We ordered a pot of steamed mussels with cream sauce and a plate of grilled mussels. Both were amazing but we preferred steamed. It’s soft, juicy and the sauce was just wow. We should have ordered a piece of bread to soak into it.. Nice cheerful hospitality from a guy and a lady in the shop. Thank you so much!

Lovely outdoor seating, good vibes but above all the most incredible food. We knew we liked mussels but this platter was just next level! Steamed, marinated, smoked, three types of grilled mussels, a few battered ones (plus some tartare sauce) and a croquette with cheese, served with some bread to soak up the moist... Perfect lunch before a good hike!

After struggling to find anywhere in Havelock that was open or had any food left we stumbled across The Mussel Pot. Amazing friendly service, meals fast and delicious. Doesn't look like much from the outside but has a beautiful outdoors dining area out back. Highly recommend.

If you have never had a smoked mussel, then be sure to stop by Havelock when you are in the South Island.

We went to dinner early to beat the rush, and service with the staff was pretty quick and friendly. We ordered 2 of the Mussel platters for 1 so we could try 2 different sauces for the steamed mussels - green curry with coconut cream and coriander, ginger and chilli with coconut cream, along with the other assorted mussels cooked in various ways. We also each added the small Mussell Chowder on the side. The dish was cooked well and was tasty, definitely enough to fill up on mainly protein. Would recommend coming with a group.

We had such an amazing meal here!!! We had a mussel chowder and mussel pot with coconut milk and coriander. We could not get enough bread to mop up the deliciousness of these two meals. Service was excellent too and the mussels are the best I have ever had!!! Must go to if you are in the area.

How do I begin? Was passing through Havelock to Marlborough and decided to give the famed mussels a try. Had a kilo of steamed mussels (natural) and platter of grilled ones. The first bite of the mussels was so fresh and I can't stop thinking about it. Came back again the next day for dinner to give the cream white wine a try. Really good too! Friendly service from the wait staff as well.

Spectacular selection of green mussels. We stopped here for lunch, arriving at 11:30am. It got really busy over the next half hour but service stayed good. We ordered the mussel platter for 2 with the gluten free option. They were amazing and well worth the $48. Wife had a latte which was really good also though a bit small. Water is free. 😀 Lots of parking on the area. There were a few wasps flying around the patio but it was a really nice setup. Good bathrooms also. Highly recommended!

Mussels for lunch! After reading all the reviews, my husband and I stopped here to try the green lip mussels. We chose to have them steamed - 1 in a chilli, garlic, oregano and tomato sauce and the other in coriander, ginger, chilli and coconut cream. It was very delicious but we found the coconut cream a little too rich for our taste - coconut milk might have been a little better. We also ordered some of the house made bread which was very good. The mussels were cooked perfectly and the prices were reasonable (about $20 per kg - which is around 20 mussels).

My wife and I enjoy mussels at home frequently. As we spent the night prior to our ferry departure in Havelock we decided to have an early lunch at the Mussel Pot - so glad we did! We ended up ordering the Mussel Platter for 2 - which is a large plate of mussels cooked in many of the different ways offered by the restaurant. This was a great way to enjoy many different tastes, and the platter also comes with 2 cups of delicious mussel chowder and bread. Definitely enough food for 2 hungry mussel lovers. And we now know why the Green Lipped mussles of Havelock are so famous - we've never had such large and fresh mussels. As another reviewer points out - these tend to be a bit chewier, but we really enjoyed them and especially enjoyed the variety of cooking styles and flavors.

Best mussels I have ever had. Large green lipped mussels ones. I ordered them in white whine sauce and twenty were presented in a steaming lidded pot and were absolutely scrummy. There are a wide variety of ways you can have your mussels cooked e.g smoked and different sauces such as coconut cream and chilli as well as the classics. If you are not with a fish eater then other meat options are available. There are wines to complement your choice of food beers and soft drinks. Booking is advisable for lunch but if you get there early in the evening then you should get a table other than this ‘book’. Parking is available in the street outside and seating is in and out of doors. They do close in the afternoon so check opening times. Enjoy !

This is such a fun place. Great atmosphere, friendly waiters, and food was super fun and unique. This area is known for it's green lipped muscles so of course that's what we got. Were definitely not disappointed. Delicious food!

We had the 2 person sampler, which was good value and nice in a way that we could try everything. But everything came all at once, the soup, the salad, and the entrée... so by the time we got around to the entrée, the mussels were only luke warm. 😝 We thought if more care could be put into the serving of the food, and the restaurant wasn't even busy (we went at 5:15pm and there were only 3 tables), we could have a better mussel experience.

Amazing! My mouth starts watering as soon as we get off the ferry from the North Island in anticipation of lunch at this fabulous restaurant. An unsurpassed array of delicious mussel options. Casual, friendly, and efficient service sets a relaxing tone. The garden courtyard enclosed with grape vines is the perfect spot to enjoy a glass of vino with the meal. A must stop in my book.

Was ok, the mussels were delicious, the breads, not so much a bit stale I thought. Mussels would have been better cooked in the sauces rather than spooning over the top. But I suppose cooking large volumes of mussels, as they do, is more viable than individual pots. Still delicious though.

It was a great surprise to find this nice restaurant in such a small town. They are specialized in mussels but I ordered a vegetarian burger that was delicious and it comes with crispy chips and onion rings. My wife got a salmon smoked at the premises with salad and it was superb. The people in the 2 tables next to me were praising the food as well. I was informed they had a separate fryer for the chips I ordered and assured me the sauce was gluten free. The staff could not have been more accommodating and considerate of my requests. Very friendly and efficient service, all the staff were great. They have lots of gluten free options. We had the celiac mussel platter for two, came with gluten free chowder, gluten free bread and no breading on the mussels. The plate for two is plenty of food but it was so delicious we wanted more. It was a wet, windy day when we stepped into this restaurant, the fire warmed the room and with the polished timber floor and the solid timber furniture gave a warm inviting atmosphere. We ordered the mussel platter for two, which came with a bowl of delicious chowder and and a platter with mussels done at least a half dozen ways. This was a meal that I can say with hand on my heart, the best seafood platter I have had in my life. Now, the reason why it's not five stars! When we finished our meal and asked what time do they close the next day, as we were going on the mail boat and wouldn't be back till late afternoon, They said they would be open till five. When we arrived next day at four fifteen, almost drooling like Pavlov's dogs, shock horror, it was closed. I would understand if you closed at 4.45, but to close that much earlier is just bad service

Passing through Havelock we stopped here for a meal with a couple of friends. I ordered a pot of mussels, my wife and our friend both ordered beef cashew nuts and noodle salad. Our other friend ordered a pasta. The mussels and the pasta were excellent but the beef salads were very disappointing. A large dish of salad greens, a few hard to find broken pieces of cashew some quite tasty beef on top and a small sprinkling of noodles. Sorry Mussel Pot owners but the excessive amount of salad, lack of cashews and noodles made this dish miss. Stick to mussels.

There are several excellent options for broth, and the mussels themselves are delicious. Service and ambience are quite casual, but weather permitting the outdoor seating is very pleasant.

We stopped here for lunch because it's the top rated restaurant in TripAdvisor. I'm not disappointed. Ironically, we didn't have the mussels, we don't quite like the taste. But we did have the fish and lamb burger. The lamb burger comes with a unique tzatziki and hummus mix, it's delicious. The fish and chips was standard. Their homemade gelato is okay, not more. Somehow it can't hold itself together after you take a bite.
