3 things: 1. The issue of lots of empty “reserved”tables as stated on previous reviews of the place. Personally, I came here for two reasons: oysters and the VIEW. There were loads of empty “reserved” tables by the window and only 2-3 tables were occupied at the restaurant and we were placed by the door. Like, really?? I would not mind if it was busy. But even after we’ve left, the tables were still empty. Makes me wonder if it’s too hard for them to allow customers to sit by the window, and informing them ahead that the said table is reserved (for example, 5pm) and if they could transfer or leave before that time. 2. Came here knowing bluff oysters were not in season yet, and I was prepared to have fried ones cooked from frozen. However, bluff oysters were not available, they only have pacific ones. Which wasn’t a problem since I love freshly shucked raw pacific oysters with lemon. In fact, what they served us was amazing. 🦪 Just be aware, that you will still pay the same price wether it’s bluff oysters or pacific oysters available in the menu. 3. The service. It was good, but I just wish that they will be more careful in serving guests. One staff initially served our drinks to the other table. I know, coz I saw it and there were only 2-3tables occupied. In this time of pandemic, I am and will be very concerned if another customer had already touched my drink. It was hot (outside and inside) and we enjoyed a cold refreshing drink. On the bright side, they have a good selection of food and drinks- they have beer on tap. They have a cafe too. Make a booking ahead to get the best seats. They have staff shortage so they might limit their guests and/or expect some delays. Toilets are clean, and they have a mini lounge while waiting to be seated. Take note of the entrance and exit. The door you see at the front is actually the exit. The entrance is at the rear side. Vaccine pass required upon entry.

Friendly and efficient service. Ordered a dozen oysters ( they were delicious) which arrived promptly despite being warned that food may take an hour. The dining room was far too warm which was uncomfortable (it was 22 degrees C outside) Great views out over Stirling Point. Lots of vacant reserved tables! Recommend that you book in advance if you want a window seat.

It is very much time to say Thank You for all the great Lattes I was blessed with at your place! The location proves to be not only beautiful, but perfect for very special experiences! Each and every one made my day and I would come back for them any day!

Nice coffee and meals, great view during the day. The staff took quite a while to attend both times when I waited at the “please wait to be seated” sign (both at lunchtime and dinner time), but once I was seated at the table the staff were great, friendly and attentive. Our meals came out pretty quickly which was awesome. Delicious fresh seafood. I’ve seen mixed reviews on here from recent times but my experience was overall pretty good ☺️

We had to eat at this restaurant when we visited Stirling Point to sample the world famous Bluff Oysters. The restaurant was busy the day we arrived. We had no reservations, and by the time we arrived, they had sold out of fresh oysters. We returned the next day with reservations and were treated to some of the most amazing and delicious raw and fried oysters that I have ever eaten! Definitely check Bluff Oysters off list when you are on the South Island! I gave this restaurant 4 stars because the service wasn’t fantastic (just OK) and the prices seemed a little high. I guess that since it is popular with tourists, the prices are comparable

5 stars as the view whilst eating was amazing. The food met our expectations and the service was efficient . Yes I would gladly go again even with longer for our food delivery which we understood as most businesses ate running with fewer staff. A credit to this establishment.

Couldn't get a table, lucky our friends were there and we were able to get their table ad they left. sitting there the place was pretty empty tho? That aside the food was absolutely delicious, had to wait a little but was worth it. Staff were nice too

Well I must say I was impressed with the food and the magnificent view while at lunch with family on the 4/1/22..The restaurant was extremely busy when we got there but were advised of them being short staffed however the wait was minimal and the table service very pleasant.I actually felt sorry for the staff as there were some rather disrespectful and demanding customers while we were there.Thank you for a great lunch. Will definitely be back..

Most stuff we ordered were great! Not a huge fan of the famous oysters thou, although it costed us the most. Maybe it’s just our problem, we just like those in Havelock a lot better! Be aware that they have a rather large portion size.

Delicious food, and friendly welcoming staff. When we turned up without a reservation we were warned there could be a bit of a wait, which we were fine with because the view was so lovely! but our meals were served within half an hour and were absolutely delicious 😋

The Oyster cove no doubt is in an awesome spot with great views of bluff and the trawlers coming in . The food that we had was 5 star as we really enjoyed our food many thanks to the chief What spoilt our over all experience was the non-existent food service. Management need to raise the bar I know it’s just bluff it’s not what people expect when visiting . I stood at the cash register looking for a table. Just being ignored. A quick acknowledgement I’ll be with you soon sir as others wait staff ran around . Food service there is none once the food is put on the table you are on your own . Paying for your meal no one asked us how our meals where other than adding the bill up . A good restaurant starts with the maitre d’ wait staff the food and the location to create a memorable time . Sadly Oyster Cove need to address there food service

We don't often go to places like this but the waitress are very bright and friendly. Food wise... its really nice very appetizing and I love the presentation of it. The place really sets the mood with the amazing view of the ocean and the style of the building its very nice

Stunning views, friendly service and amazing food. We were even lucky enough to watch a large pod of dolphins meander out of the bay. Hope to head back during our stay and try the seafood platter.

Incredible food... Drunken prawns as entree.. Wow... Foveax Strait Seafood as main... Incredible, lovely, well presented An amazing view out to Dog Island, Stirling Point, Ruapuke Island, Stewart Island, you have to eat here! Do it! Joel, our waiter, did an incredible job of looking after us, thank you Joel for being so good at your Job!

Differing change of ownership and names over the years and quite frankly I have had mixed thoughts and experiences here over the years also. But not having been back here for a number of years I thought I'd give it another go on 8th Feb 2021. I was quite pleased and surprised. Service and the whole experience a bit better than those in the past. I wish I new the names of the young ladies doing the tables as they were excellent and well worth commending. The food - I had the seafood chowder and a side of prawns - was fantastic. The others I was with all had differing dishes and all rated highly. Not the cheapest place but money well spent. I'd be more than happy to come back here. ⭐⭐⭐⭐

We booked a table for 11:30 lunch and when we arrived early, we were promptly shown to our lovely table beside the window. We were given time to look at the menu and gaze out at the amazing views. We settled on the Seafood Chowder and a Seafood Salad. We asked for the soup to be served first and it duly came with minimal wait. The Seafood Chowder was simply lovely. It had chunks of seafood is a thick chowder broth tinted with a touch of some magic stuff that made the both smooth, tasty and flavourful. The seafood salad was also very beautiful to look at and tasty to eat. Have a look at the photos and see how yummy and presentable to food was. To top this off, the service was excellent.

Nice view, a good place to eat oysters. But I was hoping the oysters alive, but only fresh.

The place is so lovely, the service is good, but the food is quite simple. Maybe fish and sea options are better, but the chicken and beef hamburger meat does not have any flavour. A little bit of salt or marinate should be great!! Even though one near table asked for fish and oysters, and that smell really good! So my guess is that taste the same.

Yum!!! We got the seafood platter, was definitely to much food for 2 people but wow 👌 awesome service too and you can't beat the view.

Loved our lunch here. A highlight of our Southland roadtrip. Fantastic service. Do trust the staff to make the best iced coffee ever. And just wow wow wow to the blue cod fish and chips which were awesome. Definitely put aside some time to stop a while and share a meal with these stunning views!

Had a trully wonderful lunch enjoying seafront view. Only downside was no mussels and no seafood platter- wasn't available, would have given 5 stars otherwise the meal was very good. Still recommend

First time to Bluff and had lunch here. The fisherman's platter was beautiful but very pricey. The paua was delicious. Overall it was a beautiful meal and woukd highly recommend it to anyone.Was a lovely experience.

This place has an amazing view. Problem is they book out all their tables for lunch and everything is reserved. We were allowed at one table as the reservees hadn’t arrived yet, but were told when they did we would have to move. We saw several customers turned away due to lack of other tables. Frustrating as most of the tables very empty with ‘reserved’ signs sitting on them. Definitely book ahead. Don’t roll up and expect to get a seat.

I am a huge oyster lover. I travel a few hours out of my way to get Bluff oysters and the Cove nailed it! The service was wonderful and the plate was outstanding. My dozen oysters came with salad and fries. Fixing for the oysters as well. I would make this a must stop. Sitting on Sterling Point also contributes the the view of the place.

Very good meal, great view. Had seafood salad was very good, others on table had chowder very nice. Service was good but waiter did apare to have trouble with the tablet to take our order.

Best oysters and wedges I've had. I don't even like seafood but these were really well prepared. Beautiful food with a stunning view of the coast. We saw seals from our seats. You can park on the hill. The desserts were tasty and looked stunning on the plate.

Seafood cream soup is very good, milk is very strong, highly recommended. Seafood salad is also good, personal feeling is better than seafood platter.

I recommend the Pork Belly. It was the best meal that I have had when dining out. Staff were friendly and helpful, restaurant was clean and I loved the view of the sea.

They serve fresh and juicy oysters and seafoods. It's locating at the end of the peninsula but worth visiting there. Local oyster is not served in the summer season, unfortunately..

The oyster isn't exactly the freshest I've eaten but the Foveaux Seafood Chowder is really really good, with many ingredients inside, it was definitely worth it!

Was a bleak and miserable day when we visited but the food was tasty and warming. Definitely a strong seafood theme to the menu. Would be good to visit when weather is better. Was v busy, staff were friendly.

It was our first time visiting and checking out Bluff, and it did not disappoint. Absolutely gorgeous views and Oyster Cove is well worth a visit. It was a super hot day (30+) so after a walk in the morning we headed for a cold drink. Great range on menu (did not eat there) - but noticed there was a very good selection of seafood options - which you would expect in Bluff. Check it out if you are down in Bluff, amazing views from the restaurant.

We had the seafood platter, whilst the serving was very generous, I’m not too sure if I’ll ever have it a second time. Bluff oyster was out of season so it was substituted with Pacific Oysters, which was fine but it wasn’t stuck cleanly? Some of the parts were still stucked which I’m not used to having. They were fresh tho, don’t get me wrong. The salmon was overcooked which was really disappointing. We were expecting them to be much better. The blue cod was amazing. Would have it as a main itself. Mussels were average, I would prefer my regular blue lipped mussels compared to these but each to their own preferences. I just find these ones a bit chewier than my likings. We did finish it within 2 people, but would recommend a third person.

This was a most excellent lunch time dining experience. Good menu choices served well and to "cap" it all off, fabulous view. One minor improvement could be a slight lower level of background music - but I acknowledge that "volume" is a rather personal choice. Thanks- we enjoyed our visit very much.

Parking available up above the restaurant. Well sign posted. Walk into fresh fragrance and music playing in the reception room. Then move into the restaurant itself. Setup in a half circle to take advantage of the views. Huge glass windows looking out over the ocean. Each table has a view. The staff friendly and professional and able to handle odd requests without pause. Now let's talk about the food. Tasty. Well presented and to the table in a timely manner. Oyster menu and wide variety of foods and drinks but not overwhelming. Over all a great place to return to.

We had booked, but very long delay in service. The meals were good when they arrived, but it was 1hour plus wait.. not a lot of communication re delay. The scenery and outlook was stunning.

Food was great and view is stunning!

Good food, rather expensive and slow service. Walked in and was busy so we had to wait to be seated which is fine! However, we were not acknowledged the whole time and the friendliness/service of staff was below average. There was a dirty table next to us the whole (at least) hour we were there that wasn't cleared so (just an example) the staff were very slow and didn't really seem to care too much. Quite pricey too, $60 for a dozen. Overall it was beautiful food, but the standard of service was just average.

Although it was a very busy period being the Christmas holidays, we managed to get a spot outside instead. The views were amazing. The seafood average. I had the risotto and it was undercooked and the taste quite bland. I expected more for a place like this. I don't know if this day one of the main staff (possibly manager) had a bad day or was sick of turning customers away as they were so busy apparantley but she wasn't very "customer service extraordinaire".

Went there in December 2019. Had a muttonbird meal for lunch, was very dry and really salty, also the service was so long......waited 45min to 1hr.

Enjoyed the amazing view and food was excellent! We had the seafood risotto and seafood chowder and they were really good. Kudos to the staff who were working during holidays so were a bit short-staffed for the amount of customers walking in. Place was on the pricier side but understandably so.

Surrounding where nice and clean. Had the lamb shank rated this a 4 as it had dried out on parts of the shank. We did not get asked to see a desert menu nor at anytime did we get asked if you would like a drink... on these to things I rate 0. Business wise out on 2 glasses of wine & deserts.

Lovely view and setting. Staff pleasant. Had the chowder, our 1st in NZ and maybe they do it differently here but it was basically a roux with some seafood thrown in. There was plenty of seafood so that’s a bonus. It was served with “ciabatta” that certainly wasn’t ciabatta, from a texture point of view however that may just reflect that I think they may have tried to make it themselves which is to be commended (rarely do places make their own breads, and ciabatta isn’t an easy one). Roasted veg as potato and kumara with a few flecks of kale, not really what I expected but still enjoyable. In summary, not what I expected but pleasant enough, probably wouldn’t go back in a hurry.

Love the oyster! It's a busy restaurant, some customers was not able to grab a table but I do. Yeah! The staff was amazing, she gave me a table near to the window, I am very enjoyed the drinks and the meal!

Unbeatable seaview! The seafood chowder was the best we have ever had!

The best thing about going to Bluff was this place, absolutely loved the food, ambience and the staff were friendly. The Blue Cod was so fresh it melted in the mouth, the breads were so fresh and tasty. Definitely recommend going to this place if you visit Invercargill and Bluff!

Food was good, even tho it's not an oyster season, we were offered more mussels instead. Restaurant was busy and it took some time to cook but we enjoyed the view and wines in the meantime 😊

Let's start it off with the view from the place, it's magnificent. I was there for lunch, and I had a 1/2 dozen of grilled oysters, it came paired with a wee salad and some chips/fries. The presentation of the food and the price were fair when you put into consideration the location where you're having it. Staff were friendly and overall well informed of the menu and specials of the day. I gave 4 out of 5 stars, because the food was good, but wasn't 5 stars yet. The iced mocca I ordered was more of a Cold mocca than an iced one. And while I was still chewing my last spoonful of salad one of the waitresses asked if I wanted my plate removed (plate was empty, but I had literally just put the last bite on my mouth), I'll consider that that happened only due to perspective from were she was standing though.

I ordered fish cake and i got 4 fish cake balls. The rest of the plate was filled with salad. Fish balls tasted not bad they were crispy but the crumb was a bit hard at the same time.

Great place to visit if you're in Stirling Point, Bluff. The service is friendly and the seafood is great. We got the large seafood platter and it was more than enough for the 2 of us. You can taste the freshness in the shellfish, however can't say the same for the fried bits. But hey, still worth it. Great with a Scot's craft beer!!

A nice place for a meal. We booked a table but when we arrived they couldn't find our booking however we were shown to a table. We ordered our meal's which came out quickly and they were delicious. I think for what was ordered was slightly on the pricey side. 2 adults and 1 child $85 . Having said that I would go back as the food was amazing.

Great spot to get out of the wind and weather. Staff were friendly and polite. Food and drinks are well overpriced in my opinion. Meal was average at best

This cafe exceeded my expectation. I ordered the sea food platter, the food tasted fresh and was well presented. If you share a photo of your meal on a 'social media' platform they give you a free coffee. The coffee was a nice addition, however they could improve on their coffee presentation. Overall a lovely cafe, the views are absolutely fantastic, one of my favourite outlooks from a cafe in NZ. I certainly will be back.

Awesome place. The views of the sea are marvellous. The food is delicious. The seafood in particular is too good. The staff are very courteous. Ensure that you have a booking before hand to avoid disappointment. They visit to Bluff is incomplete without having lunch here.

Oysters were pretty good. Steak was chewy and seafood risotto wasn’t cooked through all the way. Expensive!!

Great food & a very smiley waitress.

Very beautiful location and view and the restaurant was lovely, clean, and warm. We had the Seafood Platter and Paua Cob Loaf which was excellent however some of the desserts we had could've been better - best dessert was the blueberry cheesecake, very yummy. All in all it was a very good experience and I would like to go again the next time I'm in Bluff to try their other dishes.

Oyster Cove is the best place to enjoy Bluff oyster with wonderful ocean view. Staff were very polite and welcoming and the food and wine also were perfect. We ordered seafood platter and were very happy to have this awesome menu :)

Very nice building overlooking the Bluff. Excellent oysters, some of the best I've ever had- meaty firm and flavourful without being too slimy. Friendly staff and good selection of other foods. A little pricey, but makes sense because of the prime location.

No longer the amazing place it was a year ago. We used to go monthly but stopped last year when the food, menu and service changed for the worse. We re try periodically but the food, and the feel of the place has declined to the point we won't be trying it again. Most of our meals last week were made from defrosted packet chicken schnitzel or fake chicken wedges, not 'house crumbed' fresh chicken. The squid was out of a packet and the seafood risotto was not edible. Why the change Oyster Cove? It used to be such a treat to come down for a meal!

I love the new menu. As a local I have dined lots of times. But this new revamped menu is just fantastic. And the staff are very welcoming. I read so many good reviews on this place and was hugely disappointed. We did make the mistake of not booking a table but after waiting for over an hour for the table I thought it would be worth it. Sadly not. The food was pretty average and the service wasn’t great.

Fantastic view, good Food. love the salmon.

Excellent views of the sea as the restaurant is curved to maximise the view. A good place for a cake and a coffee after a walk along the coast or up the hill. The evening meal that we had was OK. Very friendly service and is now open regular hours since having new ownership a couple of years ago. Worth visiting and enjoying the view.

Been there for lunch and loved the food and the service. Even it was a busy day they sort a table for us by the window in a timely manner (I definetely recommend booking in advance). Hats off to you guys!

The position of this restaurant is mesmerizing you can get lost out on the water. The food is top of the range in my taste. I intend on going there often just to go through the whole menu. The wonderful people who work in this delish environment reflect the flow of the ocean. I could not recommend a better restaurant in southland as yet. 👍

Really nice place with great food. However why they choose to vacuum right as we sat down to eat is beyond me. 1) Very noisy/annoying and 2) Gross watching dust being kicked up.

Oysterstastic. The best dozens oyster I have ever had and also very yummy Stewart Island mussels. my partner had blue cod. He also loved it. We both will definitely come back. From Oxford.

My grilled oysters with manuka bacon & the creamed paua cob loaf was perfectly delicious & the dining experience was complete with an equally delish creme brulee with summer fruits.....yummo!!!

Visit Stirling Point a landmark at the southern end of the New Zealand Bluff. Enjoy a wonderful meal at Oyster Cove while you watch the Ferry head out to Stewart Island.

60$ per dozen; sparkling are Landauer and Deutz... if you charge twice as much as in Auckland why not bother bringing good sparkling 🤷🏽‍♀️ Doesn’t worth travelling

They should serve smaller meals, beautiful and delicious but a lot of wastage went to the kitchen.

A sad thing about NZ the price of coffee. Oyster Cove charged extra £160 for taking away and paper cup. Mental money mizing I find hard to swallow and leaves the coffee tasting as cheap.
