We had a few bad restaurant recommendations in the past few days, so we actually came here with lower expectation. However, every single food turned out to be really good. WR Burger, inspired from Balinese sambal matah, was my personal favorite. Their Chowder was delicious. Duck Pancake was yum as well. I can definitely recommend this place to anyone. Service was excellent and the place was lovely.

Made a booking for 3. 2 of us had a wine tasting before main to decide which wine to order but waitstaff never came back to ask what wine they wanted to order with main - bit strange for a vineyard? Thought they would be all about the wines. Shared duck pancakes for entree, we all ordered the prawns as a main (soufflé had sold out) & had cheese cake, pavlova & crème brûlée for dessert. Delicious food! Would have given 5 stars but maybe they are short on wait staff? No-one asks how your meal is going, top up water or if you want some wine after tasting a small portion. Just put down mains & walked away - couldn’t get anyones attention outside.

Took the family last Saturday. I don't often write reviews, but I'm pleased to have the opportunity, because the food and service were excellent. The restaurant was fully booked, and I thought we'd be kept waiting for service, but no, from the moment we were seated we were looked after attentively by a lovely young girl who was friendly and very efficient. Best winery lunch I've had in my two years in Blenheim and will definitely be back.

Wairau never disappoints! I have been going there for 25 - 30 years (since shortly after they opened). Food, wines, service always excellent. It's a wonderful restaurant inside and out. Outside dining is on the edge of a vineyard. What a perfect way to spend a summer afternoon. In winter it's warm and cozy inside with a roaring fire. I have recommended many times and never had a complaint.

Such a beautiful spot! The staff were friendly and attentive and the food was super tasty. Our whole group was happy with their meals and was raving about it afterwards. There is a great wine list providing options and price points for everyone. Looking forward to visiting again.

Our favorite winery. Beautiful wines and stunning food every time along with friendly, attentive service. Doesn't matter what you order, it will be delicious. Recommend the double baked blue cheese souffle (even if not a blue cheese fan), the prawns and always the WR buger. Fries are the best too, nice crunchy bits.

We patronise Wairau River. By choice. Have done so for decades, not because of habit but because we recognize and appreciate the restaurants ambience, the warm service and the splendid food. Granted the menu doesn't change much, but the qualities of flavour and presentation is unfailingly good. Try it. Treat yourself!

This just has to be the best winery for lunch in Marlborough. The food is superb - we thoroughly recommend the Twice Baked Souffle and the Chilli Prawns. The accompanying salads are perfectly matched and delicious. We cannot fault Wairau River - their wines are jolly good too!!!

Being the lucky recipients of a birthday voucher for Wairau River restaurant from the kids,we headed there yesterday,after making a hazel free on line booking, We arrived and were greeted by friendly and interested staff and given various options for seating, as it was windy we opted for indoors. We started with a glass of the lovey bubbles,while selecting a dish. We opted for a shared duck leg pancake,( something I wouldn’t create at home)), delicious, and a great way to serve. We then had the Salmon dish with a mash and a beautiful salad,accompanied by a glass of Gruner Veltliner,yummm. We were looked after by friendly knowledgeable, helpful staff,the portions were very generous, would highly recommend this restaurant. Congratulations to the staff,and well done with the management of the COVID situation. Thankyou

Tl;Dr - good white wine, great staff and a chicken burger to die for! This place has a great atmosphere, sits quite a few people and their staff (winery and restaurant included) whilst being absolutely lovely, are a family owned business. This is such a nice touch and rightly so, are very proud of it. We bought their summer Reisling as we are suckers for sweet wine but also loved the gewurztraminer as this also has a very sweet underlying taste whilst still being closer to more of a white wine body. 8/10 on taste and I actually don't like white wines. Now let me tell you about their food: the WR chicken burger was recommended to us as 'a burger to die for' by the lovely couple over at wine tours by bike just round the corner and it didn't disappoint! It was smooth, crispy succulent and was paired with great toppings. Try it you won't be disappointed. Their chips were also superb and crunchy with a soft inside. We tried the chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream and were very pleased. It was moist, not too crumbly and best off all, not too sweet which usually can make brownies harder to finish. Great job Wairau river!

The mussel chowder and WR Burger were amazing. This is a nice spot to get a good meal on the tasting trail. It does seem to get a bit noisy and crowded compared to other local spots, though, and the tasting room was pretty chaotic when we were there.

The food and wine we had for lunch was simply amazing, I had the chilli prawn dish and salad, I can honestly say both our meals were delicious and mine was one of the very best lunches I have eaten. The accompanying wines were perfect as well. Maureen our host was also excellent, lovely personality and very knowledgeable about both the food and especially the wines, plus she advised a couple of wineries close by that weren't on our list, and both were exactly correct for our tastes which we discussed with Maureen and her advice was spot on, we sent a case from each vineyard back home, free courier to Auckland.

Food was great, grounds are stunning. The only reason this place gets 3 stars was the tasting with Virginia was absolutely dreadful. I am a Sommelier by trade, and have visited dozens of wineries in my time, and I have never been treated so rudely by a representative of a winery before. Felt nearly ignored throughout the process, and the answers she did give to our questions were short and un-informative. O=the answer to one of my questions about the use of whole cluster fermentation was "I don't know, I don't make the wine". Thanks Virginia! They could have a machine pour the tastings and do a better job!

Delicious food! Family friendly. We called ahead to ask for a highchair and it was all sorted when we arrived. We booked inside because of the baby, but they have lovely outdoor options on a nice day too. A delicious lunch for the team of duck pancakes, Prawns, Chicken burgers, great wine, coffee & desserts. Isabelle loved crawling around on the softest grass in Marlborough I reckon! Its given me lawn envy. Thanks team Wairau River, we will definitely be back again soon.
