Reviews of SONGKET MALAYSIAN CAFE

Ordered the chicken laksa, pattaya fried rice (fried rice with chicken and prawn wrapped in the egg omelette) from the menu log. Meal were well contained and wrapped. Chicken laksa is so creamy and pattaya is so delicious! They have good flavour, texture and reasonable price.
T.
It's a very Malaysian restaurant, runs by three young people. They must be very fond of their home dishes. Love the chicken on rice. But I have waited for more than 30 minutes for my dish to turn up. Reasonable price.
E.
Delicious Malaysian food at great prices. Good portion as well. The Wan Tan Hor was very good.
Wanted to try the Chendol but told wasn't available. Next time!
P.
This resturant has new Malaysian owners since earlier this year. While it could have a little more ambience it is plain but clean. The staff attend appropriately.
The food is ordinary according to the Malaysian menu but nothing especially noteworthy. It is basic, edible and tasty.
K.
Ordered the lamb shank, chicken laksa, spring rolls and warm pulled tea. The food came quickly and was delicious, full of flavour and so reasonably priced. The restaurant is casual and unassuming as you would expect for the price range, portions were large (the laksa was huge!). Would definitely recommend a visit for authentic Malay food 😊
j.
One of our fav places .. authentic Msian food 👍🏼👍🏼😋😋.
W.
Very good Kampung Fried Rice ( Nasi Goreng Kampung) and very good professional presentation ! Very large portion too ! I nearly can't finish it, coz too full. Good Teh Tarik! Have plenty of car parks. Good location, u can go shopping after a very full meal .

My first time, small but clean, friendly staff, the overall experience was ok, but the dishes differs from the original Malaysian food, the Chicken Satay and Kwayteow, Nasi Goreng, Nasi Lemak, Mee Goreng were all good, however the Bee Hoon, kampong fried rice, Sambal Chicken were not so Malaysian, I would visit again to try the soups and see if they have taken our feedback into consideration!
M.
The mamak mee goreng is one of the best around. Char kuey tiau and wat tan hor is average. Recommended for its dishes of Malay origin.
m.
As for great Malaysian this is fantastic food. 1st visit and already love it. Really great pineapple rice, satay had a nice little heat too it. Chicken Lusaka was really yum and huge serve size. Really clean and lovely setting.
J.
Very good service & friendly staff. they had waited patiently while i got late to there. But there's a hair inside the food. Ifzat and his team are nice and friendly aspecially Syafiqah. They had been very patient while I am busy. The food is very nice and tasty and good price compare with other Malaysian restaurant. Will highly recommend.
J.
Lovely Malaysian food. Had the noodle kway teow, with chicken and prawn which I would highly recommend. Quite busy at lunch so come early.
L.
Great place to have lunch or dinner. Tucked behind the Northcote Central shops is this hidden gem of a restaurant. Had the mee goreng mamak and poached chicken on rice (Hainanese chicken) and enjoyed both dishes. The hot kopi tarik is great for those who have a sweet tooth. Will definitely be coming back here as the ingredients are fresh, the dishes are hot and the price is affordable!
Y.
The food is excellant here and very delicious I treated my family to lunch out and we decided to try something new. We haven't ever tried Malaysian food but with this restaurant they provided us with a ln amazing lunch I wouldn't forget. So far 10/10 from me my whole family enjoyed it. They already wanna make plans for the next time we come back.
A.
Extraordinary. Meets an elite standard by which you judge all other restaurants. The staffs are always ready to help, especially Sya, the premises are clean and tidy, the atmosphere is lovely, and the food is both delicious and beautifully presented
j.
Just done first take away and shop suggested some spicy lamb shank which is too spicy hot 🔥🔥🔥.
T.
Best malaysian food in auckland ive had. Seems fairly true to the food in singapore/malaysia. Delicious, good portioned and not hugely expensive.
J.
Very friendly service here. I would've given 4 stars but they forgot one of our dishes (total of 4). The nasi goreng kampang was very good.
V.
One of the best authentic Malaysian food on the Shore and awesome friendly staff.
B.
Amazing food and great atmosphere. The recent redesign is gorgeous. I hear the owner even custom made the beautiful feature sign mounted inside.
M.
Exceptional place for halal food, try it.
D.
Had high hopes as my wife seems some good things but i was not impressed.
The food was average. We got the lamb roti curry and fish head noodle soup. Lamb was hard and stiff and curry was not that flavorsome. The dahl was.good tho. The roti was homemade but looked pre prepped so was a bit hard.
The noodle soup flavor was average and the fish was very tough for fish.
The place was neat and tidy, and friendly service.
Will give it another go and try the char kiew tuey (haha always forget how to spell that) and some other dishes.
J.
We went there for dinner and tried the cereal tiger prawns dish. It was cooked with curry leaves, very nice aroma and tasted delicious just like how my hubby cooked this nestum prawn dish. Also enjoyed the vegetable dish cooked with black woodend fungus.
Our favourite place to enjoy steamed chicken rice, mamak mee goreng, nasi lemak, teh tarik, kopi tarik and sago pudding. The beef rendang is a must try dish. Our grandchildren love the chicken satay, nasi kampung goreng and wan tan hor. Clean and family friendly place to enjoy tasty and yummy halal food at reasonable prices.

Delicious and authentic malaysian cuisine.same menu and taste even under new management.
A.
Delicious and affordable Malaysian cuisine. I will definitely come back.
E.
Been here twice now, my family and I really enjoy the food. My in-laws are Malaysian and they all say Songket has the best Malaysian food of all restaurants in Auckland. Highly recommend.
G.
Enjoyed their roti canai and chicken curry
T.
You will find most Malaysian dishes here ranging from rice and noodles, Malay to Chinese and savory to spicy. Nothing spectacular but good enough to introduce or remind you of the Malaysian cuisine. Place is medium sized but toilets are upstairs.
S.
Well you certainly get fed well here - big portions, good value for money. Delicious Teh Tarik. I'm not usually a spring roll person but Songket has the best I've ever eaten, the filling is amazing. Had the nasi lemak with super tasty chicken leg - yes a whole leg - and generous with the ikan bilis and peanuts. Hubby loved his laksa and char kway teow - plenty of wok hei in the dish to make him happy. Left with super full bellies.

Being a traveller and food vlogger...N a very harsh critic of msian food simply cuz I am msian born n just came back from 3 months in Malaysia.. I am pretty impressed with Songket. It is my first time but I will come back to try more. I had the nasi lemak.. I would give it 3.5 to 4 stars. .It was simple and nice.. N they gave extra sambal. The rice could be more flavourful...nevertheless for Nzd 9. Quite good..
A.
Tried the Praprik chicken rice. Tasted like a more spicy version of sweet and sour. It was good, but the ratio of rice to Praprik chicken not quite right. Needed more chicken.
M.
Delicious Malaysian food. Very authentic (according to a Malaysian friend who took us there for lunch).
A.
Awesome. Fresh authentic flavours.
J.
I’ve probably tried all the nasi lemaks in Auckland and I must say that this is by far the closest to authentic Malaysian nasi lemak. Other dishes are authentic and tasty as well.
F.

Such good food. Reasonable prices. Great service. It's not the Ritz but it's ok!
I.
Great food here at very reasonable price. The owner/lady is very friendly. They are accommodating towards vegetarians. Even have vegetarian sauces/gravy
T.
The Nasi Berani is Awesome. A bit disappointed with the fish head noodles as it is just the fish fillet. Anyway it taste good.
N.
Nice decor, great food, good prices. Would highly recommend.
J.
Second time I’ve eaten here and will be back again. Both meals have been really tasty, good size and super cheap too!
E.
