as I normally do when I dine alone at such restaurants. Had the chicken thighs, heart, ox tongue, scallops, and the vegetable platter. All grilled just so. Highly recommended and will be back!
J.
Nice little place. We went on a friday night and it was a mix of couples, businessmen and families. The servers were really accommodating to families and it's a great environment.
The food was delicious and there are a good range of drinks
T.
Beef Curry and kababs are nice here, the place is very cosy; good service. I recommend going with a group but if you go by yourself, sit near the chef table it's a pretty cool to see the chef cook up and you can get also an idea of what you want to have.
G.
The owner is lovely and experianced in an authentic Japanese experiance .. thnx to owner and chef.. PS .. ask about the locals special. Apartment in 5 mins walk 5% off.
A.
Good vibe. The raw meat options were better than the cooked ones which tended to be a bit chewy. Definitely above average.
J.
Love Ken's! Great karaaga chicken. Got the highball drink which was perfect. Every other skewer I got was delicious and tasty. Seasoned beautifully. Highly recommend this place
A.
Delicious authentic Japanese food, good ambience and fast and friendly service.
E.
Great place to eat, an Auckland institution! Excellent service and delicious food.
Y.
Wow now this takes me back to Japan
Very very good quality!
People here are so friendly
And the food is just so good!
So much choice!!
Thank you!
S.
Once upon a time Ken’s Yakitori at Krd was grate. I did notice that the last propably 5,6 years is going downfalls. The food has changed, got smaller but price wise still ok. My karage chicken was the worst that I have eaten, ikageso not exactly right.Generally all the portions got smaller and taste has changed. Nothing to say wow or get impressed. Lucks from atmosphere and I think the shop is been let down. Not really clean as it should be for an eating place. Am I going back? No.
L.
Great place for a quick eat and drink, price is good. Nice atmosphere. Could improve on their sake and whisky selection.
M.
This restaurant is completely different from all the other Japanese restaurants I have been in NZ. Really good.
M.
We felt we were in Kyoto japan all over again, what an amazing place, staff and the quality of food.
Great prices!
M.
Great little place, can get a bit crowed but worth it for the great food.
Beer was good and the food was great, the spicy chicken was really spicy and the been tongue was full of flavour.
B.
This was the best food we had during our weekend in Auckland
E.
Probably the best Yaki Tori bar in Auckland. Food is delicious, place is small with limited tables, which makes it like home. Must go if you like japanese BBQ.
D.
Delicious food. Excellent service and atmosphere. Ambient music at the most optimal level to allow conversation, or to enjoy if alone...
A.
We were on the second floor and I'd say that probably needs a bit of music up there to create a better atmosphere. Food was good but nothing crazy.
I.
Best service, best karaage chicken , best prices!!! amazing lunch spot. hosts are always friendly and the music is pumping, the atmosphere is great
P.
Genuine Japanese experience. Food done well. Service quick and friendly. Going back soon.
S.
This restaurant is simply superb. It offers authentic Japanese cuisine, friendly service and great value.
A.
This place is always the best! The food is awesome, great service and price. The best part is the authenticity, grungy, a bit of a mess, but it's a great little place.
W.
We love the Anzac Rd branch but the service at the K Rd restaurant was disappointing with 5 errors. 3 wrong orders and 2 billing errors.
S.
Items off the grill were delicious. The udon broth was also outstanding. Great value
S.
One of the better Japanese bar branches. Good tasting menu but poor service most times going there.
K.
Really friendly atmosphere and the food is ok but the selection of beers are awesome.
S.
Fast and pleasant service. A bit different to other Yaki Tori bars in Auckland. Great location, cute building.
L.
Great yakitori, the Kara age chicken, beef tongue and pork belly with onion are our favorites. Sake also if course.
D.
Great food, loved the service. Cant wait to go back.
M.
Such good food and drink. Very authentic experience and reminded me off my time in Japan. Thanks guys!!

A.
Great food and atmosphere (especially when the chef greets you from behind the grill)
F.

I.

L.

The Best an most authentic Yakitori Bar I have found in a while! The Staff are Japanese, super friendly, and the Sapporo & Asahi on tap is highly recommended with your Yakitori! Arigatou!!
K.

(Translated) I interrupted you several times during my stay at work.
Yakitori is grilled on charcoal and very delicious. Other Japanese food menus were also of high quality throughout.
I heard that New Zealand has strict regulations, and most of the ingredients, including chicken and charcoal, are produced and procured in New Zealand. It seems that soy sauce is imported.
The clerks are all Japanese, but of course most of the customers were New Zealanders. However, it was very Japanese style that everyone did not go to the table to go to the cashier with a slip, but there was something interesting about it.
If you have the chance to go to Auckland, it is definitely one of the places to go.
