Met up with friends here for a dinner and some drinks and it felt like I walked straight into spur in South Africa! The atmosphere was awesome, the Savanna’s and Castle’s were amazing, and the food!!! I’m so so SO stoked they had vegan options available! (Tip for Vegans Visiting: ask them for no sauce on the food, I suspect there may be egg in the sauce) My mates and I had an amazing time and the banter with the managers was super classic! Thank you for such a homey, heart filling experience White Cloud Spur! ♥️

This is a great place for steak and many more. We went as a group and ordered different items, mainly steak and ribs. We ordered buffalo wings as starter, but the wings were very dry, and we were expecting it to be juicy. However, that disappointment turned out into happiness when our main course arrived cos it was mean as. I ordered steak with prawns and it was really good. It also comes with chips and onion rings. The staff are pretty good from the moment we step into the restaurant. They sorted us out pretty fast and we started eating in under 20 min. The shop is also well maintained with different african articrafts. The food is a bit expensive but it's worth it. I believe they do have place upstairs to hold a small party, they also have a causal birthday thing where all the staff come together sing a birthday 🎵 . I have seen it both times when i was there. If you are a vegan, no worries, they do have a vegan option as well.

Service is phenomenal 💯 had a lovely waitress who was very patient with us as we had 4 young children with us. Food was amazing cooked to perfection. The only thing i could fault was the fact that they have run out of a few things on the menu ie buffalo wings , bananas for banofee waffles.

Great food! Fantastic background music! The vibe is welcoming and energetic. We had a great family dinner. Kids played outside in the play area (we were able to keep an eye on them through the live video feed) kids were also able to play a bit of fornite while we waited for the food.

Just read the reviews and had a chuckle….. I think you guys do what you do really well ….. food was ace as per the empty plates in the pic. Ignore the moaners …. The owners of the 1 star reviews……. If they want fine dining Spur is not where it’s at …. But if you want mountains of ribs and tasty chicken wings with badass blue cheese sauce ….. yussssssssss you have found it!!!

We had an amazing experience, the food was delicious. The vegetarian burger was devine. I loved the people working there, they truly made the experience. The place was very busy as it was 2 for 1 burger night and despite the staff being stressed, they were SO friendly, efficient and accommodating. It was home away from home. I can't wait to come back!!

First time returning in 3 years... 3 years ago we visited for the first time and we had burgers with chips.. the burger was 'just' warm and chips tasted old as well as the meal not what we ordered. Today, the meal was amazing! Hot and scrumptious especially the the burger mince pattie, onion rings, chips and especially the pink sauce 😋 will def be back, thanks!

The South African spur in Albany has recently changed ownership and the food has 100% upgraded . it tastes like spurs should taste . It taste like I remember it tasting when I lived in South Africa . the staff are friendly , caring and lovely and happy to see you it’s super kid friendly 2 well-deserved play areas for the kids and a Don Pedro for your birthday for free I like the Amarilla one ( probably spelt that wrong) The portions are definitely worth the money please give it a try you will not be disappointed and every Wednesday buy one burger get one free check it out you won’t regret it

We booked a table of 6 to enjoy your Wednesday Burger special. The burgers were great but the service not so much. We arrived a little earlier than 7pm (approx 6:50pm) and our the table was ready for us. First of all the glasses were filthy (lipstick marks that had not been properly washed off). We then waited an hour and 15 minutes for our food. This is the 2nd time we have been for your Wed burger specials and we did not wait nearly as long as the last time when we were a table of 9 . We have never waited this long for food (special night or not) at any other restaurant in Auckland. I'm not sure if it was just a bad night but I don't think we will be in a hurry to return. I'll give a three for the great burgers but you need to up your game with dirty glasses and wait times.

The entree of crumbed mushrooms was yum! The main meat was absolutely delicious, however the sides were disappointing. The salad needed more care, just more prep - the carrots were in big chunks! A bigger serving of the fries would make the whole dish feel generous and worth the price you pay. The dessert of sticky date pudding was ok, the icecream was very watery however. This place would be great with a few minor tweaks.

Ive been in NZ more than half my life so don't remember spur in SA. Food here is really really good, I had the cheddermelt burger. My SA mates I was with said it tasted just like Spur in SA. The staff also sang me happy birthday which was unexpected, so I made sure it was worth their while, too. :P

Wasn't the best service. No utensils to eat meals. Took quite a while for them to arrive. Dessert arrived for kids and after 5mins had to go ask for spoons, as ice creams were melting. Not one of the best experiences.

We were unsure of what it would be like, given the hit and miss reviews but we are sooo glad we decided to go! It was like stepping through a portal and being right back in SA. The food was delicious, exactly like we remember Spur at home to be. The prices reflect the portion sizes so whilst it is a bit more expensive than your average kiwi restaurant, you are getting bang for your buck! Kieran was a fantastic waiter, very happy we sat in his section :)

After a previous bad experience at this restaurant, I was very surprised to see new menus, new crockery, much better service and it appeared that the food tasted even better (Definitely looked much better - pics attached). The table was acceptably clean but the sauce bottles could have been cleaner. All in all, I was expecting a similar experience to the previous times and I was really pleasantly surprised by the changes implemented, it made for a wonderful evening with the family. Highly recommended! We ordered the Thursday special rump steak and kiwi burger, and both of them are tasty! Although the waitress forgot the sauce we had ordered, they gave us afterwards immediately. Btw, the pretty staff in the counter was very friendly and nice!

Big meals with good flavour and great milkshakes, however experience has gone downhill. Food is slow to come out, floors are sticky, womens toilets are terrible, and for a restaurant that prides on being child friendly- there are no high chairs suitable for babies as none had straps still attached (waitress checked), or a leg bar, so any wriggly baby under 12 months would slip right through onto the floor. Not enough room for a pram either so had to hold baby on our laps. Waited over an hour for food.

Spur has always been a South African family favorite, for us as a family and other South Africans alike. We all have our ideas of what Spur is and isn't, but it is a piece of home. To me, Spur is MORE More than a restaurant, also a place where our kids play More than a sit down, also where families sit down together More than a birthday dinner, where it becomes a celebration and the servers join the party More than just an outing, a part of our culture.

Been here twice so far, and it's alright. Prices do not reflect how much I'd value the food. Good portions but expensive! First time when they first opened i had a steak and it was pretty fatty. The picture below is my recent visit and it was a decent burger but not mouth watering. (23 dollars for that burger and chips and onions + 8 dollar cider. Steaks are north of 30-35)

Wow just as I remembered it! Food and menu was the same as any other Spur in SA. First time for me in 11yrs. Yummy! We were there on Friday night and it was very busy. Our waitress was very efficient and without sounding biased, I appreciated it that she was South African too. The place was quite noisy and there was no music playing. On-site parking is limited. Those were really the only things that was a bit of a let down but not off-putting. We will most definitely be back!!

Me and my partner decided to try the White Cloud Spur. When we entered through the front door, we waited approximately 3-5 minutes before we were seated. The person who seated us was a little discontented about her job which did make us feel a little unwelcome. When seated we were greeted by a very nice waitress named Hannah, we really enjoyed her outstanding customer service, thanks again Hannah. The food itself was good. We ordered a Calamari entree with the 600g spare ribs, as well as two lemon lime and bitters. The Calamari was a ok, would have preffered more Calamari and less chips. The drinks were great, its always nice getting a made lemon lime and bitters. The ribs were delicious, they had plenty of meat with a nice basting. All and all, it was above average. We will probably come back again to try the steak.

Honestly the best spare ribs and steak in Auckland. The ribs were so tasty and tender and the steak with whatever sauce they marinate it in... yum yum (can i have the recipe for that marinade?) Keep it up!!

I've had both the cheddermalt schnitzel and a chicken burger here which were really good and the chips were nice. The milkshakes are yum too. I think that it is similar to Spur in South Africa. The staff are nice too.

The meal here was terrific. Recommend to make a reservation because it can get very busy. I did not make a reservation so really appreciate the effort made to get us a table for four! Thank you! Orders were taken promptly and the wait was not too long. Good food takes time right. A small misunderstanding with our order was quickly resolved. We had a chicken schnizel smothered in cheese. Rib and buffalo wing combos and full portion calamari rings. There is ample parking albeit a bit tight. Highly recommended for an iconic South African experience a long way from Africa. Edit - I visited again and had a good time - despite some doubts shared by colleagues at the office. The food again took a while but it was worth it. A reminder that this is like visiting Disney Land. So best come with the right mindset and try not to convert the prices into Rands. A small note on the chicken wings - these are heavy on the vinegar - so if you don’t like sour chicken - best avoided. I prefer salt and vinegar crisps - not vinegar chicken wings. The menu does clearly mention the vinegar. So be willing to splash a little carelessly and enjoy a piece of South African identity.

Awesome if you have kids! Outside playground, playstation and no one cares if they make a lot of noise. Probably not that great if you don't have kids. Very good chips, burgers, ribs. Among the best steaks you can order anywhere in Auckland. I've been a semi regular diner here since Spur opened a few years ago. They certainly had their problems in the beginning, but they've improved leaps and bounds. Last night's experience just highlighted for me how far they've come. The young man who was our waiter is a credit to Spur. Unfortunately I didn't get his name, but he deserves a lot of credit.

The atmosphere and food is always good when we go here. This is more aimed at families with young children so consider that when going. The food was done in a good amount of time so you have time for catching up and just chatting. The sound would be the only complaint as it can be a bit loud depending where you sit. They gave a great playground outside which is covered and fenced so kiddies can play without wandering off. Still keep an eye on them though.

As a South African I was excited to try this Spur. It did not disappoint. The decor was just like the Spurs in SA. The environment was positive and family friendly. My kids loved the play area and there was a heater to keep us warm. Kids eat free on a Tuesday which was a bonus! We had the rib and wings combo with veggies. Average experience overall. The staff were friendly but hard to locate the member of staff that was serving your table. We were not offered any water, we had to ask 3 times for it, then they brought 2 glasses of water between 6 people. They did not come back to take a second drinks order either so they missed out on sales. They mixed up the food order also. They were obsessed with singing happy birthday to every building, happened 4 times during our meal. Food wasn't expensive but there was nothing special about it, burgers were quite dry and chips were mediocre. Wouldn't rush back.

Great playground for kids and excellent meal size and quality. The staff were friendly and a pleasant atmosphere. Only downsides were it was pretty pricey and the music was very loud. The deep fried mushrooms had been frozen because they were rubbery and yuck. The baby changing facilities are upstairs which was a little inconvenient but we will definitely go back.

Good table service by friendly wait staff. Food is good but could do much better with presentation instead of been thrown in a pile. A little garnish would go a long way. Servings are good so recomend each person ordering the veges and another ordering fries and share them. Good for families with things to keep the little ones entertained. They went above and beyond for us and let us bring our own cake. They also helped us remove wrapping papers and plastic wrapped our left over cake. From a 9 year old perspective...the highlights, making new friends in the playground, the bonus was an awesome dinner. My steak was perfectly cooked, medium rare. Portion size; a little too big for me and struggled to fit in the dessert. The main question is will I come back? Of course, I love it.

The restautant was freezing. Most people left their jackets on after sitting down, including some staff. The meals were good and a great size. We went for steaks and ribs. I'd recommend mixing up your sides across your orders. We all elected chips and onion rings, and ended up with a mountain of them across the family. My youngest daughter loved her caramel milkshake and wanted me to specifically recommend it. Very good service from staff. The mark would be higher if it had been a comfortable temperature inside.

Was excited to visit this chain but was slightly disappointed. Food was delivered quickly but was well below expectation. Steak was thin and gristly, mushroom sauce had not even a hint of mushroom and when I order hot veg I expected roasted veges not mashed kumara in a bowl like baby food. Hardly any chips, plate seemed half empty. Also Onion rings were soggy and not nice to eat at all. Had to go to counter to ask for water and glasses. I had higher expectations for the prices! But the Highlight was the peppermint crisp dessert which was DELICIOUS & authentic South African as was the awesome green cream soda. It is Great for kids with nice play areas and servers were friendly.

If you want authentic Spur in New Zealand then this is the official and only place to go. Unfortunately pc culture means we are not allowed to have sparklers in the ice cream anymore, however last time I checked staff still did the singing and clapping bit (hope that gets retained, always a good laugh). Large kids play area [check], half the PS4's work fine [check] and the staff are generally friendly and excellent [check]. The food is expected Spur fare and I have no complaints with the few times we have eaten here since it opened. All In all it's all correct and accounted for with seperate kids menu, kids coloring in goodies on request, South African style peppermint tart, Amarula coffee and Irish Coffees etc. I can recommend if you are a SAFFA..

This 5 Star rating is for the absolutely amazing peppermint crisp tart and the kids entertainment section. The kids love the entertainment and it gives me and dad a chance to relax and unwind. The quality of the food varies from WOW to what the heck? Overall a good experience if the food is not cold and the drinking glasses are clean.

Spur is a South African restaurant and is still considered new so it is expected to still find their feet and get use to the influx of people wanting a good SA meal. Expect a wait unless you have booked ahead and be prepared to talk loudly across the table if you want a conversation. Great place for kids as it offers both indoor and outdoor entertainment for the little ones. Food is average. Been 3 times on very different occasions and different times of the day and on all occasions the food has been of average quality.

Had a fantastic time here. Was worried that the taste wouldn't be the same as it was in SA, but it was amazing, maybe even better! Went there with our 2 kids (one 7yr old and a 10mnth old). Spur need to maintain the value of their food if they wish to survive in the future as there are other options out there.

Coming from Cape Town, Spur was a regular thing for our family growing up. I was wrapped to hear there's now one in NZ. Been there 3 times now and each time I've left with a very full and satisfied belly. It's a bit on the pricey side, but you get big portions sizes as a trade off. The ribs are slow cooked and fall off the bone. They cater for veges and gluten free, but the Mrs has had the vege burger each time now and she's been unimpressed every time. She says it's OK, but reckons they don't put the effort into it and comes out sauceless, cheeseless and ultimately flavourless. That being said the meat, chicken and fish meals are top notch. Service is great and the restaurant itself is nicely decorated and setup. The large kids playground is also worth noting.

I love this place. It does not pretend to offer health food, just yummy favourites, usually with no salad or veges! Yes, not for everyday but most children and adults enjoy the occasional unhealthy indulgence. Their desserts are simple, old-fashioned classics - Yum! Pricing is mixed - pick the value items. For example, double burgers seem very pricey at $29 but calamari ($20) or fish/calamari combo ($22) seems reasonable. Desserts are just $8 or thereabouts. If you haven't given this huge African franchise a try, seriously worth heading to albany!

A bit of an enigma...a very family/kid friendly environment - with a large outdoor play area for the little ones a la Makkas on steroids, video games area for the older kids which is impressively 21st century I guess. It serves generally uninspiring food washed down with South African products such as a Castle beer if that is your fancy. We found the service perfectly adequate - food order arrived in about 20 minutes which suited us as we had three little ones who wanted to play. The staff were polite and helpful but they probably need some front of house management and training - things like providing water and clearing the table, even though we went at a time when they were no where near busy, didn't happen without prompting. Still, the staff smiled and were hospitable. We got a kids cheese pizza that was basically inedible, two kids ribs and chips order that was actually not bad, an order of sweet potato chips that were ok, a burger that I thought was ok but pretty tasteless, squid/calmari rings that were terribly undercooked. In addition the healthy bits - squash and spinach which were passable. Bottom line - you wont be poisoned but you wont be going for the food. I had a Castle beer and enjoyed it and my partner had a terrible G&T that she was told was a Gordons pre-mix (she's actually asked) but there was no way it was and we were charged for a Gin & Soda, $13...bottom line, stick to bottled beverages. During payment my wife was asked about the meal - she commented that the drink wasn't a pre-mix but the staff member just accepted the comment and receipted our payment. Suggestion - if you serve a bottled product, ALWAYS present the bottle at the table - beer, wine or even a pre-mix. In summary, if you have a small tribe in tow, need to park up somewhere, and you aren't too concerned with the nutritional quality of what you or your kids eat, this is not a bad option. That probably sounds a bit tough because Spurs has some very good touches and its probably priced about right for its family market...so 3/5 from us.

Went last night for the burger deal, buy one get one free. Fantastic deal. Well worth it. Last time I reviewed a year ago, I thought the food was way too overpriced concidering nearly everything is fried. But this deal made it worth while. Beef burger was deeelish. Only dissapointment was the glass sauce bottles on the table explode when you open them. Four out of six at the table got splattered sauce over them, there faces and clothes. The waitresses said it was really common and the table opposite us also had clearly experienced it too. Spurs, how about if you know about this problem FIX IT. Change the sauce or the bottles!! It's like it's fermenting or something to build pressure like that. Some sort of compensation would have been good, especially knowing it could have been prevented. Not good.

This is one of South Africa's biggest chain of restaurants that everyone would have grown up going to. The restaurant is large and excellent for family groups. The kids entertainment areas includes an all ages outdoor playground as well as indoor video gaming area for the older kids. There is a wide selection of burger and steak meals and meal portions are filling. Access to the restaurant and parking is good as it is away from the congestion of the Albany mall area.

Honest review here, every Saffa on the shore or nearby are headed to SPUR, crazy queues and wait time. Having been twice i can say the food quality was pretty good and the wait staff a bit green. For those missing SA it's a great place to go for anyone else i would say give it some time to get up to speed and re-evaluate it in 3 months, after the craziness has subsided. Pretty sure this place can survive on expats only as long as the wait staff come up to speed. Don't expect bookings this is how the franchise works in SA people turn up and wait as it's a large restaurant wait times are usually not to bad. Suggest they don't overcook their burgers as much as this is the one point I've always had with Spur. For those missing out on the SPUR experience go ahead it's worth it, we'll see if the novelty wears off or not. There's always Nandos up the road if you want a good meal.

The only reason that justifies the prices for spur is the service we get from Tiffany. Tiffany started serving us in March this year and it was the first time we had a pleasant experience with spur in nz. Steaks flame grilled to perfection. Massive ribs that just fall apart at a touch. Giant kids play area, games consuls for the bigger kids. What's there not to love.

Reminded me of home. Really welcoming I chose the burgers over the steaks. All and all great place good place to take the kids too. Amazing staff.

Great for families. The food is very good, with lots of choice. Not the place to go for a quiet, romantic evening though.

Has been hit and miss for me. If you want a steak, there's no better place. Burgers were a bit average though.
