The food was great. Restaurant ia spacious. There is a play area for kids so parents can watch their kids play while eating (if you are seated on the outside tables). Service was excellent

It was a lovely sunny day so no surprise the place was packed. Luckily our friend had booked a table. There is some confusion around paying to use the playground. We paid the $7 but feel it should be included when dinning at the restaurant. Staff seemed a bit stretched with a long wait to order and for water. The food was delicious, ribs much enjoyed with the sauce, salad and rice. The fish was tasty but overpriced at $37 when it came with 2 mussels, some sundried tomato, olives, capers and grisini sticks. The grisini were a strange accompanyment, a piece of bread would have been nicer to soak up the sauce.

Located beside Whoa! Studios, there is a giant and amazing playground just outside the cafe. There are two entrances, the tuck shop (where they have ice cream) and the restaurant, labeled. The restaurant itself was quite nice with the kitchen on one side and a bricked off dining area on the other with an upstairs dining area. The restaurant is also connected to the shop and theatre of the studio. I quite like the hot chocolate since it was sweet and chocolatey. We ordered the roast pork pancakes to share and I had the fusilli pasta. The roast pork pancakes were ok, nice flavour and the crackling was crispy. Pasta was nice but not that shape I expecting (I was thinking more spirally). We then got some ice cream afterwards, we picked flavours from the tuck shop and it was served at the table. I had the triple chocolate one although tasty, it was more bitter than sweet. I do think that this is a really nice place just to spend some time over lunch. There are quite a few parks inside but we ended up parking on the street nearby. Edit: Portions were a bit small, particularly the tater tots. The childrens gnocci was really rubbery which was disappointing.

Food and atmosphere was nice. Especially seeing the venue used for a kids birthday with a face painter made it feel not as formal and kid friendly.

We have a newborn son so wanted to order some takeout last week, which Google said the restaurant does. When I called and asked the lady said they don't really do takeout but said they weren't busy so was happy to do it for us, which was awesome. We had the waygu burger and fries and it was delicious. They also take the dine find gift card, which was useful as we'd been given one for Christmas. Looking forward to visiting the restaurant in person soon.

Love the interior design and ambience in this restaurant. Our waitress Hine was attentive to our orders and encouraged our feedback both positive and negative. Hine mentioned there is always room for improvement. The quality and flavour of the food had vastly improved from last year, when we first had our dining experience.

We dined today (27March 2022) at lunch time. I would like to rave about the Manager, she was wonderful. We arrived around 12 when they were very busy but she took the time to find us a table. Was great to have our 3yr olds food come to our table right away (we all know toddlers struggle to wait when they are hungry). We ordered the steak, eggs florentine, kids toasti and chicken pancakes. Everything was delicious. Unfortunatley we had an issue with one of our dishes. When we said something, the Manager was amazing and found a solution, going above to make things right. You dont often find that in hospitality these says so we would like to say a big thank you. You made all the difference to our experience at The Grounds today.

Food was awesome, but on the pricier side. Coffees were disappointing. The handmade ice cream sticks were quite nice. The playground is paid entry, and its facilities are quite different from free playgrounds. It doesn't have a lot of free shady spots for parents to sit back and watch their kids. Most outdoor seatings require proper dining at the restaurant.

Amazing amazing food and coffee!! The dumplings and pancakes are a MUST! We also had the brunch burger n fries- yum and of course some hand crafted icecream. Funky deco and atmosphere. Awesome playground for kids including a world class japenese play net area. We were lucky this time to have a great friendly waiter. However bear in mind there is usually always a wait to be seated and service is slow at times. Everything is really spot on, the thing that would take this place next level would be if the staff seemed happy to be here.

Been here a few times already. Serves is always great, food is excellent just a bit of a small portion for mains but all ingredients are super fresh, Excellent deco lots to play for the kids as the outside grounds is perfect to keep the kids playing for hours.

Fantastic location for hosting birthday parties or just going for a family outing, or catching up with friends and family. So many kid-friendly activities, with the studios for shows etc. which are great entertainment. Also has an A+ quality restaurant offering high quality food - and has nice outdoor seating area for adults to watch the kids over the playground outside which is perfect, whilst you have a nice beverage or two! We go back time and time again and will continue to!

Great venue and truly family friendly in my opinion, it had a very open layout and didn't feel claustrophobic unlike in other "family friendly" establishments. The HUGE playground served us well in the good weather and provided the adults with much needed time to ourselves. The food was really good, albeit a little on the pricy side while the staff were friendly but the service could be better. Overall, a really good experience and will be coming back on another sunny day.

This place is nice, they've got attactions for kids while dining-in. But the good stuff stops there. Ordering here is a mission. No one will attend to you, servers here were just talking, roaming around and will just ignore you. You really need to call them aloud just to get their attention. A big let down for a nicely designed resto. Food for me was average, and serving them with a spoon and fork on them is just wrong (id rather have them on the table, covered with serviettes as we already have) after all it is a fine dining resto. The older lady who served us when we arrived was awesome though. She works way better than the youngsters there. Might come back for the playground but not for the food especially their service.

Interesting atmosphere and food was nice. Staff were kind and friendly. I deducted two stars down as they charged us extra $6 for additional dumpling which we did not ask to. We ordered a dumpling dish as an appetiser and the waitress told us it has only 5 of them. We said that is okay but when she came back to us, they would give us 6 dumplings to have three each. We told her ‘thank you’ as it sounded like they will give an extra for our favour. However when we pay the bill it added $6 more (for one more dumpling). We did not dispute but rather disappointing.

Nice to have an upmarket eatery out west. The food was amazing, coupled with great service. The food was a little on the pricey side given the portions. The ambience was amazing. Well decorated with high ceilings and modern light fittings.

Really impressed with the Grounds Eatery, which is in the same compex as Whoa Studios. The carpark was full when we visited but we were able to find a park nearby quite easily. Nice stylish fit out, lots of space. Big bar with good selection of NZ craft beer and a big NZ wine and cocktail list. The food is top notch too. We had the fixed menu and everything was great. Gluten Free and Vegetarian options are well catered for. Service was efficient and looked after our large group well. This would have to be one of the best places in Auckland for families, with a decent kids menu and the big playground, obstacle course and water slide right out the front in the same complex; but do note that you will need to pay extra for this. The playground is $10, or $20 gets you the inflatable obstacle course and water slide add-on. This is per child, so the cost can escalate if you have a lot of kids in your group! There is also a smaller tuck shop alongside the main eatery providing simpler and cheaper fare, burgers and the like. We didn't order anything from the tuck shop, but the cheese burger looked all time and seemed to be popular. The only dissappointment was for such an iconic kiwi establishment to be serving an Australian roasted coffee, and a supermarket coffee at that. With so many fantastic artisan NZ coffee roasters to choose from this seemed oddly out of sorts with the rest. Still most of us skipped the coffee and we went home happy anyway. Well done, 5 stars.

After reading the reviews, decided to visit and wasnt disappointed. Not the biggest fan of Victoria beans however, the barista did a great job. I expected the playground to be the highlight, but really loved the breakfast. Will definitely be back again this weekend. Lovely, friendly staff.

Came here for breakfast and it was just wonderfully quiet but also because it's a weekday and the school holidays are over. Lovely atmosphere with high end fittings; a feast for any interior designer's eyes. Food was decent size but a bit pricey. 2 coffees, one egg benedict and pancakes came up to $45. Would have given more stars if: 1) the price was lower 2) the hollandaise sauce was more generous 3) eggs were taken out faster; not as runny as I would expect for well poached eggs 4) more variety instead of just 3 dishes on the brekky menu and limited dinner options too Service was friendly but would have been better if it was quicker and not needing any prompting to fill our glasses etc. Overall, a great place for coffee especially to bring the children as the playground would be a delight for young ones. However dinner is not recommended. Portions are small relative to price and not all that tasty.

Amazing find in Henderson. Great food with a very upmarket atmosphere. Normally places like this aren't child friendly but this place is. It has a huge playground for the kids (it's massive and awesome and requires you to get a ticket) and you can sit drinking a coffee or having lunch while the little ones play. Highly recommend. We will be back.

Great ambience and large open space. The interior looks neat and well designed. I tried their Wagyu beef burger and it was amazing. Their own made ice-cream was also yum. The seating is really comfortable with sofas. My experience was nice and the service I received was great. Of course, I went during non-peak hours so your mileage may vary.

Amazing art installation by Horuichi outside. The stylish restaurant isn't as pretentious as it looks and has reasonably priced grub. The service is excellent! The food can sometimes be a little bland and confusing (the Szechuan chicken pancake turned out to be a taco of chicken drenched in Hoisin sauce) but otherwise done well.

Just had an incredible meal here, came with a friend and ordered their pasta with a large mocha - best pasta I've ever had and among the top 5 mochas in Auckland. Staff were on point, killed it. Incredible resteraunt, highly highly recommend.

Went to The Grounds for a group farewell dinner with set menu. The place is lovely, food was delicious but the portions were terrible. After reading other feedback I see this is a regular complaint. Menu cost $55 a head. Starter were tomato brushetta (was soggy), which was a half piece of bread and a small folded Japanese pancake. Mains were gnocchi, steak and veges, which came about the size of a normal main plate but was shared between 4 people! This meant we got about 2-3 tablespoons of gnocchi and one slice of steak each. The host had to ask for more. Dessert was a delicious Panna Cota, again 1 dessert between 4 people. This time they provided spoons and expected we would all eat out of the same dish? It was weird that we had to ask for plates (pandemic anyone?.. plus ew). We also joked about going to McDonald's on the way home. Service was attentive but felt like they're not used to big groups bringing drinks and literally yelling out the order on arrival. Granted we were a group of 25 but we pretty much stayed sitting in the one spot. Most other restaurants would have a system to know who ordered what rather than yelling the order at us and getting annoyed that we're all talking to each and not paying attention to incoming drinks. Overall loved the atmosphere, loved the food, service was pretty good apart from drinks situation, but portions were ridiculous which was the main letdown. We eat out a lot and would definitely have gone back if not for this.

Great indoor and outdoor space Child friendly space considering there is a super cute playground, mini trampoline and the most amazing woven maze art/play house (I had the pleasure of playing in it when the restaurant was booked out for a work function). There is a kids menu too. The whole "complex" is designed to cater to medium-deep-pocket parents treating their kids to a fun day out. It does cost for your kids to enter the playground, best ring in advance to ask the rules around that. Food: 4/5 - small portions but very tasty, their heirloom tomatoes dish is 👌👌 Drinks: 4/5 - very good wine list - every varietal is served in its own set of glass, great attention to details. No trace of any celery in our Bloody Mary but it had a proper kick so I still rate it. Overall, a nice treat yourself fare if you're in this neck of the woods

Finally got to try out the new local!Totally loved this place, friendly staff, amazing decor, great place for kids (inside & out), and lastly fantastic food! Only grovel would be that they make the sticky rice with sticky rice & the ham be sliced thinly. The clams slightly on the salty side but all in all, definitely coming back 🤤

I booked a table here to celebrate my son's birthday with a large group. Booking a table was easy, and they also happily catered well to my dietary requirements (vegan, no alliums), as well as the dietaries of others, so that was really lovely. The playground was great too, the kids really enjoyed it. They were a bit hard to get a hold of on the actual day (Saturday) - tried calling 7 times between 10.26am and 12.55am, and nobody picked up. Emailed too, and received no response. I just wanted to check to see if we could change to a table inside, as I had originally requested one outside. I brought along a cake too, which they charged $20 cakeage for, but they didn't handle the cake in any way, and it was left on our table the whole time. With my experience at other restuarants, the waiting staff normally take it and bring it out later with a lit candle on top (and do not charge for this at all). We had to approach the waiting staff for a knife, lighter, and plates for the cake. All in all, it was a nice experience. Will definitely return for ice cream and the playground. :)

I can only comment on the restaurant - we went there as a work party for lunch. Very nice outdoor area, but it was a bit too chilly so we ate inside. Love the decor - it's been done brilliantly. The lunch menu only had a few things I could choose from but I was lucky enough to pick the pasta - which was absolutely delicious. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals. Possibly the only thing they could improve on is the service - it was pleasant enough, but they didn't come by very often to see if we wanted any other food or drinks.

Excellent for families, from newborn and up. 2 ample sized parent room males changing a breeze, and there is a comfy leather couch off to the corner where you can breastfeed in relative quiet if need be. The food has slipped a lot which is a real shame and the patronage reflects this. It wasn't all bad, the vege dumplings and heirloom toms were great as was the gnocchi. The saving grace however was the service which remains absolutely outstanding. We were very well looked after and our waitress was an absolute delight. Frank and honest, attentive and helpful. I really do think they'll turn it around. It's been outstanding in the past and I'm sure they'll get it back up there with the old guard back to give it the polish it needs.

The food was delicious, high quality and flavorful. However, be wary choosing the sharing plates as the portions are incredibly small. Some of our party missed out on trying some of the menu (like the Yorkshire pudding) because there was not enough food brought to the table. We left still hungry and had to stop on the way home to get something more to eat. I'd like to try it again without the sharing plates and just ordering straight from the menu. Wait staff were efficient and friendly. Great decor and relaxing atmosphere.

This place never fails to amaze me and my toddlers with amazingly yummy fresh food and friendly staff. Must visit this place if you are looking for a place to go with kids where you can enjoy great food with wine while your kids have fun. The playground is full of fun things to do, well shaded with sail canopies and the floor is covered with recycled tyres so it is safe for kids in all ages. We always have pleasant experience from here ❤🔥

Great fresh food, with a bubbly atmosphere but not too loud. I went here for brunch on the weekend with the family and had the tomatoes, they were absolutely delicious. Great tapenade, and fresh tomatoes and cheese. My family had a variety of the eggs Benedict which all looked tasty.

The location is great, ample parking on and off site. Inside, the place is epic - wonderful lighting, lots of different places to sit, and a very cool, open kitchen, so you can see the magic happening. 4 star, only due to price, maybe a little above average, but, you DO get what you pay for. Oh, and epic coffee. Spot on!

This is the best eating place in Henderson hands down!!!! The menu throws you at first if you are used to the normal entree, mains, desert style. Once I worked it out (with good help from the waiter) I fired away my order. The whole experience was perfect, from the ambience, layout, to the service and to the food. It did cost me $209 for a couple but that included some cocktails and the huge appetite I developed that night. Highly recommend and will definitely be returning.

Dinner meal- I would rate the taste and ambience as excellent. The only complain I have is that there is disparity with the food portioning. Wagyu Burger is huge, but on the contrary the Market fish is a small chunk of fish with sauce and touch of salad. Priced at $35 there was not much value for your meal. There was no complain of taste, it was full of flavours, but portion size could be more. Can add mashed potato or salad just to give it a little more depth. Also the staff needs to be trained a bit. Your work is not over once you clear the table. Customers desire for desserts and some coffee as well. They seem to leave the table abandoned after clearance. Have to make an extra effort to catch their attention. This has happened with me multiple times I have been to that place

We had a really special time today at The Grounds. Our waitress, Sam, was friendly and attentive. Despite being very busy (Saturday lunch), with lots of families with young children around, the atmosphere was really pleasant. The food was mouthwatering - recommend the pork belly sliders, heirloom tomatos, duck pancakes, squid salad... I could go on. Now I just need an excuse to come back...

Great service.👍🙂 Awesome food.🥞🌮🥧🍧🍔 wonderful location🏡🏰 My experience with this restaurant was really great.This place is located in wide area they have their own parking inside.Such a big restaurant also have large playground outside for kids.Food was really yummy and satisfying.One of the staff member(I think she was manager there) went out of her way and walked us around the restaurant and showed us the large studio inside which is being used for filming.Its a really good setup in there.They have little liabrary section inside. Food was so delicious no doubt on very reasonable price.Only thing I was little disappointed that restaurant menu didn’t have too much of variety in mains.It was basically variety of pasta,burgers or vegetarian meals.However that didn’t bother us as we love pasta and it was so yummy. Thanks very much The grounds restaurant team will be coming back again 😀

The food was good, except the bun of the burger's a bit dry, but place is nice and fairly priced. Location is a bit far from the city centre, but no problem if you have a car. We would definitley go back.

The only outstanding thing of the grounds is the environment and atmosphere. The service is not very pleasant, and the food portion is quite small, and some like the pastas taste quite plain. The pork ribs and salt and pepper squid taste good. Won’t go again just for the foods.

Yee, nice modern place for dinner. Music was a touch loud for conversation within our big group. But food was really nice and they had lots of vegetable options for on the side of your meal. First time I've eaten out in Henderson in years. A nice clean, modern space. With play activities outside for the children, if they get bored. Very kid friendly as you'd imagine.

Our experience today wasn't great. We weren't greeted when we arrived, in fact we were ignored by all staff for around 5 mins, one waitress came up to the counter where is says "Please wait here to be seated" and didn't even acknowledge us. Eventually someone came to help, seated us and told us someone would be with us shortly. 30 mins later, we had to go back to the counter to ask for someone to take our orders. Its a real shame as the food is great and the kids area is unbelievable. I really wanted to be blown away and make it a regular place to head for a meal out with kids.
