The good: Great service, it was like everyone there wants to take care of you and all of them walks around with hand sanitizers. We were also very happy with how tasty the food was. The bad: We ordered the Shanghai chicken dish but when about 1/4th of the dish was left we noticed a shrimp in the dish. Now it is fine with us but could be an issue for someone with a seafood allergy and it was definitely not meant to be in there. We informed the lady at the restaurant and she was very apologetic but we felt they didn't know how to handle a situation like that. She took away whatever was left of our dish but was never replaced or refunded. We were happy to carry on eating that but they just took it away without asking or offering anything, which felt strange. Everything else was great.

If you want an excellent Indian restaurant to go to in Auckland this is the place to be We were recommended by friends, so we thought we'd test that theory out and try it out for ourselves *The service was excellent we were catered like royalty by very friendly staff *The waitress did our order! expecting her to forget an item or 2 - She tells us our order without missing a thing, that for us as regular customers dining out was outstanding *The men were excellent making sure all the customers were all taken care of and double checking to see if anyone needed anything with water being refilled without question *The restaurant decor was very nice it was low lit by candle lights *Easily accessible to get to your table *The tables were nicely presentable *And lastly the food well the food was second to non the best we've eaten in Auckland - It's normally served mild but hot on request the food all around was better than expected it was an absolute pleasure dining here - Huge thanks to all the staff

I have been going here since they opened their doors. The owners are still always there to greet you and make you feel like you're a guest at their home. The food is one of the best Indian in the city. True tandor and flavorsome dishes, which over the years are being fine tuned. The decor of the restaurant is amazing and they have constantly updated it over the last couple decades. Major props for thriving in a cut throat industry for this long. Can't wait to go back!

Amazing place! Even though we arrived 20 minutes late for our 8:20 booking they received us with beautiful energy, the service was amazing throughout the whole night, offering water refill constantly, the food was delicious one of the best places I've tasted so far. The ambient and decorations are high level, beautiful atmosphere for sure. The whole team was super friendly, a 5 stars for service as well. Good job Oh Calcutta team!!

First time dining here for a friends birthday and wow it was amazing! Best Indian food I’ve ever had and the staff were so attentive and welcoming. Everyone at the table said it was outstanding and we will definitely be back! Thank you so much!

We enjoyed a beautiful dinner at Oh Calcutta. The staff were welcoming and very friendly. Atmosphere and ambience was lovely, and the food was amazing. Certainly going to be come back again, a lovely dining experience in Parnell.

This evening it was my first visit to Oh Calcutta with my family which is their weekly destination. Staff was amiable and caring ( felt very well looked after). Omg 🤭.... I was about to forget to mention about food. Food servings were good and much to mention about the flavours that was just right. From my happy tummy to you all who reading this do give a try YOU WILL LIKE IT!!

Definitely one of the best Indian restaurants in the city. I always ask for extra spicy vindaloo and most places never make it hot enough, or else if they do, it only taste of spice. They make it a perfect balance. Plus Anand and the team are all lovely and very hospitable.

We hadn't had Indian Takeaway for sometime. This was without doubt the best Indian meal we had eaten in a long time. Beautiful fresh dishes and to die for garlic naan. Delivered on time and beautifully hot as well as perfect spice heat as requested. Highly recommend. Great job @Oh Calcutta

Oh Calcutta, Oh Service, Oh Staff, Oh Food, Oh Ambience, Oh Location, Oh You Are Awesome. Service and Staff above and beyond. They are so friendly, well presented, professional yet subtle, down to earth who would make you feel at home. They cheer you up and make your visit truly extra special. Ambience is good too, subtle yet very classy. Food is very tasty. We were surprised to see a rather limited choice of dishes but we can make out they put 100 percent love and taste in every single dish. They serve you really quickly, however busy the restaurant may be. Chicken Shah Jahan is a really delicious dish if you don't like too spicy food. Yes as they say, it seems a royal dish. Kadhai Paneer Masala just surprised us both. The taste was outstandingly delicious. As Indian's we love spicy food yet not too hot and this was just the way we wanted. We will certainly visit them again to try out other dishes. We ended up wondering why we didn't try this restaurant earlier. We were blown away with our yesterday's experience. Oh and the location, Parnell is just perfect, no description for this. You just got to experience it. 2nd review - no 2nd thoughts. We are surprised to see some negative reviews complaining about the service. The consistent customer satisfaction of over 25 years is a testimony, that this restaurant is proper good overall. Oh yes, we look forward to visit again, hopefully rather more frequently. Oh yes, highly recommended for a soulful food served by down to earth team.

Always amazing! We travel a great distance to get our food from here. They are always so kind and happy to see people. Most importantly the food is delicious! I don't buy Indian food from anywhere else because they never disappoint!

Level 3 takeaways... Oh Calcutta is on point! The quality & taste of their food is not compromised in their takeaways - exactly like dining in except in your PJ's! The Billy Goat curry was super tender & the flavors aromatic. All our dishes were fabulous. Highly recommend.

Excellent food, great delivery (during lockdown) ... they are very conservative with spice levels so if you choose medium no one in the family will be offended. Their goat is my favourite.

It was a spontaneous decision to go out for dinner last night. Was unsure if Oh Calcutta would take us in (2aduts and 2 kids) without a booking. But we just tried and they were so nice to accommodate us. They politely ask us to wait until they have a table ready for us. Honestly, we are so pleased with everything, the experience from the start to the end was amazing. The food was so good 👌. My 13 year old son don't usually comment on any food served to him, but last night he said, "emm..that was good", after finishing his food. This will definitely be our personal family favorite and we will definitely come back. Well done to the team at Oh Calcutta🙏

The best Indian food I've had in NZ. As good as any UK restaurant I've eaten at. Drove 40 mins each way for a takeaway and wasn't disappointed. Excellent quality!

One of the best curry houses in Auckland. It isn't the cheapest but once you taste you will know why! Excellent flavour. And the service is sublime.

Top notch service everytime. Waiters are super attentive and check on us throughout the meal. Dont have to wait for them, they quickly approach you. They know the menu well and can make good suggestions. Really good quality food. Love the tandoori salmon, it's a must-try. Dhal Makhani is very nice as well. Papadum is super addictive so we always end up ordering more. Love coming here and will continue to come in the future. :)

It was wonderful experience going to the place for d special occasion. The ambience hospitality and food was superrr awesome. Further the staff were so friendly and make u feel like home. Pan Icecream they served was extremely mouthwatering watering. It had that warm feeling around nd nice music with traditional idols on d wall u feel like u r somewhere in India and the taste of d food was excellent. Even they have taken care of our dietary requirements. Chef was really kind enough to make changes on d spot in curry according to our taste buds. Special thanks to rohit and a lady didn't know her name as they helped us a lot, as it was our first time there but felt like very special. once again thanks to all d staff. will visit soon.

The best Indian in town in my book! The curries are all delicious but our regular go to is the Dal Makhani, don't forget to start with the super tasty Samosa's.

I'm a fan of their Butter Chicken as well as Samosas. Other family members love Saag Malai Panner and Channa Masala. There is always enough Cumin Rice and we also love the Plain Butter Naan. Thanks for keeping us fed!

A bit pricy the the quality is perfect and unchanged. The delivery is always on time and people are so courteous. Highly recommended. Try the vegetarian samosas with the tamarind sauce.

Hands down the best Indian bites in town. Must-try include their Butter Chicken, and Saag Malai Paneer. Oh, and their Mansoori Lamb Shops are unrivalled. Oh Calcutta never misses, and if you haven’t already, you need to check ‘em out, stat.

Hands down some of the best Indian food in Auckland. Staff are lovely, curries are immense, great vegetarian selection (the Kadhai Paneer Masala is a standout for me), would highly recommend!

Food was absolutely delicious a little pricey but definitely worth it and not forgetting the excellent customer service by the lovely ladies at the front I will highly recommend this restaurant.

Descent Indian food. Taste very authentic. Butter chicken simple but good. Chicken tikka masala was even better. Chicken thigh was very tender. Only service was little unprofessional.

First rate, as always. Oh Calcutta is my go-to Indian takeaway joint. The hype about their butter chicken dish is totally justified.

A good Indian restaurant up on Parnell.Their service was good, served us water and poppadoms while we were waiting for our food. The mains are nice, I ordered the Punjabi Saag Ghosht (lamb in spinach sauce) and that was perfect; the lamb was tender and the sauce was very flavorful. The mango lassi was quite good too, cut the heat from the curry.

The best Indian house in town, a little pricy but worth it for the food. Water is well over priced. Have been here 4-5 times and have never been let down by the food.

Chicken tikka masala was very tasty, chicken was so tender i enjoyed our meal with the naan bread. The punjab saag ghosht was also tasty with the chicken being tender, ordered the hot meal and my mouth was burning. Reccommend to try their food.

Went in for a birthday dinner with friends and family. The staff were wonderful and very accommodating. I had a cake delivered to the restaurant, which they received on my behalf, then took care of everything - from setting us up with beautiful food, adding candles to the cake, and even packed the cake into individual containers for our guests to take home!

My partner ordered a takeaway via ubereats and the packaging leaked a little, but I assume that is not the fault of the restaurant but of the delivery driver. A little cold and the prices are definitely on the pricy side but my kids approved! We eat Indian a lot and this was up to the mark.

I can safely vouch for this restaurant as one of best place to have Indian food in Auckland, abit pricey but well worth it. The ambiance was nice, it was fairly crowded the service was good and the food was amazing, I think the Lamb Seekh Kebab were the best!

A regular for us. The service is absolutely wonderful. So friendly and attentive. It’s hard to deviate from our favourite dishes as they are just so lovely. Indian food is not generally my cuisine of choice, however no longer the case when it comes to this restaurant. It’s delicious. Oh Calcutta !!.. wondering people, great ambience and exceptional food. Wanted to eat here from a long time and I finally did today, sadly I got a takeaway and didn't dine in but I still received a very warm welcome and good service. The food is really good, nice balance of flavours, right level of spicy as requested. Will definitely be going here many more times.

Given quantity of food was not worth the price. Flavours are good but not that great. Limited options on the menu for food. Otherwise good eminence, service.

Moving here from the UK I had been warned that Auckland's Indian restaurants wouldn't hold up to the same standards. Whilst in general that may be true, this restaurant is the exception. The food was superb, the service was excellent and very friendly. There are some tables outside for when it's a nice summer's day (something they don't have in the UK). All in all very enjoyable and will be going again.

So I think this is my third edit to this review and nothing has changed. The food is still exemplary, along with the ambience and service. How some people rate them less than 5 stars is beyond me. This is a consistently good place to eat. Still probably the best Indian restaurant in Auckland! The food is divine and cooked to perfection. The staff are attentive and friendly. If there was any gripe it may be that customers are a little crammed in. A small price for perfection I say.

When it comes to Indian restaurants I generally only judge on the quality and flavor of the food as I usually get take-away. Not to say this establishment is not a great experience on the customer service front it really is, but the food! I have had three different dishes the first was the butter chicken (most commonly sold dish). It was AMAZING I do enjoy my food a bit on the spicier side and this did not disappoint! Second time I had Saag Malai Paneer with Mattar. Super delicious! Finally for the dish I value above all others, this is the best Vindaloo I have ever eaten. Period. If you enjoy spicy food I highly recommend the Vindaloo. Will definitely be back again and again.

Friendly customer service with great quality of food! Went there for anniversary celebration without booking in advance, staff there made sure we were served nicely. Big kudos to the owner who offered to look after my 4 months old so that we could eat in peace. Thank you guys for the amazing customer service.

This is simply the best Indian restaurant. An absolute must when in Parnell. I have been coming here for over 10 years on a very regular, bordering on compulsive, basis. Mina and all the restaurant staff are kindest and most accommodating at all times. The restaurant gets very busy very quickly so I recommend coming early, as early as 5:30 pm or booking ahead for more popular times. There isn’t a night when the place is not full, including the outdoor section. All dishes are very authentic and without comparison in terms of flavours. 5 stars doesn’t do it justice. Open 7 days for dinner from 5:30pm plus lunch during weekdays. Closed major bank holidays and a usual 2 weeks break around Christmas and New Year.

Went there last night for the first time to order takeaways. You could just see it was going to be good, the dining area was packed. I ordered the Buttered Chicken and a Cheese Naan Bread. The buttered chicken was the best I've ever had. The texture and flavours were delicious and the Naan was spot on. A bit pricy ($29 for Buttered Chicken, Rice and Naan) but would pay that again and again. The only issue/Not an issue was the Chicken pieces were too big but all in all was good!!

Ambience, staff are way too friendly, smiling. Highly recommended. As I have been there first time it's way too different from any other Indian restaurants. Love it..

Mate, if your looing for comprehensive flavors and an all round banger of a curry. Oh Calcutta will deileiver a great curry everytime. Regularly have the Korma and Saag, both great in flavors and when increased in heat it's even bettwe. Staff are the best and resturaunt is clean, tidy and soothing for when you need to undo a button for your curry belly

We had a family dinner here to celebrate a belated birthday. The food was excellent, the service very good, and the pricing was extremely reasonable. My only niggle was that we couldn't book the time we wanted - the owner has to ring you back to tell you what time you can come. Slightly weird that bit. But it certainly didn't stop us enjoying the evening.

They have very heavy naan breads and very few vegetarian starters, the curries however are very well balanced and taste wonderful.

Excellent Indian restaurant in Parnell. They don’t do Uber Eats but you can order delivery which is quite pricy @ $12 and can be done on their . The wait on weekends is about 40-60min. We usually get the Tika Marsala, Korma, Butter Chicken, and Aloo Mattar. All are excellent and the chicken always have a nice smoked flavor. The garlic naan is a favorite in our house and we usually get lots of them especially when the kids have friends over as is usually the picture. The prices are about 20% above average but the quality more than makes up for it. The restaurant itself is quite nice and usually very busy on weekend evenings.

The food is absolutely amazing. They let you bring wine with a convenient wine shop across the road so perfect. The black Dahl is not to be missed! The service was great too and very speedy but not rushed.

Went there reading the reviews but was disappointed with food. It has good atmosphere with a dim lights and traditional music playing in the background. The service was exceptional with the staff attending you when needed. Though the portions were good, the food was just average.

I love the food here - I am originally from the UK so we have a vast amount of Indian Restaurants available within my Home Town of Birmingham, and also Michelin Star Indian Restaurants. Oh Calcutta is one of those Restaurants that offers a perfect service and the most amazing meals.

Favorite place in Auckland to eat. Always amazing fresh delicious curries! The vegan options are great- The Black Dahl is incredible! The staff are so friendly i really love this place and always feel good when i leave! Happily reccomend this as the best indian restaurant in Auckland :)

The food is really nice, with a good presentation. The service was pretty decent! It is not so private, the tables are quite close to each other, but it totally deserves a visit. I can’t wait to be back. It is not that cheap, so I would recommend it for a special occasion.

Best Indian restaurant in Auckland. The setting, the staff, the crisp white linen, the food, it all works together to give a superb experience. You can get a seat without a booking if you’re early, but otherwise it’s a good idea to call ahead. The menu is varied and you can ask for your spice preference at the time of ordering. I’ve been here several times, and have tried several different curries, naans, and starters, and I enjoyed each dish immensely. I’ve shared meals here with colleagues and clients, no one has ever left here hungry! I recommend getting the mixed pickle on the side instead of going too spicy with your main, as this allows you a bit more control on how much rice or yoghurt you’ll have to consume if you get it wrong. The alcohol selection also helps if you overestimate you spice prowess 👍🏽

Had the classic butter chicken which was well flavoured, but the curry sauce was far too diluted, almost like it was water, not rich and creamy like it should. A disappointing experience considering previous visits have been much better food wise.

A nice indian restaurant with great food, and friendly service despite that the speed can be quite slow at times. Their food are yummy and the meat are soft, tender, and very succulent; and their meat are soaked with the spices. Their biryani is one of their best, and their curry closely follows. Hands down one of the best indian restaurant in Auckland.

One of my favorite Indian restaurants, although I prefer the old menu which had more things to choose from. We’ve been coming here for 6 years now.

Been going here for years and never a single bad experience. Staff are always friendly and the food is cooked beautifully. Dishes are slightly pricey in comparison to some other Indian places but it's worth every cent. This place has become our 'go to' for Indian cuisine.

A nice place to go our eat with friends and family. Very friendly staff and ready to help. I organized a surprise for my brothers bday and they were happy to help with opening early so that I can come and drop a cake and some party hats beforehand. Very nice atmosphere and the food is amazing.

I write lots of reviews and seldom do I have as much pleasure writing this one for dining this Sunday night. The place was moderately busy but service was attentive. I had a bit of a coughing fit and a glass of warm lemon water arrived. Dinner was delish and the one serve that was a bit too hot was taken and replaced. The mango lassi tasty and attractive and heaters turned on outside to warm our departure. A lesson for all in hospitality. Well done.

Best Indian food I’ve ever had. Went there on my first day in Auckland and came back next day. Butter chicken is delicious!! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Really awesome food. Never knew this restaurant existed until we went out for dinner with our friends. Nice lights and ambience. Recommend this place if you are in city, Newmarket or Parnell.

Fantastic Indian place with a nice atmosphere and a good selection of dishes on offer. The service is great, samosas are amazing and to quote a lady at a nearby table ‘This naan is some of the best I’ve ever tasted!’

Have to say that we got the best service ever at Oh Calcutta. My mum was a little unwell and got such a lot of care and attention from then. We really didn't expect it. Really good food as well. Would visit again.

Popular and busy Indian restaurant. BYO wine. Beers available at restaurant. Friendly staff and quick service even when busy. Closest to a British curry we have had so far in NZ. Samosas and poppadoms are a must to start.

One of the best, if not the best experience i had in a restaurant in new zealand. The staffs are kind, nice and attentive even when the restaurant is full and busy. The food is amazing, so good that I went back the next day to have another meal. totally recommended.

Best Indian in Parnell and the city, hands down. Terrific for takeaways, eat in and enjoy some awesome service. I've tried a number of mains here, all of them have been delicious. Definitely treat yourself and go for the cheese naan.
