A.What a neat experience! The staff were lovely, the drink choices plentiful and tasty, the setting incredible and the ambience spot on for lunch and a few drinks.
Loved all the little bits and pieces around to look at and read.
Food was yummy and reasonably priced... only thing missing from menu for me was a breakfast/brunch type something, but what we had tickled the tastebuds and more than filled the tummy.
Great place, definitely worth a visit!

P.5 stars for beer and burgers. Go to their strengths if you are eating and drinking here. Recommend trying a five beer tasting paddle and for the burger the venison was simply outstanding. Moist but not messy, lovely flavours and perfect pattie.

A.I feel bad to leave just 3-stars but I had to because of two reasons:
1) Pizza we ordered was just too small to be advertised on an adults menu.
2) Customer service did not acknowledge our disappointment and try to rectify.
On the flip side, cool atmosphere, tasted great and beer was superb.

K.The food, the beer and the dessert are amazing. Specially the Schweinshaxe, it is just perfect. My husband and I highly recommend this place. During the spring and summer time you have to sit outside and enjoy the beautiful weather and the nice garden.

Very busy Saturday lunch but timing was not bad serving the meal. They apologised and explained before we got to the worry point.
Lunch specials were popular with our family group. The duck or grouse joke appealed on a low door.
So did the 25 percent off table as you first came in . Lots to look at and chess in the garden.

J.One of the best restaurants I've ever been to after 30 something countries and years of travels, everything about this place is exemplary. It truly shows how much the owner cares about this place. Great beer garden and excellent/authentic German cuisine.
L.The bar staff were horribly rude. I asked for the wifi and it seemed like I was asking for a massive favour. The bartender then said aggressively do you want the network name or password? I was like I would need both please. She then said she wasn’t sure and I asked if I could write it down. Next thing we get a pretzel and I ask the server what was up with the butter and she says it comes frozen. I said oh um would it be possible to heat it or melt it (it was rock hard frozen). She said no because it might be too runny???
It’s a shame as our mains were delicious and tasty. I hope they can sort out their service.

Only down point fish was very thin and out of proportion with the massive amount of batter. Will visit again.

n.Great selection of craft beers and attentive service staff. All food was well priced with generous portions. Salmon and steak were slightly overdone but the salads were excellent. Very generous portions of pastas. Chowders were not the "traditional" creamy we are used to in NZ but based on aromatic herbs, nevertheless they were very good.

Owner's response below highlight's his disregard for any criticism and also wrongly claims the pizza was eaten, when three quarters of it was untouched, because it was nauseating.
Maybe spend a bit more time making your food better rather than defensive, incorrect responses to reviews?
S.Consistently good food and service. The chips are the best anywhere. It's our favourite place for a relaxed beer and meal. The garden is a great spot on a sunny day.

A.What a great place for a bunch of beers to taste. German style beer house and garden. Get one of the house special dishes like the Chicken Schnitzel. Incredible value at a mere $16 each! Do make an effort to get there and try!
D.If you want to eat inside on a weekend especially a holiday weekend be sure to book early. Meals are hearty and not expensive, you definitely get your money's worth and what a fantastic selection of beers and lagers.
Only problem we had was not making sure our order for food was understood and having to wait for 2 meals to turn up.
C.Decent pub food with healthy helpings. Your spoilt for choice on the beer selection. The courtyard is a great place to visit on a warm day. It is "kid friendly" so it's not so unusual to see a few families with kids playing on the life sized chess pieces out back.
The ladies who work here are consistently lovely and helpful. It's usually busy but there's plenty of room so you'll find a place to seat even on a high volume day.

M.The best spot in Marlborough. Big sunny beer garden, cozy beer hall, excellent and fairly priced food, nice people. The beer selection is always top notch and they've got a homemade chile sauce secreted away in their kitchen (used on the "Russian Roulette" pizza) that is unexpected and out-of-this-world good.

N.Have always enjoyed eating at Dodson's, good variety on the menu including some German recipes, interesting pizzas and good size meals. Also a great variety of NZ craft beers on tap and sometimes some imported kegs of German bier will appear like magic!
Staff are friendly, service is good and quick unless there is a big crowd. It is a popular place and I recommend making a booking for meals.

J.Awesome bit of European atmosphere in little old blenheim. Really great place for lunch or dinner with a few great beers each time I'm in town. Had the burgers and they are great. The German options are authentic and delicious.
Beer selection is wide and always changing. Having a tasting paddle is always appreciated. The new windows into the next door brewery are a great addition.
Beer garden is huge and great for when it is sunny. Giant chess set great for the kids and competitive adults alike.
All and all great place and I will keep coming back.

It's a bit hard to rate. Great place to drink, but don't expect amazing food.
The choice and variety of drinks was amazing. The staff was great. I'd give 5 stars for both.
Unfortunately the food was not so great. Meat and salads were dry and the cheese platter rather basic, felt like they were just from the supermarket. I'd give food only 2 stars.
To the owner: I find it a bit creepy that you felt the need to add something in Russian for me.
1 Unless you remember us how would you know I'm Russian? Did you google who I am? That's really a strange and creepy thing to do to answer a review.
2. No need to be passive aggressive and call me a keyboard warrior and to do my research. My research consisted of me visiting your place and trying the food and drinks. And I'm sorry, but I did not like it. My salmon was dry and fishy and the salad was dry and had huge chunks and what felt like a basic out of the jar sweet chilli sauce.
I still gave you 4 stars because the drinks selection was great. You do have a wonderful place. And I understand that taking criticism might be hard, but perhaps, instead of spending your energy on arguing with people over their reviews, maybe it pays to listen to your customers?
If the food that was served to us was better, you'd get my full 5 stars.
C.We had a great evening by the fire, drinking wheat beer. Remindered me of being in the Fatherland again. The food is solid pub fair, tasty and was served relatively fast, even after arriving after a large party. Be warned the portions are massive and there was bit groaning from attempting to eat the whole pork knuckle! The wife's spaghetti meal was superb. Highly recommended.

S.This pub on the edge of town is an excellent find. It has a fantastic European themed menu and a wide range of beers and wines. We tried the schweinshaxe (pork knuckle) and the hot smoked salmon and they were both excellent! The schweinshaxe was as good, if not better than any that we've eaten in Germany. The prices are very reasonable and the portions were generous.

A.Went there Sunday, beautiful sunny Blenheim day (still winter). Took some visitors from Auckland out to try something different. Sat outside on the lawn with a very large german pilsner.
Fantastic service, bubbly friendly staff with amazing drinks and food. The pork schnitzel with mushroom sauce, red cabbage and sauerkraut is to die for!!!
Highly recommend to all, will definitely be going back again soon.
