Reviews of Le Bistro des Gourmets
S.
Amazing service and food! The menu changes with the seasons and everything is sourced locally. Their terrines, bread, dips are all made by the chef and it is seriously delicious! I highly recommend this place and personally cannot wait to be back there!
D.
Went for dinner with a work group... set menu and wines to match, phenomenal experience. Goats Cheese Brulee was the highlight along with the amazing French passion from our host. Please go, you won't be disappointed.
A.
Excellent service, great quality food and good value for money. The atmosphere and location on the second floor takes you away from the hustle and bustle on the street. Perfect date night!
M.
We had an amazing, relaxed long lunch here before our flights out of Auckland.
The food was sensational. We tried at least half of the menu. Everything was beautifully plated, each dish had their unique touches and they were all delicious!
You can tell the chef takes great pride in his craft and this is reflected in the plates that came out. Service was friendly, helpful and professional. I would definitely recommend!
M.
Lovely food, ambience and staff. Thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the recommended wines were excellent and reasonably priced.
G.
Feel like back to France. Very gentle service and authentic French food. You won't disappointed for coming here.
E.
The service given by our waiter, the food, the atmosphere - all superb. It is definitely a destination. Thank you ❤️
L.
The food is so delicious and authentic, the service is very professional, and the maitre'd really knows his wines and food matching.
S.
Delicious food and service. Authentic French fare. Thoroughly recommend a visit here, you won't be disappointed.

Wow. Such a great little French restaurant where the food and service is excellent. And most importantly the French wine is awesome.
Can't wait to go back.

Le Bistro des Gourmets in Parnell was a wonderful restaurant find for dinner after work. Tucked away in Parnell Village off the main street, I was warmly welcomed and greeted by the a very pleasant maitre’d and sommelier. The staff was fantastic, hospitable, friendly and warm, not to mention highly attentive. The restaurant itself was charming and unassuming with distinct French flair. I was highly impressed and excited to order wine and food.
I ordered a glass of Domaine Ogier Cotes de Rhône which was exquisite to accompany my sparkling water whilst I awaited my entree of Malibu Flambeed Prawns with Tropical Fruit Salsa. It was a captivating experience to watch the sommelier flambé my dish before me as it added to French dining experience. The dish was exceptional, so much depth of flavour with the delicate texture of perfectly cooked prawn flesh with buttery honey tones cut through with exotic pineapple and passionfruit accents of the salsa, it truly was a heavenly experience for my palate!
Following on I ordered a glass of Clos de Cazaux Gigondas to accompany my main, roasted chicken breast with tarragon jus and seasonal vegetables. Once again, the wine was amazing served in a very bulbous wine glass, and this sang beautifully with my dish.
Finally to end, I was looking forward to enjoying some French cheese with another wine that caught my eye so I enjoyed a selection of 4 cheeses with a glass of Domaine Gachot-Monot Bourgogne. It was the most pleasurable wine and cheese experience I’ve had to date!
I simply thoroughly adored my dining experience at Le Bistro des Gourmets for its fantastic French wine and gorgeous cuisine, not to forget the excellent attentive service. I highly recommend this restaurant for a promise of an exceptional dining experience, consummately delivered. I shall return very soon!
j.
Nice place, boutique space, very good service. I like the snails in winter style .
F.
Traditional homely French style restaurant with interesting menu. Quaint and plain, ideal for the more mature diner. Lovely fish dish. Deliberate French service. Tucked away in the heart of Parnell with fantastic views over to Rangitoto.
A.
Beautiful restaurant, both service and food were outstanding. Would highly recommend dining here!
P.
Delicious and beautiful food with excellent service !
We have an enjoyable long lunch.
R.
Very good French food and great service. Recommended!
L.
Lovely food (starters and wines were amazing!), fantastic service and advice (Alex the sommelier) and great atmosphere :).
T.
Amazing food and service! Went first time last night! Will be back 💪
T.
Be transported to France without ever leaving the country! Chef-owned french bistro serving seasonal New Zealand produce. Eat it to believe it
L.
The best French food in Auckland! Never regret coming.
K.
Great food and wonderful attentive service. Nice ambience. We went on a Saturday night (4 adults, 2 young children) and the restaurant wasn't too busy. Access up the stairs could be difficult for elderly or immobile people. We'll definitely be back.
H.
Absolutely superb food with very professional and helpful table service. Beautiful quiet location.
j.
Had a birthday dinner at Le Bistro des Gourmets and it was great. The food was delicious, the presentation was very good and Alex's knowledge of the food was impressive too. The birthday cake we ordered, and was made by the same chef, was very delicious too. Thank you guys for making it a great evening for us.
M.
I went here for the Valentine’s Day dinner with my husband. The dinner course was tasty and awesome presentation! But they chose chicken breast for the main was disappointing for me. Wine choice was nice, everything else was quite satisfying!
W.
Food , atmosphere, environment, service are excellent. Especially good for celebration.
A.
Beautiful French food. The Sommellier / Maître d’ Alex is excellent. We always get Alex to choose our wine and he never disappoints. The match of wine to food makes my mouth salivate just thinking about it. I can’t recommend them more
T.
We had the same experience as other diners. We booked a table because my sister had such a great meal, and it was the same for us. This is a hidden gem of a restaurant. The menu is quite small, but I’m sure that is what allows the chef to produce such consistently fine flavours.
A.
Amazing traditional french restaurant !
If you want to know what 's mean traditional French cuisine ! I recommend you Le bistrot des gourmets without any hesitation. the taste and the quality of the meals are unbelievable.
It's the best french restaurant in Auckland !
The peoples who work there are very professional and friendly, they are always good advices
Thanks to them 😁
I.
What a fabulous place! Food, wine and service were superb. Thank you for making our celebration so unique. Highly recommended!
D.
Excellent atmosphere and food. The french waiter was super friendly, knowledgable and had humour to really create an authentic experience.
My only wish is that they had more vegetarian main dish options.
J.
What a wonderful restaurant and dining experience. How lucky Auckland is to have such a talented chef in the local Parnell area. Each dish is crafted to visually delight and each dish delivered a unique and delightful experience. The serving staff explained what it was they were serving, clearly and accurately and then professionally disappeared. Ive eaten at very good restaurants around the world. I haven't eaten better more interesting food and flavours anywhere. The wine list was also excellent with excellent choices by the glass. So was the service, exceptional. There are many restaurants that deliver very good to excellent dining experiences. Le bistro des Gourmets, does exceptional with a plus. I can't wait to dine at a Michelin Star restaurant so I can understand what must be a beyond the exceptional experience. I can't wait to go back again. Has the wow factor. I loved it.
R.
This restaurant has been open two years and whilst the small premises lack some ambiance this is overcome by the friendly French owners, the innovative chef Cristophe, the knowledgeable sommelier Alex from Chablis, and Melanie who is the friendly host and manager. Having dined there on several occasions over that time we have never been disappointed by the food and with a menu changed every two months there is always an excellent taste of France to be enjoyed, together with excellent pairing of wine with advice from Alex. It is excellent value and highly recommended if you enjoy good French cuisine and wine served in an intimate setting.
G.
Perfect.
Wild pork Terrine was delicious.
Lamb shanks were beautifully tender and succulent with very subtle sauce.
Wine recommended by waiter by the glass complemented both dishes superbly.
$70 pp was worth every penny!!
A definite 'do it again'😊☺
G.
We had an amazing experience at Le Bistro Des Gourmets. The food was flawless and the atmosphere is great. We had the table by the window looking out at Rangitoto. Just beautiful! I highly recommend this restaurant.
P.
Went for a family birthday
Great food, wonderful wine, divine dessert.
Alex's wine knowledge - just superb.
Great staff
Definitely going back
B.
Excellent service and excellent quality dish.
P.
We booked Le Bistro des Gourmets, with high expectations of a classical winter french meal. After 3+ hours and a wonderful night we were not disappointed. To start, you can be heartened by the fact that the Chef hails from Lyon, that wonderful bastion of great French food. The service was attentive and professional, and the food outstanding. Being a birthday party we opted for a selected menu, with everyone having food envy when the plates were delivered. The Duck Rillette was exceptional, and the slow cooked pork cheeks were as tender as they were authentic. The wine selection is exceptional, and there are some absolute gems to be found. While we'll be back, I hope that others appreciate the style and comfort of Le Bistro des Gourmets. Very lucky to have such a resturant of this quality in Auckland.
G.
Nice to eat eat with a genuine French feel.
Great food and service. Simple venue up some stairs, good for couples or small groups
D.
I like the intriguing street entrance and the trek upstairs to the main bistro. A pleasant atmosphere, with a view out to Rangitoto island. Nice French wine list. Great food, presented in what might be described as an unpretentious fashion. The pork cheek was tender to the point of being ridiculous, with great firm seasonal veges and a delicious sauce. Deserves to be busier.
m.
Faultless experience every time. Perfectly French.
A.
We were there on Sunday night with friends and what a beautiful place!! French for sure! We had a fantastic experience and thank you for your service. The food was delightful. If you want authentic French food, this is the place to go.
A.
Wonderful atmosphere, great coffee, great food (had terrine, confit duck, vegetable platter), not cheap, but highly recommended.
S.
Really enjoyable meal last night at this unpretentious but caring French restaurant. Great view out to Rangitoto, would be wonderful with the windows open on a warm evening. Friendly owners & staff who knew their food and wine and helped us with our choices. Our gurnard was served wrapped in a parcel & was fresh & full of flavour. Couldn't be faulted. Very reasonably priced. All in all, a great discovery. We'll be back.
S.
What a find! We drove up this street and thought it would be a nice place to look for a restaurant. We walked past a little lane way that looked interesting. We decided to eat here. It was great, we are travelling through Auckland as a family of 5. It was my daughter's 16th birthday and what a place to spontaneously eat lunch. We nearly had all the mains and entrees in the one sitting. I will be back before we go. Thanks to the great staff too.
A.
A small, intimate French restaurant tucked away upstairs on Parnell rise. Had a great romantic dinner here; well-worth a try if you like French food.
N.
We are French living here since a long time and we don't know that many true French restaurant in Auckland. But when we looked at their menu we saw a French menu and decided to try it.
We had the terrine maison and the feuilleté d'escargots for entrées. Both were 10/10 may be even 15/10 because the bread for the terrine was also a real French bread and seriously good.
For main we had the steak tartare. The tartare itself was perfectly seasoned, we would have loved a ton of it! To us it's a 20/10. The fries were to soft for my liking but my husband didn't mind. So just 9/10. The salad was good, but the balsamic vinegar was offsetting the walnut flavoured oil. Another 9/10.
We might not come back often because the place isn't that easy to reach from where we live, we just regret that they are not in our neighbourhood, we would become regular!
j.
Seriously The best French Restaurant in Auckland, and i am french so i know a little bit about french food, Everything from the atmosphere, the service the Wines and the food was Perfect, i definitely recommend this restaurant to everyone who wants to Know what is a Real French restaurant. Thanks again for The journey back to our Home country. (without the 24 hours Flight)
G.
C'est superb! Parnell is lucky to have a genuine French bistro with fantastic views over Rangitoto, exceptional service, and food and wine to match. A must visit.
M.
Noticed this just opened French restaurant and as I love French food, I thought I’d treat my wife on our date night. So glad we ate here, the food, wine and service were truly excellent.
We started with the fabulous Scallops and Prawns- flambéd in cognac at the table - tres magnifique!
We followed it with the Filet Mignon du Pork and Onglet sauce a l'echalotes (beef) mains. Both were excellent with amazing flavours.
The ‘piece de la resistance’ was the Soufflé De Grand Marnier dessert - flambéd at the table with Grand Marnier. I felt like I’d died and gone to Paris.
The service was excellent and there’s a comprehensive wine list of classy French wines from all over France, many available by the glass.
And it’s great value -$30 for the amazing main courses, $45 to $60 for a bottle of excellent wine (some more expensive offerings too).
Quite frankly, this is top class French fare. My wife, who is one of the least adventurous eaters in the world, loved it too.
I’ve eaten at some of the world’s best restaurants including a number of Michelin 3* places and the food and service we enjoyed a few nights ago, would not be out of place at those lofty establishments.
G.
Super place. Lovely food.
m.
Great restaurant and great staff! this is the restaurant you have to go if you want to have a good taste of France.
Great products and good wines!
We will be back :)
A.
Awesome food, quality seriously rivaling some of the more expensive French restaurants in town. Highly recommended, and the flambée de grand marnier is an absolute must for dessert! Christophe the Chef introduced himself and he and his team ensure you are well looked after. Our group of 6 had a greay night, we will be back.
L.
Amazing Dessert. I enjoyed my Birthday night very much.
M.
Superbe ! Have an aperitif, the rillette and soup for entrées, the beef rib which comes with potatoes au gratin and green salad, followed by les poivre, fromage and cognac. Just nice people. We are from Sydney with family in France and highly recommend this place for a taste of France. The beef rib was exceptional. The wine a cut above. The service warm and friendly. If we come back to Auckland, this will be a must. Aucklanders, do yourselves a favour..
L.
Fantastic dining experience. Delicious food, excellent service and a lovely quaint restaurant. We parked in the paid parking across the road which was perfect.
A.
Delicious food, lovely people, not pretentious at all and the best bit of french cuisine. I really hope this place survives in Aucklands difficult restaurant scene.
C'est vraiment fantastique, merci a vous.
M.
Awesome service from a passionate French waiter. Not fine dining but a really good 4 course wine matched menu option using the Grabone voucher.
W.
I have visited Paris thrice on business trips and of course dined there, enjoyed selective French Bistros in Hong Kong and Tokyo, its my personal opinion that Le bistro des Gourmets is a one place which you can go alone, with your loved one, your family and you will not be disappointed in terms of gastronomical taste and humane cost. Top-notch service is a breezy bonus. Try....don't take my word for it.
