Onslow does an amazing job making the dinning experience for any occasion memorable. We came here to celebrate a birthday and received extremely friendly service from the get-go. A hand written birthday card was set up on the table which was a lovely touch. The food was incredible and surprisingly filling. Definitely recommend getting the salmon and martini trolley as it is such a fun experience. Would highly recommend! Can’t wait to be back.

We are so glad to have our anniversary celebration at Onslow. Friendly staff, best food, beautiful environment. They served us best seat which my husband and I can seat closely. The chicken liver pate from the treats and the salmon trolley and tuna from the starters were absolutely delicious. The pate was a wonderful and light way to start off the dinner (comes with sourdough slices) and the maple masked the foul liver taste really well. The salmon was soft and melted in your mouth, and the combination of salmon mousse, cured salmon and pickle was amazing. Tuna was also cooked to a perfect half cooked-half raw degree. My only slight would be the mains - the aubergine was a bit too earthy and could have done with something like lemon maybe, and the porchetta could have been crunchier. Would love to go back to try the other treats/starters and dessert as well :)

Everything was amazing. The cocktails to start were a balanced blend of interesting flavors. The starting 'treats' were creative and delicious. Highlights for us were the jus with the beef cheek and the chicken liver parfait. We'll be back for another special occasion.

Excellent food in line with Josh's other places. Particular highlights being the crayfish eclairs, oysters, salmon trolley and raspberry mousse. Our waitress Katie was particularly good: confident without being overbearing, enthusiastic but not over the top. Not timid like many people are these days.

This is the 2nd year that have spent my birthday dinner at Onslow. The ambiance, service and food is faultless. Alex rang to say our table was running late and he has set us up at the bar with a complimentary drink while we wait. Very classy and set the tone of the dinner. We all had a drink from the martini trolley and even learned it should be stirred not shaken! We will definitely be back!

Birthday lunch with wife and daughter. Perfect location and ambience. I don't know what could have been improved, maybe the salmon trolley with its squeaky wheels, but its contents were perfect, as was the crayfish eclairs, certainly no shortage of crayfish, I think I might turn vegetarian if all dishes were as good as the egg plant. And we had room for 1 dessert amongst 3, the overflowing souffle - wow! The English girl attending was very professional and we rewarded her excellent service.........probably the chef should have claimed some of it!!! Well done to the whole team.

Absolutely wonderful experience from start to finish. From the moment we walked in we were made to feel so welcome. We chose an outside table which was beautiful and truly romantic. The food was some of the best we have had (and we eat out in some of Auckland's finest). Jonathan was an absolute joy and made us feel very special. Had a wonderful anniversary lunch here yesterday, would love to of added more photos but it was so good we ate it all before we could take snaps! The Hapuka and creamed squid ink paua was an utterly harmonious mouthful, the salmon trolley was out of this world and I loved the attention to zero waste with the tail end being made into a beautiful salmon mousse! Will definitely be back again not just for the food but the wonderful service.

My wife booked for our 33rd wedding anniversary. This is our second visit and wow, it did not disappoint. The food and service was sensational. I loved the way the way the staff asked us how the pace of courses was going? Did we want to slow down so we could enjoy some wine etc. Very slick! A wonderful occasion, straight out of 107 days of lockdown. To have an amazing dining experience, was second to none. We had lunch at Onslow yesterday and it was fantastic. The food was excellent, we were spoilt for choice, my husband commented that it was one of the best meals he has had in awhile. The quality and creativity were excellent. The staff are wonderful, they are attentive and knowledgeable and the wine list is excellent with some great choices that you don't see everywhere. Saturday the 19th of March is our wedding anniversary and this year my husband surprised me with dinner at Onslow which has been on the 'list' for a while. It definitely did not disappoint! The food was delicious and hit all the taste sensations - the service impeccable - the vibe perfect. A relaxing long lunch. The interior is well dressed and comfortable, a great wine list and lots of interesting items on the menu. We booked the Sunday lunch and couldn’t resist adding from the à la carte. Timing of the courses was well considered, and the service is attentive without being intrusive. The kingfish crudo and roast pork with cassoulet were highlights for me. The ginger and fried shallots with the kingfish perfect, and the crispy skin on the pork was divine. Oh, and the salad - super fresh and most vibrant green. My dining companion also raved about the fried bread.

I was led to Onslow by way of a review on their martinis. That was enough for me, as I was looking for somplace special for my birthday. I picked the Sunday long lunch. Easy, attractive, & affordable. From the instant they opened their doors, we were welcomed in with beautiful appreciation. Everyone we encountered, was lovely and gracious. The food. Yes. Just a solid resounding yes. Every course, every bite, each delicately designed plate, was simply beautiful. And at the close of the meal, I was full, happy, and deliciously diluted with martini (s). ☺️ I felt honoured and thanked for being a guest. That the work and attention to detail continues within the Emmett empire, is apparent. It still matters. And the easier way would be to ride the wave and collect the money. Onslow is not that. They care, and it's clear. Thank you for a gorgeous afternoon.

Twelve of us shared the most fabulous "long lunch" together at Onslow. The food was divine, full of fresh flavours and beautifully presented. The presentation was amazing, but the special service is what truly made our experience at Onslow so wonderful! An exceptional meal at Onslow. Lots of different options on the menu, with plenty of seafood dishes to chose from. The crayfish éclair is a must. Its pricey and amall, but it has plenty of crayfish. The kingfish crudo which was highly recommended from our wait staff was delicious. Thick slices of kingfish with candied ginger and crispy fried shallots. The butter poached Snapper with brussel sprouts and bernaise sauce was well portioned and buttery. I don't usually opt for Snapper on the menu but because it was Poached, it was not dry at all. The space in Onslow is beautiful. We sat by the window with a view of Sky Tower and the service was friendly and attentive. Total recommend it!

Food was quite average, and did take quite a while to cook but it was understandable as it was quite busy. The waitress was very kind however, I often had to repeat that I wanted such as another drink, or menu, bill etc. service was good but definitely not the best. View was very beautiful

My husband and I dined here for our wedding anniversary and absolutely loved it. It's classy, without being over the top, with excellent service and beautiful food. The other diners all seem like regulars and very much at home. Great mix of relaxed and luxe. I would definitely recommend and will certainly visit again.

Beautiful setting ,outdoor terrace on a lovely late summer evening with west facing aspect to the sunset and City lights there couldn't be a much better way to surprise a partner to celebrate a birthday. Stunning dinner and excellent wine match suggested by our waitress. The parfait was everything others had noted, salmon exceptional too. Mains we enjoyed the duck and the porchetta, a Chianti suggested, cut perfectly through the sweetness of the porchetta sauce, a simple salad and potato sides were perfect to accompany the mains. Dessert was also such a treat ..it's many years since I was a dab hand at a souffle and the raspberry souffle was certainly a special finish to a lovely enjoyable evening. Thank you to the Team at Onslow from the front of house to the kitchen to the wine source and all others that are a part the effort to place a perfect meal on our plates !!! The food is great though it was difficult for me to chew the roast duck so I ended up eating my husband's food (slow cooked pork belly). The mocktails are really good. Oh, it's good! Really, really good. At times, verging on *excellent*. A great location, well-presented dining room an exquisitely designed dishes, and very friendly, down to earth, accessible service. The dishes are stunning. Thoughtful, really nicely presented, and bold clean flavours. Sometimes they lacked the balance that would give them more depth (some dishes have not quite enough salt, other could do with freshness or acid, others a touch of bitterness... they're just missing that extra little bit of flavour flair to match the visual flair.). But the ideas for each dish is solid, the quality is top notch, and I think the menu will come up to match the subtlety of Ostro and Rata in short order as things get tweaked. The bases of each dish, as they are now, are great! They've got a few wobbles at the moment in terms of service, though - the Sunday night we went, they had a busy full house, and sometimes you had a bit of a wait for service - they probably missed out on an entire round of drink refills' income from our table. 😋Ah, well, I'll be back! There's still half a menu to try out!

The food and service were amazing and we love the personal touches such as the handwritten card and dessert which they prepared for us which had Happy Anniversary on it. As always the food was delicious (we can recommend the kingfish cruddo, the beef cheeks, the duck leg and the raspberry souflee). My husband is a wine buff so he and the sommelier had a great chat about different wines. Our waitress was amazing too - knowledgeable, chatty and just gave such good service. The one goal every resturant should have is to make the customer walk away thinking " that experience was worth every dollar spent" From the tasters to the desserts, everything was on point. This might be an unpopular review, however we found our experience at Onslow pleasant but not really memorable. The food was nice, but not outstanding. Standout dish was the kingfish crudo, we both ordered the duck which was disappointing - the best thing on that plate was the small vege accompaniment. The dining room was busy and the tables are close together, so it was difficult to have a conversation. In my opinion, the offerings did not match the price point, which was a disappointment when we had envisaged a special night out.

The fried bread and the beef cheek were delicious, one of the best I've tasted, as were the large salad and vegetables. Only a lack of time prevented us from dessert and coffee!

I can’t really fault Onslow in any big way, definitely 5 star. But if I’m thinking of places in Auckland to recommend to friends and family it probably wouldn’t be first to mind either. The Crayfish Eclair looks amazing, is refreshing, but I found it a tad on the bland side. Loved the Tuna Tartare and Fried Chicken. I had the Pork Belly for a main and that was pretty tasty too, although I’d have loved a crunchy crackling, which it lacked. It’d be unfair to give it less than 5 star but there are other restaurants I’d go back to before Onslow.

Took 3 colleagues for a business lunch on a wintery Friday and had a fantastic experience. The menu was enticing, making it hard to select. The parfait from the treat menu was was unctuous, creamy and taken to the next level with maple. Best of all - so much brioche was served alongside that the parfait ran out before the brioche - which was unexpected when a personal bug bear is 'meanness' with meal accompaniments in modern restaurants. The theme of generosity continued with the salmon trolley which I chose as a main (can't resist a ceremony at the table). The salmon was divine, and the accompanying mousse was almost another meal in itself. Sadly we couldn't stay for dessert or coffee but that will justify another visit soon. Popped in for a Wednesday night dinner, after having Onslow come highly recommended by a friend. The restaurant was nicely set up and appointed, and the staff were very attentive and caring. Starters were amazing, we had the Lamb's Tongue Schnitzel and Kingfish Crudo. For mains we had the Duck Breast and the Pork Belly. The expectations were high after the starters, but the mains left us wanting unfortunately. The pork belly wasn't what I was expecting, however the duck was nice. I do feel like the prices of the mains were way too high for the portion size and maybe how good they tasted. Followed up with desserts, the Chocolate Soufflé with Hazelnut Ice Cream was pretty good, and we tried the new addition to the menu which was hazelnut/chocolate with truffle ice cream.. This was awesome if you like the taste of truffle. Definitely had a enjoyable experience, and was cool to see Josh himself floating around. Would have been nice if he came around to say hi and show face a little, as this would have made the experience of eating there a little more personable, but I appreciate he's a busy man who is there to cook and not entertain, and in the kitchen is probably where he needs to be. Not entirely sure I'll make this a regular. I like he idea of it and the fact the menu is quite experimental and something different, but the cost of the food lumped with the calibre of the mains hasn't blown me away. 4 out of 5 stars here.

Food was made to very high standards and the ambience is great. My only complaint is that you get a 2hr slot allocated with your booking, so there's an expectation that the restaurant can actually fit all the courses into that window. However, the start was very slow for us, they didn't take our orders until about 25min in, and after our starters it took more than 25min for our mains to arrive. By that time we actually had to hurry and leave as we had something else planned. Maybe we were just unlucky and they forgot our mains, everyone else around us who arrived later had actually gotten their mains beforehand. I wasn't extremely wowed by this experience to be honest.

Onslow is amazing from start to finish. The restaurant is beautifully appointed. The staff are friendly and extremely knowledgeable. The food is up there with the very best that Auckland has to offer. We were treated to a 5 course degustation with wine matches. The special thing about this is that Onslow don't have a degustation option on the menu, but they thoughtfully created an epic journey of food and wine for us to enjoy, literally a couple of hours before our reservation, with personalized menus to guide us on our journey. Now that's going the extra mile. Highly recommended and we can't wait to return. I think the degustation option will make it on to their menu.

Everything was made to perfection and the balance of each mouthful made our mouths so tender! we would recommend the Roast Cambridge Duck Breast. Dessert were the real excitement of the dining experience at Onslow by Josh Emett. This is what dessert is all about! It’s greater then textbook the flavours in each and every bite take you to your happiest moments in life! Nothing but excellence has that affect we can tell you that for sure! We would recommend the Rum Baba to finish off your dining experience at Onslow.

First the good. On the whole the food here is very good. I had the Crayfish Eclair. It was pretty tasty. I also had the Fried bread which was also very good. The dish of the night was the ceviche which was tender beyond belief, lovely seasoning and accompanying sauce. The service was also very good. Prompt, professional, attentive. The big miss tonight though, was the steak. Slightly overcooked (dryish), not tender (gristly or something). It was supposed to have Braised Short-Rib something I was very much looking forward to, instead it had crunchy dry somethings I couldn't identify on top. The Parsnip Cream was spectacular as was the Jus. It felt underseasoned (I rarely add salt at a restaurant). I probably should have said something, but I just wasn't feeling like getting into it with anyone, as I wasn't sure if that was how it was supposed to be or not.

The food flavours are as they should be, where the main item of the dish is truly the highlight, with any accompanying items there to compliment the dish, rather than overpower it. The whole operation is smooth and shows the provenance of the Emetts. Sorry about the 4 stars, where it should be 5, but.... A - the free standing chairs are exceptionally hard on the backside B - the main course of Wakanui Beef was very tough, but they did replace it without hesitation. I also noticed that our two adjoining tables both left their Wakanui mains only half eaten, so there is obviously a problem with this dish. Would we come back? Yes we will.

This is exactly what New Zealand has been missing. Not a stone unturned when conceptualising and creating this incredible venue. From the stunning facade, to the perfectly lit main dining area. The space is truly elegant. Dark timber and beautiful Draped curtains with a back drop of city lights. You could easily feel like you are in New York. The energy in the room was electric. The vibe was really up. So pleasant to be a part of. The service while completely professional has a genuine and sincere warmth. Familiar faces of the leading staff previous from other well known restaurants. We weren’t pushed or rushed when ordering and while we didn’t order the dishes recommended (we had our hearts set from the moment we sat) we will certainly be back to try them. The food was absolutely sensational. I urge you to order the chicken liver parfait. Even if it’s not something you would usually. I could have cleaned the bowl with my finger for every tasty remnant. Only to be polite did I not. I am already planning when I can get back and that dish is a big motivation to do so. The salmon cart is a beautiful touch. A simple dish that adds some theatre to the evening. Our lovely waiter Sandra skilfully slicing the salmon while explaining to us how it was earlier prepared. Also delicious. Pork belly and Duck were our mains. The presentation just as beautiful as the taste. Highly recommend. And, full as I was, I couldn’t pass up this skilfully created airy morsel or heaven - the chocolate soufflé. Delicate and light, you will definitely have room. That’s what I told myself anyway and I am so pleased that I did. Helen and Josh Emmett, thank you. You have created my new favourite dining experience in Auckland. I will be telling anyone who will listen. It is truly wonderful and you deserve every success.
