J.Delicious. Sweet and sour pork is a go to, as is the fried chicken on waffles with maple syrup. Yum!
M.Absolutely amazing! Just moved into the area and wanted something quick and easy. The lady behind the counter was enthusiastic about everything so it was a delightful change to the usual. I got the Sweet & Sour Pork on rice and it was to die for. It was a bit pricey but the container was stuffed full with SO MUCH MEAT as well as a lovely helping of rice and veggies. Would 100% recommend to anyone wanting great food at a great price

C.Very nice food, we love their Crispy chicken and noodles. Deep fried squid is my favorite. The price is cheap and the servings are large. We normally got the take aways at weekend then we can enjoy and relax. Very friendly owner, will recommend to friends.
a.Where should I start?
First of all, the staff are friendly and enthusiastic, they are hard workers who make delicious food.
Secondly, the food here made by the owners are unique and tasty, especially their Fried Chicken. The Fried Chicken is only $3.80 and you get a very big piece of chicken. The batter is crunchy and is flavored perfectly.
Lastly, the kid behind the counter is very nice. He is a fan of a netflix show called Peaky Blinders, and I have to say so myself, the show is very good. Him and I have very much in common. If you are reading this we should become friends :))

F.Right so I decided to give this another try after it had new owners, and I did not regret it! To start with I broke all the rules for ordering from a Chinese takeaway and I ordered a couple of dishes that were not on the official menu, I am happy to report I was not over charged and the food was exactly what I was hoping for. This is pretty traditional New Zealand Chinese takeout with some really nice flavors.

I recentlty went to this shop and ordered the Sweet and Sour pork on rice, the fried chicken, and the spicy chicken nibbles. Firstly the sweet and sour pork on rice tastes absolutely divine. The great crunch when you bite into the pork with that succulent sweet and sour sauce. It tasted great but a bit too sweet for my savoury tooth. A good 8/10 in my books. Next the fried chicken. This is Avonhead Chinese Takeaways signature food. $3.50 for one piece which is the size of your hand and 10 for $30, WHAT A DEAL! The chicken was juicy and seasoned perfectly. Also the crunch when you first bite into that beautiful chicken sends you straight to heaven. In my opinion this is superior to the Colonel and a 9/10. Now lastly WOOOOO the legendary spicy chicken nibbles. This is a must get from Avonhead Chinese Takeaways and is the best thing on the menu. They should call this chicken space chicken because it is OUT OF THIS WORLD. Firstly $6 for 6 chicken nibbles! This is the best deal for food that you can get in Christchurch. If you are stuck on deciding what to order at Avonhead Chinese Takeaways get this. The beautiful fry on the nibbles, the crunchiness and the AMAZING flavour make this the best nibbles I have ever had and the best you'll have if you ever get this. I give the spicy chicken nibbles an 11/10 words can't even describe it. Now the service is great. The family that owns this used to own the great shop Fish and Chicken. The boy behind the counter is such a good kid and I believe he has a great future ahead of him.
Avonhead Chinese Takeaways is the best asian takeaways in New Zealand and once you try it you'll never want to go to another takeaway shop ever again
C.We have just moved to the area and thought we would check out our local Chinese. The service was fantastic, friendly and polite. We ordered the vegetarian fried noodles, a spring roll, popcorn chicken and combination fried rice. All up this cost only $30 for HUGE portions! We also received a complimentary 330ml can for buying two meals. Food was tasty, great portion size and was served fast and hot. Thank you very much! We will be back.

The portion sizes, service and food quality are all extremely satisfying.
Classics such as sweet & sour pork and lemon chicken are done really well.
Also try the regularly updated specials (e.g. cumin lamb). Ask for the chef's recommendation.
