Such an amazing tavern meal! We had the steak burger and pork ribs. The steak in my husband’s burger was a seriously good bit of beef. My ribs were sticky, soft and flavourful. The chips were the star of the show though, so crunchy and fluffy on the inside. The perfect crisp chip for sweet sticky rib sauce and dipping in gravy.

Called in after doing a nature walk trail. The pleasant outlook from the new(?) deck with drink in hand was exactly what we needed. We had a bowl of chips (fries) which were quite tasty. The menu offered us more choices which we will go back and sample another time. Our visit rounded off a great day out.

One of the best meals we have ever had, stopped in on the way home from Kaikoura. Our son loved it as it was very accomodating for him having a playground and barman was lovely to deal with. Food was quick and amazing would highly recommend.

We really enjoyed our stop here, didn't want to leave. Lovely fire going, food great, music, friendly locals. Barman who is from Brazil friendly. All in all great stop.

A hidden gem. Service and meals were excellent. Both the lamb shank and ceasar salad meals were great, and the delicious coffee and cold beer very much appreciated. A super place to break the Christchurch to Kaikoura drive.

Love having this plc open again! Just far enough away to get the ole girls out for a drive and blow the cobwebs out lol..Great staff,great food great atmosphere..what more could you want? ...Go on ..get you car out and go for a drive!!

HIGHLY recommend for anyone needing a place for dinner/ a beer when traveling alone SH1. Place has been restored beautifully and food is outstanding. Outside deck is awesome for a beer.

We were staying in the area, and popped into this perfect little country pub for a bite to eat. The fish & chips were fantastic, and we had a wonderful chat with the friendly owner as he closed up. Definitely stop in for a pint.

If you're on Highway 1, this is a worthwhile stop. Greta Valley is a lovely farming community with rolling hills and small town charm. We discovered the Greta Valley Pub on our evening drive from Kaikoura to Christchurch. We were happy to find that it was still open and serving food on a Wednesday at 8 pm. "Bones," the barefoot and eccentric Kiwi pub owner, enthusiastically welcomed us. He was quite endearing and gave us many laughs that night. (Ask him to share some of his poetry if you're open minded.) We ordered mussel chowder, 2 fish and chips, and a large Speight's beer for $40NZ. It was satisfying and filling and we enjoyed the sunset from the pubs large windows. After dinner, the pub owner treated us to several games of pool and opened up the jukebox for us. We closed down the bar and ended up staying at the owner's B&B nearby, which was both comfortable and convenient.
