The Garlic Bread was awesome and the array of Tapas was very nice. The creme brulee was very nice but the Affagato was not as described in the menu, albeit nice. A bit disappointed in the fact they started packing up around us on the foreshore and the ambience went from a nice peaceful evening to a flood lit area, meanwhile the inside was very busy - there was no reason for them to do that.They also ran out of cutlery and served soup spoons for desert spoons. They also mucked up the account and our $89 Tab became a $200 Tab - so check your Tabs 😳 If there were no issues they would have been up to a 4 or 5 depending overall visit. Sadly a lot of things overshadowed the food.

4/5. Portion size was quite small with the lamb. The food all in all was of high standard and tasted delicious. Maybe due to this i wanted more. I also felt like we were put right next to the bar on new years eve, even though I had stated in my booking I had kids. Would have been much nicer if we had been but out in the restaurant area where there were many empty seats. The lovely white lady made the experience so much better though. And she was attentive to our needs and seemed to be running around and keeping the whole place running! I would like to thank her for amazing service.

We had a great lunch. The seafood chowder was really nice and the day was quite cold so it was nice. The duck was also really nice. Next time we are going to have the seafood platter to share. Would recommend to go and try. As we are not big eaters perhaps there could be a opinion for a smaller meal like to seafood chowder. Staff very friendly and helpful

Absolutely incredible!! Got the 5 plates for $78 and everything was great. Probably one of the best food experiences I’ve ever had. The staff were lovely and friendly, as well as delicious cocktails. Worth every penny. Would recommend to anyone! :)

Had a great lunch there on Saturday. I had the salmon and my partner had the prawn linguine. Both meals were so yummy! The salmon was super fresh and delicious, our meal came really quickly. The staff were lovely and very friendly. I'm allergic to eggs and the waitress was very nice and attentive to this detail. Thanks for a great meal! Would certainly return.

Super busy place with indoor and outdoor seating and great views. A very nice place to sit and relax and reflect on life. The hot chocolate was nicely served by a smiling waiter. We had dinner there, my wife and I shared 4 tapas plates. Bloody marvellous, especially the beef cheek Yorkshire puddings. Sunday evening was definitely a good choice, they were quite full on Saturday evening but Sunday was fairly empty. I'd go back again for the tapas.

We decided to have dinner and drinks at Bully Hayes over the long weekend because it was able to accommodate our walk-in number of 14 people. The spot out the front was lovely on a warm evening, looking out at the water and people watching. The service was a bit slow but we put it down to our large group (and possibly low staff numbers?) Food was fine - most people were happy with what they ordered except the fish tacos apparently weren't up to scratch. Recommend trying the squid tentacles.

We enjoyed our breakfast here two years ago so we had to return again! No, it’s not the cheapest breakfast but it tastes great and is all very fresh. The options on the menu are extensive from breakfast to dinner and lots of excellent drinks choices. Fully recommend a stop for breakfast or lunch here with such excellent views over the bay / harbour of Akaroa. Excellently served (by Lovepreet) as well with the order 100% correct (Sounds simple but with changes or Vegetarian & Vegan options mistakes are often made).

Beautiful spot in Akaroa near the main harbour. They have nears bears and good food. I had the seafood chowder, the basic brought tasted good but it would have been better if they did not used mainly chewy fish. It had a lot of octopus and mussels in it. It's not fish that should be cooked that long. Add that way later or better is salmon, pieces of white fish and maybe shrimp.... would not choose this dish a second time but there are a lot of other dishes that looked really nice on the menu. And like I said, a very nice view.

We enjoyed Bully Hayes so much that we went back again for breakfast. They were happy to have a late booking and stayed open beyond their normal closing hours. The food was fantastic, specials were amazing. Staff were super friendly. I would recommend this place for any meal during the day.

Top of the list when it comes to casual eating options on Akaroa's waterfront, it has it all: great views, an extensive menu, friendly staff. Not fine-dining, and some of the dishes could have been better. BUT we had a delightful time sitting outside on a balmy evening October with friends, and that's what made an enjoyable experience!

Lovely food. We had the small bread board for starters which came with 4 dips..Pesto, beetroot feta, olive paste and one more which I forget the name of. All were amazing. The bread was perfect as well. For mains we had the prawn linguine which was nothing like we've had before. The prawns were so soft and the pasta was very tasty. The passion fruit Brulee was very unique and perfectly made as well.

Great spot overlooking the bay for breakfast. We arrived a touch later than the 11:30am cutoff for breakfast, and the staff still accommodated us, which was greatly appreciated. Coffee is delicious and strong. The breakfast menu has the usual items - big breakfast, eggs on toast - as well as some interesting options. I had the Salmon Gravlax with crème fraîche, Kumara hash, avocado and potato crisps. A satisfying meal with a view.

pretty popular place in akaroa and i can see why!! got the white bait omelette and it was so worth the money because there were so many white baits in the omelette!! had the burger and fish and chips which were not bad as well. food’s a bit pricey but it’s worth it for the quality and the portion size. service is pretty good as well!

Walked in off the street at lunchtime, shown to a lovely sunny table with a max waterfront view and both ordered the blue cod special quick smart. ( we were extra hungry!) Got the wine and food nice and quick, and it was to die for! Wouldn't go past this place next time, ( and there will be a next time!) The menu is fairly extensive, food well prepared and presented, and staff attentive but not over bearing. Go, enjoy, just as we did!

We had our lunch yesterday 12/05/21. I ordered the seafood chowder and it was very nice. My wife ordered the salmon on the bread ans she loved it too thats why we went back for dinner and she ordered same food but me, i ordered the seafood paella. Service is fantastic. Best bread board I’ve ever had. Bread was really good quality and Charred to perfection. Dips complemented each other so well, the beetroot and feta dip was insanely tasty! Would high highly recommend. Tempura prawns were also very tender, juicy and delicious. Very pleasantly surprised. Would definitely order again!

My friend and I visited this restaurant over this weekend. What I remember the most was the large and yummy bowl of prawn linguine. My friend had some wings while her little one had some chips and battered chicken which were just as yummy. The team there provided some coloring items for their young customer and we appreciated this. I understand that the day could have been a busy one and they were busy. Went here for coffee in the morning and back for dinner at night. Service was prompt and friendly as usual. We shared the Seafood Platter with a side of breads. Lots of different seafood including a Whitebait pattie. Recommend it to anyone. Place was busy but service well run.

If you are in Akaroa or anywhere near then this is the place to go for breakfast lunch and dinner. Hands down the best seafood platter I've ever tasted. Cooked to absolute perfection with a good variety of different things. Also had the cone of chips with aoli, chips were perfect . Great selection of craft beers and wine. Beautiful view within metres of the waters edge. Also great service . Super friendly and there is a local cat called madam who is super cute.

First of all I am pleased they didn't change the name of the restaurant for Bully Hayes was a typical 19th century sailor of fortune. I enjoyed sitting in the sun quaffing a pint of beer or two, watching boats sail by. Lovely atmosphere and view. Bully Hayes has captured the French/British rivalry and staff were fascinating to talk too. They appeared to be Punjabis from India and very entertaining. Food was of a good standard. I can thoroughly recommend a visit, a drink and a meal

Never have I been to a restaurant where I have had 3 of 3 meals that are absolutely stunning. Beautifully presented, mouth watering meals, every single part of all 3 courses were amazing. Between 2 of us we had 5 different dishes, all 5 dishes were 10 out of 10. Our server was friendly, helpful and made us feel welcome. Inside and outside seating with space for wheelchair and pram.

Food here was actually pretty damn expensive but I tell you one thing, you DEFINITELY get what you paid for. I had an absolutely delicious steak, probably one of the best ones I've had for a long time. The staff there were absolutely fantastic as well, we called at 8.10pm as they were closing at 8.30pm. They told us not to worry and to come down as quick as we could and they would serve us. When we arrived a table was reserved for us and they sat us down extremely quickly. Absolutely lovely service, beautiful food and an overall wonderful experience.

Bluff oysters are very fresh in this restaurant in season. It is a bit on a costly side but most restaurants are in Akaroa. Will definitely be back.

Wow the menu has so many choices it was hard to choose. I ordered the venison with mash pumpkin and chickpeas, it was so delicious! I could say probably the most delicious meal I had in a restaurant, so full of flavours and venison was just yum, perfectly prepared! My husband had the chicken breast and risotto and his too was delicious. We are so coming back, looking forward to trying out your new summer menu, although I hope this venison dish stays on the menu! Service was fantastic too. Thank you very much for an awesome meal :-)

Great food, but the service was lacking. My wife and I enjoyed a pleasant drink here in the early afternoon and decided to return for an early dinner. We made the big mistake of sitting down at a table without being shown to it. For around ten minutes we were studiously ignored. I went to the bar and asked for a couple of menus: immediately the barman called for menus to be delivered to our table. We both chose the cod and chips, which was delicious - and in sizeable portions. Recommended - but make sure to wait for someone to show you to your table!

Very comfortable restaurant just across from the beach with a surprisingly varied menu encompassing NZ seafood and high country meats and both New Zealand and Asian influenced preparations. Everything is well prepared and served. There are a number of notable items on the menu, but the seafood chowder and Marlborough Mussels are standouts. Put in an order for the excellent chips, (Fries to you American readers), to accompany your main. Recommended.

Surprisingly long wait for not such a busy place at this time of year. My boyfriend's eggs on his benedict were overcooked but very friendly staff took care of it. Brought back with new egg from kitchen instantly but dumped a ton more sauce on top which was unappetizing. My omelette experience was not nearly as enjoyable as another reviewer that I'd read before dining here. Friendly staff and scenic dining were highlights of experience but would not return again for food. Maybe a return visit for a Summer night cocktail.

This little restaurant on the seafront promenade has nice seafood platter to share. The service seems inattentive and lost - I had to call a server multiple times: to be seated, to have a menu, to have the bill, and to pay the bill.

However, the place came highly recommended by locals, so next time we’re in the area I’m sure we’ll give it another go!

Very, very busy with two cruise ships in the harbour, subsequently food and service were under a lot of pressure. I know there is an Akaroa connection with Bully Hayes but wonder if his name is worthy of a fine restaurant and bar. He was a dirty "Black Birder," enslaving perhaps hundreds of Melanesian Islanders. Not very PC.
