Nice, but nothing amazing. Really good service, great location, but the food was OK. My vegan breakfast needed more flavoring, maybe something extra, especially for the price. My meat eating husband said about the same for his breakfast offering. While we would be happy coming back it will be after we try a few other options in the town.

Friendly service and our beef fillets were cooked okay and served beautifully. Unfortunately I have had better steak meals for far less money and because of that and the casual beach-vibe of the restaurant, I really felt that $43 for a steak was just horrifically overpriced. After ordering some mash as well (since the steak only came with 2 small green things as per the photo) the meal for two cost us $95 - NOT including drinks. It’s not that I didn’t like the place, it’s that when I’m paying that sort of money I want to feel like I’m there for the experience of a night out and absolutely incredible flavours and it really didn’t feel like that. I also mistakenly thought it would be a French restaurant due to the name - it’s definitely not. Wouldn’t go back to be honest.

Really nice experience, food and drink are good, service is friendly, and location and view in spectacular. But wish they had more drink (cocktail) choices, and the toilet was nicer (cleaner) and bigger.

Even at level 2 this place made us feel special. Birthday for our sista. Service was on point out waitress was forward thinker and just made service awesome. Blue code was soo good and the cake ordered from sweet revenge

Great spot in Akaroa, lovely atmosphere and perfect view of the harbor. Staff were very friendly and service was quick. They do a happy hour 4 - 6 were bubbles and tap beer is only $8. Didn't have food but would like to come back and try as it does like a very nice place. Would recommend for a pleasant drink and nice atmosphere/view

Been here 3 times this past week. The seafood platter is really good value for money and delicious. Beautiful setting out on the veranda. Perfect summer spot for a drink, snack or a food meal. Generous portions too 😉

Nice little dinner place. Used to be more upmarket but has turned a little more casual with the times. The steak and kokoda were fabulous highly recommended, must try. As was the Pannacotta. Great staff, were clearly busy but made time and were pleasant with everyone, didn't have to wait long for food. We had a cheery young waiter who was a delight, he was very onto it and had a great attitude.

The food was nice, but nothing amazing, although it was beautifully presented it was overpriced for what it was. Location was stunning. Service was ok, but a bit slow. Unfortunately once we had ordered desert and service for the evening was coming to the end the kitchen staff could be heard loud and clear from where we were sitting outside in the veranda area, giggling and and carring on, their conversation echoed overtop of ours. Not good for a fine dining experience.

The service was wonderful. It's lovely to sit out on the terrace to admire the view and listen to the birds. I had the scallops, it was the first time I've ever had them and they were amazing. It's quite a rich little dish, I felt it needed something to break it up so I'm glad I got some wedges as well. My partner got the fish burger, it was orange roughy that day and apparently it was delicious. The chilli fries were so good! Will definitely be recommending this as the spot to go if you are eating in Akaroa.

Yummy food and drinks, and a beautiful view out over the water from the outside area. The staff were all very friendly and helpful and let us hang around for quite a while, just soaking in the atmosphere. I had the venison for dinner and it was perfectly cooked and just wonderful!

Well this was our 5th New Years in a row dining at Ma Maison …. Tonight we had 6 adults and 2 children 9yr & 11yr .. Food as always was outstanding , although they have shortened their menu for New yers Eve . The problem started when a little yacht pulled up to the small jetty & she was a real old stunner , so 3 of adults & 2 children wondered over to have we look. We left handbags , 1 adult & sunglasses on table when the waitress come running up to the person still sitting their and demanded payment right then n there as she believes we were all doing a dine n dash !!!!! We were on 15 metres away looking at a yacht , why could she not of asked as , because she seen us walk over their . So that put a very bad taste in our mouths … we just left . No desserts & no more wine from them and a some what spoilt night & the bill was $ 695.00 . And to top it off … no apologies . Brent

Lovely restaurant with great food. There are indoor and outdoor seating with breathtaking views. Priced very reasonably and they have a kid's menu too. They were able to cater for those with gluten-free dietary requirements. Excellent customer service and strongly recommended to others wanting a nice meal in Akaroa.

Fairly sure they didn't swap out the sausage for a gluten free option though, as my husband had a reaction about 30 mins later consistent with gluten in his food. We did state he was gluten sensitive. The food was tasty though and large portions.

If you're considering it, then you should eat here. From the flexibility of the menu to the quality of service and cuisine, Ma Maison gets it right. My partner, son 3 (y.o.) and I had lunch here today during a brief day trip from Christchurch. My son had perfectly poached eggs on thick, buttery toast that was deliciously soft. My partner had the spiced pumpkin soup and a mocktail that she absolutely loved (can't recall which, but it was "gin"-based), and I had a mango breeze to wash down the battered cod with chili-salted chips and side salad. The fried fish was fantastic. Crisp, crunchy batter, flaky and tender fish, just...yes. I melted down into my seat on the first bite. The chili-salted chips were a really enjoyable twist, and the side salad was a nice, bright complement to the other components. Strongest recommendation for Ma Maison

Went here for Brunch. Breakfast menu runs all day. Ordered the veggie breakfast and my partner ordered the same with sausages. Food was decent for the price (by Akaroa standards). Eggs were a little pale and there could have been a bit more hollandaise but all up met expectations. Good view and good service from staff.

What an amazing and unique place. The terrace is enclosed now in winter so you can enjoy being warm inside while enjoying the view. The food is excellent and the service is great. The staff is really friendly and helpful. We had the seafood platter and just was delicious the amount of food and quality is stunning. It’s a really cozy place perfect to have a coffee, breakfast, lunch or dinner. Is located in a perfect spot. You must visit if you are going to Akaroa

(OK actually it was the scallops, amazing... ) Every dish was composed with brilliantly complementary sauces, fish and meats were juicy and succulent, no idea when we can be back but definitely a great place to drop in at!

Went here twice over a long weekend. Great food here, well presented and thought out. On one of the occasions they were very busy and there was a bit of a miscommunication with our order, but the way they dealt with it was superb. Very popular for lunch and dinner. Sadly we missed happy hour! The 'kids box' was a hit both times. Like how they thought of that as an idea to keep kids happy. Blue Cod (lunch) and the Salmon Fish of the Day (dinner) were superb. My wife's Caesar salad was excellent too. Heard mussels are great - one for next time. Great drinks selection.

Wow! The tuna to start was incredible- so many flavours in a brightly coloured dish, for main the gnocchi - was beautiful - the saffron flavours with the coconut and pumpkin worked wonderfully. Spent NYE at Ma Maison and it didn’t disappoint! Staff were incredible, food was delicious (especially the seared tuna), stunning location and atmosphere was perfect. Can’t thank the lovely hostess enough for finding us the perfect table. Ma Maison from the clientele seems to be loved by both locals and tourists. Also being in IT, I was impressed with their systems and customer processes - I have never had a follow up email from a restaurant. Definitely a 10/10!

Ma Maison was amazing they conveniently allowed us to bring our booking forward and the service was absolutely top, all our orders were correct and came in a timely manner. So, we were here visiting my father in law who owns the Grand Hotel. He rarely gets a night off so we wanted to take him out for dinner. My partner (daughter of Eric, who owns The Grand) and I dine out reasonably often so we know what adds up to a great dining experience (add to that I have worked in a number of kitchens behind the grill). I don't say this lightly, Ma Maison provided us with the best dining experience we have had for quite some time. The food was 100% without fault, the staff were friendly, attentive and great fun to interact with. Granted it is not the cheapest place in town, but well worth every cent. To cap off the evening, as it had started raining the young waitress (apparently only 18 but by the way she carried herself in service I assumed she was at least 25) offered to drive us back to the Grand in her own car (which was a five speed manual). It takes a classy 18 year old to drive a manual, so I was even more impressed. Loved the experience guys. In these post covid times keep up the good work and you'll make it through to better times. Thanks for a great night.

We had a lovely meal here on the 30th of December. My partner and I shared the beef and lamb dishes... Parmesan gnocchi is my new favourite thing! The staff were wonderful and attentive, apologetic for the slightly longer than usual wait times given the end of year madness! The duty manager and one waitress very calmly and politely responded to a rude and disgruntled customer without letting it impact on those of us who were enjoying our evening. The restaurant was humming even at 1800 hours - the staff were wonderful , food was very very good and we had a lovely evening. Recommended - we never give 5 stars!! but Ma Maison is a 4.5 for sure - lovely setting , great food and a good outlook of Akaroa.

This is a very nice restaurant with views of the seafront. The menu is terrific and makes chosing so easy and difficult at the same time☺️. The food was delicious with good portions .Staff are very polite and attentive (we were served by a young blond girl, who was very helpful and a real credit to the restaurant). Overall I think this is the best restaurant in Akaroa.

Amazing place. Lovely warm on a cold day with view over the bay. Great flexible host. Could bring my small dog in area normally outside which was great. Friends had a swim competition and had to leave for 1 hour. Soup was heated up without asking. Rarely staff are that flexible. The food was lovely too. Amy and the team at Ma Maison are great and very much helped us with what would have been our wedding plans. Although plans took a turn with Covid-19, the Ma Maison showed the utmost empathy, consideration and were extremely accommodating. Although I wasnt there for a meal, I turned up reasonably late in the freezing cold to catch up with a dear friend of mine, we were welcomed in with such delight, had a couple of drinks by the beautiful open fire including a salted caramel espresso martini! The food was really good and tasty. The view over the bay and the sunset was amazing. Unfortunately, the staff was almost totally absent and ran around like a bunch of confused chickens! Get control of the chickens and you have the most beautiful spot in Akaroa :)

Great location and have been impressed when eating here previously. This time was a bit disappointing. Having ordered the gluten free battered fish option with chilli salt chips. I was, I thought, right to expect fish in a cornflour tempura type coating. Sadly not. The gluten free option means NO batter at all!! I don't think Humaking up a quick batter would have been all that time consuming. Not only that but there appeared to be no chilli salt on either my or my companion's chips. The restaurant specifically states that dietary requirements can be accommodated and I think for 30 dollars for fish and chips a bit more could be expected. For desert I ordered what I thought was rose tea pannacotta but this turned out to be pannacotta swimming in almost a bowlful of liquid which, although beautifully flavoured, had melted most of the granita. Note to chef: a coulis would be a better accompaniment Still, great service and amazing view

Came here for lunch. Would definitely need to buy something else to fill my stomach. Twas a decent french meal but it was pricey. The oysters were drained and not the best. Twas priced at half a dozen for 28nzd... hmmm Their scallops were nice, soft and tasty. Their tuna was quite disappointing, 4 small slices at 19dollars. Their kokoda is richly flavoured, but not for those who dont really like coconut. I just saw someone else who ordered a fish and chips, seems good... Overall, ask the waitress/waiter more abt the meal and the size of the meal before ordering.

The Salmon was perfect. Also the Vernison was very good. It was the best food I had in 4 weeks in New Zealand. In the normal price segment, let's say 25-40 Dollar for a main, I had many disappointing experiences with New Zealand's cousine. But here you get a little bit more than the standard average dishes you get in most of the other restaurants. And this all for a normal price. It was nice to be there. I enjoyed it. Nice location too.

This is a great little harbor-front restaurant that serves quality lunches and terrific 4-6 happy hours. Their burgers and chicken sandwiches are a huge portion for one person but are high quality in taste. I ordered the chicken sandwich with the raita (yogurt and cucumbers) on the side just because it otherwise would have been a sloppy mess. The beetroot chutney on the side is fantastic. This dish is served with crispy, thick chips (ketchup on request). Service is speedy and professional and the atmosphere is beachy-charming. There really isn't a bad seat in the house. Not good for "cheap eats".
