Reviews of The Crab Shack
H.
Smooth experience, though got all our dishes served all at once. Small dishes do not equal entreé. No issues with wait times as others are reporting.
H.
Service and food were both excellent. First visit to the city post-lockdown and it did not disappoint. From the friendly phone call confirming the booking, to the all-round cheery service at the restaurant, it was a great experience. Family friendly (we took a 6 year old and a baby), and the range of food on offer was excellent. We’ll definitely be back.
D.
Tuesday night at the viaduct. Found this lovely spot. Plenty outdoor seating. Sea views. Staff friendly and helpful...explained the ordering system under covid rules Online or "wave" for the waiter...we chose the waiter. Felt safe watched as guests left table and chairs wiped down. Thanks.
Shared the sqid, crab and cauliflower salad. All tasty. All up $80 with alcohol and coffees for 2 people .
W.
Had the best lunch here in recent months. Excellent snow crab, fresh and meaty. Even food from kids menu are awesome. Attended services and staff were very friendly.
J.
Honestly the best burger I have eaten in all my life! I personally make burgers and was very hesitant to try a burger in a seafood bar, but it left me speechless! Unreal flavour! The bar staff was also super accommodating. Great venue on the harbour! Will deffinetly return
A.
Myself and a large group of friends came to the Crab Shack for drinks this weekend. The prices were exceptional and overall it was a very pleasant experience. We found it a little difficult to find the place, and the chips arrived without sauce, but this is of course, very minor.
B.
Really delicious food and service. Great price for the fresh seafood you get
A.
We came here on Saturday night with our friends for happy hour before a comedy show, we were served by a fantastic british man, i think his name was Reece??? I hope i'm right! But he was fantastic and so prompt and friendly! Everything at the crab shack was so efficient! we are already planning our next trip back :)
C.
$2 Oysters and $2 Wings!!!!
Oysters were delicious and wings were nice maybe just a little spicy and would've been nice with like a yoghurt sauce or something cold to help cool ya mouth after eating. We also didn't realise how huge the wings were and ordered $40 worth and probably wouldn't order as much next time.
The soft shell crab was the least favourite dish we ordered. Menu said the crab came in a tempura batter but the batter was quite heavy and the crab kind of disintegrated through the batter which was also really oily. Got sickening eating it. The sauce that we chose with it was really nice however. Mud crab was ok...yum with the sauce we paired it with. Squid Rings were average, what you'd expect. Favourite dishes were the Skillet Mac n Cheese and the Classic Crayfish and Prawn Roll. Great service and atmosphere with $5 beers for happy hour. Would come back again.
A.
A well deocrated family friendly restaurant. The staff were friendly. Price is reasonable. The clams is still one of my favourites. The seafood chowder is very creamy with lots of seafood and vegetables. Their kids meals are also surprisingly very nice, we had the burger with steamed veggies (i don't usually expect the kids meal to be as good value for money).
O.
Nice service but the food is not worth the money, I don’t like to put fish and chips in a plastic tray
D.
I love the food!! We ordered crabs of the day which was Australian blue swimmers and was cooked really good in garlic sauce. 👌🏻👌🏻 One order of it was shared by me and my partner and was more than enough for us. We also had one of the best chips. The shrimp cocktail was also great for starters.
The place was also a nice spot with a sea view and clean toilet. Staff was excellent in taking orders and were very accommodating 😊
A.
Wonderful place! The drinks here are amazing. The seafood, chicken and beef here had left a glorious taste in my mouth, just a beautiful place when having my average 6 pm dinner.
R.
Had a great evening and dinner! Happy hour value is amazing and the staff were all awesome. I just want to acknowledge the staff member who came to check on us after noticing the discomfort we felt from another group there who seemed to take issues with my wife breastfeeding (everything under a blanket so nothing could be seen) by staring at us the whole time and then taking a photo of us on their departure. He gave us reassurance that we were not being improper and it saved our night, so thank you again!
J.
If you want to get your hands dirty and enjoy crabs with seafood pliers and picks, there really is only one place in Auckland. We came here after it’s move into the previous Culpeper location, and it’s a smaller venue but feels more cosy. The chowder was nice and chunky. The snow crab has a good amount of meat to dig into and more delicate in flavour but the mud crab was full of meat albeit a more tougher and mild in flavour. We found the garlic butter more moorish but a bit overwhelming after a while. But the white wine garlic sauce to be great all the way through.
M.
Great decor. Mussels was top notch. Fish n chup (as per menu) was pretty good as well. Chicken taco was tasty. Chicken burger was great but sadly the soft crab was over salty. Waitress provided a good service and food arrived quite quick.
A.
Went here for Valentine's Day. Ordered chowder, cheesey garlic bread, squid rings, 6 wings, two steak meals with extra fries. Food came out fairly quickly. Almost too fast. Hadn't finished chowder before steak came out. Steak was cooked to perfection. Over all the food was great. Watch out for the chicken wings, they're bigger than you think 😁. We ended up taking the wings back home with us. Only issue I had was with the ordering system. If I'm going to pay that much then I would prefer table service but that's a personal preference.
P.
Great happy hour deals daily.
The vibe is good. Near the water/ wharf. I came for the oysters. Waiting time before someone came to take our order was appalling. Not good. We were about to leave.
A.
Had high hopes for this place as it was recommended by a local but was disappointed in the end. My soft shell crab was a blob of battered oily goo on top of a stale bun that I couldn't finish (though the coleslaw was good). The calamari was nice but was served a little cold and the chicken wings were OK but the blue cheese sauce was quite strong and overpowering. Might give them another chance on my next trip but would recommend other places nearby at this stage.
J.
Always friendly staff. We've had issues with their QRCode ordering thingy but staff easily resolved and apologised. Just a nice atmosphere with reasonable prices and a good view of the hauraki gulf.
M.
We stopped in here for dinner on our first night in Auckland and were sure glad we did. The service was fantastic, especially our waitress (I think her name was Mel) who was warm, friendly and very attentive. The food and drinks were excellent as well, in particular the Black Magic Woman cocktail and the mixed mussels/clam 1kg scoop with white wine sauce. The servings are generously sized and after a starter, main & side each we had no room for dessert.
W.
Lovely atmosphere. Awesome drink specials and a range of seafood at affordable prices. A must for large groups.
F.
Luv it! I was there almost 6 years ago. And recently, I’ve visited again! It’s mouthwatering and has been waiting long time for The Crab Shack
S.
This is a lively, music filled restaurant with lots of activity and high energy. The food was really good, service was attentive and the location on the wharf is perfect to watch the busy Harbor and cruise ships at dock. The bar offerings were extensive and reasonably priced. They are complete with lunch specials, happy hour and daily chef specials too.
J.
Was well worth the trip into Auckland, this place is a bit of a seafood mecca and not anything less that would expect in the big smoke. Lovely flavored dishes, and great service. Was there on a Sunday so not sure about other days when it might be flat tack there. But our visit was awesome. Definitely get the crab medley, that was lovely, the mussels were a hit, and the place is kid friendly and the staff were awesome with ours even bringing coloring things to the table.
Food amazing, and the kids mac n cheese was simply delicious I ended up finishing it myself!
Service awesome great staff they did the place proud.
Parking, well it's Auckland so don't expect parking around the place to be any good, best to go to one of the paid for carparks and walk in probably.
Easy access at the front.
Lovely atmosphere, definitely put it on your kai munching bucket list in the city.
Cheers, will definitely come again!
R.
Great food, service and atmosphere. Very friendly and helpful staff. Highly recommended.
Y.
Nice place, nice food and friendly service. I had the tempura soft shell crab, seafood marinara and a cocktail of the month. Unlike an earlier review, the soft shell crab was crispy and tasty. The staff was very attentive, even offered to help me take a photo.
C.
Nice casual setting by the waterfront, friendly staff and food was served very timely. For four people we got 3 buckets and two sides to share - not quite enough as the buckets were a little small, but it was tasty
F.
We went to eat after a long wet day of touring around. The staff was friendly and helpful. We were a large group with different dietary restrictions and they went to above and beyond to ensure that everyone was taken care of. Alex was delightful and never missed a beat. The food was delicious! The Fush and Chups were the best we have had in New Zealand. The Blue Crab was very soft, which they explained, but it was not quite what we thought. The sea food chowder was amazing. We ordered the 2 oysters, they were tasty but a little small. Overall the meal, experience, and atmosphere were at the top of our adventures so far.
J.
Happy hour is great, views of the harbour and maritime museum boats, good outdoor seating area, helpful staff
J.
Food was very fresh and reasonable. It's like seafood bar food and then also nice and proper seafood such as crab and fish at set prices and also market prices. I enjoyed two appetizers, the raw fish and calamari rings. They also have a good list of local wines.
S.
Amazing service, and even better food! Reece is amazing, super friendly and knowledgeable by far the best go to in Auckland, will return when back in auckland! 5 stars
T.
One of the best chicken burgers I've ever had. Staff were super friendly too.
T.
Be prepared to get messy when it takes a good 2-3 hours to devour this wonderful seafood! I have been there plenty of times and have ordered crabs from the pot. The crab of the day is the easiest one to eat.🦀🦀🦀🦀 It's garlic chilli butter and parsley combination is so good that you would crave for using the sauce as a dip for a whole loaf of bread. 🍞🍞And, their Australian Spanner Crab is huge! It is extremely meaty and flaky. It needs a bit of work whilst eating as it is time consuming to eat this guy. It has bone segments in the entire crab which makes the job tougher. Their cocktails are a must to have. Do give it a try.🍹🍸They have some very good looking attendants who are just as good with their wonderful customer service. Please find a good amount of pics attached of their dishes below.
T.
1st time eating a whole crab, hard work & messy but ok if not a little soft. Place itself was ok good location on the pier, staff friendly & 1 of the staff put my protective bib on for me. Pricey for alcohol but it is in the city.
M.
Coming from Singapore , where Chilli crabs is the national dish. The Crabs @The crab shack are excellent. We had the Daily catch Crab cooked in garlic n chilli from Australia. Wonderful.
Also try the clams w white wine n garlic.
The lamb was soft and tender.
Service was excellent. Free popcorn, and play an old school arcade pacman while you wait for your food !
T.
It was a nice night in the city and dining outside. For the price we paid, it would have been nice to have table service. This was our first time at Crab Shack so it would've been nice to have explained to us that we had to go up to the cashier when we were ready to order drinks and food. The food was nice. Only negative would be the tuna poke. It was more of salad with pieces of tuna in it. The workers were very nice.
A.
The fritters were pretty good, love the sauce on top. The texture was just alright. Got their marinara pasta as take away and was pretty underwhelmed with taste. The entire dish had lots of shards and was pretty grainy even for a seafood dish.
D.
Good place to have seafood. Clams were fresh and tasty. Steak was cooked right. Plenty of seats. Good selection of beer on tap. Even had TV for us to watch Saturday night rugby. Table host was friendly, but waitress did not look too happy, otherwise would have given a five star.
B.
Pure goodness.Perfect meal for the family. Its all worth it.
S.
Great food and great service. The green mussles We're especially good and they were even the daily special so we got an amazing deal on them. This is a really good spot to visit if you are hungry aftee just getting off the nearby ferry.
R.
We had a great time sitting and eating here! The burger was a little bit too done but still very tasty. Our waiter was amazing and really nice, we didn't feel any pressure leaving when we finished the food, and we liked being able to take our time drinking and talking with the great atmosphere of the place!
C.
Had the Seafood Boilup yesterday we were very happy with the service and found price reasonable.
G.
Amazing service and happy hour drinkies... a great way to catch up with friends and family over seafood and drinks by the viaduct... love the views too... THANK YOU CRAB SHACK STAFF AMAZING SERVICE AND GREAT EXPERIENCE 👍 👏 😀 🙌
J.
Was hankering for crab. Not disappointed. Friendly helpful staff. Happy hour a bonus. Well worth a visit
J.
Delicious food. Amazing staff , very helpful. Delicious variety of alcoholic beverages to accompany the beautiful view we had
B.

Really good place to have a dinner, food are fresh and tasteful. Service are good, like the atmosphere. definitely will come back again

Today was Green Lip Mussels at half price. Great view of the Auckland ferry terminal
V.
Food was great .. our first time at crab shack . Awesome steak and of course the crab too. Service was fast and friendly.
R.
👍👍👍 great place to eat, nice service.
Y.
Lovely service.
Really keep on eye on how the food and drinks are going.
Good job to Emma and Liam for keeping a eye.
R.
Great place for weekend dining n chilling. Food were pretty good. Love the vibe by the pier.
a.
Lovely food and great service and view is very nice
J.
Great friendly service. Seafood chowder and fish burger was alright... The crab of the day was real good tho. Dope aesthetic
p.
Great lively atmosphere. And if you are lucky to get a seat by the bar or the window , you get an awesome water view as well.
The crab pots are a must try. They are one of the freshest & yummiest crabs you'll taste. It is a bit pricey but worth it.
They have a good collection of cocktails as well.
A.
We had lunch here by the harbour and it was great. The food was filling, hot and the service from the staff went over and above thanks. Bartenders were awesome, and we all loved it, highly recommended and will definitely be visiting again.
C.
We went here for their Thanksgiving menu and we were quite surprised about the portions! The food was good and I highly recommend this cider brand: it‘s very fruity and is not too sweet. Ideal for a summer drink 🍺
A.
Nice place if you’re looking for some good sea food and drinks on a cold night. A bit pricy but we enjoyed it. I definitely recommend trying their famous seafood soup (can’t remember the name) but order a large bowl and trust me it’s the best thing you’ll ever have in Auckland!!
p.
Lovely and bustling place for fresh affordable seafood meals. Family friendly and great variety of kids options. Assorted clams were great.
Y.
Exquisite food, great atmosphere fresh and well priced. Such a delightful place to go for a lunch ✌️
J.
Great soft shell crab.
Happy hour from 4 to 7pm with amazing discounts.
M.
We had the crab of the day and it was delicious! Definitely worth the work ;)
Service was good, so were the cocktails and the location. A little pricey but worth it for the experience.
N.
The Crab Shack is a coastal themed casual dining and drinking experience. Whilst we cater for all tastes, we specialise in seafood with a special emphasis on crab yet including other fabulous meals. "By the Scoop", "From the Earth" "From the Charcoal Barrel" are all included on our menu.
The Crab Shack provides fun, smiles and frivolity in a casual yet entertaining waterfront environment. Affordable is an understatement, check out our daily deals today!

The environment is nice, service is not splendid - as the wait staff forgot my order of a beer, but, the real problem was the garlic bread. The loaf was so hard we couldn't even cut it (although it came already in big slices).
N.
Service good, price reasonable. I had coffee, chicken wings (good portion size)&500g scoop of mixed clams and mussels in Thai curry sauce. There's no picture of the second because I finished it before I thought to take a picture. I enjoyed it and am quite full.
J.
Had a wonderful time with seafood chowder, steak and mojito. Very friendly and supportive staff.
A.
Really good seafood and wide selection of local NZ wines. Gem fish for fish & chips was melt in your mouth good.
G.
Always a pleasure. Wondered if the atmosphere would have changed since the move to the new digs. It's just as good.
W.
Expected better crab and clams. Food was meh, but our waitress really tried to make it better. Atmosphere was nice especially on the water edge. Sorry didnt capture pics of the food. Next time.
N.
The waitress was amazing! However the starter was unfortunately the best part of the meal. The food was quite average for something that could be amazing with how fresh ingredients could be. Wouldn't return again unless only to have drinks.
D.
Enjoyed a long lunch in a Sunday. Food was great and the staff were awesome. On to it.
Will be back.
K.
The price is slightly high, but one should expect that since it's in a proper tourist area. But the food tastes awesome, the ambience is great and the staff are super friendly
J.
Great and friendly service. but the food is just okay 👌, I enjoyed it and a good thing that Daily fresh catch is in the menu!
A.
Relatively good value for tasty seafood. Fresh ingredients. Friendly service in nice settings.
M.
Good food. Great staff. Manager was one of the best we have come across. Everyone was accommodating above and beyond expectations.
Blue crab was kind of a disappointment, but the "Fush n Chups" was great. So good in fact, I ordered more. Highly recommend the dish.
D.
Friendly service, well shaded seats, and a great selection of dishes and drinks
K.
Awesome service, crab wasn't very fresh tasted like it had been cooked from frozen
J.
Great atmosphere and delicious cocktails! Have been there before and the food was tasty
A.
The seafood pasta dish was excellent but could have used more of the homemade pasta to soak up the extra sauce. Which I don't think is an unreasonable request as the pasta was the most inexpensive ingredient.
R.
Nice place, a little expensive but the service was good and professional, food was good, only tried bottled lager so can't really comment on the drinks so much. Very large and noisy but that was part of the atmosphere. For me it felt a little chain like and didn't have that personal touch but you can't really go wrong visiting here if you can afford it and don't expect too much.
D.
Food was amazing. The chowder was exquisite. Service was good. Place clean and comfortable.
H.
Excellent lunch under good atmosphere by the pier. Nice fish and chips and crab salad 🥂
B.
Another great food experience. Staff were up front about availability of some items. Food was delivered quickly, and everyone was happy with the meal.
They have that order and pay online at your table, which is fine for a couple, but a pain for a large group.
F.
Interesting decor. Mussels were delicious. Good selection of drinks. This place was recommended by our hotel and it did not disappoint.
M.
Love it here. Great service and food, staff are helpful and knowledgeable. Soft shell crab and crowded are delicious and the daveys mess dessert is to die for.
L.
All though it was cloudy and raining, I certainly was pleased with the oysters which are now $3, the mussel pot and seafood chowder.
Crayfish/prawns with breadroll was average - it was covered in sauce and just tasted like something I could make at home and the mud crab that was $60 wasn’t very great as it was bland, tough, meat was hard to get out even with the pliers & ended up wasting as well which was unfortunate as it was too difficult to get out and felt like we were there all day/night but we know not to get it next time.
Service was good, and yeah, next time we’ll go for the other things we enjoyed I guess..
C.
Food was good apart from the world's blandest crabby Cobb salad and smallest lemon tart. To be fair the waiter did remove the lemon tart from the menu.
R.
The crabs here were amazing, exquisite flavours! The highlight tho was how soft the crab shells were, made it super easy to get all the flesh! You could pretty much eat the shells! Good service as well!
D.
Lovely seafood boil!Great vibe and views.lovely staff too
V.
First time I ever ate "fush and chups" and they were so incredibly good! Loved the glass ceiling, too!!
C.
Amazing food, prof staff and really good location. Good happy hour deals
A.
The mussels we had in white wine sauce were excellent but I forgot to take a picture. This is the fish of the day and it was very good.
V.
Casual dining at the wharf harbour. Seafood is really tasty. The restaurant is generous in giving alot of seafood.
J.
Great value beer jugs with a nice view! 3 hour happy hours!!!
J.
Been here a few times now. I love the crab and chicken dishes. Soft shell, king crab, mud crab, chicken wings. Even the chicken salad. I always order a few aku-akus... great with the oysters! I'm getting dizzy just remembering the food. Only thing I would ask is to lower the music volume a bit--I mean it's fine after a couple drinks, but yeah. I would return to this place for as long as I could afford it.
C.
Yummy food! Great service, bar the broken till 😆 highly recommend 👌🏽
D.
Three years to the day, new location and the seafood chowder still awesome🍻👍😎
T.
Nice location l, waterfront. Can get a bit too windy if sitting outside the kitchen area. Food was not as good as they look (present), average.
D.
Amazing food, yes its order at counter, and it can be hard to locate staff, but when they're avaliable they're great, and there's also the option to order online through a qr code, quick service and honestly the best meals. A bit pricey, but justified given location, and quality of the food.
H.
Fantastic place. Great service as we entered by Reece. Then our very friendly waiter Alex, told us the tips and tricks for cracking and opening the crab shells. Great food. Awesome happy hour prices. Highly recommended. Thank you.
T.
The crabs and mixed clams are delicious! It's worth the money as it's not very expensive. The ambience is also very good for catch up and gathering with friends.
P.
Amazing service tonight at Crabshack in Auckland. We had an elderly lady 88, who really wanted to try crab. We went with her husband 92, my husband and our two children. The staff were fantastic even reserving us a table and helping us settle our older friends in. We loved the food but the stand out for us was the incredible friendly service we got. Thank you so much for helping our older friend get her wish to eat crab! Might seem a small thing to some but when you are 88 it can also be quite an achievement. 😊
K.
Service was great, reasonable cocktails & Food was ok. Good for a drink and a casual bite with views of the harbour.
L.
YUM! Especially the boil up days they run - these are the best.
b.
Recently bought the family here for a meal. Love the new location on the sunny side of Princes Wharf.
Attentive, switched on staff, real music, lovely food, and even a classic Pac Man machine for the kids to figure out.
Highly recommended.
T.
Great food and customer service as soon as you step foot in the door !!
L.
Shellfish was really good - we got oysters, mussels & clams. The sauce perfectly complimented them. However, we also got the snowcrab & it tasted as if it had been frozen and thawed and was horrible.
n.
This place use to have the best seafood chowder in town but no it is not for sure. I don't what happened but the recipe is completely different not tasty and lack of seafood. However the service is still great
N.
Amazing experience, best chicken wings get the mild/bbq sauce combo 👌 Bartenders we're awesome! Also music and atmosphere fun and crabby I'll be back real soon
L.
You should give them a try. They have fresh clams and mussels. Good place for celebration and hang out
A.
Awesome crab.. good price too. Had to wait a bit proberbly because of the Father's Day rush. But everything was great
G.
Service was awesome!
K.
Good service friendly staff. Nice crab but chicken wing ‘s sauce not really nice.
T.
Love everything there! The staffs are really nice and friendly, really beyond our expectations.
C.
Soft shell crab is my favourite here. I will always come back for more 😋
A.
Me and my partner always come here when we are craving beautiful crabs. Definitely coming back foh staff are really nice and inviting 😁 thanks guys was a great ending to our day 🙂 see you guys soon 🤗
R.
Love it here, happy hour deals are amazing
M.
Great service, great food, great atmosphere.
All boxes checked.
A.
Yeah it was good food, nice and fresh. No wow moments but if you want a seafood fix nothing wrong with Crab Shack. Decor is a little dated and the restaurant looks tired. We were in at 1130am on a Sunday. Beautiful sunny day. Good company and some good shellfish
P.
The food was very good. The service was nice. The atmosphere was relaxed and fun. We were there very late but were still made welcome. The only downside was the pressure to tip at the end of the meal, the service was what you would expect at a restaurant with these prices but it wasn't exceptional and it was a bit affronting to feel pressured to tip. I still believe in nz that tipping should be done at the customer's will, for service that goes beyond for some reason, and without pressure
G.
Our first time at new location. Unfortunately really underwhelmed. While the team were friendly it was disappointing that the menu wasn’t explained, especially the crab options. Not having “recommended sauces” means you guess at a suitable match. When we visit Auckland this place has been our “go to” for 5 years. Somewhat disappointed long time customers
B.
Lovely setting. Watch the ferries come and go while sipping on what ever you choose to drink.
I'm a big fan of Crab Shacks, Soft Shell Crab and their fries. yum plus!! I will be a regular diner there especially come warmer weather.
Big thing for me there also is the rustic decor
making it for me ....nice and relaxing.
N.
Love the lady who served us so friendly ....service was really good ...food and drinks was good.... a good day it was ...
B.
Couldn't recommend this place enough!! Service was brilliant, Alex and the other guy were great. A bit too much sauce on the crayfish roll otherwise everything was really good. Thanks for a great night team!
B.
Great food. Price is right. Servers are friendly and nice. Best experience ever!
C.
Nice view of the bay with delicious meals.
C.
Not bad. But not sure it's out of Oyster season or what, they don't have fresh oyster to serve.
J.
Had my birthday dinner at this restaurant. Great service, everyone was super nice. Only down side was the food I ordered - crab of the day.... Pretty sure they weren't fresh caught... Tasted like frozen ones...
W.
The view is fantastic. Right in the middle of down town. Service was a pit slow and food doesn't align with what you're paying for. Family atmosphere and definitely a place small crowd. Drinks are reasonable with a touch of indoor to outdoor atmosphere.
E.
Delicious oysters, chicken wings, cocktails and beer
R.
Beautifully cooked crabs, amazing taste. Great service with a smile
K.
Good place, the ambience seems dated but wasn't too bad, the music was good and so was the fragrance of seafood when you enter, though not many may enjoy it. The service could be better. It did take 25 minutes to get a glass of water. We ordered quite an extensive spread which took over 45 minutes to arrive. Highlights include a Whiskey-based cocktail, the tempura softshell crab and the brownie with Banana icecream. The dessert could have definitely looked better - 0 efforts in the plating. My partner ordered the seafood marinara but didn't seem to enjoy it much. I ordered the Crab of the day and after 20 minutes of waiting the waiter returned to tell me it wasn't available, which seemed pretty ironical to me - a Crabshack where crabs were unavailable! I did think for a minute to take off, considering that I came there for the crab of the day. I was encouraged to go for the lobster instead, which wasn't too bad but felt was not worth the cost. Nevertheless, I wouldn't go again.
C.
Really enjoyed the food, felt very welcome and the staff didn't rush us out the door after we had finished eating.
The food was great. I had the cajon fish and colleague fish and crab tacos. Both good choices.
Nice and warm with plenty of heaters on a cool night.
C.
Nice place by the pier, service a bit slow bit good selections of beer...
A.
Best ever service here and amazing food, atmosphere warm and inviting
M.
The place is in a terrific location on the pier and still accessible to the downtown. Inside is a little noisy, but that keeps with the general vibe of the establishment. The food is good - fish tacos are excellent and the vegetarian burger option is unique. On the whole, it's a nice place that is fairly busy most of the time. The Saturday night live music was actually very enjoyable - the singer/guitarist was talented!

Food was great but there was an issue with one of the staff members. Ordered the snack n cheese and nuggets for a kid but waitress only bought out one. When I told her that we were missing the other meal. Waitress came back and bought out both meals again by accident not realising it was only one meal we were missing. Waitress went to take food back but was stopped by her manager Carey or whatever, Carey came out to our table with the waitress and accused us of explaining the situation wrong and then they went out back. The rest of the might. The same waitress had to tend to us and unfortunately the next time she came out, it was obvious she had been upset. Throughout the night I could hear little comments made about the manager. The support staff were amazing, food was fantastic scenery to die for just felt awful for the staff and how hostile it must get for them.
J.
Expensive but worth it. They have great cocktails
J.
We were there at happy hour but has to wait a while to be seated. It appeared they are under staffed. My wife ordered red wine and they bought white. I told the waiter they made a mistake but he just left the wine and walked away. We founded other places on the other side of the wharf that are much better.
R.
Amazing lively atmosphere. The staffs are really helpful with recommendations and service. The seats near the window has an amazing harbour view.
The crab pots are a must try. They are one of the freshest & yummiest crabs you'll taste. It is a bit pricey but totally worth it.
They have a good collection of alcohols too!!
H.
Great service. Nice food. Good selection of drinks. The pork tacos in lettuce were a great low carb / keto option. Yum.
P.
Went here last night. Not much to say - not a place I'd recommend. The food was ok, the menu was a bit of a disappointment. Was expecting more crab/seafood options but it barely had anything.
A young lady served us - we'd give her 5 stars.😀
J.
Eclectic and trendy eatery with loud 90s music and videos playing. Good selection of foods and attentive staff.
L.
Staff were friendly, chips and calamari were good. Crabs arrived in garlic butter not a dipping sauce. Bit stingey on the prawns. Probably wont go for dinner again. But we had a good burger and chips lunch here on the last visit.
L.
Food was good, had a deep stench of seafood which is a bit off putting when you first walk in. Service was fine. The Wellington crab shack a lot nicer than the Auckland one in terms of ambience. Wouldn't return to the Auckland one but would go back to the Wellington restaurant.
A.
My friend and I went here last night, and the customer service was perfect 👌
We ordered the oysters, wings and fish and chips 10/10, we will definitely be returning.
Well done team 👍
M.
Harbour front location in Auckland. Fantastic fish and chips made from freshly caught local fish.
B.
My son and I came here for dinner in two occasions. We were lucky to show up between 3pm and 6pm during the happy hour. Regular process are quite convenient but during happy hour you will have one dish for just $10 (NZ $). What a deal!!
The atmosphere is nice and the servers were really friendly.
M.
Love the atmosphere. Great for drinks! Food is below average especially for price.
D.
Had work event there. So night was filled with great food great company, drinks were flowing and last but not least a very hospitable staff. We were a group of 25, was a busy night for Carrie ( apologies if incorrect spelling) and her crew but she made us feel we were the only customers there. Massively recommend The Crab Shack for familys, work functions. Nice relaxed dress it up or casual wear atmosphere. Loved it.
G.
Nice food and atmosphere. We went with crab cakes, softshell crab, and fish tacos. They were all great. Had a couple of nice cocktails too, which h went down a treat.
There was an exceptional singer there who really added to the atmosphere.
S.
Nice food. Too long before food and drinks came. Of 7 meals 2 arrived when others had half eaten theirs. Waiters didn't know enough about gluten free options.
W.
Friendly Staff. Good food
O.
Cute restaurant, love that they committed to the theme. Yum food (I had lamb) but be warned they are big meals. Great service, really fun waiter. Will be taking my partner back here next time as he loves seafood.
T.
Good seafood restaurant, right on Auckland wharf with good view. We ordered the crab tacos, mix of by the scoop in garlic chili butter and Jonas crab claws. They were all excellent and worth to try.
Good service & clean bathroom
We will return and sample other dishes on the menu
A.
Very good food at The Crab Shack, though wish they offered more crab items other than what was on the menu. Great service and a very kind group of wait staff, especially considering they were working on a holiday! Would recommend for some tasty eats by the water
R.
I'm a vegetarian, but I had the fish and chips here to try them and they were amazing! The best live music in a restaurant I've ever heard was also playing at the time. (Visited January 2019)
A.
Nice place right at the quay. Fish was delicious, but the tartar sauce and chips could be better.
S.
Really cool place. We ordered 6 different dishes, and everything was really good. The Clam chowder is amazing. Maybe they can improve the drinks and beer offer.
V.
Safest seafood place for comfort food! 3-6pm weekday half-price promo are on right now! Snagged 500gm of green lip mussels at $7.
Great ambience, alcohol prices are decent! Damage: $75 for 2 pax
D.
Lovely meal with family, and staff were polite. Fish and chips highly recommended, fries especially yummy.
A.
Good is very good, and staff are friendly and helpful. Area we were seated in was quite draughty and we all remained in winter jackets. The upside of this is that their mulled wine tasted great and kept us warm.
S.
Excellent atmosphere and service. Held a friend's birthday here and she loved the clams and mussels scoops with wine cream gravy, and the garlic chili gravy. Their ciabatta bread was good and the garlic butter spread/dip was amazing. They were willing to reserve a table for 15 people and to keep the cake for us a few hours before we arrived. The waitress was very helpful and made sure that were attended to (cake prepared, water glasses refilled). The place also had live music and served cocktails, cider and beer. Would recommend if you're looking for great place to celebrate and hangout but might be a bit too pricey for regular meals.
S.
Had the seafood chowder on recommendation from our server. Good call!! Lots of seafood in there and a hearty broth. Then had some happy hour beers and oysters. Sooo fresh. Best I've had. Servers were nice we didn't have to wait for anything very long. Definitely recommend!!
k.
Will definitely visit again. Fresh crab in a creamy sauce that had bite to it. Chowder was yum. Staff was great. 2 settings to choose from. Cocktails we're yum too . On the wharf so you can take a stroll after. Friendly environment. Ty for a wonderful experience.
R.
Very nice food excellent service cocktails delicious hoghlight of the night was king crab most awesome
K.
Great place for drinks. Friendly barkeepers and fun to watch the busy life in the harbour.
M.
Nice food and drinks! Try the Madagascar Crabs!
C.
I've been here before and this visit I was expecting it to be as good as the first time but sadly the food wasn't as good. Just OK. The crab of the day was well cooked but very bitter tasting. Even the tempura soft shell crab (shack board) this time around wasn't as good as previous.
The place itself is good in a great location The staff are very good and super helpful. Not sure why they give you plastic cups to drink your water out of - seemed a bit budget.
R.
Enjoyed the steak my family had the crab legs don't think it was worth the money though
T.
The food was very good, we tried four different dishes. They were all presented well and very tasty. However the service was extremely poor with long delays, drinks forgotten even when being asked for twice. The restaurant didn't appear to be that full, to warrant any of this. Wait staff seen just chatting with one another.
N.
This is a difficult review coz the service at The Crab Shack is amazing! If I could, I’d put 5 stars for the incredible staff there. They are efficient, welcoming, helpful and went beyond their duty to answer some of our questions and to assist us. The place is cosy and has a sports bar / pub kinda feel
Food - it is not bad. The Marinara was tasty but overcooked and lacked a little salt (the salt shaker at the table took care of that problem). The rating is a 3 coz it wasn’t cheap and for that price we expected better food but my recommendation is to avoid food like pasta and stick to burgers (and maybe crabs!) coz that was good
L.
This place is great for happy hour - Richard the bar manager is great at making you and your group feel welcome and the buzz in the bar is fantastic as is the view. They have daily deal promotions between 3pm - 6pm so check those out. The food is less than average and expensive for what you get. I would come here for the drinks and view and would not order any crab - as you only get legs. I think a menu refresh would be a huge improvement.
D.
Had a lovely evening out. I had the spicy crabs, which were cooked very nicely with good flavour. My cocktail was fun. And the service was excellent. Only downside was the uncomfortable seats!
C.
Would love to give the Auckland location of this chain restaurant a 5 star review, but can't. My first experience with Crab Shack was in Wellington where the food was some of BEST seafood I've had in my life. The paddle crab was fresh and sweet, in a buttery and spice broth that I lapped up like a ravenous animal. The curry clams were in a thick sauce that clung to the delicious crustaceans. However, the Auckland experience was quite different. Upon arrival were told that the chef uses different recipes.... And the we're right. The curried clams were in a soupy broth that barely flavored them and the paddle crab....phew!....smelled terribly of ammonia (which usually indicates shellfish meat that is well beyond its prime). That said...others who had the calamari and fish specialty loved their dishes....also, service is great and the location on the wharf is unbeatable. The Crab was quickly taken off my table and my bill. I'm hoping that the bad crab was just a fluke, but the chef should have known better than to continue serving this dish...which he did on the night I was there. Sorry... Only 3 stars for the Auckland location of Crab Shack......5 stars for Wellington.
C.
The food was lovely and we enjoyed having dinner in this place.
T.
Really nice place, next to the sea. Customer service was good, really really busy place but didn't feel like we were waiting for too long. Had the sea food boil up, supposed to feed 4 people but more 1/2 people serving I reckon. Overall good experience and yummy food
P.
Great service and fantastic position on the harbour, try the fish and prawns!!
R.
Fish and Chups tastes good, the fries and the salad on the side were nice. Ginger beer very cold and a nice breeze from the bay. Quick service, and friendly all around.
D.
Nice family dinner out, got a quite table away from everyone. Service was good, found out kids meal was free with adult meal which was cool.
Got jerk(?)chicken burger, chowder, clams w white wine chilli garlic sauce, and fish n veges for baby.
Everything was yum, but chowder didnt come with bread so had to order some. the clams and sauce was very good.
Had kids colouring stuff which helped provide few mins distraction for our 10sec attention span boy lol.
Prices vs serving size vs quality was pretty good. The price was high for slightly smaller servings but was on the viaduct and great quality so def worth it if u ok to splash out a little.
T.
First up, deffinately give this place a try. I was looking fwd to visiting this place for a very long time. Highly recommend. Our waitress Liz was really friendly and got our orders exactly right.
Ordered the market fish and chips plus crab, in which the f&c actually outshone the crab. Honestly some of the best in NZ, but that crab would be better offered with a garlic sauce i feel. Maybe some more local craft beer options could be added too? Btw my score is 4.5 but i cant add the half fsr.
J.
A great place for seafood lovers. Started with the 'hot & spicy' chicken wings which were NOT hot or spicy at all - disappointed. Then had the crab of the day with the slaw side, took a while to get the chilli flavour of the crabs but not too bad for a first experience at whole crabs in a hard shell.
Good beer selection as well
D.
Pretty average food for a place that seems like it should be a great seafood restaurant, especially at a prime location. Over priced for what we got. Service was good and friendly, more effort needs to be put into developing a higher quality meal for the price.
C.
Great view and brill food with loads of beer choices.
J.
Not great. Just ok. It was close to our Airbnb, and we were hungry. But if we checked reviews first, we would've known better. Oh well. The ladies serving us were nice though :)
s.
Lovely Hospitality As Soon As We Entered The Door, Welcomed, Greeted & Seated Just Like That From The Wonderful Restaurant Manager. Spectacular Live Band Playing, Delicious Food & Cocktails. Highly Recommend This Place For Everyone, Would Definitely Go Back There When I Come Back To Auckland Next. Very Reasonable Prices.
P.
Exceeded our expectations for what we expected to be a standard fish place! Good salad, delicious soft shelled crab. Catch of day good, served over hash browns, unexpected, good choice. Fish n chups ( yes, chups) delicious with great slaw. All good!
S.
This may be best when it's slow mid afternoon for a bite as it is very touristy. The fish was good and service pleasant. But (disclaimer) I did not have the crab (billed as "getting messy", and it is expensive).
R.
Service was excellent! I stupidly got the fish and chips, which were OK. My friends got the mussels and crab and we're really pleased. Starters were also really nice. Good place to go with a group of friends for a casual night out.
S.
Had Tuesday night Mussels deal here & thoroughly enjoyed it. A friend had crab & they were very happy with it. Will be going back again with the same friends & hopefully with another group to enjoy the food. Easy location near to public transport.
S.
Can't talk enough about the food here. The service was spectacular and the staff were really friendly and helpful. The perfect dining experience. Would recommend making a booking otherwise they're happy to seat you at the bar while you wait for a table.
J.
Good food. Service a little slow to get table service and drinks. Chefs did an awesome job. Atmosphere ok. Slightly noisy during peak time of 7pm. Great for kids including young kids and they have a kids menu. Crab not so good if you are used to premium fresh crab in Singapore as their crab is frozen and thawed so the meat breaks up into little pieces like threads which doesn't occur with fresh cooked crab. Hey it takes the same I'm just a crab snob and like the best and buy the best.
J.
Great spot for a casual dine in, with live music - heaps of options on the menu with the famous Crabpots a favourite with tourists and locals a like. Local beers on tap to sample if you're in town for a visit as well as a number of special offers depending on the week. Staff are busy but friendly and go the extra mile for you. Overall a great experience.
H.
Chowder was flavorful and a warm welcome to a chilly day and drizzly day. Despite that the star of the meal comes later IMO.
Softshell crab board was a slight disappointment. I mean that in the nicest way possible. It lacks character or a defining piece for me. The crab was nicely battered and fried presented on a board but it just doesn't have a wow factor for me.
Tiger prawn perfectly cooked and the meat was not chewy at all. Excellent timing on the cook of the prawn. The sauce it came in with lacks heat for me. If I remembered correctly it was influenced by Singapore style. Singaporean food aren't known for their spiciness but I feel this dish should have brought some heat to help.
Lastly my personal favorite dish of the night the green mussels in white wine garlic sauce. Mussels are all perfectly cooked as expected and the sauce really help elevate the flavor. Sauce was rich and garlicky although there wasn't a lot of spice (menu mentions chilli) I however think spiciness wasn't needed here. Adding more spice into the sauce would just overpower the flavor (IMO). The sauce was so good I had to order some bread to just dip it in cause we live in a civilised society and I can't just take the pot and drink it like a barbarian.
4/5 stars. Unrelated to the food. There was only 1 waiter for the entire place? Cause that's the feel I got even though there's at least 3 more bus boy but it seems only the waiter/manager was running all over seating people, taking orders and checking up on tables.
D.
Over all good but crab was a bit over cooked played $75 for small pot of crab which I believe was a bit expensive considering the mix of crab only had one type that was decent tasting sauce and vegies were great as a seafood lover I would still go back
K.
Great meal lovely service. We sat by the kitchen and it was nice to hear them all working hard and responding to the chef as a team 'yes chef' haha. Crab was cooked very well very fluffy rich meat enjoyed every bit and the it wasnt a very long wait. Good non seafood options for my partner who enjoyed the pork belly. Not a fan of the low stools need more comfy chairs to sit back and rip apart a crab then fall back and relax.
C.
Nice location, great food and fantastic customer service. Simply the best customer service we received during our North Island stay. Staff went above and beyond to make sure we were happy, made great suggestions and were very friendly. Would recommend to anyone visiting Auckland.
Also it'd be a fantastic spot to have a few drinks on a nice sunny afternoon.
B.
The seafood chowder was hands down the best chowder I've had. It's not every day you find a place that serves chowder with generous bite size pieces of fresh seafood. The service was also attentive and friendly. Worth the visit.
M.
They have amazing helpful staff.
Unfortunately the changes in the menu are for the worst. Used to love crab of the day, best gravy ever!
Shouldn’t put anything you can’t cook on the menu.
That’s not sambal, completely different dish. My southeast asian ancestors will wake up & die again if they see that 😂
R.
Disappointed with the food I had there a while ago. Overpriced.
L.
For 3 adults and a little one we ordered the King, crab of the day 1kg, mussels and chowder. The King comes in 700grams servings and we thought it probably isn't much considering the weight of the shells, boy were we wrong. We were so full that towards the end we were literally stuffing crab meat down our throats trying to finished everything. The crab of the day was Aussie blue swimmers, and maybe it had better sauce but I think it tasted better than the King, but the King had bigger chunks of meat that made you feel every mouthful was worth it.
A.
My wife and I have frequented various venues in this chain. She preferred the paella which is no longer on the menu. No matter where we go they are always in high demand and for good reason. Their non-seafood options make the visit worthwhile regardless of your tastes. They do not take reservations for groups of less than 8 however.
S.
Good atmosphere. The crab cakes pulled me in. Nice serving, staff, decor, atmosphere. Crab cakes whilst quite tasty were not overly loaded with crab which was my expectation/memory of them from USA. Still enjoyed them :-)
R.
We were told by the usher we couldn't have a booth as we were only a party of four, but another party of four were in a booth & instead they sat us on the smokiest table available right next to the kitchen. We were only given a hand bowl after both of us had finished crab so hubby had to go to the bathroom to wash his hands. Dessert options were weak so we went elsewhere. Cocktail was lovely, garlic bread was really nice, scoop shellfish entrée was average, as was seafood chowder entrée (hard potato, hardly any seafood pieces). Jonah crab 500g dinner was nice, I liked the cabbage & broth but it needed extra sides. It was also a lot of work to eat! Our waiter was great though. Would return
R.
Money well spent
The seafood chowder and 1kg of crab was super tasty
S.
Had dinner there tonight and what a fun night it was. The menu had a large arrange of choices to satisfy the fussiest of eaters. We all nibbled on an array of tacos, crab cakes and chicken wings that were perfect with our jug of beer. Than I had the Snow Crab with the most amazing sauce and a side of rice. The Crab shells was sliced into and really easy to rip apart and eat and my partner had the lamb which she said was phenomenal (we're not the best at sharing). The rest of our party had the Steak with King Crab legs and the Marinara. Great food, great drinks, great service and great music. I honestly couldn't stop myself from singing along by the end of the night haha. Just a real relax fun vibe and such a change from the usual stuffy uptight places you end up at.
A.
Casual, seems fashionable (although we don't really care about that) yet quite fancy, focused on seafood, Alaskan king crab for example, good food. Has a bar also. Great views of the water. Don't expect cheap food though!
K.
Just came in for almost 20 minutes and haven't been acknowledged for our order. I've literally looked at all the staff and majority of them seem to be either just walking about or even just having a chat with each other.
I havent even tried the food just yet but maybe I'll bump an additional star if it's any good.
R.
What a spot!!! Fantastic sunshine, super friendly staff, amazing atomosphere and delicious food. What more could you ask for. New favourite, couldn't recommend more!
S.
We came for a birthday. My sisters 20th. Service was above pah they even sang and brang out a special little dessert with a candle. Much appreciated that because they really seemed to be into it. Our waiter was a guy with glasses , olive skin . UNFORTUNATELY I didnt get his name but he was AMAZING JUST AMAZING. I put the 5 stars mor to his service .
M.
Great new location, food was awesome and the crab was deeeelish. Suggest you park at the AT parking across the street
P.
Was in a hurry and took advantage of the fact there wasn't a long wait. Ordered the lamb burger. Was okay; nothing to truly rave about. Was just ok. With so many choices in the area, believe there may be better options around. The high point for me was the music.
S.
Expensive. But worth it! King crab leg was super delicious. If you're alone, take the 1kg mixed shell fish with curry. It was sooooo tasty, Indian curry if I'm not mistaken. On my second visit, I got myself a plate of prawns and the king crab leg and a glass of wine. Wine was really nice. Don't worry much about the price as the food will never dissapoint you.
H.
Great food and venue. We had the soft shell crab tacos, seafood chowder, clams and muscles in garlic chilli butter sauce, and Cajun catch of the day fish and that went down with a spicy lychee soft drink. Amazing.
A.
Good seafood. It's relaxing to have a drink here
D.
Nice bowl of mussels in wine n garlic for 10 bucks & wine, beer & cider for 5 bucks - good deal, nice staff. Called in here on Friday 3 January for my go to Friday Fush & Chups $15, best in Auckland, love this place.
D.
Devine food, service excellent looking forward to going back again.
G.
Their soft shell crab tacos are suuuperrrr good.
J.
Great atmosphere, location and food!!
G.
Great food....awesome service....brilliant location...oh and did I mention the great food
K.
Great seafood place with sea view. Always check what's on their special of the day.
T.
Best meal I had in NZ and rather cute waitresses. The salt and pepper squid was tender and full of flavour as an entree. For main the steak was cooked a perfect medium rare with a nice hit of spice to the potatoes
A.
Friendly staff and the food was okay. Didn't try the seafood so can't comment as to whether that would boost the rating. There's a lot of good restaurants nearby that I'd consider to be of higher quality.
K.
I would highly recommend this place for all seafood related dishes. The atmosphere was greater and the service was quick and polite. We even left a tip, that was not required in NZ.
L.
It was fabulous!!! Staff are friendly and on it! But the food....mmmmmmm so soo sooooo good!!!! The crab is a must 🖤
A.
Pretty good. Food is great, the day I was there service was really slow and I had wine knocked over me by a waitress that had no real menu knowledge. Service awful, food great, wine average. I expected better for the location
K.
Crab shack has epic food at reasonable prices for the city. 10/10 would eat with my finger again and pick a few bits of crab off my shirt and eat those too like i did tonight. You know you would too, dont deny the goodness.
T.
Superb service, yummy seafood, can not fault 👏 👌 A+
K.
FOOD
--Good food and nice portions.
--Not many veggie options, but a nice salad.
SERVICE
--Good service for a busy Saturday night for a party of 8+ and we each wanted to pay separately, or as couples.
OTHER
--Good location on the water; lots of other bars/restaurants and ATM nearby; walkable for Auckland CBD.
J.
Service average. Waited for 10 mins to be seated and then 15 for order to be taken. It seemed a bit of a shambles really and a lot of people waiting. HOWEVER food was good and fairly priced for inner city.
D.
Food was tasty, generous portions and well priced. Service was a bit haphazard. Shown to a table and then nothing.....happened a couple of times during the meal. Ruined the experience which would have been easily a higher rating.
M.
Loved this place! The food and drinks are great. The location on the pier is a definate plus. The atmosphere is bright and cheerful. There was live music. Really fun and set up for families too. Grat staff.
G.
Socially popular restaurant right on the waterfront. Food is good but the service is quite slow & it wasn't a particularly busy night - it took about 10-15 minutes from ordering a jug of beer for it to arrive on the table & the fish cake entré arrived with the main - about 30 minutes after ordering.
V.
The food was very good, atmosphere great and service just on point. Extra special thanks to Liz who was really attentive and so much fun! Kiitos!
j.
Service was lacking food was just ok
M.
For happy hour we ordered a generous portion of steamed muscles with GREAT bread and 2 happy hour drinks. $35 total and a fantastic atmosphere right on the water.
Y.
Went with family, absolutely love the food !! Friendly staff!, reasonable price, recommend!!
Surprised to find out that kids dine free with any main dish ordering!! Sweet!!
N.
The service was awesome, the food was average. We had crab and mussels and burgers and it was okay, I wouldn't go again.
A.
It was middle of the road in my opinion, this is coming from someone who's grown up eating crabs. The flavours of the food were nice, but it almost felt like it was smothering the crab meat.
Also for a place that's called "Crab Shack" there's not a whole heap of menu it's with crabs in them. That and it's slightly over priced for some the food items on the menu.
C.
Easter was pleasant and the service was good. It is a shame the food and wine were average/overpriced. Lunch bill was 98 NZD for two and from my experience should have been more like 70 NZD.
J.
Company's Xmas do here. I cannot fault the food or service on a very busy night and my husband's Wakanui steak was the best he's ever had. Awesome location. Great atmosphere.
k.
Love the food & the view.. friendly staff!
L.
Fantastic feast of seafood delights. Parking is expensive next to the restaurant; 11/2 hours cost me $20. If you don't mind walking then it pays to park in Wilson car park down the road. The view and atmosphere was beautiful and coastal.
T.
The food was great, the ambience was very comfortable, and our waitress Liz was extremely pleasant. I had the battered fish burger. Very tasty
P.
Nice coffee and decent burger. But I found out the waiting staff hover for a few seconds for tips. However nice atmosphere. Kids eat free if under 10
J.
Surcharge on card payments @ those rates is not so good. Gpod atmosphere.
R.
Good foot nice people top service
Y.
Better than expected. Good quality seafood dishes. Decent servings. Good place for a lunch or afternoon drinks by the water.
T.
Absolutely delicious enjoyed by all the family. Staff was super friendly and very helpful great view of the harbour inside and out.
R.
Carmen our server went above and beyond with my peanut allergy for us. The food was yummy too but the attention and care Carmen showed us went above and beyond. A cool place on the waterfront
M.
Pretty amazing what you can buy here - seafood wise. Obviously lots of different types of crabs. Quite messy eating so definitely take the bib of offered to you. They do an awesome seafood chowder. You can get cocktails here too. Great place to go for a different style of restaraunt with good food options. Has an american vibe and american style food
K.
It was a great place , me an my wife came in for lunch .
My meal I had was mean ,just say thank to da chefs yous are on point an the waiter we had hosting as was helpful da man an da 3 pinacolada was just right.😀😀happy customer....
M.
It’s been a while now since I was here, but I remember having the deep fried crabs and they were amazing. I can certainly recommend this place. It’s something a little different and scrumptious.
A.
Nice service and very good food! Even refunded the steak because it wasn't prepared the way we asked. Will definately be going again soon
N.
What a vibrant and busy atmosphere at The Crab Shack ... it was a Friday night and the restaurant was filled with children wearing disney inspired costumes excitingly waiting for the Disney on Ice show to commence. The staff we're busy and it took a little while to be served and also for our meal to come ... but our fish of the day, ceasar salad meal was delicious and my daughter thoroughly enjoyed her Mac n Cheeee (was actually very nice) although they did forget her spider drink we ordered. Also they do have portable charging banks which could charge multiple devices at once 😁
G.
Large group this time. The food is good but not as memorable as other places in Auckland for me. I think I preferred Depot although the view here is better. Do not bring a vegetarian. :-)
S.
Great food and service!
S.
Had the chowder and a glass of wine for lunch. nice staff
J.
Asides from being a beautiful place, by some nice restaurants and the New Zealand Maritime Museum, The Crab Shack offered an "eat outside" option with a glass roof which allows birds to come in and visit. I had their mixed seafood marinara dish and it was simply exquisite! I even met a fellow canuck there who moved to Auckland for the exceptional weather. I must go back here before leaving to have their snow crab! A definite must. The wait staff was very kind, and easy on the eyes if I can say! 💜
R.
Great atmosphere, very pleasant and helpful wait staff, food nicelypresented & well received by our party, will definitely go again
P.
Fantastic fish and chips. Calamari starter was very nice too. Staff were friendly and the place has a good vibe.
v.
Really nice place for seafood.. a must try
J.
Decent food but not fantastic and very average service. We actually thought of getting up and walking out to get them to chase us for payment. Even after getting up and asking for the bill it still didn't come.
G.
We were there a few weeks ago and looooooooved the food. So yum! Not giving it a 5 though because we had to ask 3 different waiters for water, I can understand they get busy BUT we kept having to waiting 30 mins everytime we asked
K.
Obey the claw! And enjoy best clams in town. I Like the old fishermen style dishes, friendly staff and the overall ambience. It is our regular weekend "cider stop" where we catch up and have iddlle talk over a pint overlooking the busy ferry terminal.
M.
Went to crab shack at the port on the 14th of May.
About 15 minutes walk from my hotel ordered steak and drinks for 71 Newzealand $. Food was delicious , service was ok( always late),
Restaurant was crowded but the venue was good .
Prices are high.
E.
Some amazing memories here, lunch time prices are very reasonable too. Nice atmosphere and awesome food.
D.
Fun place with nice view of port. Food was decent but not the best. Price was a little higher than average but given its location near the port and tourists its to be expected.
M.
Nice venue with good happy hour specials. $5 wines and beers.

Slow service. Only had mussels that were chewy. Might be from frozen product. My only bad choice in NZ. Too many other options available around.
They just tried to charge me the water they didn’t serve.

Great location, overlooking Auckland Harbour. The beer was perfect and the lunch deal was very good value. It was just what we were looking for.

Great dining experience. We had small child but still very nice food and great service. Good kids menu

Yummy crab cakes, slaw, and clams. Great cocktails.

Orderd Muscles for starters, they were huge! Tasted amazing, as did the burger! Fast service, apart from when asking for the bill three times at the end.

Great lunch with family.

I thought this place was okay, didn't really stand out for any particular reason. It was raining outside and the water came in. The place also had a very fishy smell and even though it's a seafood place, this smell was more of a lingering one that was old and musty. The staff were very helpful and friendly but sometimes it took a while to be served. I don't think I'd go again, but good to be able to say that I had it.

The food was amazing and the staff were very friendly

Staff swore were having a good time swearing and throwing ice at each other. Had to ask twice for our sparkling water. Food was good.

I love seafood and for the price we paid here I definitely expected better. Not great, but not bad either. Just an average place, with a high price. Portions weren't filling either, which was a shame.

Delicious soft shell crab tacos and the $10 ribs special was worth it! Service a little slow but bareable. Would definitely go back.

Great staff, great food, great atmosphere. The bar manager makes mean cocktails!

Great food and friendly helpful staff. The restaurant month set menu was amazing. We all loved it.

The host/ manager was quite rude and it made us feel unwelcome.
We waited long for the food, but the food was very well prepared

Food was great. Pity about the service, slow and staff very slow to take orders. Bathrooms were filthy and floors slippery as.

Food was alright, prices weren't too bad for lunch but portion sizes were very small (lunch sandwich was more of a slider). Seemed to have a touristy feel to it. I wouldn't go back but it was okay.
