Reviews of The Claddagh Irish Pub
L.
Great little Irish Pub tucked away down a side alley in Newmarket. It was the perfect stop for a restful lunch and drink after shopping up a storm at the Newmarket mall. Great, friendly service. Meals were fantastic and reasonably priced. We enjoyed steak and the special of the day Beef Thai Salad. Will definitely stop in again!
G.
Beautiful old fashioned Irish pub nestled in an alley basically. Even better for a few tables outback with big brollies to get shade, but inside has that rustic pub feel with comfy chairs to seats at the bar. Food was delicious too from clam chowder to meats.
P.
Tucked away, this pub has a real neighbourhood feel. We had a group gathering in the back room with a couple of pool tables that the regulars happily continued to use despite a booking on the door. And why not? That was fine, although it was a bit tight with pool cues coming out for tricky shots and people having to move out of the way. Happy hour was very welcome.
g.
Very Cold when I was there bring a coat! cockroach seen in girls toilets. Size of a size 5uk shoe. Guinness was nice enough though, very hard to find okay Guinness in auckland. Not owned by irish as far as we could tell.
J.
Super friendly staff, quite hard to miss if you don't know where you're going - look for the Guinness sign on the rooftops! Great courtyard area with large tables and plenty of tables indoors
L.
Cracking Guinness, smashing spicy chicken and very hospitable. Stayed open for our Scottish cup final and was much appreciated. Good spot
P.
Awesome atmosphere and Wednesday quiz night. Under new management June 2019, AMAZING.
W.
Great relaxed atmosphere. Authentic decor and a lively outdoor area. Good selection of beers on tap and staff are efficient, and pleasant. This may just have to become my "local' when I'm in town. Keep it up guys !
S.
First time back in years..Quizz night and the pub was chokka.. great vibe and a glass or 2 of Guinness..bliss...we didn't win...shame!
D.
Great little Irish pub, had the rugby on the big screen,
Not too packed, so we actually got a table to sit at.
Great staff, remembered what you were drinking so an order could be done with sign language over the bar for less interruption of the game!
Then the 2 man band kicked off and played just the best kiwi classics. Great pub, great night.
C.
Came in for the Sunday roast recently and it was simply the best I’ve had in a very long time. back in for a few beers, as ya do, Kilkenny is beautiful, Guinness is second best in Auckland and the food during the week is fabulous. Staff are extremely friendly. Lovely spot.
w.
Whilst visiting Auckland we decided to lunch at this pub. The reviews were very good and we were not disappointed with the food, ambience and friendliness. The owner was absolutely accommodating as my wife had a number of allergies to various foods. The fish was cooked to perfection and the steak was great. I would recommend it to everyone.
D.
Nice staff, lovely food. I had the spicy sausage pizza and often think about going back for round 2
L.
Tucked away down a side street in Newmarket, this is definitely a pub only for people who have heard about it by word of mouth.
It feels very much like a traditional Irish pub, so no silly leprechaun-inspired decor. Rather, a range of Irish beers and a pleasant place to spend some time with friends.
S.
Watched the UFC here great little gem. Food was delicious nice friendly staff will be back definitely
C.
Great little Irish pub..2 x pool tables..2 x dart boards..quiz nights..live music..great craft beer.
G.
So, you're in Newmarket, and well, I don't feel very "Newmarket" but you wanna drink. There's a few options. Lots of people are pretentious and like spending money on discussion artisanal beers. I don't. I like a bar. I hate pretension. There is no pretentious rubbish here. The charm here is real.
B.
Great place. Super chilled with a real pub feel to it. Great for anything from beer, wine, food, fun and much more. Awesome staff, very friendly.
J.
This place is brilliant. How many pubs do you go to where the owner will give you a lift home? The foreign staff and owner I see other people needlessly whinging about are top notch people who have even opened up early so my friend and I can watch the rugby.
J.
Great place to go if you like a nice cold Kilkenny or Guinness. Otherwise. ..
K.
Fantastic vibe with great live music on a Friday night. Food is ok but the drinks and atmosphere are way better. Staff are super friendly too and were very accommodating to our large group!
S.
Had the steak and Guinness pie today and was life changing! This pub has great food. Quite dark inside but a nice hideaway from the hustle and bustle of Newmarket!
J.
Nice Pub, had a few beers and a couple of meals here during 2017 Lions tour. Great staff with friendly welcome although one member of staff with bad attitude on one occasion spoilt the atmosphere a bit but we had just drawn the series so we'll let him off !! Still deserves 5 stars.
M.
Awesome place! We spent new years eve there. Great atmosphere, super friendly staff, awesome beer! Would come again anytime.
B.
They brew their own beer on premise. The playlist is superb. Good place to catch up with friends.
D.
Great staff, great atmosphere and really reasonably priced and good outdoor area. Definitely worth a visit to find this hidden gem if your in Newmarket.
D.
Good Irish pub, a local watering hole after work.
They also do whisky tastings and the chef specifically designs a menu to match the scotch for tasting. Good night and good yarns
K.
Great atmosphere for a relaxing pint after work. The staff were awesome, and you can even unwind with a game of pool or darts. Top notch... thanks guys.
N.
Good quiz night and variety if beers including Nz craft and Irish.
B.
The pub defines the word pub. Dark, low roof, scummy bathrooms, and more character than any establishment in Newmarket. If you want a great vibe, friendly, communal Atmos this is your local. Also you go on the board if you can sink 100 Guinness in a year.
N.
The best, most unpretentious bar in the area. Everywhere else goes the gastropub route or is full of yuppys
D.
Very homely lovely staff. Not tried the food yet, but must try the chips and curry sauce. Will let you know.
m.
Had our staff Christmas party here and this place ticks all the boxes. Great pub food. Real pub atmosphere , great selection of beers.
M.
Fun atmosphere with great wings and food. There was free darts. My friends say the drinks were good and reasonably priced.
C.

S.
Enjoyed a lunchtime Guiness and a good feed here on a few occasions. Manager brews his own craft beer too which always goes down well.
A.
This place is very different from before. I would miss the bands so that would limit my visits later. Food was average. Nice to have craft beer, but missed my cider.
A.
One of the best Irish bar in town. Great staff and ambiance. Will definitely come back for sure.
I.

J.
It's bloody good. Good place to wind down with a cold beer after work. Friendly staff.
G.
The best kind of Irish pub (smells like beer and church). Great staff and garden.
D.
As about as Irish as I am, but a really nice pub. Good place for a quite one, or a meal and a glass.
J.
The Guinness is good, there's a little outside space for a good day and the interior is as wooden and cosy as you might expect.
v.
Friendly and approachable attitude for customer service.
i.
Pretty typical Irish bar but since it's been around for such a long time has a good feel about it, a st patricks day must
C.
Great little local, sometimes a bit quiet but that can be just what you want with a cold beer!
T.
Great little location hidden down an alley way. Bar tenders were more than happy to serve a big group.
L.
Classic and great traditional Irish pub, very friendly and wholesome staff.
D.
Great food, great atmosphere, great staff.
The Claddagh is a Newmarket icon and the longest running pub in Newmarket.
M.
They offer to try the beer first, nice!! A beer menu and a proper wheat beer would be my recommendation
