Great except car blocking pedestrian entry which sucks if you're in a wheelchair or baby mover as you need to lift your stuff over the top. Seemed to be there a while so either staff or a bar fixture. EDIT. Car is still parked there.

I went the other day with my mother for lunch and it was wonderful. The food was nice and hot, and staff were so friendly. The atmosphere is very relaxed, just like you’re at home. For those seeking Alcoholic beverages, there are multiple pages spanning a wide range from wine to beer to gin. For those seeking non alcoholic beverages, the last page provides a very likeable range, including mocktails, regular soft drinks and ginger beer. The pizza is very tasty (we had the one with grilled chicken on - Dannevirke). And although there’s only 5 options for brunch, the creativity in these options doesn’t stop - the Carnegie Hash (basically like an eggs Benedict) was so tasty and definitely one of my top 5 rosti favourites. Any mistakes were owned up to and quickly remedied. Server Shoutout: Liam. He was so kind to us (everyone was) and made us feel like we were meant to be there.

We have been here a couple of times and it's great. The location is beautiful in an old library. Good selection of beers with the tasty Panhead Supercharger on tap. We were quickly met with a warm welcome and seated with 2 adults and 3 kids. Our orders were taken straight away and drinks and food arrived really quickly. The kids and adults meals were really good sizes. The ribs were delicious with a really tasty sauce and loads of meat on the bone. Everyone loved their meals. The place was pretty busy but not noisy, sports was on with the sound off so you could keep an eye on the game. Toilets were clean. We would definitely go back, the whole family enjoyed it.

Fantastic service was great food, I recommend the lamb shanks best I have ever had. The spare ribs were plenty full and tasty as my son enjoyed them as well. 💯 Satisfied. Will return to the Good Home Onehunga first time visiting this franchises. Will make a point to dine at a Good Home franchises again.

Good for a easy lunch with the kids. Would probably go back after 4pm next time to get the free kids meals with adults. Hubby had the curry, "it was ok". Kids loved the pizza and nuggets with chips (photo taken too late to get chips). I had lamb salad. Lamb was beautiful (meat was off shanks I think). Dish was saved by the lamb - dressing over powered the whole dish. Overall happy with meal, did the job of filling us up. cost with $95.10. Would give it a go again.

A pleasant upgrade from the last time we were here, more modern looking. Staff are really friendly but I noticed they were getting orders wrong on other tables as well as ours (my wife asked for scrambled eggs & she got poached) no biggie though eggs an egg right? Location is far enough away from the Onehunga hustle & bustle and It appears to be an ideal summer venue for those late afternoon beers.

Hosted a 21st surprise bday here. The food was delicious & beautiful. Love the atmosphere, big and spacious and kids had a space of their own to play. Big open space outside but secure frm the rain and massive screens to watch the games. Love this place!! Definitely will come back.

We stopped in at The Goodhome in Onehunga for brunch and was amazed by the stunning former glory of the library interior of this gastropub slash cafe. Truly stunning! Given the amount of staff visible at this establishment, the service was average at best. Something I would expect and sympathise with had there been half the numbers. We ordered coffee with 3 rounds of the mixed mushrooms with scrambled eggs finished up with the chocolate brownie. Coffee was very good and the sweet treat was heavenly! This place is worth a visit purely for the interior and styling of the place.

Good Home in Birkenhead is my regular. Service was good, food was ok, but felt it wasnt as nice as the Birkenhead menu. May have been the dish I ordered. Wine was great. Pricing was great. Its a great vibe and ambiance.

A nice and cozy place for a couple of drinks with friends. They sometimes have DJ and you can watch your favourite sport there. Food and staff are also nice. What a lovely surprise in the heart of Onehunga :)

Excellent venue, the owners have done a smashing job doing up the old library, and in doing so helping to show off what Onehunga has to offer. Had the lamb shanks, and the regular portion was ample, and nice to see a restaurant not over charging. The mash with the shank was really creamy and delishious, and the meat in the shank was perfect, nice and tender with an excellent flavour sauce to compliment it. The reason for less than 5 stars was that I ordered a Guinness with it and the bartender poured it short, and on raising the issue, it was tipped away, and replaced with another short poured glass. Best place for a Guinness in Onehunga is The Landing. That said, the lamb shank made the difference and I'd definitely recommend The Good Home for that.

It’s good to see Onehunga finally get a nice bar. This one had an amazing outdoor deck so would be super nice in the summer time. On our visit we tried the chicken baos and some fries. The baos were really good with a nice Asian coleslaw and fresh flavours. Inside there are loads of seating options and a good selection of beer on tap/in bottles.

Back to this place after about five years! The interiors have been redone, and they are looking good. The art deco type structure beseeches you (when you are in front of the steps) to climb up to this ‘Good Home’ that has historically been a Andrew Carnegie Library! To ensure that this piece of history is not forgotten, they have a place of pride in the main hall, with books stacked up in a cosy corner; my first with “Books & Beer” in such proximity of each other! I liked it!! Parking will test your patience if, like us, you decide to go there on a weekend evening time. Approached and utilised the ‘route’ (wheel-chair access) that would have been right for one of the group members coming in late; just to be sure. 👍 A wide variety of beers (on tap) and wine are available to ‘enhance’ the experience that this place has to offer. Ordered the Beer of the Month (Panhead-strong, full bodied lager) and wasn’t disappointed at all. The side dishes ordered came with dips which made the palate feel more than satisfied. Somehow, the pizzas ordered, though ‘rich’ in ingredients, lacked the ‘zing’ one was expecting. Was surprised to see a DJ there. Music could have been a little softer (if there was a dance-floor, no one was dancing!). The service was exquisite. If it’s an indicator, I’ll be there again, very soon! Need to explore the other section 😊

Great to be able to see these old character filled buildings put to good use. Really nice indoor space although more family oriented with the library theme & the bogs were very clean & even classy! Good range of menu options both food & beverage although wine list a little short. Had great lamb shank & mash. I have visited The Good Home Onehunga 4 times now, twice for lunch and twice for an event (both 21st birthdays) I would like to say that they are AMAZING with events. The layout is very neat and tidy, the decor is quite cool and old-fashioned in the inside area, but towards the outside area and the main deck it's quite modern which is a great mix. The food is amazing, especially the chicken karaage which is so delicious, and always such a big hit at events. The first 21st I went to was my own only a few years back but I didn't think to write a review, they were absolutely amazing and catered for everything we needed, all with a smile. The second 21st was organised by myself and my partner. Considering this was our first time planning a birthday like this they were so easy to deal with and communicate with prior to the night, and on the actual night they were so attentive to us about everything we wanted so that the night could run as smooth as possible. Special mention to Cleo, and another blonde waitress which I regret not getting the name of. They were both so kind and made sure that we were aware of everything such as changes, issues, concerns, etc. we had a special video we wanted to play straight after the speeches and Cleo had watched and waited for us to mention the video so that it would play straight away, I also fussed about the sound and some messages popping up on the screen while the video was playing in front of all our guests and they were more than happy to solve the issue. The security guard was also very helpful and kind making sure we all had a good and safe night. I went into the kitchen to bring out the birthday cake which was quite large and heavy and the staff was yelling "cake coming through" to ensure no one would walk in my way. I went to collect the cake myself because they did not want to risk dropping the cake, and I was more than happy to bring it out again as I had dropped it off into the kitchen earlier that day as well. The security guard also offered to walk in front of me so that he could move anyone out of the way. Overall, the staff at The Good Home Onehunga were more than hospitable and friendly to us and really made our night. Customer service was amazing not only from the two girls who were looking after our event but also the at the guy at the bar who gave us great customer service aswell which I unfortunately also did not catch the name of! Staff really did make it feel like a "Good Home". Very happy with the service here, and it won't be the last time we visit or recommend this joint to others.

Former location for The Library Café. This place has been transformed to a fantastic restaurant and bar. A great place to have a drink, grab some good food and hang out with family or friends. Views of both One Tree Hill, and gorgeous sunsets from the outside deck seating.

First time coming here, book for a dinner with some friends and my Mum tagged along. It was a bit loud but Christmas parties were going on, the vibe in was so good! The waiter that we had she was so helpful, forgot her name. Always best to book in, the sitting was very good spacious. Honestly we loved the food. Calamari was perfectly battered and I loved my Dannivirke pizza definitely would come back and recommend to people.

Love the awesome restoration and preservation of this iconic heritage landmark building, so in keeping with the era but with a slight contemporary twist but not over the top, beautifully retaining it's old world colonial charm, very spacious, clean and well kept, I booked a table of 14 for a Birthday celebration, the staff were fantastic and service was quick despite being busy with the Sunday lunch rush. Meals were generous, hot, tasty and fresh. Great menu and wine selections and great coffee. Special mention to our server, young Scottish lass who was friendly, accommodating, calm under pressure and efficient. Thank you for making it a special celebration. We will be back!

What is not to like at this old charm of a venue. I love the IPA selection, the beef and Guinness bangers on mash was really good. I cant say the pizza is worth the price but it was tasty enough. Good place to hang with people from all walks of life, diverse crowd, big screens for the rugby. Great aesthetic, tastefully updated and clever interior has created several different areas of space in this establishment. Bar staff are helpful and happy to accommodate. They have different deals on different nights so their Steak Special night was to our delight! Great meals, never any complaints, walk out satisfied without leaving a hole in your pocket. Nice atmosphere, and makes great use of an old building, looks like they cater for children which is great. They have a trampoline, play house and slide. Food was fine. The place was very busy but I'd expect that as we head into Christmas. Typical sports bar with lots of screens inside and out if you're into that sort of thing. Good beer selection and the location is good as well. Parking can be limited during the day.

We had a function here last weekend, from start to finish we knew we were in good hands. We had the lovely Brooke arrange everything from start to finish. She went above and beyond checking in on everything. We arrived and everything was set to perfection. The kitchen did an amazing job with the food. All our guests expectations were definitely exceeded!! I dont know how many times we heard our guest say they will be back for lunch/dinner for sure! Thank you to the lovely waitresses who continued to clean up after us and make sure everyone was ok. Onehunga's best kept secret. Thank you to the Good Home Onehunga! :)

Had dinner here tonight, popular with the after drinks crowd so it was pretty noisy, great place for them! Ordered a range of meals. Had the Danniverke pizza and it was super bland, zero flavour. Burgers were fine, the salmon small plate was very unusual. Good service, very attentive. There’s not many decent places in Onehunga so it’ll suffice if you’re in the area.

Nice place. Decor is pretty groovy and still has all the cool old library stuff inside it which makes fun talking points and I like to walk around and read the spines of some of the books on display. Place is really clean and they have nice soaps and fresh baskets of hand towels in the bathrooms. Staff are always very friendly and attentive. Decent selection of beers and cocktails, so I like to come back for that. However, my only gripe is that the food is crazy over priced. I've had a few of the menu items and the quality isn't up to scratch, in my opinion. Eg: ~$15 for a burger, but they use plastic cheese instead of real cheddar. Small stuff, but makes all the difference.

Revisited November 2017 and had a much better experience. Great service and good food. Nicely refurbished with massive outdoor area providing a great opportunity for a stand out gastro bar in Onehunga. Even the menu looked promising however the experience was let down by the food and service. The meals were ridiculously simple and none of the staff seemed to know what was going on. Hopefully these were just teething issues - will be interested to revisit in 6 months time for a comparison.

Awesome venue. We had a large booking for my birthday there recently. The owners really looked after us and were really helpful in the planning of the event. Staff were amazing and made sure everyone was sorted. They supplied live music and he was awesome - got everyone up and dancing and singing along. One of the best venues for a function or just catching up with mates.

I generally only have drinks here as the food is pretty hit and miss. I've had some terrible meals here, so only go for drinks now. The bar is a great place to hang out though and in good weather the deck area is great. It would be great if they could sort out the quality and consistency of their meals, then I might go more often.

And a cider to go with it was $15. Sorry, calling yourself a 'Gastro' Pub doesn't allow you to charge like that for a steak and 3-4 prawns. The food was nice, but I don't think I've been charged that for a steak anywhere else. I would recommend lowering the prices, or at least making them clear on the menu.

I have to admit, based on other online reviews I was a bit hesitant at eating out here. Date nights are premium when you have them once a month...babysitters...etc. Anyway, in short, glad that we both went. The newly refitted interior does credit to the original classic interior. The vibe is excellent; if you're into the pub vibe - good music, clanking of glasses, and the comfortable background pub chatter. We wanted a quieter space to have dinner and chat so we sat in the conservatory. The food was good, the service was friendly, the price reasonable. And if you're into whisky, then they've got probably the best display that I've seen locally. We chatted with the manager - super friendly - and he informed us of upcoming promotions and the hint of live music in the near future. What a nice dinner out: pleasantly surprised and highly recommended.

Decent priced drinks but unimaginative selection of beer and cider (blame the cut & paste supply contract?). Avoid the house chard. The usual food menu you'd expect from any other generic gastropub but it's good quality. It is a bit expensive unless you go with the daily specials which are varied.

This is my 'local' - so nice to have somewhere really nice to go in Onehunga. The Good Home has a bit of everything - indoor & outdoor dining, outdoor seating for those wanting to have a drink & bar food, child's play area. Plenty of gas heating for the outdoor area & a new addition is blankets for the hardy souls who prefer to remain outside. The menu contains the usual 'pub grub' options - reasonable prices & decent portion sizes. The bar is well stocked with a variety of beers on tap & many a decent wine list. Glad you came to Onehunga, Good Home!

Had a business lunch in there, good range of small plates with the usual steak and fish and chip dishes one would expect. Vegetarian burger was Quinoa and Feta, with tomato, lettuce and vegetable chutney. Chunky chips were pipping hot. Service was quick for a group of 12. Didn't order a drink, put tap beers, spirits as you would expect. I would eat there again.

I love this place. I come here as often as I can and always have amazing service from the lovely staff and enjoy the beautifully decorated old building which gives it a great atmosphere. I visited a few days ago for my low key 68th birthday and was treated like royalty by the lovely young man. He made my birthday very special. The Jalapeno Poppers are the best with the Chipotle sauce for a snack and the Karaage Chicken is also beautiful.
