We had dinner here and the prawns with cashew nuts was our favourite. For four persons who have small appetites generally, three small dishes was all we needed. Definitely will be back.💕👍

Love the dumpling with vinegar sauce. The crispy skin Chiken is so well done with crispy skin and moist inside. Yum. Service is good this time, ice water with lemon... great touch.

Had dinner with my wife here tonight, the place was very busy however, we didn't have to wait long for our order to arrive. I was blown away with the amount of food on each plate, it was tasty and a delight to eat. Wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place. Let me say if you want a good feed them this is the place to go.

Very big and beautiful Chinese restaurant. Good verity of foods are available. We ordered dumpling which was delicious in taste. We paid 26 nzd for 20 dumpling which is good price though. Stuff behaviour was not good. We asked them for extra sauce but he denied and later we asked his manager then she told him to give us extra sauce (happily) but still he didn't bring extra sauce and making a very rude face. I don't know why he was doing like that. This was happened first time to me in New Zealand. Otherwise I like restaurant and food.

Absolutely delicious food!! The Cashew chicken came with so many vegetables, so felt very healthy. The wasabi sauce prawns have an amazing flavour and texture, and are not actually spicy! And the tiramisu cake from the bakery section was a perfect ending to the meal! Would highly recommend the food at Joyful Restaurant :)

A really busy restaurant which also does some really good Peking duck. Arguably one of the best. The staff were friendly and the place was quite clean despite being fully packed. They also do some really nice cakes which are sold at the back near the cashier, I would really recommend the cheesecake as it was soft and jiggly, not too sweet and almost melts in your mouth despite it being eaten the next evening.

“Best Chinese Restaurant in Christchurch” Thank goodness for Joyful Restaurant, I love the food here, I've been dining at this as well as the old location for over 15 years and never have I been disappointed. Egg foo yong, crispy skin pork, lemon chicken, spicy squid and fried dumplings are my favourite dishes. Love Joyful.

The Joyful Restaurant is a destination for many in the Chch community and for those whom like me occasionally return to Christchurch. The food is the best of Chinese cuisine, plentiful and extremely tasty. The staff flow around the tables taking orders and delivering food and drinks, usually with a smile. I have been eating at this restaurant for over 30 years and recommend it to all who enjoy the richness of Chinese cuisine and culture.

Dishes were flavourful, the only thing was we had 2 dishes given to us early and had to ask for the other 3 dishes twice, then 20 minutes later they appeared. They were very busy at the time

An excellent Chinese restaurant in Riccarton. Delicious cusine and the dumplings are one of my favourites. If you like fish the king prawns are a must. The restaurant is very inviting with wonderful staff, is a pleasure to visit. Comes highly recommended.

Disappointing. In past Joyful restaurant has been reliable, tasty, and has served good portion sizes. Tonight we ordered the half Peking Duck, we did not get half a duck worth of meat. It tasted very bland. We also ordered the roast pork belly, it took a very long time to arrive and the rice we ordered to accompany it was almost cold by then. The pork belly itself was tasty, and worth testing, but the price for what it is was pushing the envelope of good value. I'm not sure we'll be visiting again. We spent over $70 and not one dish impressed us.

I think I can comfortably speak for most Cantabrians when I say that this place is officially Christchurch's best Chinese restaurant. These guys take Chinese cuisine to a level well beyond what you may be thinking for those of you thinking about the Chinese you might find at your local takeaway store. It is as much a part of Christchurch as the trams, the gondola or the cathedral. Their food is not to be missed nor their beautiful baked goods!

Had a wonderful night at this restaurant. It was very busy with all tables taken as it was Saturday night. So glad we booked. 12 of us around the table but that was fun. Went to Joyful a week ago. Went as a group of 12 people for dinner. We all opted for the Banquet B option. In terms of value for money for the group it worked out pretty well. It was $36 p/person and everyone left satisfied. The food options were all typical crowd pleasers (chicken with cashew nuts, satay chicken, etc) and tasted okay. Nothing amazing but a good place to visit for a group

Nice restaurant. The peking duck with pancakes are amazing. Staff is less impressive. Took ages to take our order. Some of the staff didnt have good english so it was difficult to get our order across. Food comes in two sizes, the smaller size is still quite big which is a good thing. The food experience was great and enjoyed the meal but!!!!! the service was almost non existent - very few smiles and didn't feel welcome. We hadn't booked and we were happy with the table by the door. We ordered and one by one the dishes came out, someone passed the table and slapped down our invoice but at this stage one of our party had not received his meal - some minutes later he approached the front desk and reluctantly said she would investigate. She arrived with the missing dish but with no apology (actually she plonked it down), the dish was still hot and very enjoyable but the service was shocking. While we were eating the staff cleared a table across from us while the patrons were leaving, some of them still sitting down - it was the most awful service I had ever seen. We went to impress a friend from out of town but don't think we will be back.

Regulars at joyful for at least 10 years, us and many others including prominent chef mates in the CHC area .. Amazing pan fried dumplings, awesome spicy squid. The chicken corn soup is a staple but do share anything more than a small. Mains are great, sweet sour pork, fried noodles, noodle soup broths are superb.. Kung Po pork or chicken is hard to pass by. Have to fill the joyful craving once a month! Love is the word. Thanks Joyful crew for staying and serving CHC!
