Reviews of Petit Bocal
S.
Lovely place, easy to miss if you're not looking for it!
I had the mushrooms on toast very tasty, I can recommend highly. Good portion size and unlike some mushrooms on toast I didn't have a sickly rich feeling at the end of it. Did have a side of rosemary fries as well that we shared amongst the table and they went down well with the sauce.
Fries are a good portion and tasted great as well.
Wifey had a bagel with avocado, tomato, cream cheese and pesto. She was impressed by the portion size as well, it looks like she got a whole avo with the bagel so they don't skimp on the ingredients :)
Friend had scrambled eggs and sourdough. Everyone was happy with their meals and we all got some leftovers to take away.
P.
Nice small French café. Offering standard all day breakfast dishes, but with French twist, omelettes, salads. Very friendly service. Small cozy place.
S.
Thank you for always providing the best coffee, pastries and service in town! Petit Bocal is the best on the corner - the staff are so lovely, and they have made every morning lockdown a real treat. Coffee is always strong, delicious and reasonably priced, and cinnamon brioche is to die for. Thanks again, we love Petit Bocal!!
E.
Wasn’t the most memorable visit. The food was okay, however compared to our previous visit a year ago the service standard and food quality had drop. The two waitresses who was standing at the counter was busy on the mobile. The food looked very dry on the plate and nothing special.
S.
I was here for brunch with few of my mates. I must say, I had a Mushroom on toast and it was absolutely delicious and heard the same from the rest of my team also. The staff was very polite and had some great customer service skills. Would definitely return and would highly recommend! Cheers
A.
Coffee was superb, and on top, they gave the best service. Barista man had done a tremendous job. He made the best latte art. We were so happy with that experience. I will go again. :)
B.
We came here for some latte art and this place did not disappoint!
The atmosphere was cosy and inviting. The staff are welcoming and attentive.
There's a great variety on the menu from breakfast, lunch, evening, desserts, wine and drinks. Compared to your regular cafe there isn't just one item on the menu that's vegetarian but a good selection of uniqye dishes.
I ordered the Eggs Florentine. It came out piping with runny yolks, succulent mushrooms and banging flavour.
My friend ordered the Smashed Avo Sourdough Tartine and she had no complaints even though she normally hates asparagus.
We ordered a hot chocolate and mocha and got the most adorable 3D latte art. The drinks were delicious, they did not compromise on the heat. A bonus was that real chocolate was used, which mades a difference in quality that we could taste.
The only issue was that we only received our drinks as we were going to finish our meal (which is understandable since of the effort).
I would highly recommend this place. The food is top notch and the drinks are divine (caffeinated or alcoholic).
M.
We love our local Petit Bocal. Great coffee, great pastries and great people! The cinnamon brioche is particularly delicious and the owner is lovely :) !!
S.
Such an awesome breakfast place. Had the eggs benedict and my wife had the eggs florentine and both were absolutely delicious. The foam art on the coffee and chai latte were a nice touch too. All in all a great experience with really yummy food.
#.
Amazing food, would recommend and there was quite a nice range from vegetarian options to non.
Had the eggs benedict and avacados bagel which were both unique! Eggs bene had a lemon taste while the avacados was really good!
C.
Good service, good food, and nice people.
Had croque madame with fries and smoothie (gym time), personally I like that smoothie a lot💛💛
My friends had breakfast du rol and mushroom on toast, all of them look good and taste good.
It was a great lunch, I will definitely visit there again soon.
E.
Nice atmosphere, friendly staff but I found the food lacklustre and the coffee average.
Our breakfast took 30 mins to arrive, however my partner enjoyed her meal.
J.
Excellent choices in breakfast and dinner menu. Croque Madame is massive and delicious. Perfect Eggs Bennie. Awesome coffee. My favourite place for weekend brunch. Will try dinner soon.
D.
Great cosy local french place in the residential shops. Went there for a typical lunch and food was tasty with french twist and staff was friendly too. I loved the mocha in particular as they had real chocolate added. Cant wait to return and try the dinner menu duck confit.
D.
This place is amazing! They also have the best barrista in Auckland here too! Check out his amazing coffees in the pics. His coffee art is incredible! To top it off, they have great menu too and amazing pastry selection
Z.
Amazing French place for coffee and crepes. A little tight for space, but nice decor and service. The coffee art was also exceptional.
M.
A little nice place to grab some coffee. The egg and salmon was mouthwatering. The croissant was by far one of the best i had in Auckland 😍(almost near to the croissants i had in Europe)
V.
Really cute place. Very hospitable. Great select of dishes. Healthy tasty food.
K.
Awesome food and coffee, not so great service. I wouldn’t go out of my way to go here but if I was walking down the street I’d eat here again. Our waitress (who I believe was the owner) was very rude to us when ordering our drinks. A lot of items on the menu weren’t available (like kombucha) so she kept having to come back to the table and we had to choose something else on the spot. We took a while to choose and she snapped “just choose something!” which I thought was very rude. We considered eating somewhere else but didn’t feel like moving so ordered food. I’m glad we did because the breakfast food was epic. The Croque madame was absolutely delicious, and others got the bruschetta and loved it. Shame that the owners weren’t friendly though. I don’t live in the area so probably won’t go back again.
C.
A very delightful cafe with friendly staff and service, great coffee and a menu that begs for returns.
B.
Coffee is really good here - one of the best in Auckland. And they really put in a lot of effort into barista art.
The omelet I had was also very delicious. All this paired with a great vibe and decor.
T.
Lovely quaint French food café. Great coffee and very healthy lunch options. Reasonably priced. Easy parking nearby and outside.
C.
Great food, service and location. Crispy pain au chocolat, creamy coffee, and the Breakfast Bruschetta is amazing - a plate full of delicious.
J.
The hot chocolate and coffee here is just so good! We didn't order food so we can't speak for it but ask for your hot chocolate or coffee to be decorated ;)
A.
Took a while for our order to be taken but the food arrived pretty quick after that. The food (crepes and eggs bene with bacon) was nice however there was a bit too much lemon juice added to the hollandaise sauce - it was very lemony. Coffee and hot choc were also good although the hot chocolate seemed like a tablespoon of sugar was also added (not requested), it was just very very sweet - could be the hot choc they use.
C.
Lovely coffee and the best omelette I have ever had.
Thank you so much - a lovely dining experience.
A.
Nice people work here. Only dropped in for dessert and had a crème brûlée that was pretty damned good! The menu looked good so will go there for dinner sometime too.
B.
Very neat and friendly French café! Food is delicious :)
A.
Great staff, food is amazing and great value for money. This place open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Plenty of options on the menu.
S.
Nice and cozy ambience with light soft music. Food was not bad, customer service was ok.
E.
Just did breakfast all 5 of us😆smile on the dial says its a hit😉. Great selection of dishez probably to large but kiwis eat loads I guess. Go and be fete'd you'll be impressed...some of the best coffee I've had in NZ😆.(xMelburnian)👀👍
S.
There is a reason why this place is so busy. The food is amazing, staff are friendly, highly recommend.
S.
Great atmosphere and location and they've added quite a few vegetarian options to the menu now thank goodness. Quite a unique vibe for Auckland.
K.
Tasty food and the best coffee in town! Made with love and care, so it takes its time but for this coffee I am willing to wait 💞
L.
Great food, with great coffee. One of the best coffee I ever had. I love the cabnet food there, baked dairy fresh! vegi scon is what I recommend! Muffin is my personal favoriate!
Y.
Ambience-beautiful decor, soothing music
Food-root salad was filling, made roots taste good
Service-friendly, food came quick
Bathroom-clean, but disappointed compared with the decor outside
R.
Exceedingly well priced without compromising quality. I am tempted to lie and say the cinnamon brioche is awful so there is a better chance they will have some when I return. It was glorious, and I should know, I have had a few.
S.
This is a fantastic little French cafe. I have been here many times and will keep returning as the staff are friendly, and they serve great coffee (try the mocha). The pastries are also very yum and they are licenced to serve alcohol (don't think they have top shelf stuff, but beer and wine). Good spot for a couple.
R.
Delicious French inspired food served with a smile :)
M.
Great food and great hot chocolate. Definitely worth it😊
H.
Went here for brunch. The decor is a little basic and the place a bit noisy. I had an amazing smoothie and the food was pretty good. The three friends I was with all enjoyed their meals but all three said the coffee was pretty bitter and bad.
R.
Friendly staff and great coffee and food
B.
Gleeten/gluten free options, vegan, vegetarian, delicious food and drinks
P.
One of the very best brunch spots in all of Auckland. Amazing food. Superb coffee. Gets busy so be prepared to wait or take one of the street front tables. But so worth it!
C.
Had the Breakfast du roi (big breakfast) and it was delicious. Friends really enjoyed their meals too. Normal brunch price range and options with a French flair. Great strong coffee. Nice laid back atmosphere. Attentive and friendly staff. What's not to like?
P.
Amazing latte art and authentic French crepes!
J.
High quality breakfast, lovely fresh baked delights & fabulous latte art. Shame the service let us down we ordered two coffees & the second one didn't come out till half way through breakfast some 20mins later & there was no sour dough toast with one of the meals which the menu stated is with all breakfast meals.
N.
Our first breakfast stop on our New Zealand getaway. This place is so cute & cozy. Scrumptious food & even better coffee. Staff was very helpful at breaking down the menu :)
C.
A lot of food for good prices. Amazing potato dish. Service was prompt and polite but a little stiff. Nice decor and easy parking good location.
F.
An authentic french brunch for reasonable price, also with all your classic kiwi staples
T.
Petit Bocal is a little gem! We decided to pop in for breakfast on a busy Sunday morning and were suitably impressed. After our fresh croissants and coffee we decided to try the poached eggs with citrus hollandaise sauce, beautifully presented on sour dough with mushrooms and pesto- absolutely yummy! Definitely will go back!
C.
Amazing coffee, food, and ambiance. I really enjoyed their dirty chai with gorgeous latte art on it. I would love to go here daily.. if only I lived nearby. Oh!! The fresh pastries are to die for!
W.
One of our favourite locals for breakfast or dinner (evening meal for foreigners). Friendly staff, a chance to brush up on your French if you speak it and great food. A tad pricey but only just. If you want a good meal in a cosy environment I recommend it.
A.
A great dessert experience: 3 lovely dishes shared between 4, and it was nearly too much. Profiteroles, tarte tartin, crème veiled... all recommended.
Good coffee; prompt, friendly & knowledgeable service.
K.
Good coffee and pastries. Good service. Simple, clean decor
R.
One of favourites! The best local place to go around this area with fairly priced food and coffee. Love to have their blueberry muffin and would recommend to my friends to visit for brunch as well :)
B.
Haven't been here for over a year & was pleasantly surprised. Excellent food, excellent service. Will definately come again..and again... thank you!
L.
Good :)
Bread was a bit hard
A.
Best French cafe I have been to with a full menu. Highlights from our group were crossiants and smoothies. For myself I need some more gluten free options and less dressing in plantbased salads. Beauitful cafe. Kind staff. Cosy and good service.
O.
A wonderful French cuisine restaurant in Sandringham Suburbia. It is small and neat, and worth coming to a little bit earlier around 4pm. Start of with a glass of wine and good conversation. The lamb is a must, tender and cooked to perfection, served with a cold side of couscous with freshly chopped red onion and other vegetables.
A.
Great dinner on top of our previous lunch visits. The service and speed has continued to improve over time. I love the picky lunch platter, to share or scarf yourself.
F.
Delicious food especially the tart and Welsh rarebit! Took a while for food and coffee to arrive because it was so busy but well worth it! High chair available for our toddler.
A.
Coffee was great, food was only okay.
c.
This is my local, and it's been consistently great for breakfast, lunch and dinner for the years since it has opened. Love the vibe. Only sad that the shakshuka isn't on the menu any more :( A+++++++
T.
Friendly wait staff. It was her first week but she didn’t miss a beat. Great food and coffee. Super popular so can be a tad busy in the weekends
A.
Fantastic coffee probably the best in Auckland .. i’ll be back
N.
Very nice !! Highly recommended .
I was very happy to pay the price for delicious sandwich ! Unexpectedly I found Asahi Beer and make me even happier . We had great coffee with pretty decoration too thank you very much ! I will go back there for sure .
B.
Great coffee. A bit expensive, but they serve good and healthy food. One of the only places in Auckland where you can find good European breakfast
S.
Love this cafe! Always try to go there when in the area. Tried a lot off their menu and always happy with value and taste.
A.
Would definitely recommend the breakfast. It was amazing with the highlights being their sourdough and sausages. We went to dinner the following week and it wasn't as amazing as their breakfast menu or service
S.
Excellent service, friendly and relaxed. Bagel with fresh & ripe avocado and tomatoes - beautifully presented with microgreens. Yummy chewy bagel too smothered in cream cheese
G.
Egg Bene Club - Auckland
Held our Feb gathering at Petit Bocal. Eagerly anticipated the citrus hollandaise and we were not disappointed. The food, accompaniments and service all rated in the 9 or 10 out of 10. The only area that let them down was in ambience. The noise in such a small establishment was over the top. We provided feedback to the management later in the day and it appears this is being acted on. Well Petit Bocal with a rating of 9.3 out of 10 you will be hard to top in 2017
N.
Excellent coffee. Fantastic breakfasts. Dinner is exquisite. Very safe bet for a nice dinner for two or small groups.
J.
Great french patisserie. Seasonal pastries and muffins. Solid brunch menu. Cute coffee art. Often packed in the morning on weekends expect a wait.
S.
this cafe is such a delight! the staff were so friendly, coffee is terrific and the menu of French and French-inspired breakfasts and pastries delicious!
C.
Food, staff, ambience, pricing, service - all great! We come here often for coffee, but the odd time we have had a meal it's also been lovely.
M.
Dropped by Sunday and it was perfect! Great service, great food and great price, it’s hard to tick all those boxes around the Sandringham/Morningside area. Highly recommend!!
B.
Awesome food (huge portion sizes and affordable), great service, great coffee. Would love to come back.
J.
Cute coffees that will make your day
J.
This place was amazing.
Pretty sure it has been sold recently and the food quality and ingredients have reduced in quality dramatically, with all the prices staying the same.
Its a shame as its was a great little spot.
S.
Had the croque monsieur at brunch the other day. Absolutely fantastic. Friendly staff and great service. Sometimes a little difficult to find a table.
p.
Good service and nice atmosphere but food not that good and our coffee was undrinkable. That's not to say everyone would find it so - maybe we are just picky!
C.
Great coffee, good food, nice music to create an inviting atmosphere, only faults...no air conditioning, bit pricey and free served water was not cold. 4 stars.
E.
Lovely atmosphere, amazing food, waiters/waitresses nearly all French - love this cute cafe! Definitely worth the wait to get a table!
V.
Good food. The sour dough bread is excellent. I would also have a smoothie if you have the time
E.
Take one birthday celebration, add 16 diverse family and friends, mix by courteous and attentive staff, platter with conversation-stopping flavours, and sauce with a touch of excellence.
You got it! Petit Bocal.
A breath of French countryside fresh air ... where the flavours hold their individuality but blend well.
Mmmmmm. This was my first visit... I travelled over 50 kms... but I'll be back. My elephant-memory tastebuds won't allow it otherwise.
A.
This place has a great atmosphere to it, the staff is very kind and the food is delicious! The prices are tiny bit expensive but my guess is that's only because the food is made with high quality ingredients. The only down is that I'm my opinion they put out too many tables so on a busy day it could get very crowded. Enjoy!
J.
Best hollandaise in the city - the eggs Bennie and Florentine are divine! Plus they do super cute foam creatures on your coffee
M.
I regularly meet a colleague here.
Relaxed atmosphere and super good coffees.
And they are okay to have customers with dogs.
c.
Cute cafe tucked away in the suburbs. They have a wide range of non dairy milk paired with a delicious selection of drinks.
M.
Cambridge needs you. Please and thank you.
M.
Ordered few lunch meals , bread was very hard to chew in all of them but staff especially the young asian boy was very nice and helpful.
B.
Great place, good customer service and delicious food.
Eggs benedict spot on, in warm days is highly recommended order the ice coffee.
H.
Lovely restaurant, great cafe with simple and beautiful decor. Love their pastries and coffee, breakfast menu is the best!
B.
Friendly, tasty mid range prices. The service is good but could improve. Overall a good place for brunch and lunch
S.
A favourite little cafe of mine...love their crepes and coffee...sitting in this setting I imagine I’m in France!
Very friendly staff, a pleasure to visit.
J.
The meal was amazing, the coffee was great and the people are lovely.
X.
It is a nice place but too bright, and the food is expensive for a small cafe. But again great food! Very good food
A.
Very nice french fayre, good quality nice atmosphere, friendly staff, we dropped in luckily got a table very busy booking would be a good move
M.
The food was delicious though the quantity was too less. On chicken tartine I found more of the veggies than chicken.
P.
Bagel with salmon was yummy. Bagel was just a bit hard to cut. Maybe just get sharper knives. Food was delicious though
M.
Nice coffee and pastries. Interesting menu. Not too crowded.
s.
Great coffe and yummie pasteries. Good place for a catch-up, usually not too crowded.
K.
