Lovely chill atmosphere. I ordered the "Stand by your lamb" which was a great dish. The mash potatoes were creamy, the jus was added a nice sharpness to the dish and the lamb was juicy. Finished with the banofee pie, which was awesome because it had the taste of caramel without being overly sweet. A great place to have the family out for dinner or a catch- up with friends. Would recommend!

Fantastic dinner and desserts. Really quick food and drink service. Managed to get our dinner faster than you would typically get an entree at any other restaurant. Reina’s service was absolutely fantastic. Very kind, welcoming, helpful, and went out of her way to make sure that we had a good experience… Which of course we did! A real asset to the Lone Star team. 5/5 would definitely come here again!

We went to Northlands Lone Star for an early dinner on Boxing Day. The food was fantastic and the staff were wonderful at every interaction. We were a party of three who ordered a Cajun Chicken, a GF Gerhard Burger with fries, and Redneck Ribs with Buffalo Chips, plus drinks. The size of the meals here is impressive. We had to get a box for our leftovers. At no point did we feel rushed, unwelcomed, or neglected. We came away full, happy, and very thankful for a great dining experience!

We went here to celebrate my birthday for tea & we had 2 really nice starters ...the kids got the sticky ribs as a mains, they were nice & sweet but lacked any real flavor. I got the tiger prawns on rice, sadly I couldn't eat my meal as the prawn were only 1/2 cooked through which I had to send back (just my luck aye) .... therefore I am giving 3 stars out of 5 based on the mains & the 2 nice starters & the awesome service we received from the staff.

Always enjoy coming here with my family. Just love the food, staff are very friendly and always willing to help and make sure we're comfortable and satisfied with everything. We've been here a few times now and we've always enjoyed it. Thank you very much lone star 😀

My husband had the ribs it was a huge serving had to take some home. I had the open steak sandwich all was delicious, service was excellent. This was lunchtime meal it was peaceful surroundings so a nice relaxing place to eat at that time.

Great place to have a meal away from main Mall, we had first table so was great way to try out the menu. Food was enjoyable we had steaks, nachos, chips, ribs and staff were attentive, good place to go.

Meal was okay. Steak not cooked as requested, was more rare than the medium requested. Branded fillet meal was odd served with potato bake would prefer chips and salad. The whole menu is very odd. No chicken nuggets for kids. Was not the good Lone Star menu it used to be. Will not dine at Lone Star again.

Busy Saturday night, place pumping but no drop in great service! My family was lucky enough to have the amazing Reina looking after us and she was PERFECT. Great attitude, wonderful suggestions and even a few laughs together. Reina and the team made our night special, we will be back again very soon. Have some passionfruit margaritas waiting for us 😁

Always really liked the Lonestar restaurants. This Lone Star serves great food and definitely plenty of it. There's something wrong if you walk away not feeling full from your meal. A cozy place to go the Lone Star caters for large groups or couples. I like the steaks here as they are big, juicy and mouth watering. It has nice atmosphete. They had a great communication system on the table. Push a button to request a drink, get service or get the manager.

Serving sizes are abundant, meats doneness were as requested. For the rest it was ok. The tables had crusty bird droppings which were sloppily wiped when a waitress was made aware. Service was slow for a group of 12 with not many other customers at the time.

Took a an American (from Portland) friend who wanted a good steak. He got it. My burger I gave a 4 star. Even though the weather was not good we were cozy outside in a covered in area that had gas heating. Lone Star was humming, obviously a family restaurant.

Had a lovely meal in level 2 covid lockdown meaning staff had to wear masks. I myself am an essential worker so know how hard it is doing an entire shift wearing one but the staff here were all so efficient, friendly and completely kept their cool under the new rules. A wonderful experience - big thanks to our server Paige and the cooks (fantastic food!)

I really liked the meal.The staff are really good but there was one thing I would like to know as when I was asked for my order as I ordered the honky tonk chicken they asked if I would like med or large I said med and I thought it would have been Cheaper but it was the same price as once they use to have a small or medium ones with different prices if I had known it was the same price I would have ordered the larger so perhaps you could put it on the menu as people would be aware of it then

Although the food was good, the experience was SEVERELY let down by the inadequate service. The mains took 45 minutes to come out and as we had a 5.30pm booking and there was only a few tables of people it should not be bought out with luke warm chips. After finishing the food i had to find someone to clear our table as no one came near us. Wont be going back.

Once again a beautiful meal was eaten! Comanche Salad is the best yum yum. Have yet to come across something I haven't enjoyed. Only downside was receiving my drink in a dirty glass, but a fresh glass and drink was soon delivered - awesome work Lone Star! Our server Paige was lovely too.

Recently we have had two really enjoyable family meals at the Lone Star Cafe Northlands. On the first occasion our waitress was Nicole and she was excellent. I guess we must have got used to accepting meh service as we were really pleasantly surprised by the service that we received. She was so polite, attentive and quick to act. Our meals were also fantastic, huge as per usual and almost too much food to get through. Great kids menu too. Second occasion we had a trainee waitress, who did a wonderful job, checking in on us and serving us quickly. Was also our daughter's birthday and they gave her a special little surprise. Really enjoyed it and will return for sure.

Had dinner here last Friday evening and was warmly welcomed. I had already decided that I was going to order something other than "my usual "Dixie Chicken(always so good)so went for the Lassoo of Hogg..never again, both of us ordered the same thing and both of these dishes came out overcooked and dry and even the truckload of sauce poured all over the top did little to disguise this sad fact. The starter of Squid however was delicious and nicely cooked.

I was suprised at how quick our food and drinks came out as it was quite busy. My fiance’s steak was delish - I wasnt a super fan of the ribs but that just comes down to personal preference. Our family always come here to celebrate our family birthdays, service is always very good. Although the Lasso of Hog which is the meal that I normally have has declined a bit since the shutdown in 2020. The cut is thinner and it seems to be dried out when presented on the plate.

We have banana pancakes here often on Sundays and occasionally frozen margaritas. One manager makes AMAZING margaritas. Everyone else is pretty rubbish. Love the pancake when it's not burned, forgotten about or undercooked. It's pretty much one star or five stars so averaging out at three. Inconsistent but great when they nail it, we keep coming back.

I have provided a 5 star as the restaurant is in mint condition and the staff are great to deal with. We had a problem with the crashing on a voucher but this is not the branches fault instead headoffice needing to update their systems. The store was very helpful and amazing responses to helping me to ensure I paid the right price. The food is absolutely heavenly and very well cooked. I strongly recommend this Lone Star over some of the others I have been to.

A bit of a shame there was no lamb dishes on the menu as that is a favourite, but understand you running a limited menu. Service was very impressive. All staff so prompt and attentive. It was busy but you wouldn’t know with how seamless the service was. Meals came out promptly, tables cleared quickly, more drinks offered. There is even a button on the table to press to request your waitress or a drink if needed. Meals were not only large but equally as delicious and a great kids menu too. We even had our meal summary delivered to table With a handwritten thank you from our waitress Maisie on the top. Nice family friendly restaurant. Not a loud atmosphere and nice background music. Our waiter was great, very friendly and efficient. High chair and coloring was brought for our son. A bit of a wait for food, about 35 minutes for our three mains, which is reasonable. Food was disappointing, however. We ordered pan seared fish with mashed potato for our toddler, and the fish was very dry and tough and oversalted. Mashed potatoes were also a bit on the dry/sticky side. Salad was a coleslaw with some big pieces of cababge, not very kid friendly. Even as an adult, I was put off by the kid meal. I ordered eye fillet, and everything on the plate was oversalted! So much salt, even the spinnach and the sauce was super salty. It was so disappointing, because the meat was cooked well and was nice and tender. My husband ordered the chicken stack and said it was nice, but also a little too salty. I did enjoy my iced coffee, it was very nice. So overall, 1 terrible kid main, 1 bad eye fillet main, one nice chicken main. Nice atmosphere, but will not be back for the food, sadly.

Great experience for two of us. We walked in after a movie. They found us a table very quickly. I need gf food and the menu had several options. I ordered a burger with a side of chips and aioli. My partner order the burrito. We ordered our drinks which came quickly and were nicely chilled. Our meals arrived in a good time. Generous servings, well presented, delicious. Unfortunately, we were too full to have desserts. But I did notice there were gf options. The service was excellent, the staff helpful.

I recieved a $100 voucher at the Riccarton races for the Lone Star as part of the Fashion competition. This was so generous! Thank you. My friend and I thoroughly enjoyed our meals at Lone Star Papanui. We had the Lamb main and the Prawn Star main. Both were excellent and very tasty meals. The lamb was slow cooked to perfection. Really good service from all staff. Food met expectations for the dining type and price (for our meals) seemed reasonable by Nz standards. I ordered the veggie burger and was surprised at the quality given their specialty is meat! Portion sizes were good. Ordered a kids meal and that was reasonable although chicken was a little on the dry side, however our 2 year old didn’t seem to mind! She also lapped up the dessert that came with it. We couldn’t fit dessert in but did take up the opportunity to take one home which was packaged nicely.

Booked in my 60th at The Courtyard and James and his staff could not have been more hospitable. We had about 40 people and were able to sort the tables how we liked, put up some decorations and the Lone Star team sorted the drinks, music etc. Definately consider for another function as the platters and drinks were all priced reasonably.

Fantastic meal! Had Johnny cash stash and it was huge and very delicious! Husband had the ribs and said they were super yummy! We took our parents to Lone Star Cafe & Bar Papanui who came all the way from Australia for vacation and the best thing is we all enjoyed the food to our heart’s content. The food was excellent since they use only the best & freshest local produce. The ambiance was great and service was just perfect.
