I was very hesitant about going just because I'm use to Tony's steak house but....I absolutely loved it! I love my steak medium rare they did great, perfectly seasoned and I asked for pepper sauce and ended up ordering g another one it's delicious! Croquettes were beautiful, crunchy outside nice and soft on the inside. Tiramisu excellent! Would go again.

Growing up my family would always go to Lord Nelson’s for birthdays, which means I’ve been going to this restaurant literally for decades. It looks pretty much identical to how I remember it when I was a child - but that’s partly why I love coming back here. The food is delicious. Sometimes you don’t want fancy restaurant food, you want delicious pub food, and this would be the best place to go. This time I had the Camembert to start which I actually get every time because I think it’s so good & Shaslick marinara: steak with bacon wrapped scallops and prawns. The steak was cooked perfectly and the seafood was juicy and delicious. My partner had the Angus fillet with horseradish cream and he loved it. The vegetables and potato croquet on the side were so good I’m still thinking about them now. This isn’t the sort of place where you get a small fancy portion of food with a weird sauce. It’s one of the only restaurants around that serves really good meals, not too expensive, with a cool 80’s vibe.

The dining area of this restaurant is simply amazing. I really like the olden style windows out front mimic the amazing olden interior. There is an alcove as you come in with an old-style cash register which they use for ringing up the bill. I really like the brick and wood interior with the metal along the edges. The booths were comfortable but I did feel like I was slipping out of my chair most of the time. The food menu is quite large and so trying to pick something was a bit hard. We ended up trying the venison kebab and I went with the Angus fillet with anchovy butter. The venison kebab was three huge cubes of venison served over rice. It was nicely cooked with a nice char around the edges along with the veges. I quite enjoyed the anchovy butter since it gave the meat an interesting flavour and nice saltiness. The option of croquette in place of mash was really nice since that was really tasty. I went with the salad instead of the roast veges and I enjoyed it mostly because it came with a boiled egg. We got the brandy snaps for dessert and they were really sweet and crunchy. The food was quite tasty and the service really nice.

Food was well presented and tasted great. Its nice when a chef knows how to cook a steak well done to med rare as was the case o our table. Service good as well

One of the most classic steak house in Auckland. The declarations and taste never change since this first time I visited 30 years ago. Would like to come back occasionally. The major problem of dining in Auckland CBD is parking.

The place was much bigger than I thought, quite suitable for large group / family dinner. Many choices included in the menu, you can always find something you like among all the options. The steaks are cooked very well, decent sizes. The salmon steak was good, but apart from that, other seafood choices were a little bit weak, I would recommend you stick with the meat choices. We ordered a lot, really a lot-- but we didnt have to wait that long before all are served. So that was good. Overall it is a quite good steak house.

Lunch in Tony’s Lord Nelson restaurant was so great!! I’m so sad there’s only 5 starts for maximum in google review. I ordered daily special lunch, everything was wonderful! Soup and garlic breads, scotch fillet steak was so delicious. I don’t know how to describe this amazing and wonderful lunch!! Staff was so kind, she was amazing!! I’m so glad there’s wonderful and nice this restaurant in Auckland!!

The manager was amazing. The place is beautiful.. Take u way back to 1830s the history al told to u while u are there.. The food was made with love 💯 will refer this place to family and frends best steak by far

A great meal. The waiter offered advice on selections/ combinations. Manageress talked to us about the meals and ingredients. Vegan meals are also available on request

We had Scotch with mushroom sauce and I chose the salad and chips.$39 medium rare Unlike most places these days you have a choice of salad or veg at NO EXTRA COST. The steak was perfect medium rare and seasoned on point. The Mushroom sauce was delicious. If you are a fan of a salad from the 70's with sprouts, slice of boiled egg and homemade mayo then this bugga was on point. The chips were crunchy. Still the same decor from 1985 but the food was fresh and rekindled my pre-Covid memories of just awesome steaks at a responsible price. I couldn't eat all of mine but the son finished it off. Well worth it. Definitely going back and taking some friends. Friday night sneaky steak out is gonna be here for sure 👍 😋 👌

We ordered garlic bread (x2🤤), spaghetti bolognese and spare ribs. All delicious! Great service as well the lady that greeted us was lovely the moment we walked in the door & the staff as well. Thank you xo

Came here for New Year’s Eve dinner with my fiancée. We had such a great time over here enjoying a bottle of Merlot, Malbec and Cabernet Sauvignon red wine - very different indeed. Amazing waiting staff - it was slightly slower before but I can understand with the busyness of the restaurant. The seatings were really great and cosy really remind me back to the olden days. Lovely roast over this restaurant at a good reasonable price for somewhere around sky tower. We had bit of champagne (sparkling wine) later to celebrate the coming new year of 2020. The restaurant was opened till 11 despite it says it suppose to close at 10. Very enjoy the company on this night. It would be great if the restaurant has better dessert options 😀 overall all good!!

Lovely friendly service, interesting antique decor with all tables in separate booths. Food was mostly very average. However the seafood chowder was super delicious, and medium-rare was perfectly executed on the steak.

Love the rustic and vintage decor here. We ordered Caper steak( fell in love with the rich caper and blue cheese sauce) and Scottish steak with mushroom (the mushroom sauce was so good). For the sides, we went for French fries and veggies. French fries were so crispy and yummy but the veggies were quite plain. Customer service was great; staff were very friendly . Would definitely come here again for the amazing steaks, but don’t come here when you’re hungry because the waiting to get your food gonna make you hangry.

The restaurant offers a large and various menu, from salad to seefood, chicken, and of course, meat. Our main dishes were excellent, especially the croquette potatoe ! We ordered a tiramisu for dessert, but I think dessert isn’t their speciality... Otherwise, next time I’m going to Auckland, I won’t hesitate to stop there !

One of the best steaks I've ever had. Service is lacking in so many basic things. Mistaken my beer and I can understand that, but we waited 20 minutes for it. Food pure heaven. Perfectly cooked, but we were never asked by the staff if we liked it. Our bill was $109 NZD and I paid $110 and wasn't given the change back. I know it's not something extremely bad, but all in all this is what distinguishes a good place from a bad one. Overall it's not a bad place though!

Saw the steak meal special ($15) outside on the blackboard and was very happy I went in for my 40th birthday lunch... I love the decor and the uniqueness of it... This is an real old-style restaurant with a very pleasant atmosphere. We ordered steaks, which came with a choice of sides. Wow, those steaks were so good, maybe the best we've had in New Zealand. The side dishes of veggies with cheese sauce and croquettes were fabulous, too. What a find!

Really good food would recommend it to everyone. Cambert cheese was out of this world, best steak ever. Seafood platter was yummy.

I went here about a month ago for my birthday dinner, they were understaffed but still made it happen for everyone. The girl who was alone in front of house made the night very special by giving me a free birthday dessert that was amazing! Food was great too! Will go back here again.

Hi team, I dont have anything nice to say..BUT ! I have the amazing things to say and share.. The service.Dan ( owner) was there and greeted us as we waltzed in at 7 30pm. The beautiful smiling Tony's team made us so welcomed and warmed us with Brilliant service and the FOOD !.. 🥰 NO POINT having a fancy restaurant if the food is not good!🤔 I ordered the sizzling plate of steak..medium cooked, mushrooms, tomatoes and side of steamed vegetables...I think I could have sold my sizzling platter to the others at the table ! It was so good..😋 Great food, great company ( Thanks Boss David, for picking up the tab..😉🤑) Just a tip ( not a complaint) Why didn't the team come back to offer desserts?.. did I NEED it 😉...NO... but I wanted it 🤣...teas , coffees.. lost opportunities.. But then I am into sales..I see opportunities and I act on them... but that's just me Tony's after 43 plus years the meals were amazing and as good as when I had my first steak 38years ago!👵 Thank.you 🙏

We had to change our reservation time due to our plane leaving late. Tony's were so accommodating, and looked after us well, as we had a show to go to. The food is superb. Cannot recommend enough, we will be back for sure next time in Auckland.

Great pepper fillet steak, superb. Shiraz matched perfectly. Pihwa was a great hostess. Friend from Te Anau rated his streak as one of the best he had had in ages! Ate it all and forgot to take a picture... Not that you could tell the perfect nature of the meat from any picture. Highly recommend!!

This place serves great classic food and generous portions. The decor and ambience is like stepping back in time to the 80s, I can almost imagine my parents are at the table and we're on a family night out in the 80s or 90s

It had been a while since our last visit, so we took our young children (always a gamble) for lunch and so pleased that we did! From the moment we stepped through the door we were made so welcome, the girls were totally spoiled, and the food was absolutely delicious. We had a great lunch and thoroughly recommend.

Delicious food friendly fast service but quantities are out of proportion huuge serving of meat mini bowl of salad and small portion of mash. Meal should be of equal quantities especially for the price you pay.

That lamb is just amazing. Maybe on the slightly higher price, but definitely worth the food quality. The steaks are also good with many different styles available. Try the oyster stuffed steak! Theme is olden English within the restaurant and you must check out the cash register. Makes you wanna pay cash. They do take care in case you were wondering.

Just a classic old school Steakhouse. The smell of steak as you enter. Excellent shrimp cocktail and then a Steak (rare) which again was excellently prepared , cooked and presented. I would recommend highly.

A quaint name but with a specialty for steaks. I did not do a count but there must have been more than 20 varieties or ways of making steak with sauces that whet your appetite just on description alone in the menu. I had the highly recommended and popular black pepper steak while my son had the steak Bearnaise. You had a choice of 2 sides with your order. We both had a choice of potatoes (done your style) and a vegetable salad. My son chose the Cheddar Mash and I took the french fries. The steaks were ordered medium rare. It was about 210 grams and our dinner bill was NZD102.00 thereabouts including one coffee and a Brandy Schnapps. Overall it was great steak and just went well with the sides and oh yes we had the ox tail soup which was super laden with meat and tasted super. Great service from our english speaking waitress from Columbia! Here is your chance to test your Spanish and we did. Great night overall! would highly recommend to friends and family.

Came here for a child free date night with the wifey. Awesome atmosphere and even better steak!! Brilliant service and a good quality beer selection. They say they have the best steak in Auckland, and I am inclined to agree.

My boyfriend and i love to have the occasional romantic dinner here. The interior of the restaurant is beautifully regal and the food is soooo yum!!!!! and the vibe is so peaceful and romantic :) For my boyfriend's birthday i arranged with the staff Miss Lorda ( sorry im not sure if i got her name right) to bring a mudcake cake on the desert menu, at the end of the dinner as a surprise and with perfect timing, the Owner- a very sweet lady and Lorda, brought the cake to our table with a candle .....it was a joy to me to see how my requests as a customer was well taken care of. The dinner was really good and i would like to Thank the Owner for taking care of us and making his birthday a very memorable one.

Great steak, the oyster somehow complimented the sirloin really well. Good portion size. Also ordered chicken liver dish which was also nice.

Had the Lord Nelson Rib. Requested for medium rare. Grilled to perfection. Juicy and tender. Came with 2 sides. Croquette was crispy on the outside but soft on the inside. Garden salad was fresh. Waitress recommended Villa Maria merlot cabinet sauvignon red wine to complement our meal. The wine did not disappoint. Overall great dining experience.

Still the best steak love the atmosphere

This place was super busy when we visited it during the weekend. The waitress told us this upfront so that was great. We had wanted to try this place since some time so we said we were ok. Enjoyed some beers before our dinner. We had Chicken Satay with Fries and Garlic Prawns. Both were good. But nothing mind blowing about it. The dessert was very good. Ended on a perfect note.

Had a scotch fillet with wild mushroom sauce. The steak was tasty and cooked relatively close to what I ordered (a little over). The sauce was poured over the steak and was too salty and overpowered the steak. Better to have the sauce served on side. Paired with the house merlot which came in a decent portion and was quite good. Service was good.

Been going here for years, great food, the steaks are fantastic quality and tender. I usaully have whole camembert cheese for entree, haven't found better anywhere so far. Not cheap, entrees are around $12 and steaks around $40 but definitely worth it. Staff are always friendly too.

I adore this place, it is like stepping back into the 1970s! My parents went on their first date here and it's still the same. Come here for the steak! My favourites are the carpet bag and the caper and blue cheese sauce; my sister loves the filet mignon and my husband went crazy for the rib eye on the bone. Cooked to perfection 👌 the veg that comes with the steak is just okay but you know... It's not the main event anyway. Good wine list and just overall a truly classic selection of nostalgic dishes.

Don't take vegetarians. This place is a throwback to Auckland in the 60s decor and menu have not changed, not 60's themed, it probably looked dated in the 60's. They really know how to cook their meat to your liking from blue too well done. They really know how to boil their vegetables till they are grey and soft. Great friendly staff, great meat. Generous portions. most mains around $35 which includes sides.

Wonderful atmosphere, superb service, and everything on the menu is cooked to perfection and very tasty. The acoustics are particularly good, and the restaurant is one of the few dining experiences in Auckland that offer a great degree of personal privacy when it comes to space and noise. Great for a date, dinner with the family, or a business lunch.

We read the reviews before making our choice of where to dine and decided that this sounded good. Well, it was more than good. Fantastic! Started with the fresh pacific oysters. They were perfectly fresh. Then had steak, fries, roast kumara and broccoli. Everything was beautiful. The steak really is absolutely perfect. Extremely pleased with the whole experience. Great food, great service, great atmosphere. Highly recommended!

Totally amazing meal, the steak was to die for, so juicy and tender, pepper sauce was supreme, we had prawn and calamari for entree and they we so very delicious. The staff were amazing, so helpful and friendly, would definitely go there again when we next in Auckland

A must when you visit Auckland. This place has stood the test of time. It’s been there well over 20 years and I believe it still has some of the original staff. The surf and turf steak is melt in your mouth! And the potato croquets are Devine. Check out the desert menu too 😍

Great dinner with great service, managed to fit us in without a booking on a Saturday and had us out in time to get to a show at the Civic by 7:30. To top the night off I left my keys on the table and one of the waiters ran after us, finally reaching me at the Civic to give my keys back. Exceptional service, 100% would recommend, and thank you again to the waiter who brought me my keys, you ran back off before I could properly say thank you!

Steak was good and cooked as we ordered, fish was less than average and salad was just ok. Staff were trying thier best but obviously not enough staff so u should expect a long wait for food and drinks.

Had my usual carpet bag steak....rather disappointed coz not as juicy and delicious as it used to be. Price increased to $40 now. Even the chicken liver was over cooked and smaller portion.

It has its own style of cooking method and staff working there r warm and friendly even during busy time. Tried there a few times already and still very satisfied with thier service and food. Steamed Mussel is highly recommended

Dined at Tony's Lord Nelson twice in five nights recently whilst staying in Auckland. The food is superb (treat yourself to the Lamb Shank if you're a big eater), friendly staff, can't complain about the prices at all. I can highly recommend the restaurant if you're after a good meal whilst in Auckland CBD.

Without doubt the best steak dinner I've had. Awesome food and great atmosphere, don't let the "hole in the wall" appearance from the street put you off.

Always fabulous. Steak cooked to perfection. The gloomy dark interior is all part of the experience.

Having travelled a fair but, I have several restaurants around the world that I absolutely have to visit when I am in that country/city. Lord Nelson's in Auckland is one of those restaurants. Some people might complain about the dated wood panelling and dim, old-fashioned lighting. I find these things add character, and attest to the fact that this is not one of these flashy, here-today-gone-tomorrow chic restaurants of the 21st century. The meat Lord Nelson's gets their hands on produces one of the best steaks I've ever had. There is a long list of steak sauces available -- my favourite is the blue cheese. If you visit Auckland, visit Lord Nelson's.

Despite the entrance, inside was very cosy and welcoming. Charming ladies serving and helping with the bill. Dishes tasted generally good too.
