Stunning views from this restaurant that cannot be beaten! Good variety of food for lunch service. A good selection of desserts Only sad points was the 'Bombe Alaska' dessert coming out far to late into the service. Shame as it is a favorite for the kids. And though they offer free perk coffee, the waitress had no clue as to if.they make flat white coffees, and could not answer a number of other questions. Else this would be a 5 star review Small bonus is on a nice days, you can walk along the beach, kids can play in the sand, or hike the hill to burn off some of the food you have eaten

Wow what an amazing venue for a wedding. Our daughters wedding was 12.2.22 during Cyclone Dovi! But firstly let me tell you from the beginning! Whilst we looked at many many venues once my daughter and future son in law had seen your venue they were in awe of it. We had a buffet lunch and that sealed it for all of us. James was incredible for the couple and us to deal with. Nothing was a problem, he was always happy to chat and make sure we were happy. The day before we dropped items off and trusted them to be put out correctly and it was perfect!! The cyclone seemed even closer being right by the seaside, but it was breathtaking to watch the waves. Once again James and his wonderful team made the guests all feel truly cared for, The food was seriously scrumptious, not one person had a negative word about it! James and the team did the venue proud , this wedding was 2 years in the making and was worth it because of the staff and venue, so thank you so much and we will be back for more delicious meals. I would truly recommend this venue for any event no matter how big or small it works so well!!

We had our wedding reception at McHugh's restaurant and we are very happy with the service they provided it. The views are amazing and the food was delicious. The owners James and his team were very friendly, helpful and understanding all the way. They made our guest and us feel very welcome and everyone had a great time. Wonderful experience. I went with a couple of friends for the buffet lunch and dessert. We all had a wonderful time. All if the food was delicious with such verity as well. I highly recommend if you are looking for a beach front buffet with the most spectacular scenery.

We had our wedding reception here last December 2020 & It was the best ever choice we had in choosing Mchughs! James, the restaurant manager is very nice, easy going, down to earth, go an extra mile for us and cater all our needs from the very first meetup up until post wedding!. The guests really enjoyed the view and most especially the food, it was superB!, the desserts were spectacular, not too sweet. James also allowed us to decorate the venue prior our day, so we will not be on a rush & yeah! Our wedding reception & program at Mchughs went very well as planned. Guests were really impressed! Everything is fine however we would appreciate if events consisting more than 20+ should hire the place itself as they have their own program of which we couldnt really celebrate our own thing because another big event is happening. But other than that, I hope the higher ups of Mchughs will have a better plan on having big events mixing with regular celebrations. Had our wedding at McHughs. The place is beautiful with views to the sea and rangitoto from everywhere. The manager James was really helpful the entire time, he made us comfortable that we were always on the same page, and helped us plan for the big day. During the evening, everything went smoothly, the crew went above and beyond to make sure everyone ate and drank as much as they wanted. Everyone loved the food and desert selection, the menu offers good variety and you are able to choose based on your needs. This is a great place to have a reception after a wedding in church, considering the beautiful churches at Devonport make it an easy commute for guests. Thank you James and the team.

I was helping my friend plan her wedding.She was from Peru-marrying a kiwi man.. We wanted a tasditional classy NZ wedding-and we got that. James and Raj went over and beyond over many requests. From storing the cake in fridge day before-housing our hire chairs for us,all requests even down to sound system.and much more. Fresh crisp white linen cloths-an expectional smorgesboard menu-complimentary tea and coffee-delicious dessert-pavs fruit salad etc.and the ambience of twinkling fariy lights to add to a classy restaurant run by 2 classy Indian owners-that went seamlessly. Well with a visit and great food. Incredible view of the ocean and Rangitoto Island. I could sit there all day! You need to book as it does get busy on weekends. Fab friendly staff and prices are reasonable too.

Great place for a formal party. The food was amazing and the view was stunning. The staff were also very friendly. The only con was another group acting as if they booked or owned the whole restaurant, including preformances and speeches... apart from that it was an enjoyable experience and the restaurant was only a short walk across a beach to some stunning views and war era tunnels and bunkers.

My mums 80th Birthday was held here at McHughs and lets just start off with that view once you enter into the restaurant, just WOW. Being that all my family are based out in South Auckland and West Auckland it was a drive but worth the drive out here in Devonport. Family hired out the whole restaurant out, so no outsiders and flow throughout was beautiful the food really enjoyed it, it was something different wasn't too heavy just right. The manager "James" was so accommodating to us and the staff were awesome. By far love this place.

Went here today for a delicious lunch. I am allergic to dairy, and the staff here catered to my allergy so well. I didn't ask them to, I'm usually really good at just picking food that I can tell is dairy free. However, they actually specifically made me a salad and dessert that didn't have dairy when I mentioned that I couldn't eat dairy. It was so accommodating and more than any other restaurant! The food was superb and absolutely delicious. I especially recommend the pork. The setting is gorgeous, and views are to die for, even on a rainy day. The staff are all so friendly! We are having our wedding here in 2021, and absolutely cannot wait. It will be wonderful. I cannot recommend McHughs enough!

I've been going to McHughs for many years. The restaurant has always been pristine. The food is excellent and is great value for money. The staff are friendly and very accommodating. The atmosphere is lovely and they have exceptional views of Rangitoto. I highly recommend to all.

Great venue we had our wedding reception there. The restaurant manager was great very accommodating friendly and kind. The reservation manager wasn't as understanding to begin with (this is all during vivid times) on changing the total amount of guests. It took a bit of convincing as we lost 60 guests and had to reduce the spending etc. We managed to find a solution at the end but the experience of this shouldn't have been that hard. Aside from that the food and service at the restaurant was perfect. Thank you to restaurant manager for making our day special and for your understanding we really appreciate your assistance and patience. We will be back for lunch or dinner when we are back in town.

Our experience at McHugh’s is exceptionally great, starting with the friendly manager, James, who has been very kind and supportive while we set up the tables on the day before the wedding dinner. Food is great. Upmarket buffet style. The setting is beautiful too. Easy to park, great views. Only slight criticism, is the desserts seem to be a bit of an after-thought, often sometimes the restaurant is cold. Also, the staff, whilst always being polite and professional. could be a bit more warm and welcoming, there isn't much in the way of interaction going on.

This is my one of my all time favourite restaurants in all of Auckland. The staff and management are so hospitable and friendly. The service, view, and food are top notch. It's such a pleasurable experience dining here. Fresh hot food is always brought out, and dirty plates are taken away promptly. My husband and I had our wedding here on the 6th March, 2020. It was absolutely spectacular!!! James was so accommodating and incredibly flexible, he put us at ease with everything and made it so much easier with dropping things off and helping us pick the right package for our menu and drinks (we had a lot of our own wine to use which was no problem for them, a small corkage fee which made it so much easier). The canapés were perfect. The fruit punches were gone fast because the guests loved it so much 😊 and the rest of our minimum spend on alcohol was put on the bar tab, he let us know when we had spent the amount we wanted to. We had such an amazing experience from when we enquired, right up to the day and everyone absolutely loved the food. They cater for all allergies/ intolerances e.g. gluten and dairy free and vegan and the staff were super friendly and helpful. Such an amazing venue to have a wedding at and very affordable. We had our wedding reception. What a spectacular view! We were lucky enough to have a high tide as people were coming in, and a full moon night where it w sitting just above the water! Absolutely stunning! James, the manager made everything so easy! We were able to come in and set up most of the tables the day before. He had been very accommodating with our changes too. We cannot recommend McHugh's of Cheltenham as a wedding reception venue highly enough. Leading up to the day, communication was clear and prompt and on the day everything ran smoothly. Lovely position right on the beach. Very nice buffet lunch. Extremely well organised for our large group of 80 plus they had casuals dining. Staff were efficient and were hardly noticeable. My only reason why they didn't get 5 stars is the women's toilets need a face lift in my opinion. I would certainly recommend them for both casual dining and large functions.
