Went here for my birthday dinner during Restaurant Month and was very pleased with my meal. I had the Study of Beef and we had two sides but the broccolini side had a strange tasting sauce which we weren't too pleased with. Other than that my party had a good experience overall and the service was good too. I'd certainly go back here in future. Hopefully this place will be a Restaurant Month participant again next year!

We had been to The Grill for at least 10 times. If you want a good steak, it is the place to go. Their seafood is good too, but a little bit pricey. They have promotion every now and then, which is a good bargain

We have visited on my birthday. We ordered beef tartare, study of beef and duck fat chips. The wagyu melted like icecream in my mouth. We were surprised by dessert at the end which we didn't order. But restaurant's gift to us. We had wonderful time at The Grill and would love to go again.

Had a wonderful night last night @ The Grill by Sean Connolly at @skycityakl 🤩🤩 . Was treated to an evening filled with yummy food, wine and great company 👍🏼☺️🤗 . I love eating beef tartare, so I definitely had to order it here to try . . . And it definitely did not disappoint 👌🏼👌🏼 . It was a rich tasting raw beef, with egg yolk mixed through it and had a subtly strong herb flavor through it which complimented the beefiness 🤤🤤 . We also ordered: • Prawn & Crab Cocktail - which also had chunks of avo on cos leaves • Duck Fat Chips - enough said 🤭 • Broccolini - which i 💕 • Mashed Potato with chicken gravy • Study of Beef - this one was a chefs selection of 3 different cuts of steak that was parked on a big sharing board that we got to try a bit of each 👌🏼🤤 • aaand a very yummy Apple tart with vanilla bean ice cream 🤤👍🏼 . Everything was on point and we managed to finish a few bottles of NZ wines too 🍷🍷 . So happy we got to try this out and a big thanks to New Zealanders who are so friendly and hospitable 🥰🥳🤗

We came here with a group of 14 and was seated upstairs on the mezzanine floor. Service was top notch and the food was equally as good. I would recommend the Wagyu Black Origin Sirloin or Eye Fillet if you got $$. Duck fat chips 🍟 were also nice. Scampi sashimi for starters, finished off with the New York baked cheesecake with blueberry compote

Great birthday dinner! Decedent is an understatement, got greens to bring a little lightness to the meal, they were coated with butter hahaha so yum though. Great meat and cooked to perfection. Sauces and butter were awesome and the fries were so crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. Would love to go again.

Just had dinner here, it was outstanding. The service from start to finish was terrific and the mains + desert was again outstanding. If you're looking for an experience, I highly recommend you come here. The t bone, medium rare - delicious!

Amazing, had the eye fillet medium rare was nicely seared externally and soft and tender center ridiculously delicious. New York baked cheesecake for dessert WOW!! Light and soft melting as you bite it freaking amazing absolute heaven. Excited to book and go back. Would highly recommend it. Service was friendly and helpful

Super helpful staff even when it’s packed on a Saturday night. Feels like you’re eating in a cozy lounge with the wrap around banquette seating. Delicious food from the local seafood platter to the beef Wellington for three. Would return here, is one of the best options around Skycity

Absolutely fantastic place to have a celebratory dinner. We went there last night for my partner’s graduation and the food was beautifully balanced, perfectly seasoned and an absolute delight. This restaurant is as much the experience of dining as it is actual dining and it did not disappoint. Our waiter was incredible and she ensured that we had everything we needed when we needed it, as well as organising a celebratory “Congratulations” plate for my partner. Definitely a special occasion place for us in terms of pricing, but you get what you pay for in experience. Will definitely head back for our celebratory dinner!

Delicious steak and pork. Great service and good atmosphere. The cocktails weren't to my personal taste. The creme caramel was amazing, a must have! Best creme caramel I've ever had! Perfect balance of gelatin...not too dense or liquefied but comes together perfectly...soft and melts in the mouth!

Went here 5th June for dinner, I can't wait to go back one day. Absolutely outstanding and we've been to a number of restaurants & food places nationwide. The waiters & bar staff were unquestionably some of the best I've come across, friendly, extremely helpful and service was A+. Thanks guys, I know the Grill will appreciate your professionalism and conduct, awesome. I hate going into city places being a country person, but the atmosphere was relaxing and the first lady we walked into was awesome and very welcoming, seating us almost immediately with no reservation. The food, beautiful we had the prawns & pork belly. (see photos) Dinner was Duck duck duck, & a crab dish, A+, lovely, and I wish we could have had seconds. Chefs working hard in the background there, thanks for that Chefs we really enjoyed the Kai last night. The staff immediately noted & appropriately prepared food for my heavily pregnant partner - outstanding care and service there, and point to note they were immediately concerned with ensuring her food was prepared safely, you can't ask for more than that I thought, was very impressed how they jumped on this straight away with care and compassion towards her/us. This crew are on point. The drinks flowing, I enjoyed too many beers. No problems getting drinks to and from the table. Pudding was bliss, Cheesecake and I can't remember what the other one was, see photos. But a lovely way to end the meal. Price wise? absolutely appropriate and fair for what you're getting kai and service wise. Those that would complain about it? shouldn't be in there simple as that. We are not rich and were out for a treat night, expected nothing less - in fact probably expected it to be more. Good price, well in line for what you are getting I have no cons in all honesty, only thing I can say is we were staying at the Grand Hotel, so not sure how those that want to come in would go about parking as Auckland City is mental - I suppose you will park in the sky city parking, or taxi in. Otherwise it went perfectly staying at the hotel, there is a door in and out to the Hotel foyer. Otherwise, anyone that was serving us last night will know who we are from this review, thank you for an awesome dinner. I know we'll be back one day and it's a dinner we won't forget for sometime. Definitely head to the Grill, awesome thanks guys & girls.

Very good menu and meal here at The Grill. The table staff are fabulous and very friendly. Exceptionally well cooked meats here with stunning sauces to go with them. That miso hollendaise is particularly heavenly. Onion rings a filthy bonus too. If you're in the area or staying at the adjoining hotels then you need to check this place out. Bookings recommended, especially weekends.

Came here for Christmas dinner. Atmosphere was nice but the restaurant was only half full. The set menu was good but portion was way too much - 7 different courses but each was in full portion. We would probably enjoyed it more if the portion was smaller so there will be room left for wine and to enjoy the dessert more (which was fantastic!). Service was attentive and fast.

Dining experience was superb, our waiter David was entertaining and engaging throughout the night. We ordered study of beef, table salad, mash potatoes and duck fat chips. I especially enjoyed the beef and potato mash. Definitely a special occasion made even more special by the great food and service.

Half a decade ago I first had the pleasure of dining at The Grill by Sean Connolly, in one of my most memorable and enjoyable meals in New Zealand. Now on the cusp of leaving for another shore, it seemed only fitting that I should make the pilgrimage to return. The mood was different this time around; dining solo rather than with my companion, I was greeted warmly and then sat at a table which offered me full view of the kitchen. While in comparison I too felt similarly on display, I appreciated the position as it gave me such an insight into the operation. The room is a fascinating flurry of white jackets, both behind the service counter and on the floor. In this scenario it is hard to know who is chef, and who is wait-staff as both are bedecked the same style. My waiter for the evening was an earnest young chap who was giving his best and didn’t put a foot wrong. I have also never dined at a fine-dining priced restaurant and been treated to Nirvana and Green Day blasted from the speakers. All well and fine, but not what one expects given the white tablecloths and polished sparkling glasses and moody elegant interior. Certainly gave me a chuckle. On to the food; a welcome mushroom broth as an amouse bouche. Velvety and smooth, it set my palate up nicely for the meal to come. My Snow-Crab Cocktail was a retro, uplifted version of the familiar 70s prawn staple. Really well done dressing that let the crab come through without overpowering the delicate meat, a zing of citrus. The glassware was theatrical and fun but did seem to want to tip over if I wasn’t careful given its narrow base. On to the main; I wanted to see what such a talented team could do with venison so I chose Peppered wild venison, celeriac puree, roast apples, sweet and sour sauce. Here’s where I feel The Grill takes liberties; at $49 I expect more of a complete dish than purely receiving the protein + sauce. No garnish, and the roast apple being another sauce, it was a very very delicious but also hideously expensive way to experience a beautiful cut of venison. I had chosen some onion rings to accompany as well for $12. The Grill goes for the dramatic thick-cut slices of onion for its rings; while pleasing to the eye these never eat as well as the greater surface volume means a longer cooking time, subsequently more grease absorbed and an oily eating experience. My waiter had helped me choose an excellent red wine to go with this lavish main however, and I was in good enough spirits to choose the souffle to finish which was advertised to take 25 minutes. They weren’t wrong about the wait, but it was worth it. Dramatic and fluffy, the souffle held a hidden treasure of lemon syrup at its base while the berry sorbet to accompany was smooth and fresh. An espresso was just the night-cap I needed. Still a magical place, the only thing I can say is that it must only be a special treat or occasion to justify the spend; sides at that price are to be shared for sure. There’s luxury, skill, but also liberty here. I’m glad I returned.

I give five stars very rarely but if I could I would give 6 for The Grill. The food is absolutely superb, the service is spot on, informative but natural. If dining for 2 for a special occassion reserve a circular corner booth, provides a wonderful intimacy even in the middle of the day. Cannot recommend the steak tartare too highly, there is a good reason it is one of their signature dishes. If you ever want to do the classic 3 hour lunch this is the place

Chefs appetizer was delicious; steak and Mac n cheese were delicious; blood orange sorbet tasty and the chocolate mousse soufflé was flavorful. Staff was efficient and friendly...albeit a bit rushed at the beginning. The soufflé was rushed resulting in half souffle and half not...but still flavorful. Music is loud trying to overcome conversation that a few items ordered were not quite right...a sambuca straight up was heard as a sambuca shot for example. Food deliciousness wins me over to return but those items resulted in a 4 instead of 5 rating.

The food was wonderful and the staff was all kind. The atmosphere of the dining room was good, but the narrow space made the seat uncomfortable and the noise in the next seat interrupted the quiet conversation. The customer has the advantage of choosing the source of the main menu, but the salad must be ordered at an additional cost.

We enjoyed a fabulous dinner at the Grill. When we arrived with a booking we were immediately ushered to a table and our coats hung up for us. Our waiter introduced himself and asked about us and whetjer we were celebrating an occasion whilst dining with them. He patiently explained the menu (the drinks menu and meat selection ia very diverse). When our orders were taken our waiter double checked that he had recorded our orders correctly and promptly served us some amazing bread to nibble on while we waited. Our seafood platter was incredible - beautifully presented with good portion sizes. The seafood was top notch, and very fresh to. Our mains were delicious, and the meat cooked exactly as requested. There was a small hiccup where we received a double serving of beans rather than one beans and one pumpkin salad. But this was quickly corrected and removed from our bill. Definitely leave room for dessert! I wanted to order more than one. Would definitely dine here again... And judging by how packed the restaurant was many others no doubt also enjoy repeat experiences here! (Bookings recommended!)

I had an overall great experience at The Grill. We arrived without booking a table and we had to wait just for 10’ tops which is a very reasonable amount of time especially on Boxing Day. The place offers premium meat and sea food however most known for the premium cuts and excellent choice of wine. The decoration, lighting, layout and furniture is A grade. Very nice vibe. Classy but not fake. The staff is very friendly and eager to provide great service. We started with delicious fresh artisan bread and butter, then had a very interesting Caesar salad, with egg, anchovies and dry prosciutto. We ordered two Angus ribeye on the bone and two glasses of blended merlot wine. The ‘meat library’ has an extensive range of beef options such as Angus, Wagyu of various grades and prices and dry aged cuts from the best parts of the animal. There are some high end cuts if you can afford the cost. Same thing applies in the range of wines starting from $15 per glass up to some rare bottles of $7500. The steak is served naked or with a choice of sauces. The waitress brought separately a choice of 4 different types of mustards and kept visiting us to ensure that we have water, and check if we are happy with everything. The meat was greatly grilled with a crispy dark brown charred outside and juicy and delicious inside. The meat was thick, cooked medium rare with some wonderful pink colour at the centre. Fantastic taste. The wine arrived also in the right temperature. As I mentioned at the beginning it was a great experience overall. If you can afford the expense or planning for a special dinner this is definitely a great choice. Extra points for the classic rock music adding a more authentic vibe —really awesome to listening to creedence clearwater revival while enjoying your stake.

Great food and atmosphere. To start, we ordered steak tartare to share, which is prepared at your table. My mom, usually wouldn't eat raw meat, really enjoyed it, tastes good. Had A Study of Beef:Wakanui Angus Eye fillet, Wagyu Rump, and Slow cooked Short ribs. All made to perfection~~ On the side we had the cabbage & parmesan slaw, duck fat chips, and grandma carrots. Love the carrots~~

We came here last minute for our wedding anniversary and I must admit the food wasnt as great as I imagined it to be, although I do wish I ordered the surimi dish instead. Oh well, atleast my husband enjoyed his, I mean who doesnt enjoy a good piece of steak. 😜 Despite that the service was absolutely AMAZING thanks to our lovely waitress VANESSA, we even got given this gorgeous plate saying "Happy Anniversary" Thanks again for this. If I could tip you individually Vanessa I would have, you made our experience a great one. Thanks again 😍

Absolutely hands down the best restaurant in Auckland. Wonderful table host, knew the menus inside out. Timely delivery of food for a table of 12. Great cocktails, perfect steaks, delicious sides and and desserts. Flawless experience. Will be back regularly. 10/10!!!!!

Came here for my birthday dinner. Had scallops with truffle. Small scallops but amazing flavour. We had wagyu scotch steak and rib eye steak. The wagyu was like a butter, perfectly cooked! Amazing! Recommend the Red wine jus! Desserts were good, simple. The food delivers as the menu says - simple food with amazing produce and meat. And sometimes that is all you need, no fuss! Steak can be amazing just by itself, perfectly cooked! Only thing I didnt enjoy was the rock music. I am huge rock fan but I would rather enjoy AC/DC somewhere else.

Easily the best steak joint in Auckland. They keep things so simple but surprise you with the really subtle flavours lurking in each morsel. Steak cooked exactly as I like it. Good, formal service (which is missing a lot of the time in Auckland) and a lively atmosphere to match. The only criticism if constructive at worst: sometimes service is a bit slow.

Wonderful dining experience, great food, good wine selection. Helpful and friendly staff. Strawberry daiquiri that evaporated like you have not drunk it. Top notch great place.

Simply a notch above its peers. The quality of the steak is amazing and it’s just cooked to perfection. Expensive, yes. Worth it? Damn straight. We’d go back in a heart beat.

We had amazing beef wellington here. Crispy pie down covered and incredible tender deef inside. Wonderful dinner!

We had a great night at The Grill. Our waiter, Luka took us through the menu and made wine recommendations based on our choice. I tried the Duck, Duck, Duck for main. My review is Yes, Yes, Yes. We had our mains with green beans, confit mushrooms, grandma carrots and duck fat chips. For dessert I tried the recommended Apple Tart. It was great with the vanilla bean ice cream.

Amazing Dinner last night. Staff were super friendly and professional. Bar staff made us some original cocktails which were super yummy. Meals were just fantastic. Cooked perfectly and delicious. Such a treat to have dinner there. Many thanks for such an amazing evening.

My favourite steak house when they have short ribs available. Recent menu change means they've stopped doing some of my favourite sides.

Went for dinner a few months ago and took advantage of the Truffle feature menu where I ordered the scallops - very yum and perfectly balanced for such a fragrant ingredient. I have been here a handful of times and always order the beef tartare as a starter. They prepare and serve at the table; guaranteed deliciousness!

Sometimes thing just go wrong, and it's how you sort it that counts. Booked for 6:30 through our hotel but arrived to find no booking made. Next booking was 8:30. But Darren took control and sorted us a table upstairs, and gave us a wonderful night with amazing food, wine recommendations. Really good service. Thanks for a great night Darren. Bloody A class!

Great atmosphere for group dining... only real inconvenience is that you have to walk quite far to use a restroom. Staff are lovely and friendly

The food is undoubtedly good and the place looks great. It gets a bit too noisy when full, but nothing that would ruin the dinner. My wife and I had a great experience overall, but the absolutely need/must highlight was the service. Minsook and Sharles delivered THE BEST EVER SERVICE IN NZ! Honestly, those two are Rockstars! Thanks heaps for them both and all of the team that interacted with us tonight. You guys did a terrific job!

Ate here for dinner on 23.12.20. Normally I don't bother to review unless a place is terrible, but absolutely have to share how amazing everything is here! All four of us (2 adults, 2 teens) had our 'best ever' meals, the sides were lovely and the service and drinks are excellent. This is my second time here and my memories of the first time are that it was amazing then too. We're spoiled now, not sure we can be happy anywhere else!

The steaks are always fantastic here but I decided to try something different for a change so went for the "Duck, Duck, Duck" followed by Crepe Suzette - both were absolutely spectacular. Service was attentive yet unobtrusive, bill was quite high but totally worth it!

This restaurant is an absolute treat. The staff provide a service that is as faultless as the food and our group couldn’t stop talking about it, well after we had left. The drinks selection is extensive, whether you are wanting to celebrate with something high end or keep it simple, they cater to everyone. The steak selection was absolutely amazing, half of our table ordered from this and agreed they have never had better. Side for the table to share means you get to enjoy a bit of everything- and trust me you want to try everything! This is on the high price scale but well worth it for the quality of your evening.

Good place to celebrate a special occasion. Staff are well trained and the service is top notch. The beef Wellington was sublime. Best to book ahead before arriving.

Just had dinner here and was the most amazing experience we have ever had. We had Minsook as our server she went above and beyond. So lovely and charismatic — what a privilege to have her on the team. She made my birthday very special, cannot recommend her/this place enough! Totally deserves a huge bonus and will definitely be back when we are next in Auckland.

One of the best steaks available in New Zealand. Expertly cooked, impeccable service. Highly recommend the Wagu - it’s an experience. Mac and cheese was average though.

Solid steakhouse, cosy setting on the noisy side. Felt understaffed but that could be a temporary covid situation. Food tasted really good - food plating won't be winning any awards though.

Was taken out tonight to The Grill, been meaning to get here for a while. Tried three courses, 'jumbo' scallops, rib eye, apple tart. Overall the meal was superb. Serving staff are clearly well trained and very professional and attentive, our server knew our round of drinks even when one of our party of 6 couldn't remember. We ordered too many sides and she was able to steer us away from just cluttering our table, which I appreciated as she was clearly trying to make sure we had a good experience. Fantastic wine/beer/whiskey selection. Steak was absolutely on point. Grilled veges were fantastic, potato mash was silky and superbly seasoned. My 500gm ribeye was cooked to perfection (not always easy with thick on the bone cuts.) Apple tart with vanilla ice cream was a delight, crispy pastry, tart apples, hints of caramel. If I was being picky, the scallop and truffle entrée at $37 was the weaker dish, scallops were not quite caramelised and no seasoning, and for the price (yes truffle adds cost) wasn't amazing. Overall though, this place hit the mark between hearty food, attentive service, and a touch of refined cooking. Price wise possibly at the treat end of the scale but you don't go to these places for run of the mill night. Would certainly go again, and would recommend to a group looking for something a bit fancy whilst being solid quality.

Excellent food and service if you're a meat lover. Service is reasonably quick too. It pays to book as it fills up quickly though the staff will always do their best to accommodate you.

Our first visit to The Grill. Had an amazing Sunday roast with superb wine pairing . We were served by friendly and efficient staff. The beef was melt in your mouth gorgeous. We had a great Father's day celebration and would definitely recommend . will be saving up for a return visit

At first was abit unsure if we were going to have good experience. ( was slightly nervous due to previous experience at another skycity restaurant). We were 20 min early from reservation but host was quiet happy to seated us down anw which was great. Excelent steak and service. Ambience was quiet good for a quiet intimate celebration. Thoroughly ejnjoyed everything here except the toilet was a tad far away due to renovation. Other than that can't really fault anything elae。The server we had that nite was fantastic, professional and firendly. Cant remember his name. He is from Brazil thats all I remember. Kudos to The grill. We will be back.

We both just had mains, and both had steak. I had the scotch and my friend the fillet - we both said it was the best steak we’ve had in a long time. The wood they use on the grill imparts a lovely mild smokeyness to the beef. Amazing. The duck fat chips were excellent as were the green beans with confit shallots. The service was good, however we did have to call someone over to top up our wine which we shouldn’t have to do. The wine list was also fine, however there is not a lot of choice for a fuller bodied red at about $100. We ended up with a Margaret River Shiraz which was good. Overall, a lovely night and a great start to a long weekend.

This restaurant is one of the best we have been to & we travel the world. The food was of the highest quality & the steak was incredible. The service was excellent. Not always do 5 customers agree on the same experience however we were all of the same mind. We will be back.

Went here for my dad's birthday. The steaks were perfect, the sauce and sides we ordered were delicious. It might be a high price but the food and service is impeccable. I highly recommend it for birthday or anniversary dinners to spoil your loved one.

First of all, if any of you are in meat like steaks then this place is the right restaurant to go to for when you are in a steak mood. Secondly, I enjoyed the food because, I had a Japanese export sirloin that was dry aged for 130 days and that was full of flavour. I can also say that the service was warm and friendly. However, there is one thing I do not like about the Grill is the rock music being played in a nice looking restaurant. Do not get me wrong I like rock music, but I just do not think rock music would suit a nice looking restaurant instead I think something like jazz would suit the Grill itself. Finally, my experience at the Grill was really good and I will give the Grill a 4.5 out of 5.

If you love your steak good place for that. High quality meat. The food was very nice 10 stars.. overall experience was great except for when it comes to hygiene none of the staff was wearing hair net either in the cooking area n the serving area, few staff had beard, saw couple of the staff touching the cheese with bear hands.. this was quite concerning as they were touching other stuff and then left the cheese open uncovered people passing by could spread gems just by coughing or sneezing. To close for open public to pass by uncovered food. Overall nice place n good experience.

So many selections of drinks and dishes but the staff are very helpful and congenial. If you are ready to splurge on your meal, this is the place to go.

Enjoyed a gorgeous meal here for final night in Auckland. Definitely worth it. Lovely ambiance to enjoy the oysters, steak and wide dessert selection. Staff were attentive and helpful without being bothersome. Would highly recommend. Great wine choices too.

The staffs were very nice and welcoming. The little treats they bring out the beginning was very nice. The wagyu bavette was a little chewy but we loved everything else. Excited to go back and try other items in the menu.

I have high expectations when it comes to both steak and over paying for a meal. My husband and I were looking to enjoy a night out and The Grill had great reviews. It was easy to get a same day reservation but we were told we needed to be gone by 8:00 pm. With a reservation at 5:45pm this wasn't an issue but if you're dropping $500 on a meal for two, you'd think the staff could refrain from kicking you out before you even arrived. The wine selection was impressive offer middle of the road selections all the way to 100 point award winners. The steak was okay. I was missing grain fed meat and thought it would conquer the craving. Ultimately though, steak no matter the cut needs a bit of finesse from the chef. The meat lacked flavor and was over cooked. I'd asked for medium rare and it arrived cooked medium to medium well. This girl likes the taste of blood so I was disappointed. The Mac and Cheese was delightful. I also had a side of crab which was cold. All in all I'll try a different steak house next time around but it was OK for a night out.

The best selection of steaks I've had in my entire life. The restaurant atmosphere was welcoming and professional. Staff were friendly and actively engaged in their service. Abit late with the review, went here for mothers day. Even the kids loved it. Best steak I've ever been served. Would recommend to any steak lovers. Well worth the money. You do need to buy your sides separate.. (About $70 meal= steak, fries, lettuce.) Top place.

Went for a cozy dinner for two, ordered the rib eye on the bone and the Japanese scotch accompanied by the chef's salad and a bottle of red wine. The steak was exquisite which is what we expected for this restaurant. The chef's salad is a gorgeous side and is prepared in front of you. This is a good restaurant but somehow the whole experience just seems a little disjointed. The table service is very casual and jovial, the music playing was rock music, the seating is grand with lots of leather and hard surfaces. The reception staff were helpful and smiling but actually paying attention to other things happening rather than the person in front of them. Having to walk out of the restaurant and past hotel reception to go to the toilet made me feel a bit like I was going to a restaurant in a mall but paying fine dining prices. A lovely touch from our waiter and the kitchen who happily made a dessert from us that was not on the menu.

I enjoy going here for steak and whiskey on occasion. They were able to accommodate a group of 14 us recently for my stag party dinner. They could’ve been more flexible on the time slot and we would’ve preferred to not be forced to pay for a set menu but it was tasty nonetheless! I’ll be back someday with smaller group.

Husband and I came here last minute on a short trip to Auckland. The Grill is in a great location right next to the Sky Tower. Staff were friendly knowledgeable and attentive, food was top quality, my steak was HUGE and cooked to perfection (medium rare how I like it). It’s a lovely restaurant for serious meat eaters so come with an appetite!

Exceptional dining experience. We had three in our party and decided to sample a few different menu options. The server was very knowledgeable about the entire menu. Everything from the salad, to the lamb and steak, and sides was delectable. Excellent portion sizes as well.

A fabulous meal and evening last night. Our waitress was superb and so much fun - and on asking had only been there 3 days!! I am sorry I didn't write down her name as I should have known I wouldn't recall it. The menu was superb and will need to return to try some other options. Highly recommend for an occasion out.

Amazing meals! The steaks were cooked to perfection, the children's meals were delicious but the highlight of the night was our waiter David! He was so friendly, so much fun, and so dedicated to ensuring our experience was truly enjoyable 👌 will definately be back!

Me and some friends tried this place during their $49 lunch promotions. I ordered the ceviche for entree and the short rib for main. Both were delicious and the short rib in particular were cooked well. Our waiter who was part Italian/French was also very accommodating of us. Amazing service and great food 👏

I went there for a birthday celebration with my partner and service was excellent from the phone call in the morning to confirm the reservation all the way till the end. The waiter taking care of us the entire night did such a great job, we asked for a wine to pair with our beef selection and he suggested a 2014 Pinor Noir which tasted really good. When we felt like we wouldn't finish the meal, he offered to help us pack it up without us asking for it. They were attentive yet not obtrusive. Of course the beef were excellent, we ordered the chef's selection of 3 different beef and the fillet mignon was medium rare and almost melting in my mouth. The complimentary birthday dessert with personalised message is a small yet thoughtful touch. Good job to the team at The Grill.

Perfectly cooked steak and the miso hollandaise is to die for! Atmosphere was ok and service could have been better as our waitress wasn't very attentive. I wouldn't recommend coming here if you are after an intimate dinner/dinner with a partner as it is quite loud and better for groups.

Definitely one of Auckland's best restaurants. The service and food are impeccable. The waiter I encountered offered some of the best restaurant service I have ever experienced - he was extremely knowledgable. I had the steak and it was cooked to absolute perfection! If you can afford it (it is not cheap), it is definitely worth a visit.

We visited The Grill yesterday (Saturday 15th September) for lunch. We ordered the 240g eye fillet with red wine jus and the following sides: *smoked mash potato, chicken gravy. *roasted pumpkin, cress, walnut, buffalo curd. The eye fillet was mouth-watering, the sides was delicious also. Being first timers we were greeted by a host, waited by a lovely lady and kitchen staff delivered our food as well as compliments from the kitchen. Overall an “Amazing” experience from start to end.

My daughter myself G-baby were staying at the grand sky city Hotel. Had dinner at the grill. It was delisous, the staff made the visit relaxed and welcoming. Lovely chief top marks for the food we ate. Great staff.. Make a visit worth while. Thank you for accomadating my 2yearold.made feel that wee bit more speichal with a surprise from the kitchen as it was my birthday. I look forward to my next visit. Try something else we had steak, smoked mash chicken gravy, portabella mushrooms. Totally recommend. The grill.

Great food, great service, don't even mind the price tag

I'll always eat here everytime I am in Auckland. Their beef, esp the chef 3 fav selection, is to die for. And the slow roasted lamb shoulder is absolutely amazing. I always end with the apple tartin...one of the best that i ever had in the world. Service is incredible with staff who really enjoy serving. I have been to a lot of michelin star restaurants and I am wondering why they are not michelin star rated as they are definitely better than a lot of the ones I have been to.

We visited The Grill to take advantage of the $1 oysters on Friday evenings in June. Really can't beat that deal! But the dining experience was second to none and service impeccable. Will be going back to try the full menu soon!

Food was delicious. Casear Salad great, eye fillet with red wine jus and mash were exquisite, and the king crab I could not fault. The place was only let down by a slightly odd ambiance - tables slightly close, poor lighting, and unusual choice of music (2000s pop rock). My steak also arrived medium, rather than rare, and although I know they would've been happy to replace it, it was delicious enough to not need that.

Not a great experience this lunch time, had to wait quite a while to be seated despite the restaurant being almost empty. Steak was bland and fatty. Sides were good however and desert delicious.

The service is first class, a great menu! First Class Oysters! Wagyu Steak delicious. The Alaskan King Crab is not as good as have had in US. Don't have the main fried one.

Had both the Japanese & Australian Wagyu - actually preferred the Australian but both where great. Service was perfection, Sharles was extremely attentive.The cocktails where made very well, made for an amazing night out

Don't usually go to this price range restaurant. But the food was so worth the splurge. Though note to reader, myself n hubby shared a few starters, they were superlative. But the crab claws/legs that others at the table got were disappointing,bland? The duck fat fries do not taste of duck so if that's what you're expecting avoid the let down. Definitely one to try.

Simply the fanciest steak restaurant in Auckland. Sure, there are others, but this is the fancy one. This place is about the steak, done in a 5 star surroundings. The steak is the same that you will get in other top places - aged, name brand, fancy. The meat is delicious, will be cooked however you like it, and comes in a lot of varieties from well marbled wagyu to tender aged sirloin to everything in between. It'll be buttery, soft, meaty, and excellent - you know that from just looking at the menu. The sides will be simple but perfectly executed. Fries done in duck fat, crispy and golden, butter poached carrot, mac and cheese, etc... all traditional sides, executed as well as they can be done anywhere. The surroundings are what set this place apart. Given that you're eating what is basically fancy bistro steak and chips, the services and surroundings gives the whole thing a sense of occasion. Wide variety of butters and sauces, talk to your waiter for recommendations. Don't skip the starters - they're excellent, especially the sashimi or the pork belly with squid in a miso sauce. Yes, you can get this meal cheaper elsewhere. But the surroundings and quality of execution are great. Recommended for special occasions. Not 5 stars because, quite honestly, for this much money I want something like the pork belly and squid start for a main - I want something more interesting than just steak and fries.

Absolutely blown away by the class and quality of this place! Not only were we greeted with an unexpected little gift of gourmet soup on the house, but were served some of the most gorgeous-looking and sophisticated-tasting meals we've had. From the free side of ciabatta to the multi-textured, crispiness of the wagyu burger, to the succulent black angus and harmonising flavours of the souffle, each dish ordered was of such high quality ingredients and preparation that it was worth every penny! The waiters were artful also, making a show out of the presentation and always there at a moment's notice. Dined like Kings and Queens. Thank you to Head Chef Mr Connolly & crew at The Grill!

Our evening out was spoilt by a family table in close proximity with a bunch of unruly noisy children. Management should have bought them into line, as the parents couldn’t give a toss. Why are kids allowed in here at night anyway? The food was good, not great, and over priced. My chair back dug into my spine (lousy design). Our waiter was excellent but had too many tables to serve.

Perfection! This place knows how to prepare and cook proteins, with delicious fresh sides to compliment. Sir had the steak with miso sauce and i had the market fish. Both outstanding. Also had the duck fat chips, asparagus with hollandaise and cos lettuce with radish. The maude pinot noir was a perfect match to the steak and champagne to the market fish. Service was top notch. Decor is formal and cosy. Highly recommended.

Excellent experience. Menu was amazing. Starters were the highlight with fresh oysters, sashimi, clams and beef tartare. Beef tartare prepared at the table. Pretty pricey, but I would suggest if you can afford it you won't be disappointed. Service not as good as the food but still not bad.

Service was impeccable! Entrees were Devine! Recommend the ribs! However they had run out of two of the things we had really wanted and it was only 8:30pm on a Sat night... husbands steak was amazing but mine was tough and dry .. really disappointing as was main reason there.. left without dessert as ..they had run out... so three stars.

Thursday evening and a walk up with her indoors to The Grill resulted in a welcome surprise of an available table. Grain fed eye fillet followed by a silky smooth floating island made for an excellent meal. Perfectly cooked, well presented & backed by professional attentive service. Great food although a bit slow on the service but the food was great!

Not a fan. The steak had grit in it which made it very hard to cut and chew and wasn't tender. The ambience was nice and you could hear everyone at the table. One tree grill is still miles ahead.

Our table wasn't ready on time and the food had started to get cold when I got it. The place wasn't very busy, so I don't know why they couldn't handle the very basics of running a restaurant. With those prices I certainly expected more.

there are in my opinion 3 parts to any good eatery...firstly the food followed by the staff and then the service. the food at the grill is the best in the country..i have been very lucky to have eaten at some of the finest places all over the world, the grill here in nz is my favorite..the staff will try on every occasion to insure you have the best time possible and that your every need is met...the service is excellent however with any nz business sometimes the attitude of the recent hires could do with adjustment..is there such a thing as perfection? no..but the grill comes very damm close to it

Auch der Hausgemachte Ketchup schmeckte sehr frisch und leicht scharf. Das Risotto wurde spektakulär serviert und hat Beifall gefunden. Wir wurden von der wunderbaren Minsook bedient. Die uns perfekt durch den Abend geführt hatte und uns das köstliche Dessert empfohlen hat. Dies war der Perfekte Abend in einem sehr guten Restaurant
