Had the best dumplings by far in Christchurch. Noodles soups are bland, you need to enhance its taste with the condiments.

beautiful dining environment but dishes not as appealing. The cold chicken in chili and peanut was literally taken out from the fridge. Overall an average for me, Siew Mai was very good though. I'll not keep going solely for Siew Mai.

Went for dinner last Saturday. The food was very good. Couple of friends are vegan, they were very accommodating, dishes were made vegan versions. The pork dumplings are super yummy! Love it.

Food here is the most authentic Shanghai cuisine in NZ I have ever ate. Highly recommend the Sheng jian bao here, it's crispy, juicy and tasty all in one. It will renovate your perception of bun. We had two kind of noodles, one is bland soup with fish chunks and the other one is with spicy mince meat (not too spicy and quite taste). Also tried some dishes of beef, beef offal and prawn with bamboo shoot. All good and for a nice price.

The Sheng Jian bao 生煎包 was well done, juicy with soup still in the bun - one of the harder dim sum to perfect but they did. Shrimp dumplings, siew mai, char siew BBQ pork bun and chicken noodles were all tasty. The xiao long bao on the other hand can be improved by perfecting the soup in the bun technique. Enjoyed our dim sum lunch here. 👍

This was our first time here and we went for lunch. When we first walked in we were amazed, the decor is fantastic! We were greeted and seated immediately. They use a tablet system to order food which was explained thoroughly, once we had ordered the food and drinks arrived quickly and were delicious! We will definitely be back

Great service and decent food! The vibes were very charming and comfortable. We loved the hot pot tofu with crab meat, which was tasty and yummy, perfect with rice. Shanghai steamed buns were made a little bigger than they should be but the taste was great. The pork feet soup with tofu skin was ok, different from another authentic Shanghai restaurant in Wellington. Otherwise, all were excellent.

Good food, hot when it arrived and tasted nice. Pricing was good for the quantity received and the server was friendly. Speaks English and understands your requirement. The temperature could have been a bit more warm on a cold rainy day otherwise can't complain. Will definitely be back. Thanks for having us 👍

The local newspaper The Press interview with this restaurant owner during the pandemic brought me to try Shanghai bistro and bar. Fussy as me I'd say the food and service ticked most of the boxes and I am a regular now, my family loves it, too. Looking from an unusual angle, most of the other chinese restaurants are notorious with their toilet hygiene but I find this one rather acceptable, although could be better! The Ipad menu seems a bit of an over kill, but not a bad investment to stand out! Rear entrance could be improved and made more welcoming!

We arranged a three table birthday dinner here involving several courses. All the food came out promptly and every table was synchronized nicely. All of the dishes were very solid and there were no major faults in the flavours and taste of each dish. The downside is the size of the restaurant which struggled to accomodate the three tables. Ideally we would have liked to hire the entire restaurant. Not the fault of the restaurant; they tried their hardest to accomodate us. Would be a lovely place for a smaller group.
