Reviews of Mekong Baby
M.
The food was decent here and the staff were friendly and helpful. I liked the atmosphere as well. It was a tad crowded though (there was literally a crowd standing and talking right beside me as I ate). All in all it wasn't a bad experience, but I wouldn't have expected everything to cost so much for what they offered.
e.
Amazing service and beautiful indoor decor!!
We had curry which was aromatic and delicious, however the stir fry dish w/ tofu was a bit average.
Highly recommend the apple tart w/ ice cream dessert, overall a really nice dining experience :)
B.
Mekong never disappoints and I would always highly recommend. My photos don’t do justice to the food, was only a few light bites with friends this time.
Lamb ribs has always been a fav.
G.
The Restaurant vibe was nice although the music is a bit loud. Staff was nice, attending and accommodating even if I made my booking in wrong date, they still manage to get us a table. Food that we get was mostly superb and the cocktail too! Im a bit disappointed with the wagyu beef & lemon grass. I didn’t expect that the beef will be ground beef especially its a wagyu. But the sticky hot wings is a must try! Expect the food and drinks are a bit pricy.
V.
We participated in a wedding dinner on 9 April. The food was excellent, couldn’t find any fault. Highly recommend.
W.
Not gonna lie dropped in without plans and everything was perfect. From cocktail recommendations to the food really had a good time thanks to sophie :)) the chicken curry was a must try!

The menu offers a wide variety of delicious Asian Infusion style food. mouth watering starters and main courses that will appeal to youngsters and adults alike.
For starters we had Red Curry Spicy Salmon on Crispy Wonton, amazing, with a bit of spice! And the Sticky Hot Wings, Gochujang, Chipotle, The sauce was amazing, almost filled me up.
For mains my wife had our favourite. Crispy-Skinned Market Fish, Sweet & Sticky Pork, Pear, Radish, Peanuts, Herbs, The flavours all go well together, Very tasty. And I had to try a curry dish this time. Went with Madurese Goat Curry, Lime, Coconut. Meat was soft, melts in your mouth, Amazing flavours. Highly Recommend!!
Amazing dessert!! We had Apple & Almond Tart, Miso-Butterscotch Sauce, Salted Caramel Ice Cream, one of a kind, And our favourite Coconut Sago, Vanilla Ice Cream, Puffed Black Rice.
I highly recommend this restaurant. The food is delicious and the atmosphere is brilliant. We love this place and will continue to visit!!

If you are looking for delicious, "gram-worthy", and great value for $$$-- look no further! Great drinks menu, amazing banquet, and fantastic service. Rating this an easy 5⭐! Try the banquet menu (Crossroads to Indo Chine) some of the photos below. 😋
H.
Love the decor, beautiful spaces, no matter where you sit, great vibe and delicious food! Just a warning the sticky hot wings live up to their name! 🔥🥵
J.
Delicious sharing plates with next level fresh tasting, banging flavours. You can't go wrong with the Mekong Baby menu!
A.
Tasty food and a great surroundings. My faves were the papaya salad, lamb ribs and fish curry but everything I had off the tasting menu was great. Would definitely go back.
Music a tad on the loud side so not a place for a quiet dinner but the music is part of its atmosphere
D.
Those lamb ribs were "melt in your mouth", such an amazing dish. My mouth is still on fire from my spicy cocktail, spicy lamb and spicy chicken curry, perfection!!
J.
What a feast! Had a matcha sour cocktail and a Miss Saigon cocktail to start the night - both very delicious and for those who have a sweeter tooth when it comes to alcoholic beverages. My table opted for the "Let's eat" option where 9 plates of food were given. Each dish superbly seasoned, but most definitely not for those who can't handle spice! Some standouts were the pork belly (that caramelisation!!), the roti that came with the cauliflower curry (delectable and flaky!!) and the kingfish sashimi (I love me some good sashimi). The chicken in the last dish was a bit over done and dry, but everything else was cooked to perfection! For $65pp, absolutely not a bad deal at all.

Was around the area and craving Vietnamese food. Googled and found Mekong Baby. We had no reservations but didn't have to wait much to get seats for the fam. Service was great. Made us feel very welcome. Had goat curry, fish and sweet pork which resembled the filipino tocino which we miss so much. Will definitely visit again
C.
Food is divine, staff are so welcoming and ready to assist with any dietary issues.
I think this is a great restaurant which offers a good variety of flavors from Asia, for an affordable price, in what is clearly a prime location.
Salivating in anticipation for my next visit.
A.
My friends and family had an amazing night at Mekong. Some of the best cocktails I've ever been served, and from an extensive range. The food was unbelievable, and I couldn't fault a single dish. We love sharing plates, so this is the place to go if you're looking for something like that.
C.
Incredible food, highly recommend.
The most delicious food I've had in a long time.

Service is paramount and it shows when it’s absent from any restaurant you may visit which is why I would rate highly Mekong Baby. I had a few issues with a cocktail which I sent back twice, maybe my taste buds were off but the ladies serving our table were fabulous and made it right. My wife is still raving about her cocktail, best she’s ever had, we lived in Dubai for 16 years and she’s had many lol so that was a big compliment.Food was lovely especially the market fish combo with pork belly. Nice atmosphere and with everything going on it’s so satisfying to see restaurants like these back making the community happy with their wonderful offerings. Well done, we left very happy.
Y.
We booked a private space for a casual Hens lunch, enough for up to 8 people with nice comfy chairs and booth with a curtain we can choose to close for some privacy. We ordered the Nine Dragons Delta banquet menu where the food came out very quickly one after another and was very tasty and some quite spicy, true to the Asian dishes that were made. We were so full following the meal as it was quite rich in protein and not much carbs - rice and roti were served with the 2 curries but that was closer to the end of the meal before dessert. Would recommend this place for future group functions, or for just some casual cocktails as they have many options in this regard. I took photos of every dish except one which was the salad with the pork belly and prawns - we just basically dug into that.
N.
So yummy, every single time. The whole menu is good! I'm yet to try something I dont like. Friendly staff and good service. Very accommodating for dietary requirements too!
S.
Amazing ! Booked 11 people for our daughters 19th birthday and took some of our fussiest relatives. They were all blown away by the amazing and plentiful food and cocktails but also the service! . Our night was a 10/10 and we will all be back ... probably a few times 🤣
D.
Our server was a lovely lady (wish I asked for her name 🤦♀️). Highly recommend the sticky chicken wings 🤤
S.
Awesome Service on a Friday evening. Food is excellent. Awesome place to dine.
Date night with my partner was excellent thanks to the 2 awesome girls that waited on us.We will definitely be back. Thanks Mekong Baby.AAA+++
T.
Went for lunch. Really good experience. We did the shared menu which was good value and delicious. Decor and Service was good.
The only disappointing item was the fresh spring roll. Probably the most tasteless spring roll ive tasted.
M.
Great service, good food and chilled atmosphere. We enjoyed the set menu, which was a delicious experience for a small intimate family birthday dinner. Looking forward to returning again.
i.
We were there for a hen's night dinner, booked the private room/table, we been told we have to have the banquet menu $65pp... The food was very nice~
Since then I've also gone back for my birthday~ Love it~
J.
Dined in as a group of 14 on the banquet menu. We chose the Red Southeast Junction menu. The food were all lovely! Tasty, filling and great portioning. The team also accommodated dietary restrictions within the menu, swapping the pork belly for some tofu for one of our diners. The menu can be on the somewhat spicy end if you don't enjoy heat and spice but the majority of our group enjoyed it. Extensive cocktail and drinks menu! Thanks Mekong Baby team - until next time!
R.
There's so much to enjoy when you're at Mekong Baby. We love the cocktails - so many delicious and different drinks; amazing food with lots of fish/seafood options for non meat eaters; yummy desserts; friendly staff. What more could you want from a restaurant?!
L.
Delicious food! We loved it here. We ordered the beef wagyu lemongrass, pork belly and cauliflower curry and they were all delicious.
M.
I'm not sure why everyone rates Mekong Baby - I've only been here once but didnt have a great experience. The service could have been friendlier. We ordered a drink each as per usual and then later ordered food, our drinks didnt arrive until after we had already finished our food and asked if they had forgotten them but
J.
Food was all delicious. Bao buns were great
D.
Second time I've visited after several years and had pretty much the same experience. Drinks and atmosphere are good, but food was hit-and-miss. Soft shell crab bao and lombok chicken were great, while the crispy lamb ribs and ramen noodles were pretty terrible. Ribs were tiny and tasteless, and ramen noodles were flavourless and seemed well overpriced for what's on the plate. Overall a disappointing experience.
K.
Wow. Amazing food. Amazing cocktail. So good.
L.
I booked a dinner for a work event (group of 9) and entire process was fast and efficient. Set menu on the night was value for money, plenty of food, delicious and the service was outstanding.
J.
Updated to 5-star after owner’s acknowledgment of the issue.
Have enjoyed coming here over the years for both work and personal meals, food and drinks never disappointed.
For our last meal, we had a small feedback for one of the ingredients used in two dishes we ordered. This was given to the lady on duty in a polite and casual manner. However she just would not take it, and insisted that was how that ingredient should be. I'm sorry, but there's a difference between crunchy vegetable and overly-fibrous-you-have-to-spit-it-back-out for every mouthful; especially it was used in both mains.
We treat everyone with respect, and firmly believe in individual rights. But it was such an offputting experience trying to provide feedback for Mekong to improve on their food, only to get told to expect less!?
G.
First time diner. Walked in and was greeted with a smile. The place was packed. Service was fast and tables cleared quickly. Food was AMAZING! Will be back again.
M.
Been here for the first time last weekend and it's been a good experience. Excellent ambience for fine-dining. It's a South East Asian fusion restaurant with some amazing varieties of food which is not that common in all newzealand restaurants. One thing I have to mention mainly is the friendly staffs, excellent service and really welcoming, eventhough the restaurant is pretty busy, they always ensure the customers get the help they need (for eg: topping up water, ordering desserts).
Talking about the dishes we had, we had a black pepper chicken dish, a duck curry (red curry) with pineapple and potatoes, a goat curry.( green curry). The gravy tasted similar but the flavour of the meat wqs really highlighting in both the curries makes the dish unique in it's own way. Out of all the dishes, personally I liked the goat better because of it's rich flavour.. the other dishes were good too, don't get me wrong there. Talking about the quantity, both the goat and duck curries had good portion whereas the black pepper chicken was a bit not satisfying for the price we paid. Desserts are a must try especially the chocolate & hazelnut mousse cake.
What I didn't like about the restaurant is obviously the price, it's on the expensive side. Other than that nothing much to complain. Enjoyed all the food we ordered. Definitely will visit again.
m.
We came here for a Christmas party for 12 people, spent over $1500 (!!!) all up and the food was delicious. The only Issue we had was at the end of the night one waiter (who may of been the manager as she was counting the money at the end of the night) who came at the end of our meal to take final drinks and was so rude to our table, told us she didn’t care about how we felt about the meal but it was last calls for drinks and gave off the vibes she just wanted us all to leave as quickly as possible, I felt like we were dirt at the bottom of her shoe!! The table spent a considerable amount of money and were totally lovely to the staff and everyone around us, we didn’t deserve the disrespect from this staff
Member and are totally perplexed by this behaviour. FYI She was an older blonde lady with a serious attitude problem. We will rethink coming to this restaurant because of her which is a real shame as the food is lovely. Cheers and thank you for a (mostly) great night.
E.
Amazing food, service and ambience. Highlight of the night was the Rose and Lychee Martini. Note you must like spice to eat here! Loved it and hope to be back soon.
K.
It wasn’t that bad, but food could be better described in the description.. ambiance is just amazing . Will rate 7 out of 10
H.
Amazing service, delicious foods,
Highly recommend!
p.
Best pork belly I've ever had. Ever. I'm craving it. The red fish curry was also amazing. But that pork belly. My goodness.
R.
The ambience, food and customer service was good. They now have vegetarian options which was nice. The burmese garden cocktail and almond tart are top notch!
J.
Order the "Let's Eat" option and you'll be astoished with the variety of flavours and tastes.
Mekong baby is the top 1 on my list.
Their nice mocktails are all worth a try.
H.
Went after lockdown in level 2, they had a bit of trouble with drinks ( asked for almost no ice, got mostly ice) and dessert ( we'd been there for a birthday dinner)
But the food was on point. The lamb ribs just melted in your mouth, the squid was perfectly cooked. We had the yellow fish curry and bbq chicken, both were nicely cooked and seasoned.
Had a great time, would definitely go again now that we're in level 1.
D.
Consistently good. Marcel runs a great operation. The lunch special - 5 dishes for $32 is great value.
B.
We had a fairly large group and opted to share plates for the whole table.
The waitress was really helpful in suggesting food to go with and portions. One of the biggest issue was that most of the dishes were quite spicy so some people weren't able to eat much. Another issue was that the dishes were meant for sharing for four so it was a bit awkward for larger groups to get some of the dish to try. Favourite of the bunch was the tartare. Nice flavour and textures.
Amazing service and tasty food.
K.
Can never go wrong with Mekong Baby. The food is always the best in any Asian fusion restuarant i have had. I struggle with what to order as there are so many delicious options to choose from. The only issue we had was we were running low and quickly wanted to order more food but ordered a dish that took 25 mins. Would have been nice if the waiter had told us and recommended something else.
許.
The food was amazing and so much of it really good value and tasty. Couldn’t fault the service attentive, quick but not in your face like some places. Really lovely atmosphere and vibe. Will definitely be back
J.
All the food was good and they had a good selection of craft beer. Just note that all of the food is a little spicy, even the ones that aren't labeled as spicy.
P.
Last night took my family here for my wife’s birthday and had a great night, attentive service, great communication and brilliant food, it was when ALL our ANZ cards declined for what was a very sizeable bill that we saw the true outstanding level of customer service at Meekong Baby.
Our predicament was met with nothing but patience and problem solving.
Thankfully we could get the bank transfer system to work and our bill was settled with nothing but calm gratitude, and apologies for our problem…
Top marks to Meekong Baby - zero marks for ANZ for not informing your customers of outages.
A.
What fantastic food and service, I was lucky enough to have our office Christmas lunch at Mekong Baby but I will definitely be going back. I would be hard pressed to pick a favourite but my top would be the Pad See Ew and Spiced Lamb Ribs, closely followed by the Braised Pork Belly, Madurese Goat Curry and the Madras Spicy Chicken Curry
M.
Best pork belly in town. Chicken wings are also great. In addition to that customer service is very good
E.
This is possibly my favourite Asian fusion restaurant. The food and their service is just so damn good. We ordered the pork belly which is hands down the best pork belly I have ever had! I would praise all the other dishes we ordered but I can't get over how good the pork belly is!
J.
It's okay. The food was different to what we've had at similar venues and didn't settle well... The service and drinks were great but we wouldn't go back
R.
When the waitress said "the pork belly is our signature dish" I was like... yeah whatever, just bring it over I'm hungry. Then the dish arrives and I was like 🤯. Then I sliced it in half and took a bite.. A moment of silence.. then it was like my tongue had sex with my brain and had a baby that I just had to swallow! Wow, still thinking about this intimate experience. Take your friends and go to Mekong Baby, have lots of sex and babies!
L.
The wife and I love coming here, the pork and lamb are the best. And that Rotti yummy. You will not be disappointed. Great service as well.
C.
Food to share. I love everything I tried. Best dish was the pork belly. Drinks tasted very nice. Totally recommended.
L.
It's easy to feel overwhelmed by Mekong Baby's expansive menu - there is a wide variety of dishes and we've found most of them tasty with bold, punchy flavours. The highlights for me are the wagyu wrapped in betel leaves and the braised pork belly. Service is efficient but sometimes too efficient - on our last visit we felt rushed into ordering, which was strange as we were only 15 minutes into our 2 hour booking, and many of our orders arrived almost immediately. Overall, though, I've had many positive dining experiences at Mekong Baby and really enjoy the ambience.
A.
Must have their spicy lamb ribs, soft shell crab Bao bun & hot wings, We loved them. About the drinks, have their River sipper mocktail, its just awesome. Ambience is pleasing. Staff reflect an overall good customer service. We went there on a Sunday evening by 8pm in early January this year, so the place wasn't that crowded. But, I have heard that all such joints in Ponsonby are full and buzzing from Fridays to Sundays. Next time I would like to try their Surprise Me (Let's Eat) menu! Happy New Year to all.
S.
Amazing food packed full of flavour. This place is always pumping. Weather you need an early dinner or part way through the night, Mekong is always full and there's always a great vibe. Great range of dishes to share. Also a number of vegetarian dishes which are delicious!
E.
Love this happy place!
With great beverage, cocktail
Orientals hospitality, happy faces
Great Asian fusion foods selection
Definitely the place for you, for family, for friends and for parties
I.
Food was tasty and staff attentive .. Asia Fusion style . I was expecting Vietnamese food because of the name. The restaurant was busy and buzzing
B.
Amazing food with very decent portions. We had the set menu, you better have a tolerance for spicy food because a few is the dishes are up there for those not properly attuned. Great cocktails and the staff are more than qualified to recommend something if you don't know what you want. Pricing is very affordable for the food you get. Great atmosphere!
M.
Excellent food. Very friendly staff. Excellent customer service. Value for money as the portion sizes are good. Quick service.
S.
Awesome service!
Amazing food.
Great cocktails.
A++
M.
This place has become one of my favorite as I get amazing choices in vegetarian food. Always got great service in bigger friend groups too inspite of busy ambience.highly recommended
B.
Really nice quality food, the ribs were the best I've ever had.
D.
Stunning food packed full of flavour with a good kick of chilli. Good range of wine and beers (craft and Asian).
A.
Delicious food! Everything is tasty and authemtic. Recommend booking a table before coming for dinner!
M.
Cocktails are great as always, miss saigon is my fav, food portion has gone smaller compared to a year ago when I last had it; overall good experience, friendly staff and chill vibe. Will be back.
A.
Love the Pork Belly (always a stable and never had a bad one yet), Papaya salad also a great compliment among many other great dishes. Simply the best Vietnamese /Asian fusion restaurant in Auckland.
R.
This place has a bright cheerful relaxed and ambiance and pairs this with a mouth watering selecting of delectible Asian fusion dishes! I highly recommend this place!
Y.
So tasty! The summer rolls were hands down the best I've ever had - super fresh, with a delicious nuoc cham. Lamb ribs were perfectly seasoned and crispy on the outside, tender and rich on the inside. The Duck Massamun Curry came with two very generous portions of duck - so delicious!
The only disappointment was the roti - it was a bit dry. Also be warned that everything is surprisingly spicy!
Note: Entree sizes are very small here, but the mains are enormous :)
m.
Brilliant night. Amazing food and top class service. Taste sensations in every dish
L.
Really mixed feelings about Mekong baby! Visited on holiday when visiting family and friends in NZ, it came as recommended!
The banquet menu was a great option and a great price , the drinks were good but overpriced for some of them. The pork belly of you visit is a must try! Seriously delicious!
( I took a photo but couldn't find so I googled one)
The service was a bit of a let down , our main waiter was good but the food coming out was slow, a few times we had empty plates and other waiters bringing different courses of the menu tried to put down plates with no space. They seemed a little unorganised and a bit k we the place.
I'd visit again just for the pork belly!
J.
Superb food, worth the money. The staff are helpful. Deliciously long drinks menu. Some of the best Asian fusion food in Auckland.
M.
Loved this place! Food was outstanding, and the cocktails were even better - especially the spicy ones!
W.
Not a very nice experience for us. Some dishes are too salty, some too plain. Presentation and service are great though.
B.
Absolutely fabulous place to go, excellent service, excellent food and awesome atmosphere. Staff are well trained and knowledgeable...
D.
Awesome food. Try the porkbelly and the duck curry. For some strange reason they wont let you take home the leftovers so make sure you order just what you will eat. Plates are not evenly served, the duck curry was a lot while the pork belly was relatively small for a main dish.
a.
Food is great n ambience is nice warm. Can be really noisy at times.. tables are arranged bit too close
G.
Flavour/food quality:5. Quanitity:2.5 Value for money: 2.5 . Ambience and Presentation: 4.5. Overall experience 3.5.
S.
Place was super busy due to it being Valentines day, but it all went well and we were well looked after.
All the staff were friendly and on to it! Cheers
K.
Located on Ponsonby Road. You can feel the vibe of the place from a quarter mile away- crowded, cheery and filled with young folk. Is marketed as a place for "South-Asian Cuisine" but feel free to order continental. The lamb shank and pork belly are to die for, both in terms of the quality of meat and the preparation. Would definitely go back again.
A.
Food was great. Very trendy place. A little stingy on the dipping sauce. Lamb ribs excellent.
A.
The food here is always impeccable. My partner and I come here every so often and we are never disappointed. Great food, great staff, awesome cocktails. I recommend the lamb ribs, pork belly, and the papaya salad. I'd even go as far as saying they make one of the best pork belly dishes in Auckland!
N.
Went here with workmates after a conference. Pork belly is to die for! It is the best I've ever tasted! And everyone else agreed! We had ordered all the entrées and half of the mains to share so got to taste a lot of their items. Aside from the delicious pork belly, I enjoyed the heart of palm with salmon salad, prawn cakes and the hot wings! All recommended. We had a waiter dedicated to our large table upstairs and he was fabulous. The other wait staff bringing up the food didn't seem to even know what they were dishing out! Didn't take many pics, only of the dessert, which was not particular to my liking.
A.
Service was good and prompt even though 7 of us walked in without reservations. Prices were a bit high but quality of food was good. The kailan dish is very tasty. We were a tad disappointed as we were looking forward to Vietnamese cuisine but hadn’t realise this is a fusion restaurant. So no pho for us. But all in all, it was an ok experience.
M.
Went here last night and all I can say is that the food is the reason this place isn't getting a 1 star.
Came with a party of 8 and spent around $400. Food came out quite fast and tasted okay but what threw me off was the staff. For a party that spent nearly half a grand, you would think that the service would be exceptional. We were told there was a booking after our sitting and it felt like we were being pushed out (keep in mind we hadn't even started eating). We were told there was a book at 8pm but constantly asked if our other guests were coming. This was repeated to us several times throughout the night. It made it seem like they only cared about $$$$ signs and not the dining experience for their guests.
Upon paying they were still pushy. The staff member who was taking care of our bill felt like she didn't care about her customer but more how fast we could swipe our credit cards on the till. Didn't say thanks for coming or even ask us how the food was. Good service and kind staff go a long way in retaining customers.
100% would not go back.
L.
Great meal, fast service, very attentive, wonderful spot to have our anniversary meal.
T.
Good food and nice environment. Friendly staff. Portion was a bit small though
C.
I have been wanting to try Mekong Baby for months since moving to Ponsonby. So bummed I haven’t tried it sooner- the pad see ew is the best I’ve had in New Zealand as a whole! All of the food was flavorful, they were great with dietaries, and the servers were top notch. Will be back again (and again...)!
M.
What a lovely dinner! Staying near the airport and craving some Asian fusion! What a restaurant! We had the special raw oysters to start along with the Vietnamese Spring Rolls and duck, followed by the Pad See Ew and Pork Belly! OMG....the flavors were simply amazing and the service was impeccable! We are normally not desert people but when the waiter described the apple and walnut tart and chocolate mousse we just had to have them both! We ended the night with two espresso martinis. One of our favorite meals and the service was some of the best we have ever had! Simply amazing!
M.
Delicious food, friendly staff and good service. Food however did come very slowly and is a bit pricey. Would go here on a nice occasion but not for a typical lunch. Heaps of room for large groups and nice intimate areas for smaller groups or couples
R.
Food was beautiful!!! Service could have been a bit better.. but was a very nice night!
D.
Stopped here for a cold one whilst we were out for the afternoon in Ponsonby. 2 x Coronas $18 isn't bad. The place is pretty cool. The chairs sat at the bar are laid out in pairs so it's perfect if there's just two of you going for a catch up over a drink. We looked at the menu and if you're a vegetarian, theres not a great amount of choice. (You can ask for meat dishes to be made vegetarian, which always feels like a cop out, especially when Asian food does veggie so well!). The staff were friendly and theres a lot of space (for ponsonby) which is great.
C.
Food is great - the dishes came out fast and they were delicious. There's a large variety of food to choose from. Great to go in with a bigger group of people.
However I can't give it 5 stars as the service was just not what I was expecting. While I was waiting to be shown my table, a man had come and lined up behind me. The server (I assume was the manager or front of house) made eye contact with me but then he overlooked me and served the man behind me instead. Once I was seated with my friends, he had come in asking if the other guests were coming because theres an 8pm booking. At this stage we hadn't even eaten. We were constantly reminded throughout the night that there's an 8pm booking.
The whole dinner felt so rushed and we were made to feel like we had to leave ASAP. I understand that it is busy but that's no way to treat your diners. Pretty disappointed as you'd expect better service from an establishment like this.
N.
The mood the atmosphere put me in is indescribable. If you want to go on a romantic date then this is the place to go. The chicken curry was beautifully spicy and the rotis were delicious.
It was so busy that my table was given wrong drinks (which they let us have on the house) and the bar staff couldn't seem to handle the rush.
Can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu.
A.
This is a great restaurant to be at! Amazing unique cuisine which is absolutely delicious! The cocktails are amazing too and great ambiance, environment and music! It’s a bit more expensive than other restaurants but absolutely worth it! 100% recommend this place to everyone to visit!
A.
Such great value for money! And honestly the food was bloody delicious!! Loved the vibe of the restaurant too. Great service! Definitely going to go back here and bring more people with us :)

The food and service was very good. One thing that somewhat took the polish off the experience a little was the fact that even the items which are not marked as spicy (specifically) are still spicy. We found that even the items not marked were still moderately spicy, and I think given we had kids at the table, if that was the case, then potentially the waitress could have let us know or encouraged us to order with less spice by default or something. The food is pretty delicious, but pretty much everything on the menu comes with some level of spice. It took us a little by surprise. We still enjoyed our experience.
B.
One of the best spots in Auckland. Food was incredible, favourite dish was definitely the pork belly, and also the coconut sago pudding. Staff and waiting team were lovely and owner himself was involved in checking in on ensuring an amazing dining experience. Will be back for sure!
M.
Best south east asian in Auckland, must try the pork belly... it can't be beaten.
K.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Auckland. They have great food and fancy drinks menu and each time I have been here, the food here is one of the best places I have eatten and love coming back here. Best to book a table especially over the weekends.
Highly recommend
B.
AMAZING Vegan food 😍👌
Not super calorie dense, but all the food was incredibly delicious!!
S.
Best meal I've had in years !! It was an experience, not just dinner.i went with 3 other friends and we decided to try the chefs menu since we just couldn't decide what to get. Omg, we did not regret it-every course was beautiful. The papaya salad was a bit too hot for me, but the pork belly, lamb ribs ,even the dessert (which let's face it, alot of restaurants just phone in) was awesome..I can't wait to go back to try some more dishes. I hear the goat curry is to die for as well. If you're in Ponsonby, go try it -if you can get a table:)
T.
So food was really good, we had a set menu and it was yum. They were super busy and it was a Saturday night. Had a few service issues, but it was a good night. Food was outstanding really to be honest.
K.
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Auckland. They have great food and fancy drinks menu and each time I have been here, the food here is one of the best places I have eatten and love coming back here. Best to book a table …
Y.
So tasty! The summer rolls were hands down the best I've ever had - super fresh, with a delicious nuoc cham. Lamb ribs were perfectly seasoned and crispy on the outside, tender and rich on the inside. The Duck Massamun Curry came with two …
R.
The lamb and the pork are amazing
O.
Great food and service. Highly recommended.
G.
I can't recommend Mekong Baby enough! The staff are very friendly and pretty good, and the atmosphere is very chilled and relaxed. And I very much recommend the pork ribs! Mekong Baby has a very convenient location in the middle of Ponsonby, on the main road. Good times
B.

B.
Most excellent dining experience
J.
Very much enjoyed the fried rice and sago pudding. A number of gluten-free options. Staff were very reassuring in catering for coeliacs. Staff were great. Good drinks options.
D.
Amazing food and wine. The service was just brilliant. Highly recommended this place.
S.
Great food and really friendly service. High noise levels due to brick walls and hard chairs detract from experience
S.
Visited Mekong Baby, for my wife’s birthday, on the very enthusiastic recommendations of some friends, so expectations were high.
From the moment we walked in the door, we knew we were in for a great night!!!
The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the vibe was very energetic.
We went for the Lets Eat Menu, which was described as a selection of favourites.
All I can say is, every single meal blew my mind and tastebuds.
The pork belly was criminally amazing, the sticky chicken wings were cooked by a genius, the sashimi was created by an angel!!
I believe that we had 8 dishes- all were fricken incredible.
Both my wife and I were in heaven.
To top it off, the cocktails were spectacular.
We were actually planning our next visit there before we left.
Thank you Mekong Baby- you’ve ruined us for any other restaurants in town.
No pictures supplied, as the food was too good to waste time taking photos
Ps the staff are very very good.
D.
Amazing food and wine. The service was just brilliant. Highly recommended this place.
M.
Awesome
We ordered the 'feed me dinner', the food just kept coming
C.
Food was great! Service wasn’t as great. We did the “let’s eat” $65 a head set menu and although the food was tasty, we had no idea what was put in front of us due to the waiters dropping our food and walking away. Definitely go hungry if you’re doing the “let’s eat” set menu, the food just keeps coming!!! Would definitely go back for the food :)
B.
Beautiful building, great atmosphere, very upmarket food (big portions) but not my favourite food. I guess I'm a philistine - I kind of prefer cheap Thai curry
L.
Great food always! Incredible staff. Highly recommend their menu for any foodies out there. It will not disappoint!
M.
Nice to be back eating at the awesome place. Everything on this menu is good for the soul.
M.
Always a tasty time!
Can recommend pork belly, Maduran goat curry, soft shell crab bao, Korean spicy wings, and pretty much anything else on the menu.
A.
Amazing atmosphere, the most delicious selection of food! Lovely cocktails. Everything here is just absolutely perfect! Highly recommended!
B.
First time there and the place was busy as. Food was good, arrived fast and plenty of it.
Service was pretty good considering how busy it was. Hens party upstairs was very screamy and noisy and affected downstairs noise levels.
J.
Nice place for a chat, friendly staff.
Beef tartare & hot wings are my friends favorites. Portion of main is large and the hapuku is really salty.. really salty
A.
Gorgeous interior and super attentive service. Staff were amusing and the food was delicious. We ordered the pork belly, spiced lamb ribs to start and the smashed fresh green papaya salad. The meats were tender and the salad was refreshing. I also ordered a sour lychee cocktail, slightly on the expensive side ($18 eep) but still delicious. Overall pleasant experience and would go back to try other things on their menu!
t.
Very nice food and very friendly staff, will definitely recommend this place!
E.
Everything we tried was delicious, though a warning from the waitress that everything we ordered was going to be very spicy would have been nice! The waiter that took over partway through lunch was better and more chatty. All the little bite sized things were really tasty! Would go back soon if I lived in Auckland!
Oh and upon reading other reviews I recall our waitress also was pushy about us ordering immediately upon sitting down. She lost the 5th star, everything else was perfect.
J.
Top restaurant. One of the best in Auckland, food comes out quick and is beyond exceptional. Great Gf options(most of menu) and wait staff are good. Will be coming here regularly.
m.
Love it, great food. Best pork belly I've ever been served and lamb ribs perfectly rendered, juicy and light minus the grease. Very lively social venue, if you want quiet this isn't the place. It's more of a city bar with stand up food. It doesn't pretend to be anything else.
M.
The food was super delicious and the staff were also really lovely. They looked after us really well and service was quick. The menu is refreshing with a range of ingredients used! They also had vegetarian options for some of their dishes which was great! 10/10 highly recommend
R.
Great food, location and service. Memorable for all the right reasons.
D.
Delicious food, great service, yummy cocktails. We enjoyed the Bangkok ice tea. It was delicious and refreshing. Ordered the crispy fish and pork belly. They were big dishes so only order these if your very hungry.
Head waiter was very witty and charming. Food came out quickly. Great place to eat. Hip vibes and cool despite the heat. A must to dine at especially if you enjoy chilli 😊
S.
Great staff. Some of the bartender's are excellent! I recommend going for a couple of cocktails but also try the food! It's Asian fusion and they are all small for share so you get to try different tastes. I was surprised how yummy food was.
M.
We went on a Friday. Very busy overall and was difficult to get hold of any waiter. Initially was asked to share table with other people, we clearly denied even though we booked the table beforehand. Food was good overall. But the drinks came in very late. However they made the drinks free to compensate for the delays.
C.
Amazing food and great ambience. Definitely recommend
j.
Service was superb, friendly service would definitely recommend
S.
Have been here a few times and never disappointed me. Food is uniquely great!
H.
Came here with friends and had a really amazing night out. Tried a bit of everything and it was all so delicious. I look forward to coming back again and trying more of the menu. My one complaint, which is why I took off one star, is that I felt the payment process was a bit unorganised - we had to gather around a small area to pay, and then when waiting for the rest of the group (in an area which we thought was out of the way) were quite rudely told we couldn't stand around like we were. I found that a bit odd.
H.
Some very tasty food...well worth a visit...
N.
Very nice ambience, friendly and helpful staff. The food was AMAZING. So. Much. Flavour. Get the sticky pork pineapple starter - good way to prepare your taste buds for the rest of the meal.
Try not to get carried away and order too much though. The food gets delivered to your table pretty quick so you can order more later on if you need to. Quantities are meant for sharing.
N.
Great variety of dishes. Great for sharing within a big group with a mixture of small and big plates. We got the Balinese chicken, pork belly amongst other things. So much flavour and the meat was cooked to perfection 👌
P.
Amazing food and super friendly staff
R.
I don't know how anyone can give this less than five stars. The food and cocktails are fantastic. Yes the menu is a little more expensive than some places but it doesn't break the bank. Is it value for money? 100%.
The Pork Belly is the best in Auckland. The lamb ribs, and the wagyu beef are also fantastic. There isn't a dish I wouldn't recommend and I think I've just about had the whole menu. I'll be honest and say I've only had dessert once in all the times I've been there, mostly due to over eating with everything else but they look great.
The food is brought out when it's ready. It is great for going as a couple but also fantastic if you have a group of friends and you can order loads of plates to share.
There's a reason my partner and I travel so far just to go there over and over again.
S.
Fantastic food - we ordered 8 dishes to test and they were exceptional. The sauces, the texture and the variety is all there hitting my 5 star taste buds like a gong.
Make a reservation beforehand otherwise you’ll end up waiting a while to get a table.
W.
I have never been a big fan of Vietnamese food, however Mekong Baby, has changed my mind, the food here is fantastic, we had the banquet menu, which gives you a great selection of their best dishes.
The stand out dishes were the soft shell crab bao buns, the braised pork belly & the lamb ribs, we even got an extra serving of some dishes to take home.
The only negative was the sirloin, it is served in large pieces ( with no steak knife) and it was quite chewy.
The staff were fantastic and attentive, it was quite loud and noisy so not a great place if you want an intimate meal.
I will be back you have converted me !
A.
If you’re looking for southeast asian fusion cuisine, look no further! Mekong Baby serves amazing and delicious dishes! I personally love their Sticky Hot Wings with Gochujang and Chipotle! A really good match with their Mekong Baby Lager! Oh they are also Vegan, Vegetarian and Gluten Free friendly! For dessert, checkout their delicious Apple Tart topped with Ice Cream! Truly recommended!
B.
Delicious food and superb service. The only thing I didn't like was the $25 cake corkage, its a little steep.
I.
Nice environment. Friendly service from Duncan (Kenyan server). Efficient service from everyone else. We were seated on the mezzanine floor creating a semi private area. The food was excellent - tasty, and plenty of it. The sago dessert was stunning. Cannot comment on the menu cost but thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
T.
Good service and the menus has variety
Y.
Great experience! We have been there a few times now, and love it each time.
Initially we tried the main dishes. They were full of flavour and well presented. We tried the "Let's eat" menu last night and it was amazing. We had a great selection of food to choose from and they were all of excellent quality.
The dinning experience was also excellent. The staff were friendly, knowledgable and have good attention to detail.
We enjoyed dining at Mekong and will definitely return soon.
T.
This place lives up to its reviews! Stunning & very tasty food - great wine choice & superb wait staff. Such a pleasure to eat such sublime food in such a great setting. We went early at 6 and it was empty, but half an hour later it was pumping & getting noisy. So pick your time if you want it more relaxed. Highly recommend soft shell crab, wagyu beef starter & pork belly - simply YUM!
E.
I rarely ever write reviews but I thought this place is so very worth writing of! I had read great reviews about Mekong Baby beforehand so I had quite high expectations but they certainly met the expectations and then some more. The food was flavour packed (to say the least!!) and the service was friendly and approachable. Might I also add that considering that my friend and I arrived around 7.45pm on a sat night our food came out within 10 minutes of ordering it..which I feel is something to be praised for. I highly recommend the papaya salad if you're into a bit of sour and spice and also the pat see yew. I will definitely come back to try the other dishes on the menu!
A.
Well prepared food, everything was delicious. My only complaint was - my wife ordered a Pumpkin curry but it came with potato instead of pumpkin. They had run out of pumpkin and didn't tell us until our meals were on the table. Still tasted great.
T.
The food was incredible, super tasty, great value for money. The Tofu Yellow curry is the best I have ever had. Service was very attentive and fast. Casual environment, welcoming! Can’t wait to go back.
T.
Been at this lovely restaurant before but always a pleasure. Warm greeting & great bar staff for a drink or 2 before going to our table. Great food & we will be back. Thanks to all at Mekong baby for great experience (again) on SAT night.
V.
Food and relaxed atmosphere is just great especially on a summer day. The food has some lovely unique flavours, albiet a few were a tad strong for some (personally I love these bolder flavours), and its a nice place for sharing plates. Great beers and cocktails too.
M.
Not really a Vietnamese food fan...until I went to Mekong Baby. Absolutely loved it. Food was delicious, ordered pork belly and tasted the duck curry. Had entree of the vietnamese rolls and squid, just flavoursome and fresh. Great dinner date and would so go again! Ticks all round for service, food and ambience. Was noisy with a full house, but was not bad at all. Thanks for a wonderful night 🤗
E.
Best pork belly in Auckland!! Amazing cocktails, price on the higher end, but worth it. Vibe is energetic and a little loud. But it is a great environment for a night with friends. Wouldn't recommend for a romantic date... But maybe the first tinder or blind date ;)
T.
Great place, excellent food, decent pricing and attentive staff. We were a group of four and between us sampled a variety of dishes. All were good, none we wouldn't have again, but we'll also try others when we are back.
S.
Amazing food! Always consistent. Loved our meal and stoked with our free mother’s day cocktail vouchers! Thanks so much. Helen and Scott.
L.
Brilliant night out and they even helped organise the surprise for our anniversary. The Lets Eat menu is such a great option but beware its a lot of food!
B.
If I could rate higher I would. Exceptional wait staff who were attentive yet not overbearing, all dishes were rich in flavor and plentiful serving sizes. Would definitely eat here again, even though it is on the pricey side. You're paying for the full experience.
n.
Food great, service average at best .
J.
Serving Vietnamese fusion. We followed what was recommended by our waitress. Her recommendation was spot on, the taste was fantastic, the serving size is decent. We ordered 4 mains to share with 4 people. Service was great too.
T.
Great food, shame about the service.
The table service was quite lacking but it was the bar service that was especially poor.
Upon arrival we were ignored by 3 members of staff who were stood right in front of us, and when someone eventually came to serve us, it would have been quicker and more professional (i.e there would have been less scratching my nose and being distracted by other members of staff) if I'd have served myself.
I'd come again if with friends, but don't think it'd choose to return of my own accord. Shame.
m.
Went there for dinner. Very noisy environment. Can hardly hear the other person. Mango salad and pan fried squid is very good. Full of flavour. But our chicken curry and goat curry were extremely salty. Find it hard to eat even with rice. Checked with waiter. Was told their curry are quite salty. May go back again to try other dishes. But not the curry.
J.
The cocktails were great (maybe a little bit too much ice), food is insanely good. So far the Best thing i ate in a long time. Best slow cooked lamb shoulder i had! Definitely recommend it if you're in Ponsonby area
P.
The menu is simple and varied. The concept of every plate is for sharing is a stroke of genius as all plates listed are intriguing and allowed us to sample more options. The crispy pork belly was very well done and just the right amount of spice and flavour.
R.
The pork belly here is to die for and the set menu is amazing. Definitely worth the money and every dish is full of flavour. Cocktails are also so delicious!
R.
Good drinks, excellent curry but the roti was a little rubbery and not as puffy and flaky and delicious as it has been in the past. This is the real reason we go to Mekong Baby so it was a disappointment that they weren't as good. Other Malaysian restaurants and cafes do better roti now. Very nice setting and helpful staff who were very good with a bit of a spirited crowd.
A.
Came here for a family dinner and it was all delicious! They aren't kidding when they say it is spicy though.
Loved the beef curry.
A.
Good vibe and great staff. A little pricey but worth it for most stuff. The duck was expensive for only three pieces but the mains were a good size. Hapuka and pork was a standout. Really enjoyed the time overall. Recommend for a special night out.
J.
Overall not too bad. We tried the "Let's Eat" degustation The service we received was exceptional. The food was tasty but portions were small and flavours in some dishes weren't as good as other similar resturants e.g. Tok Tok. An OK Cocktail selection, but @ 18 each and served in small glasses, it wasnt great value. Not too bad overall but probably a little overrated as well in my opinion.
S.
Awesome experience here tonight! Greeted warmly as soon as we arrived. Phoned to say we'd be bit late due to Ponsonby traffic. They accommodated nicely. Loved the atmosphere inside. Great decor and friendly service.
Got some recommendations from the staff which we took up and absolutely loved! Food came out promptly and tasted amazing! Thought the ribs entree was a little small, but the crispiness and taste of it made up for it!
My gf went for the pork belly which I managed to share with her, while I had the curry duck. Both yummy in their own way. Too bad it didn't come with rice. Which was an optional extra, but all good. Portion sizes were big enough. Pork was crispy and delish, and the duck not too spicy with a good amount of meat.
While we were both stuffed... she still eagerly ordered dessert, as there were several gluten free options which worked out well for her. Again... well presented and yum! Overall a great experience. Definitely will be back for more!
M.
Mekong Baby is a great evening out. An extensive and unique cocktail menu, surprisingly large portions and a friendly, knowledgeable staff make for a quality experience. The braised pork belly is a standout dish.
R.
We had the most delicious meal tonight at Mekong Baby. Plenty of food, all exceptional. Delicious sashimi, an incredibly flavourful salmon salad, pumpkin and tofu yellow curry, beef noodle dish, beef curries, goat curry, crispy fish, rotis, all superb.
We were served by Manish who was a fantastic ambassador. Can hardly wait to return!
J.
WOW highly recommend this place. One of the best meals I have ever had. Loved the amount of heat in the dishes and vegetarian options. Service was excellent as was the food.
D.
The food was delicious and service was great! It would have been perfect if noise was controlled. Curtains are noise absorber. Another inexpensive and can be funky option is to use fruit or egg trays on the ceiling and paint them black as what you have now.
J.
We started with cocktails that were on point, quickly followed by green papaya salad. The salad was bright and fresh with a perfect amount of heat. For our main, we shared the spicy chicken curry with rice and roti. The chicken was in an incredible curry sauce that hit all the right curry notes. It was spicy but not overwhelming at all. There was also a little yogurt and eggplant mixed in. The roti was perfect and flaky. It made the perfect vehicle for sopping up the delicious curry. Service was very friendly and very fast.
W.
Nice ambience and friendly staff....not the best Vietnamese but pretty good and great craft beers.
V.
Their ice cream and service has always been awesome. However, I wish they put more people especially on a busy weekend night. Poor girl running around from one end to another. I know some people think it's not too difficult. I do hope she got some help though.
S.
Had the $60 set menu thing. They told us to take it slow as it's a lot of food and they were not wrong. Most of it really tasty though, the fish curry, pork belly, calamari, ribs, chicken wings were all awesome.
T.
Beautiful and relaxing place in Ponsonby area, parking's a bit tight but never loose hope, there's always one spot if you look closely. Ambient atmosphere, very relaxing and friendly. Go there and experience the night life in the area.😎
L.
Amazing food and cocktails, we'll be back!
K.
Beautiful food, drinks and hospitality.
M.
Yum. The food here is just delicious. I am never disappointed. That sashmi fish with the coconut cream and lemon sauce with finely ground brown toasted rice is to die for. Always fun and lively. So worth a visit.
M.
A great place with a lot of variety of food. This Asian fusion cuisine is definitely one of the best option around the city. There are many dishes to choose from accompanied with a nice drinks menu.
The place is big and there is a lot of space to find different atmosphere. (Bar, upstairs, downstairs..)
It was a bit noisy when we went but apparently there is the option of booking rooms for more privacy. Although this information needs to be verified, it’s a big plus.
It’s in ponsonby, so there is convenient off street parking in the surrounding streets.
M.
Was recommended here by colleagues for a friend's birthday dinner venue and was delighted we went! The flavours and fragrances of the food here are simply divine. My gf and I enjoyed the chilli crab starters, followed by the Hapuka fish and Duck curry which were superb. The Milton Chardonnay wine was a fabulous accompaniment. Also the staff were great, and the Manager Marcin was attentive and v friendly. Thank You.
L.
Probably the best asian fusion in Auckland!!! Best service and front of house service. I highly recommend for any foodie.
Their attention to detail on the dishes are next level, my wife and I fought over who was going to eat the last of the iceberg lettuce because the dressing was out of this world - who knew!
Love love love
V.
Very noisy venue but totally incredible food. Can't wait to try it again! Great service.
S.
So, the food at Mekong Baby is incredible. The Balinese chicken has a delish spicy sauce, Vietnamese coffee is great and the squid so good... BUT what let us down, again for the second time, we’re the cocktails. For $18 a pop you’d expect premium top notch cocktails, to your specifications. We ordered cocktails last time and exclaimed to the waiter that ice filled to the very top of the glass meant we basically got 3 small sips and that was it. He said he would happily make us another and then we saw his manager ( we assume ) block his decision so he came back to us and said... nope. Sorry. We saw his manager look at us to then make this decision. Pretty disappointing.
This time around we thought we would give them the benefit of the doubt and ordered cocktails again EXPLICITLY telling the waitress to only put a small amount of ice / few pieces. When the cocktails arrived, the glass was 70% full of ice - WHAT! The waitress checked in on us, and we explained that they were not what we ordered and she said she had asked the bar staff twice to make sure.
So. Mekong Baby I urge you to give your staff more autonomy to please customers ( who are paying ALOT of money ) or get the order right.
We probably won’t be back.
C.
Food, cocktails and service was all above 100% as per usual. One of my all time favourite restaurants in Auckland.
Hands down the best pork belly in Auckland - definitely needs to be tried at least twice! 😍
C.
Went there for lunch and it was amazing. Service was excellent and the food was to die for. Definitely going back.
L.
Food was beautiful, served an assorted meat variety of small portions for a team of 13, loved the spicy and hot dishes and it had an open fire taste! Absolutely loved the variety of dishes served.. Well done guys, don't mind recommending this place to family and friends ...
L.
This place served up some amazing food, I especially loved the pork belly dish, I had a great experience, and the service was delicious. I was so busy enjoying the food that I forgot to take pictures. I’ll just have to go back next time I’m in New Zealand.
H.
Stopped in here with a couple of friends for a drink and we had a fabulous time. The bar staff were incredible and made us feel really welcome and had a few laughs with us. It was also a nice warm and cosy place on a cold winters day. Would definitely go again.
Z.
Mekong Baby has a great atmosphere, excellent food and very good service. Set menu is great option but be prepared for a large meal. Deserts took a bit long time to arrive but they were great end of the meal.
G.
Food was excellent, especially pork belly, although all food comes randomly with no set order of appetisers-mains etc, and dish sizes are not huge. Service was poor for the price. Most food is spicy, some very spicy.
J.
A regular lunch spot for me! Consistently amazing food and great service too. The lamb ribs are one of the highlights! as are any of the curries. I always leave feeling very very satisfied.
S.
Food was amazing, our host and waitresses were great and had a wonderful sense of humor. We all had a tremendous time. Thanks team for making our Christmas function great.
B.
Great food, lots of options and all of it delicious. Only problem was it gets very loud, couldn't hear the person I was with and at one point we had to practically shout at each other (as obviously everyone else must have been doing too!). Would still happily go back, but don't suggest this would be the place to go for a romantic dinner
L.
Booking is essential however not necessary as they will invite you to sit at the bar as you wait for a table (they have a time limit for eat time).
Awesome range of food to choose from, went with a group of friends and we over ordered. Recommended dishes- Crispy soft shell crab, tamarind, galangal. Roast duck. Pork belly. Green fish curry. Hot wings.
Awesome vibes and great atmosphere.
J.
Easily one of the best restaurants in all of New Zealand. The food served are modern takes on Vietnamese fusion. The soft shell crab, the hapuka and the pork belly were all quintessential to a transcendent meal. Try to come here with some friends as the dishes are all designed as share plates, so the more people the more amazing food you'll get to try. After eating here you'll absolutely want to come back as I have multiple times. Friendly professional staff in a very cool modern environment and atmosphere
K.
Have been here about 3 times now and the food is outstanding! The smashed papaya salad, Pork belly, and Balinese chicken BBQ are a few of my favourites! Great service and cocktail selection.
D.
Excellent food and cocktails. Great, attentive service with friendly staff. Good for a date night or a group. Keep coming back.
J.
See you soonn 💗
It was our first experience at Mekong Baby. Great hospitality and yummy food. A real fusion restaurant with a good ambience. We visited with family and friends and everyone loved it. You made our day memorable. Thanks Mekong Baby 😘
C.
Mekong Baby is one of my favourite Asian fusion restaurants. It has a great upbeat, hipster vibe about it and the staff have always been friendly and provide fast service. Their style is for their dishes to be shared - so depending on the size of your group you will order some small and large dishes to share (meaning you will also get to try a wider selection of their menu). I definitely recommend the pork belly and the papaya salad. Some of their dishes can be a little bit spicy, so keep that in mind if you have a low spice threshold. Mekong Baby has always been busy whenever I have gone and for good reason - their food is so tasty! Book a table if you want to go, otherwise be prepared to wait. Will definitely be back again and recommending to other friends and family.
B.
Most excellent dining experience
L.
Soooo delicious, literally everything we ordered was faultless. Extensive wine list, friendly staff and cool vibes too.
J.
Have been twice before and loved it so was excited to come back and bring with me some first timers. Unfortunately the service was meh, the maître d' was petty rude and they called after 11pm to tell me that our bill was left partly unpaid, which it was not (and dude, wait till tomorrow to get it wrong, Mondays are a hard start without the sleep interruptions) . That said, the food and drinks were the evenings saving grace, delicious as always. Just disappointed that this usually amazing place was kind of lacking.
F.
Absolutely outstanding - possibly my favourite place in Auckland. We go there several times a month. Their Madurese goat curry is heavenly, as is the chilli & guava margarita. Love the pad see ew as well. Service has always been good. Not cheap, but worth it.
S.
Excellent food and great drinks list. The young Latvian lady who looked after us was beyond amazing, particularly given we had some dietary requirements to bend the banquet menu around. Only dropped a star because there was too much food! Not normally a big problem but we weren't allowed to take any of it away (I understand the food safety thing) and so much good kai just ended up being thrown out. A shame. However, will definitely come again for a la carte and cocktails.
F.
Great food, authentic flavours. Pork belly is fantastic. Make sure to order rice as well because it took a very long time when you order it separately. Make a reservation as the place gets packed.
D.
Absolutely loved it. Great food. The porkbelly is amazing. Loved the spicy chicken and the prawn salad. Not cheap but well worth it. Make sure to book ahead or you miss out. Very busy on the weekends.
M.
Very patient staff. Lovely sharing food. Excellent wine list
R.
The menu at Mekong Baby is extensive and so amazing that it was hard to choose what to have. As a result we went with the "Let's Eat" chef's choice menu. The pork belly was my personal favorite. After finishing it I was content to be done. That's when our server said, 'Are you ready for the main dishes now?" It just kept getting better!
Not a quiet venue so don't choose it for an intimate dinner.
S.
Good food, really good mixture of asian's best with kiwi's taste!
J.
This place has a great vibe, the tamarind and lemongrass floats out of the kitchen as you enter. We ordered Saigon Export, Kingfish Sashimi Nam Jim, Papaya Salad and Pad See Ew. The Saigon was unavailable and the Kingfish was switched to Tuna without telling us, which forced an unethical purchase that I wasn't happy with. The rest was excellent. Beautifully cooked, flavoured and served by attentive staff.

Pretty decent fusion thing. Had a set menu from here which, while a bit pricey, was pretty decent. I was a bit shocked when I discovered there is almost nothing in the regular menu that is vegetarian - but they did customize each dish in the set menu to make a vegetarian version. The highlight were the summer rolls.

Tasty food, even if the plates were occasionally not quite what was expected. Fun to try multiple dishes and share. Friendly, helpful service. Gets busy, we went on a Wed night and it felt pretty full at 8pm.
N.
Food was amazing. Helpful staff. Recommend the 'feed me' choice for a varied selection. Loved things I wouldn't have thought to choose for myself.
D.
Been here a couple times now and can't go past the hapuka and pork belly, what a dish! All the food is good though, you can't go wrong and plates come out apart to encourage sharing. Busy as always even on a wet Wednesday night
P.
This is my favourite restaurant in New Zealand. The staff is very friendly. The food is amazing also the drinks. My favourites are Balinese Chicken, madras chicken curry and also the mango salad.
A.
Bustling, busy restaurant on the Ponsonby strip. Asian fusion cuisine, good cocktails, wine and beers. Kingfish sashimi was very good (although more like Ceviche, I reckon). Soft shell crab with slaw in bao was incredibly good. Crispy skin fish with twice cooked pork belly was an unusual combination that worked brilliantly.

R.
Food excellent. Cocktails even better, especially if you have a sweet tooth!
A.
A large group of us. We shared our dishes among ourselves. The food and staff were very good.

I gave 3 stars because hands down the food was good, however the treatment we received at the end was repulsive. I went there for dinner on Saturday to celebrate my b-day with one of my friends. I ordered some entrees and a duck curry dish. I didn't anticipate that the entrees would fill me up so I asked if I could take out my duck curry since I was not able to eat it and the waitress explained that they did not allow take away. When the manager came she said, "You can take your time and try to finish the meal because of the health and safety policy ". So I had to pay for a meal that I did not eat because I couldn't take it out and I couldn't force myself to eat when I was full. To make matters worse the waiter started checking on us every 5 mins to check if we had tried to eat the food that was still on then table which made me so uncomfortable to the extent that my friend expressed feeling uncomfortable, so we had to leave. NB: if you are not a big eater skip the entrees and order your main as they don't do doggy bags. I don't normally get doggy bags when I go eat out but if you have to pay for a full meal that you haven't eaten then, might as well get a doggy bag.
D.
Second visit. Very cordial and great service. Pork Belly is a must try and lot of variety of dishes to share with family and friends.
K.
Great food, good size portions, long wait for a booked table, past our dine time. Waited quite long for our order. But very tasty
O.
Great food and service. Highly recommended.
K.
Always amazing food, cocktails and great service. Any time we have visitors to Auckland we take them here. Highly recommend ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I.
The best pork belly! The best lamb ribs! Actually just amazing food. The one thing that annoys me about Mekong Baby is that the payment system asks for tips. It's just a bit unfair and designed to make you feel guilty if you don't give a tip as wait staff are watching you. If I go again I'll take cash.
A.
Its pricey but worth it. We spent NZ $160 for 2 which included 2 cocktails and 2 wines. Oh and we had to order another sashimi !
M.
Fantastic we had a group of 7 Service was fantastic and food delicious. We all ate the “let’s eat” menu and we had so so so much food which all taste great. I particularly enjoyed the crab on the bettle leaf
s.
Delicious food and attentive staff
G.
Delicious food, great atmosphere. Sashimi...yum, pork belly.... wow!
M.
Amazing Delicious Food Great Atmosphere on the Pricey $$ side but well worth it
R.
We had an end-of-year staff dinner here on Friday night and it was amazing! The staff were friendly and helpful and the food was delicious. We will definitely be back and highly recommend Mekong Baby!
K.
Great concept, food to share. And it's also super delicious. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Love it.
L.
Friendly attentive service, pork belly deserves it's awards. Give the set menu a try, it was worth the price.
R.
The lamb and the pork are amazing
A.
Great atmosphere, great service, great food, great drinks. Make sure you order the pork belly and the ginger & chili mojitos are pretty great too.

Friday night and walk-in after a sunny day means long waits for good food - anywhere. Mekong Baby was no exception. Fortunately, they found a space at the bar for the table wait, and, over a drink invited us to order an entre.
The Banh Mi Thit Bo (Beef roll) as an entre was sensational. Wonderful balance of meat, herbs and chilli. It perfectly matched the IPA we were drinking.
Mekong Baby has an amazing array of cocktails, spirits, wine and beer - especially bottled craft beer.
With good beer and great food, the wait for a table seemed short.
The menu isn't too large (a problem with too many Asian restaurants trying to please everyone - but satisfying too few). Each was a fusion 'take' on traditional Vietnamese dishes (and a few other SE Asian favourites). And, there were also a couple of 'blackboard' specials.
The Nem Re (Vietnamese Pork Rolls)) were OK, fortunately not too much meat but did need less 'grass' and more herbs to take it out of 'ordinary'. And, Hoisin sause doesn't work - too heavy. We asked for - and got Nuoc Cham - to balance the meal.
The crab in the Betel Leaf, Crab, Kaffir Lime & Chilli morsals let down an otherwise great dish. Should try a more flavoursome crab meat.
The Kingfish Sashimi, Green Nam Jim, Coconut & Basil salad was sensational - just out of this world. A great balance of flavours, textures, sweetness and spices.
The treat for us was the Crispy-Skinned Hapuka, Sweet & Sticky Pork, Pear, Radish & Herbs - brilliant!!! A whole plate of either fish or pork could have been too 'heavy'. This dish offered a variety of flavours that both complemented and contrasted.
For us, rarely do we find an 'edgy' restaurant with all dishes at perfection. More than 75% is enough. Mekong Baby was well above the 75%.
Well worth the effort - but book a table first.
The coconut and
R.
Best restaurant we have tried in Auckland so far!!! Excellent service, food and setting. Highly recommend for foodies!!! The Hapuka and pork meal may sound unusual but is a must try!!!
P.
A very nice Asian fusion restaurant with great food that comes in large sharing portions. Lots of seating as well as private rooms.
Would recommend
K.
Good food but had horrible staff experience spoiled our birthday surprise and messed up our orders several times
j.
Amazing food, drinks and service. I can't recommend it enough. The atmosphere is great and the full dining experience is fantastic.
J.
Just had the desert... But their is no "just" about those desserts. They're really good.
Service is good, a little "big city" pointy but once post that it's slick and friendly.
a.
It was good vibe and food.
J.
Could've gone for less criticism about how much food we ordered - otherwise, delicious!
D.
Lovely meal. Seated in a slightly separate room. Well looked after by the staff. Not cheap.
S.
Fast service by waiter but food was a bit rough and ready. Our salad was too salty like the sauce was not balanced. A good atmosphere but the food needs some work
F.
One of the icons of P Rd. Amazing interior and crisp service make Mekong Baby a pleasure to visit. Firm favourite is the amazing crispy skinned hapuka dish definitely try. Also the coconut sago for dessert. If you can only choose one place in Ponsonby to eat at, this is it....
N.
Foods are delicious, some of them too spicy for me though. People are friendly.. good service
M.
A great place to eat. Very tasty. Sat outside on a very pleasant evening. Go with the "Lets Eat" option. They just keep brining dishes so you get a great selection from the menu
B.
Everything was delicious, food and cocktails! Service was on point. Nothing to fault.
K.
Excellent food. Large portions. Good service. The only reason for 4 stars is that they don't do doggie bags. It's wasting food and I hope they change the policy.
G.
Pork belly is divine as is the rose and lychee martini! Seemed like everything has a little chilli in it though so watch out if you dont like spice, and they don't do takeaways - don't over order!
R.
The Let's Eat banquet is awesome, they dealt with a group of 12 including a vegetarian without missing a beat. Great food, great service, great place.
A.
Always satisfied. Love the food exceptional especially the spiced lamb ribs. One of the top places to eat in my opinion.
P.
A note regarding gluten-free for coeliac readers: Most items noted as GF are actually not, e.g. fried in a shared fryer or in standard soy sauce. Otherwise good food.
S.
Great food, staff, atmosphere, will be back again
S.
Great ambience, lovely food, fast service and good vegetarian options. Hot sticky wings are awesome!
P.
Beautiful food. The girls we had for our table were very friendly and quick. Highly recommend
G.
I hope you like spicy food bc literally everything we had is haha. All plates go from hot to needing a-new-mouth hot haha. For accessibility, note that Men's toilets are upstairs. As for service, we had some trouble at times getting various things like rice when we needed it for some dishes, drinks occasionally and other small things here and there for our group. Wouldn't recommend kids here either (if you needed to ask)
C.
AMAZING FOOD!!! Never had a bad meal here always delivers to a really high standard. Would definitely recommend the pork and the roti!
D.
Lovely waitress, top service even though I was only there for a quick beerzie
A.
So delicious, lots of flavors and spice also catered to my gluten free partner needs. Thank you.
A.
My go-to for friend catchups/group dinners in Auckland. Great food and drinks! Love the Lychee mocktail and pork belly. Fun vibe, great atmosphere and excellent staff!
N.
Food was fantastic, service also great. Waitress very helpful with our order, offering advice for the different tastes and requirements.
J.
Brilliant restaurant. Flying back to Ireland from Fiji, we left the airport to eat here because it was so good. Fantastic cocktails. Not cheap but worth it
T.
Busy restaurant that keeps tables back for walk ins.
Asian fusion food.
Thai and Vietnamese specialities.
Friendly service
M.
Thoroughly enjoyed my meal, was a very full restaurant and we had out meals very quickly. However, waiter forgot to give us knives.... very awkward to eat with no knives....
N.
Been a few times and delicious food again, but the Mekong tap lager was simply watery. Would still come back again. Coconut sage desert is a winner.
C.
Normally great service here but tonight was a bit off. Will head back again in a few weeks and will update review if it's back to a better standard. Food was great though.
y.
It's interesting combination of Thai Chinese and Korean food. The service is a bit slow but maybe they were busy on that day. Beer selection is limited (4 types).
J.
Would surely go there one more time. Had Mkt Fish and goat along with Veg dishes. Cocktails are the best
P.
Very tasty food. Hefty portions that reflect the price! Good wine selection. Prompt service.
P.
Great experience, amazing food. Loved it.

E.
Beautiful food and exceptional service. Thoroughly recommend and I will be back very soon.

Food is always pretty good, but service could be more attentive. Would also be nice to be able to sit in the restaurant for lunch, instead of the bar.
M.

M.
Mekong Baby served the most superb fusion Asian meal. Top quality service and very creative, top class cuisine.
T.
Had a Birthday dinner here for a group of 24, the service was amazing from the initial dealings with Nelka who took care of my bookings and ongoing requests and the wait staff on the night Max and Angus who looked after our group superbly were so attentive and friendly, not too mention the delicious banquet, so many of my guests said it is the best pork belly and red beef curry they have had, would highly recommend coming here!!
L.
We went there for dessert after having dinner somewhere else. Nice setting and staff were friendly. Absolutely loved the Ruby Rose cocktail I had.
J.
Food was super well made and delicious. Will definitely be back.
J.

T.
Enjoyed dining there with fellow mates and our wives. The food was superb, the staff were friendly and the ambience was perfect.
E.
I love this place and repeat visit often - great food and cocktails. Worth a visit but recommended booking a table before hand to minimise the wait :)
T.
Bloody tasty, fast & friendly service and excellent gin tonic. The holy trinity, even on New Year’s Eve without reservations
M.
Amazing food. Great service. The place is a little loud which may or may not be your thing.
K.
The River Sipper mocktail is superb. Loved my duck red curry too.

Incredibly delicious food and wine selection but its seriously noisy inside...very loud to the point that you cant hear the waiter talking.ts one of the reason why I dont want to go back

Squid special strange
Soft shell crab oily
Amex add 3%
Staff great
Time to look for somewhere else
K.
Food was great
Price was higher then I thought.
Nice place and tasty cocktail.
L.
Overrated. Mostly just pub food with an Asian twist. 1 out of 4 dishes was better than food court Thai or Vietnamese food.
D.
We did the "lets eat" option and just had trays of food brought to us. Definitely worth it and would recommend that option if you want to try a bit of everything
M.
Fantastic food and great range of craft beer, service was very quick, almost too fast, this could have been due to the time we were there.
M.
Fantastic service. Good food and cocktails. Quite pricey but worth it.
N.
Excellent service, super excellent food and great ambience. A bit noisy for Tuesday but that proves the popularity of the joint.
S.
Brilliant place! The food is delicious and the service is lovely. Absolute would come again!

All I can say one happy tummy here

Love this place. It's got contemporary Vietnamese food. Amazing selection of cocktails!
K.
Still the most complete experience on Ponsonby Rd. Got a seat at the bar and enjoyed their take on a marguerita. Superb!
F.
Delicious food. Try the Pork Belly Main. Skip the entrees and go straight for the main dishes which are better value.
K.
Had a lovely meal with friends. Great interesting food, pretty spicy for me but yum.
