Reviews of SUMOCHOW
I.Very new takeaway that has opened this week in Manurewa. Menu is limited, mainly chicken, chips and dumplings. We ordered a variety to try out, including their Sumo Wings in Korean gochujang sauce (chips included), pork shumai and beef taco dumplings. We upgraded our chips to large, but wished that the portion size was bigger for a large. It's definitely smaller than your typical takeaway large chips, but it tasted much better as the chips were well seasoned, fluffy on the inside but crispy on the outside. The best part is there was no greasy aftertaste typically found with other takeaways. Both pork shumai and beef taco dumplings were good, but we definitely preferred the shumai - will definitely need to try the chicken gyoza next time. Chicken nibbles were tender but not spicy enough for our liking. We will try the crispy chicken next time which seems to be what most other customers were ordering. Very friendly staff and so nice to see people working hard at their business despite the current circumstances.
x.Besides the overwhelming cost for the foods I purchased the food is worth its amount. My highlight of this quirky little takeaways was the chicken burger. The large size chicken breast with fresh vegetables complimented every aspect of this burger. Tasty and fulfilling. If I were to add a suggestion maybe a tad more sauce? but nonetheless was good. Now onto why this could've been a 5 star review but instead is a underwhelming 3 star. Firstly my chips were cold, slightly damp with absolutely no seasoning. In comparison it was like reheating a day old chips in a microwave, disappointed. Secondly, I ordered the pan fried dumplings and pork shumai, taste was fine but... YOU forgot my dipping sauce. As dramatic as it sounds the sauce is the most essential part of these of foods. Overall I guess I'm somewhat satisfied. If you are questioning my credibility there were 2 workers who served me, male and female between the age of 18-23. Ordered on the 26/11.
A.Tried out all the dumplings and the chicken wings. Overall very good food the beef dumpling was interesting and chicken was good but the stand out for me was definitely the shumai. I got the cheesy wings, it was light, juicy and soft. I would definitely come back and will try other things in the menu 😁
N.Filipino/Japanese fusion place. The fried chicken is definitely Filipino (that means YUM) Have been here twice now and will be going there a lot. So we've had the spicy wings, cheesey wings, all 3 dumplings and fried chicken. Definitely ordering them again and most definitely going to try out the whole menu. 👌
E.Amazing dumplings!! All three were juicy, tender and full of filling. Definitely different from the others. Their chicken thigh were massive and very crunchy yumm will be coming back for more
M.**New to Manurewa and finally open** This business was impacted by Covid, planned to open a while ago but then lockdown happened.
So to celebrate the opening we had a dumpling night. We tried them all and they were all great. I have to be honest, we were sceptical about the beef dumplings but they were surprisingly good. If you’ve ever had a chimichanga, they’re like little mini chimichanga’s 🤤
In our fam, favourite dumpling of the 3 were, 2 votes for pork shumai, 1 vote for chicken and 1 vote for the beef.
So glad we finally have a local place that makes dumplings (and mini chimichanga’s!)
S.I had breakfast there this morning and dinner tonight. All were well beyond my expectations. Everything is so fresh.The food is excellent, generous portions and great prices. The service was fast and friendly. And also the staff is so nice to everyone. I highly recommend buying food from here.
y.Ordered the 10pc shumai, they were delicious. The chilli oil was the stand out for me, which had a nice kick to it. On the negative side, the portion sizes were too small for my liking for what you pay. Was still feeling hungry afterwards, hence the 4 stars. However, I would come back.
M.Tried the Sumo Chicken Fillet Burger will be honest😌😌chicken was stringy n found it hard to bite n chew without it falling apart but the dumplings were good..
