Nice food for late night dinner, been here last decade. The ox tongue in the combo was always overcooked, otherwise everything was good. I noticed the hearty beef soup was more like a stew, it was tasty not too salty. Their chicken wings were one of favorite nicely grilled.

Never a let down! Staff are attentive and friendly. Food is consistent and always to a high standard. Although the space is small , I thoroughly recommend this place

Some of the best food I've had in years! Great service, delicious yakitori that look simple but are steeped in skill and craftsmanship! A real Food experience and one we will remember for a long time! Well... We're back again. Still fantastic! Food and atmosphere are so good!

An unforgettable experience for Japanese barbecue in Auckland - I already want to go back right now as I am typing haha. The food and the vibe of dinning here remind me of my experience in Japan, I feel I was back in Japan. Our dinner is $40 per person, including a small bottle of sake and a glass of plum wine.

This is one of my favorites place in Auckland to grab a warm sake during those windy cold nights. The food is to die for, everything is mouthwatering. I literally got into a food coma once I left this place. Staff members are attentive and always ready to help you.

Went there in the evening time, lots of crowd, but the friendly staffs managed it well. Tasty skewers with different variety of choices, chicken, beef, prawn, pork belly, yummy!! Also there's side dishes like udon, beef tataki, all nicely done. Has been running in this place for years and Japanese are still running it well. Highly recommended if you like Yakitori.

Cosy intimate spot, with authentic yakitori. The beef tataki was super yum there was a hint of spiciness. The sashimi was great, most memorable was the dark coloured tuna. First time I’ve had it. The smoky bbq flavours both the food and you 😋

Was craving yakitori one night years ago and discovered this. Been coming here since then. Perfect for a night of drinking with friends. We love almost all the skewers, especially the chicken cartilage, we order it everytime but sometimes it's sold out. They give you free cabbage to munch on with free refill as well. Staff are friendly, good customer service. Prices are reasonable but be careful coz it could easily stack up. Highly recommended👍

A good place to eat barbecue, went to twice, the first user experience is very good, serving food very quickly, beef tongue, corn, chicken heart are very delicious, but the second time to go, waiting for a long time, nearly half an hour, Fried chicken skin not delicious. The attitude of the waiter is not bad, and the interior decoration is very atmosphere.

Best to always make reservations, very friendly staffs but since a lot of people coming in at the first 6pm reservation time all order at the same time, the hot foods will take almost 30 to 45 mins to come out. The chicken wing skewers are my favourite.

My wife and I dined here, late on a Saturday night, after a concert at Spark Arena it was 5min easy walk. The place was busy but we were quickly seated and provided Menus etc. We loved it for its authentic Japanese look and feel. The food was excellent and so was the beer. Will be back again for sure. 5

Food experience wasn't too bad. The chicken was a tad too crunchy and dry but the rest of the dishes were nice. Seating was limited and cramped here.

Yakitori was pretty good and kitchen menus were just okay. I kindly recommend to have many kinds of yakitoris as u want with your favorite drink , seems kitchen staffs doesnt really know how to serve foods in proper order so takes forever to have dishes from there and they also cook curry by instant solid curry from japanese supermarket which hard to blame. Dont forget this resto is yakitori bar not dumpling or curry store still I gave 4 stars due to the fact It's really hard to find decent resto in nz

İt's very otantic place. Food is delicious but we ordered small sashimi and large sushi platter with other yakitori staff.they brought sushi and yakitori in one plate which is half covered with stones and sea shells. Sushi platter was $48 only 8 Sushi. Total rip off. Most expensive Sushi I've ever had. Only 3 stars because of cosy atmosphere. I don't recommend the food if you are hungry

Very Japanese style BBQ, you would be wondering if you are in Japan. Only missing is BBQ fish in th menu.

Great selection of small plates of food. The staff were attentive, friendly and quick, you can't ask for much more. The karaage chicken was amazing and what made it even better was smelling all the delicious meat skewers being cooked over coals while we were eating. Definitely give this place a try.

Authentic Japanese Yakidori bar in Auckland near by Auckland University. It is very cosy and crowded place at night time so very bumpy among customers and servers. However, all these atmosphere make this place more special and genuine from beginning to end of your dining. You should accept it only allow stay up to 2 hrs at busy night due to limit of tables and seats. But you will enjoy smoke taste from Japan.

Normally I love this place but tonight the server always gets the order wrong. And my favourite part the free cabbage is so tiny had to ask for 3 refills, made us feel bad. Why so stingy? Cabbage is so cheap!

Awesome experience and great tasting food. Definitely close quarters and loud but lively atmosphere. The beef tongue and the hearty miso were my favorite. Service was fast and even had a call button for the wait staff.

Just landed in Auckland, Just needed something to eat and a cold beer. This place delivered exactly what I needed plus more, cozy hole in the wall type atmosphere, happy staff great food, Try the spicy chicken - Hot ! but good. What a great spot. Not sure why this restaurant got some negative reviews. I had a great experience. Seated on the counter, nice view and learning experience of the Japanese style bbq. Place was crowded but service was fast and always with a smile. Food was tasty, fresh and good quality; good selection of yakitory; not as many as you usually get in Japan but still a good variety. All staff rigorously Japanese complete the experience listening them repeating the food orders and greeting people entering and leaving the restaurant. Only one negative point if any: the bbq smoke in the restaurant. An effort to improve the ventilation hood will go a long way. Good. Nice job.

I'll definitely be back! Some of the best Yakitori I've ever had. Top of my list for authentic Japanese cuisine in Auckland. Well priced and a good selection. Highly recommend the prawn and pork option. Nice sake available too.

Food is really delicious, especially the hot sake is perfect for cold and windy weather in Auckland. The decor and the food is good. Please do make table reservation before you visit that place. It's generally open till midnight.

What a gem! We were given a great table with no reservation and blown away by the wonderful service. Big sushi lovers but first time in a proper yakitori place we were well impressed. Tried most of the menu and loved it! Got sushi and sashimi, of course, which were of the highest quality. The star of the show were the awesome yakitori skewers. Excellent variety and flavours. Great value makes it easy to try new menu items. Very kid friendly and simply superb service. Wish we had a place like this back in Ireland.

Probably the best yakitori bar and grill. The flavours and overall atmosphere brings you a true Japanese experience right in the heart of Auckland city. Service top notch, my favourite part is getting a seat right by the grill and watch the chef grilling away those awesome looking skewers. Worth a try if you are into Japanese cuisine.

My favourite go to place for a delicious yakitori. With a hot sake, the night can only get better. All the dishes are delicious but it is a bit pricey.

This is my favorite Japanese restaurant in Auckland. Good environment, amazing food, kind waitress. My top choice is hot sake. Hahaha

fantastic food and service! place was absolutely packed so you definitely know you're in the right pace. The $14 special for the yakitori is worth a go, fried garlic was interesting and actually tasted fantastic, the takoyaki was great, and the karaage chicken was crunchy (although it didn't come with any sauce which is a shame).

Always a great date night at Ken's. All of the servers are super nice, and it's mesmerizing to watch the yakitori chef work their magic... oh and the food is super delicious too.

Ordered sushi and took over 1.20H just for few pieces and in a sushi train it takes like 1.5 min to get your favourite 🍣! Slow and food is ok but the skews are delicious! Some people were kind and gave us some refunds it’s not a bad place to go but it was a bit nerve wrecking because I was almost late for a concert because of waiting!

This is the real deal for yakitori and for an actual Japanese bar experience. Exactly what bars are like in Japan. They have a range of drinks from high balls to Japanese beer. Food is delicious. I highly recommend this place check it out if you want an authentic experience.

Great traditional charcoal skewers. Probably the best and most authentic option in Auckland.

Another night at Ken; about once a season. They're very busy so I suggest reservations, which by the way, may be timeboxed like a 2 hr seating guarantee and that's it. While you'll spend a lot for a little given how it's mostly little skewers to share, it's good at least which is the whole reason you'd go. Karaage chicken for the non adventurers is good to even the fried octopus balls, beef tongue and other skewers are surprisingly good too despite what unfamiliar food it may be to some. Beer on menu is very basic as expected but get the sake instead.

Authentic izakaya experience. The (free) cabbage with dip is interesting. Definitely try chicken gizzard and cartilage for something different. I'd say to stick with their skewers.

The skewers here were superb, best I've had yet. Shame Sydney doesn't have places like this. We ordered the 5 skewer special with tap beer and individual skewers after. Probably about 4-7 skewers each will fill you up.

Small but cozy place. The Yakitoris are tasty but only comes 2 per portion. Open until very late and Sundays too so always a safe choice.

If you want to have some Japanese "Izakaya" (Japanese style bar) experience in New Zealand, Yakitori KEN is recommended. They are a "Yakitori" (skewered chicken) bar but they have a variety of menu of food and drinks. I felt the atomospher was real Japanese style izakaya. Let's try it.

absolutely a delight from aesthetic and friendly enthusiastic greeting (with attentive service) to spot on dishes and bbq chef grilling right behind the bar. took another reviews advice on the fried Camembert; brilliant. ignore the ketchup and dust the chili pepper on instead. udon noodles are fragrant and delicious beautifully presented in a cast iron pot over burner. grab an Orion and cold sake to follow; kanpai!

Still great 10 years on! - Fantastic skewers with amazing smokey BBQ taste. Fried Camembert and a beer or two are a must. The chicken and pork belly skewers are smokey perfection!
