D.We tried the signature experience menu. It was absolutely delicious. Each course with its own perfect explosions of flavours. Would highly recommend to anyone who enjoys fine dining. Service was impeccable and setting was beautiful. We'll be back.

Their crayfishes are very delicious and fresh. Market fish of the day is also mouthwatering and worth the try. If you are a seafood lover, Sails restaurant will definitely be your ocean!

A.Divine seafood and exceptional service at Sails Restaurant. We went for their lunch Bluff Oyster special which was a dozen for $36. We booked ahead so we're given a table by the window which gave us stunning view of the water and harbour bridge
A.Very nice restaurant with an enjoyable vibe and ambiance. This was my first time going here and the food they served was very good value for the price of their degustation ($110PP). My only critique is that the calamari felt very out of place, it was not at the level of the other dishes and was the only black mark on my overall experience

P.Sails is a favourite, consistently top marks. The waiting staff are excellent, attention to detail. Check-in and check-out could be better, but the chef makes up for it; recommend the seafood, especially the bouillabaisse, and the desserts.

B.Always a great experience, I have eaten here 3x now. And don't have a single complaint other than they serve the scallops without the row. A personal preference for myself being from the Kaipara, but understandable. It is fine dining after all. I always order the truffle fries, a favourite of Auckland placed family members whom regularly dine here. Personally I really enjoy the oysters and the passion fruit sorbet is without a doubt the best I've ever had. If your looking for a relaxed fine dining experience with amazing food and great wait staff, look no further.

M.Excellent food and evening, spoiled by being charged two bottles of wine instead of two glasses. When we obviously got a little upset the person checking us out commented - we're not Robots" - we thought rather rude and unnecessary. Such a shame - not even an apology! Sails you have a much better reputation - this employee let you down!

R.We went here recently for dinner. We were shown to a table looking out over the marina, harbour and harbour bridge, which was beautiful. The dining room had lovely ambience; subtle lighting and white linen and candles. Tables were far enough apart and the room is carpeted, providing muted sound levels, despite the restaurant being almost full. It was nice to be able to have a conversation without having to raise one’s voice or shout to make oneself heard, as is the case in many other restaurants.
The service we received was professional, friendly and very helpful, especially in regard to a dietary requirement.
The seafood entrees and mains we had were excellent in their freshness, flavour and presentation.
There was an error in our billing. Another table's drinks were mistakenly added to ours, but it was quickly and good naturedly remedied, so was not enough of an issue to rate our experience as other than excellent.
Thanks to all concerned; we will definitely return.

m.Sails does not disappoints. A bit off the beaten path and parking can be a bit short, but worth it. The view is pleasant and the atmosphere is very comfortable. The staff were knowledgeable and were able to make some great wine suggestions. I forgot to take photos of the ceviche and beef tataki. Would recommend everything. They definitely put thought and creativity into every plate.

H.As per usual, Sails does not disappoint. I am always amazed at the quality of food we get every time we go. The service is also next level, our waiter was quite possibly the best waiter we have ever had at any restaurant. The banter was beyond what you would expect and made the whole evening enjoyable.

Z.After a several years we came back to Sails for a quiet dinner. We knew what to expect and nothing has changed – excellent atmosphere, very friendly staff, superb food. Upon arrival we were seated and welcomed by Hannah. She was looking after us and did an immaculate job. Food wise, for starter we had spiced calamari and sea scallops. Both were perfect and were melting in the mouth. Main was a crayfish with green salad, and it was excellent and just right size portion even with sharing between two of us. During dinner Hannah was checking if every course is to our satisfaction and if we need a drink. It was very nice to have her as server. During the desert, Hannah asked if it was a special occasion. It was and to our delight after few minutes she brought petit fours with ‘Happy Anniversary” note as surprise. Really nice touch.
After such experience we are certain we will be back and hope to have Sails experience again.

A.Sails is one of my all time favourite restaurants for fine dining - a lovely relaxed atmosphere, the menu is outstanding and the staff are professional and polished but down to earth - The restaurant staff went out of their way to accommodate my wishes (which unfortunately kept changing due to ever changing circumstances) but they were gracious. I cannot recommend Sails enough - outstanding view of the marina and harbour bridge - had a magical Christmas dinner with all our family AAAAA++++++

R.Amazing restaurant!! Some of the best views, food, service and ambience you will get in Auckland. It was a real treat! Only criticisms were the background music (80’s rock - didn’t suit as it’s an expensive classy restaurant) & the lady you meet at the front door could be more friendly and her clothing was shabby and not as high standard as the waitresses. The service of the waiters & waitresses was very high however. We will be back for sure!

From the time we were seated at a great window table with a fantastic view of the harbour to the serving of an absolutely delicious Six-course lunch, we enjoyed every moment of our time here while relishing every mouthful. With excellent table service and a pleasant interaction with the hands-on Owner, this became an afternoon that we will talk about for a long time, and we are looking forward to enjoying another meal here again, sooner than later.

Promp service giving us enough time to decide what to order.
This is not a family orientated restraunt more adult however this restraunt made us feel welcome with our 10 month old.

S.Family event that we wanted to be special. Service was timely, friendly professional and efficient. The staff were also non intrusive. None of that repetitive " is everything alright sir" stuff that annoys me.
Food was what we were hoping it would be. Every dish was well presented, and you knew it wasn't something you could knock up at home. We were all pleased with how our evening went, almost 3 hrs went by without us noticing. Expensive night but but we felt special and it was worth it.

D.Usually, you see a restaurant in a harbor and you prepare yourself for a mediocre meal with a great view. This is one of the rare gems that is delicious yet unpretentious, perfectly varied to meet your preferred tastes, and all around an excellent experience. It’s high-end food so expect high-end prices (though fairly reasonable), but definitely give this a try. Note: the picture I posted doesn’t do any justice to the view.
H.Visited twice. Both times got a bit of attitude from with the lady (? Owner ? Maitre d'?) at the front. Waiters were nice and polite however. Food was good - a bit dear for what you get. Have definitely had better and without the snobby reception.

B.Sails restaurant has very standard / traditional fare and maybe that is now their point of difference for the price you pay. However I believe for the clientele likely to go there, the fact you access the restaurant and bathrooms via some rather unsafe stairs is quite off putting for older people, the stairs are quite unsafe. I saw a number of older people needing assistance up and down the stairs. I think the location is fantastic, the venue itself is dated, the food is well cooked but a bit un-adventurous and the menu is over priced for what you are offered.

Ordinarily, I avoid taking my kids to semi-fancy dinner locations, but Sails is an ideal balance of formality and relaxed atmosphere. T.We went here for mother's day and it seemed a tad chaotic🙃 but that was at full capacity and I think it was just one of those days 😅. The food portions were a perfect size and were good, not amazing but good, sides were delicious...those thrice cooked potatoes....😋. For desserts, my pana cotta was runny, but the crispy feijoa slice blew my mind! All the dishes had some amazing elements that were delicious and beautifully thought out, though the whole dish itself left us slightly underwhelmed. I think we need to go back again on one of their good days. The favourites at the table were the lamb and the seafood bisque! Oh and definitely get the focaccia bread to start with 😍
O.Such an intricate and well thought out menu. The elements on every dish were outstanding and left us wanting more. Many of the dishes held at least one of my favourite ingredients that is often utilized poorly in restruants these days such as duck, miso, truffle etc. Your team and their tastes, along with talents in the kitchen are incredible!

B.Good food and atmosphere however we are in 2020... where is your wheelchair and pram access? Where is a highchair in your restaurant? Possibly not your target audience but these are absoloute musts!? Our waiter was pleasant however when asking the above questions, the rest of the staff had snarky comments which were not required.. Generally you would take the feedback on board.
A.We have eaten here many times and its always good and consistent. Tonight we did the degustation and it was fantastic. Delicious good textures well balanced and well presented. Service was attentive and professional. Was good value as well. In my opinion they have gone up a level and its great!

The service is very laid back, as usual on NZ, which you may like or not. I, personally, would have liked some more attention, the accompanying wines could have brought a little earlier.
If you have a table at the window you will have a wonderful view of the illuminated bridge.

Weve been dining at this iconic Auckland restuarant for over 35 years and its as wonderful as we remembered from the spacious and elegantly decorated front entrance and stairway to the high ceilinged restuarant with well spaced tables that make you feel like you are niether too close or too far from other diners
Our party of four ordered the six course set menu for a wonderful Sunday lunch.
The plated food was beautifully presented, innovative and delicious with an emphasis on seafood and served with seamless timing.
I particularly enjoyed the crunchy textures of the garnishings.
Sails have an excellent selection of wine and cocktails which were served with finesse.
The service was excellent as always.
I highly recommend Sails for a memorable dining experience .
P.Few weeks ago I attended an event here as a photographer. I was not visiting as a guest, Still the staff and the owner was so polite and nice to me. Very clean interior. Nice food. Big verity of vines and beverages. Highly recommended for family or corporate events. Fantastic view of a harbor bridge from restaurant.
N.The location of this restaurant is fantastic. Free parking outside which is a real plus in the in the city for lunch. The food was exquisite food and the wine selection was fantastic. The downfall was the staff. No one introduce themselves. The meal (lunch)orders were taken before the the drink orders. You could of excused them for this but there was only five other tables seated. If location great food and free parking is all you’re after this is the place. I have not been here for awhile and and although the staff were disappointing I will still go back again.

K.First time at this restaurant... First impression as soon as I stepped in...awesome views. First time my calamari entree came out, I thought was truly amazing...tasted it, absolutely loved it! The complimentary warm bread roll was crunchy outside, soft inside super yum. The mains was great, I had chicken breast with kale and charred onions. My first time but the restaurant has been here decades.
Had a mushroom risotto followed by snapper fish and chips. The Pegasus Bay Riesling that accompanied was a touch on the sweet side for me.
The food was excellent however, very tasty and appealing layout, not that you can do much for Risotto to flash it up! The taste and texture however lifted it from the mediocre looks.
Followed with the chocolate deconstruction and it was too good to share.

We ordered the 3 course set menu which had limited options compared to the main menu, but everyone was still able to find options they liked. The food was good, wait times okay, and the service was great. But... too expensive for me at $98 for one meal and 2 beers

On THE whole we left feeling that the occasion we were celerbrating was extremely important to us and all the staff gave us the sincerest sense that they genuinely cared and devoted to ensuring that our dining experience was was ganeented to be cherished as one of the most magical evening of first class service that created an air of romantic moments a pleasant experience we valued having our special evening treated as through it was equally as important to the invite staff that we were made to feel that our enjoyment mattered and were left more satisfied than we thought possible to acheive. Our expectations were exceeded ten fold.
Top marks to management and of course the whole kitchen , bar and restaurant floor staf, each of the seperate individual sections worked together as one very organized team with very high standards and a great day of true professionalism and commitment loyalty dedication and first class service to the establishment which all the staff appeared to have a deep desire to deliver their best with a real visible element of healthy pride for what they each contribute as a valued member of a well trained well organized extemly skilled and tallented team all working together with the same single aim in their heart's and minds. To produce a level of excellence worthy of being recognised as equal to any first class world renowned fine dining restaurant. . . It was a pleasure and a true joy seeing a whole team of people working togther happily supporting each other regardless of which department they represent. It was as if they saw the other departments of the restarunt as though they were all equal to each other all as important to making sure the ideal of working together creates unity and a unit or family who care and share the same aim working hard to ensure they succeed at archiving and maintaining the leve standard of excellent hospitality service. Resulting in the rewarding feeling that comes from satisfying the passion a person only truely has when that person is doing what they know is what their heart desires which is the only job that will ever bring real inner joy and result in that individual knowing fulfilment in the career they chose to persue.
We have wittnesed staff who work alright and manage to deliver what the roll the are responsible for it relied on to perform. But hardly ever does one get to see all the staff working together with the same passion of achieving the same purpose a harmonious functioning organized successful business that always produces the quilty experience that the owners of the company dreamt of creating. That special element that makes their establishment stand apart from other companies.
If management continue to employ workers who want to be part of a team with something truely special .then we believe that Sails will continue to have something that sets them in a class of thier own . Well done the restaurant manager. I take my hat off to being able to put a team of talented individuals together who work like true champions in their field. Honestly outstanding.
A.Lovely atmosphere and ambience. We were a group of 9 and most people enjoyed their meals, there was one of us who didn't enjoy the 'Beef Auckland' but the rest of the food was excellent. Staff were friendly and attentive. Views were amazing of the Auckland Harbour bridge. Would definitely come back.
P.Sails is a very nice place with an awesome view of Marina and the Harbor Bridge. The food was great all round. I finished my meal out with some of there little toasted donuts with ice cream and chocolate sauce, I highly recommend them. The only thing I would have to say that was "bad" is we felt a little rushed at times as we wanted to chill between courses.

J.Sails is one of my favourite restaurants in Auckland- when you are willing to splurge a little. The food is always consistently amazing and unless you visit frequently a little different each time. Can’t wait to come back again and enjoy the beautiful food and views. A must try is the Snapper ceviche, will always order this and have never been disappointed. scallops, ceviche for entree. Lamb and the scotch beef for main. And a wonderful surprise from our waiter for dessert.

We go yearly for the Crayfish deal, each year introducing friends to this amazing place and food. This year however you only received a glass of wine with your Crayfish/Meal. There was no tiny bread roll, shot of soup or shot of raw fish/starter, that was disappointing.
As I say the wait staff were amazing, however when we came to divvy the bill the lady at the till, had to get another man to show her and he had attitude and seemed really put out by us. "So you want to split the bill?" we just wanted each pay for what we ate, then we get "so you're not ACTUALLY splitting the bill then?" He let the whole team down. Cannot rave about the food and the wait staff enough though!! Awesome place.
A.Had an absolutely beautiful 6 course meal with matching wines here for our Wedding Anniversary. Service was very prompt and professional. Was a very memorable evening and I would highly recommend it.

F.I've had the pleasure of dining at Sails two times on my travels and both times were a culinary blissful experience. The harbor view, the attention to detail, and most importantly the seaford was prepared beyond my expectations.
We had a party of 20 and very one was happy with their meal.
D.The main course, pan fried snapper, gets 5 out of 5. Same for the side dishes. We had fries and cauliflower. The deserts not of the same standard. Sails interior is relatively conservative but you can't beat the location. Parking so easy - and free. Overall score is a 4.5. It is a good restaurant and often under rated.
K.It's always nice to go back there and explore the menu and if there is any changes, waiters are friendly, atmosphere is nice, nice ambiance, I always order spiced calamari (it's so fused up with different flavours 😈 yum), plus they have deals from time to time....

S.Food, location, and staff were all top notch. We were there in the winter after dark, but suspect the views in daylight would be spectacular. Food and wine selection was limited but well prepared and thought out. Not a place to save your coin, but worth the money.
A.Third AGM and dinner we have held there and as usual, outstanding food and good wine list. We stayed later than our booking and this was a slight issue for staff, but they helped by letting us in early to set up our meeting and seating plan, and we used their PA system which worked pretty well.

D.Yet another amazing lunch at Sails, I had the seared tuna as a starter and to be honest this was the best tuna I have ever had, perfectly cooked with edamame beans to compliment, Others had the whitebait fritter and crab both were also exceptional, for the mains the Crayfish went down a treat, great size and stunningly cooked, one of our party had the classic john dory which is one of Sails iconic meals and never disappoints, I opted for the roast chicken and that was incredibly tasty also, crispy skin, delicious mushrooms and home made gnocchi, To finish we shared a platter of treats which was perfect, I had a espresso martini while the others opted for coffee my martini was superb, The crew at Sails are amazing, They work hard to insure you meal is a treat, The chefs do a great job and the wine list is spot on. Well done guys we will be back soon.

P.We were booked for Xmas dinner 2016 (booked this night six months in advance for our family as we truly love going to Sails). Very disappointed in the Xmas meal and explained this to the waiter at the end of the meal who kindly passed on the information to the owner. The owner came to our table to explain that a new European chef had just started and was still being trained in the New Zealand "cuisine tastes". The Christmas dinner was a set menu - the appetizers were fresh oysters, smoked salmon and foccacia and oil. Two in our group don't eat oysters or salmon so unfortunately nothing there for them to enjoy apart from a piece of bread. The entrees we chose were prawn cocktails with black mayo. Unfortunately no description in the menu to say squid ink in the mayo. We should have asked but didn't so learned a valuable lesson. We scraped as much as possible of the squid ink off which overpowered the taste of the prawns. Mains were good (Auckland Beef - a take on Beef Wellington) and dessert was ok. One of us ordered cheese and crackers which arrived with huge blown up crackers almost covering the entire plate - the crackers shattered everywhere when he tried to break off a piece - he didn't bother with trying to eat the cheese as it wasn't easy with the crackers. We left feeling very disappointed as we have always enjoyed awesome meals at Sails in the past. We will go to Sails only when the menu is a la carte but not on Xmas day again. Thanks Sails for listening to our concerns on the day you were very gracious about the situation and made amends for which we were grateful for.

A.My first dining experience in Sails was the most memorable! My partner and I shared our dishes which were the: Appetizer: Venison tataki, 2 Mains: Crayfish & Beef tenderloin. (The meat was juicy, tender and so so so flavourful it was insane - absolutely loved the mains and the appetizers. Just when you thought it couldn't get any better, the desserts were just WOW. Had the creme brulee (which unfortunately they've stopped doing for awhile now) and it was so delicately made. I LOVE IT. Service was average for me though. We were waiting at the table for a good 5 minutes before menus were given to us and we waited a little while more before the waitresses who were in plain slight came to take our orders. No interaction or smiles from the waitresses at all. There was one particular waitress who had worked there the longest (apparently) who answered every question with a single word if she could. She wasn't technically rude but we were enjoying ourselves and she definitely brought down the experience. Funny thing is, my partner and I saw her smiling at some other customers as well. But not everyone had the friendly approach. Unfortunately for our night, we had Miss Grumps/"don't ask me anything"/"i hate you"/"stop talking to me" who were serving us. Thankfully the food was executed with such flavour and class in presentation. I LOVE THE FOOD, which compensated a lot. :)
The maitre de also didn't seem the least concern about how dinner was. But the food will keep me coming back for more. :)
The food was definitely 5 stars for me, especially for what I've ordered. :) So that 1 less star was because of service. Or more like the lack of it. :/
