The best Thai food I ever had! Everything was delicious! The place is very nice. Service was good and fast even though the restaurant was busy. Portion size was big. Highly recommended!

Had the duck in love curry& beef salad. Both of them tasted good, especially the curry with sweet fruity flaour from pinapple& lychee wellbalanced the spicyness. Salad could of had more green in it. Friendly staff.

Large restaurant with a large menu and equally large portions. All our party enjoyed their meals. Service was friendly and prompt. Could do with downsizing portions and prices a bit. There is a charge for take out containers.

Very nice Thai food and a very nice restaurant. We had the Pad thai, Cashew Nuts and Alcoholic and they were all fine. The Alcoholic one was perfect ! 5/5, a little bit spicy but very delicious The cashew nut and pad thai were also pretty good 4/5 I really liked how the interior looked like. The staff were so efficient and friendly as well.

Thai chef always has delicious food and great atmosphere. Great promotions and kind people. I'd suggest to warm the place more during lunch in winter. Definitely we'll back soon.

Franchised Thai restaurant, we've been to the Wellington one before and first time in this christchurch branch. Fusion decor with Thai centric, variety seating arrangements flexible for groups of different sizes. Great services, staff are all very nice and friendly, happily packed left over for us to take home. Great location with free parking at rear but easily missed, though there's a carpark right next to it, their customers are not allowed to park there. We had a whole fish with special Thai sauce (we had the same thing in Wellington branch before and it was amazing BTW) the fish was not fresh, despite it being deep-fried, we could still smell it not being fresh. Also ordered a squid pad Thai, we didn't order seafood pad Thai to avoid cheap frozen seafood mix from the supermarket, but the squid was also not fresh. Slightly disappointed.

Super delicious, I ordered the Royal Penang with duck and mixed Entree through uber eats and was 100% not disappointed. Very tasty! Glad I didn't go beyond the medium heat option for the curry as it certainly had kick. Definitely the best thai in Chch 👌

It was a busy day with less staff at the counter to attend as receptionist and cashier at the same time. Food was good thai chef fried rice is diff from the normal thai rice. I had their signature one. It tastes like chicken green curry on rice

Lovely place, nice service. Had Garlic Mussels, and Chicken Pad Thai. There was however, a noisy group of about 15 men that should have maybe had a private room, my group of 3 left soon after eating only for that reason. Overall, fully recommended!

Please note: you have to pay as one bill for the whole table, so it's better for couples. Also Byo @ 5pp wine only, no sake doesn't count, only western style wine.

Taste was good, tom yum soup it's one of the best in nz so far. Good portion as well..

This restaurant came highly recommended by a family member so my expectations were high! My partner and I were looking forward to an authentic Thai experience, having enjoyed dining in Thailand several years ago. We waited a long time to be served but staff were polite and efficient - it was a busy night with 80% of tables occupied. The food was well presented and tasty. We ordered a green curry and Pad Thai - both 'hot'. The curry was very sweet. My partner enjoyed the Pad Thai. I was a little disappointed in the food but overall it was a pleasant night out.

Oops forgot to take pic. Food was good. I like spicy and asked for hotter!! Which is pretty hot. Shared the mixed appetizer. Service a bit slow though.

If you like Thai food and haven't tried Thai chef you are missing out! We order Thai food regularly here and would highly recommend. The curries are full of flavour and depth and the crispy pork is to die for! Occasionally the meals are spicier compared to other times but we have not been disappointed yet

I have been here a few times, but I figured it was time I leave a review. :-) I've never been disappointed coming here, and it is definitely my go-to for thai food! The atmosphere inside the restaurant is lovely and relaxing. Restaurants are always a bit scary for me as I suffer from anxiety but the atmosphere and the friendly waiter never fail to make me feel at ease. The restrooms are also decently kept, except for a couple plastic stains that would be hard to erase. Always well stocked as well. The food is fantastic for the price, and is very well worth it no matter what you order. I always order the vegeterian Pad Thai and it is delicious everytime. The assortments of vegetables and the noodles go very well together, and the crushed nut and lettuce leaves really bring the dish together perfectly. The portion is always a bit too much for me, but the waiters are always happy to ask if I would like a container to take it home with. I have no problem paying the fee for the container - it's definitely worth it as one dish works out as two meals for a smaller person like me! My father and partner who are also big fans of Thai Chef always order themselves a Laksa, my partner requests Tofu instead of meat, and they are always happy to make him a tofu laksa even if it is not on the menu for no extra cost. Definitely a bonus for vegetarians! The laksas themselves are huge and taste delicious. I myself would not be able to finish one, however as a meal for my partner it is perfect as he is a larger man with a good appetite when it comes to good food. Sometimes he can hardly finish it. All in all I have been very happy with Thai Chef everytime I have eaten here and would gleefully recommend this restaurant to anyone. :-)

Found this place through pamphlets at the hotel we stayed at. Interior of the restaurant is dark and dated but the food is delicious. Found out that they have a restaurant in Napier Hawkes Bay and I am yet to try the food in this restaurant. Service is great and friendly.

I have visited this restaurant several times. Every time the food is excellent and good value for the price. The service from the wait staff is good, but their reservation system is lacking. Each time we have been there either our reservation was lost or notes about the table we requested were lost, thankfully the food makes up for it every time. We will still keep coming back, but if they improve the reservation system I will be happy to change this to a 5 star review

I had the Pad Thai and Cashew with rice at lunch time. Both were delicious. I would highly recommend this restaurant in Riccarton, if you want to try Thai food. But, the atmosphere was not my type. Because, It was bit cold inside and had no music. And, I think the staff need to let customers know about the spiciness of the dishes. It is a good place in terms of price and food quality.

Good food, used to have buy one get one free every monday but it changed so 1 less star, sorry.

Above average, but not exceptional. Better options available in town. Excellent use of spice, one of the spiciest foods Ive had in NZ Excellent salad. Pad Thai a bit average but happy to see the duck option. Nice interior.

BEST Thai restaurant I’ve ever been to! Such good food and staff are very nice. Food comes out quite quickly and just so delicious. I’m from Australia and been traveling the South Island and been here 2 nights in a row now 😊 wish we could stay longer and keep eating here.

This place is in my opinion the best thai restaurant in Christchurch. We have eaten here several times now. The food, the staff, the service its excellent. Went at 6 ish on Saturday night. Good was good, meals were staggered heavily with around 20 minutes between first and last. Very good portion sizes, bear in mind you pay extra for rice.

Went to this restaurant last night with a group. Cant speak highly enough of it.The staff were extremely pleasant and very helpful. Nothing was too much trouble. Even though there were about 30 of us, we were all served at much the same time. Heated plates were bought out . The food was piping hot and extremely tasty. The servings were generous, and I bought some of my meal home. Will definately go again, and will highly recommnd it.

I came to this restaurant because it's closest to the hotel I was staying at. Was pleasantly surprised by its wonderfully friendly & helpful staff and beautiful food. Every piece of my Mixed Appetizer was perfectly cooked and so delicious; the ThaiChef Fruit punch was very refreshing. And my main dish-Pad Thai Yellow Noodles..omg! It's the best Pad Thai I've ever had! I was going to get C U Later Noodles initially but the staff recommended the Pad That Yellow Noodles and I was so glad I listened!! Highly recommend. 5 stars for sure!!

This is my regular place and I love the food and atmosphere. However, The service was quite poor this time, our food didn’t arrive at the same time, no cutlery on the table and had to ask for water two times. Hope your service goes up again at where it was.

This restaurant has the best thai food and service in Christchurch. From recent visits it has been faultless, the portion sizes are great and the range of options and customisation of the menu is something else.

Very nice meal... the Ocean Volcano comes out flaming, a very delicious dish. The menu here is big, not like any other, so be sure to order a Tom Kah 1st... Thai Chefs have 5 levels of heat.. mild, medium, hot, hotter and bloody hot! Lol... really lovely staff here too... we were really impressed. Will be definitely going back

Amazing food! Good price and super cheap for byo. Service is good when present however slow at times and hard to get someone's attention, not ideal for a quick meal but great atmosphere and food makes up for it.

18 Nov 2018 - I wanted to try this Thai eatery when I first saw the menu on their website in Oct. This is the first time I dine in at this place, with my family on my special day. This place used to be a bar and restaurant called The Running Bull. It has a modern interior decor with a bit of Thai theme. There is only one entrance and is via Riccarton Road, which leads directly to a service counter. We ordered 5 different dishes; chicken fried rice, sexy little duck, mixed seafood Tom Yum, pad thai yellow noodles (chicken) and herbal [whole] fish. 1/ The chicken fried rice was flavoursome but not spicy and not the best fried rice that I had. 2/ The Tom Yum soup was slightly a let down. It did not have the galangal taste, not sour and not spicy even though I asked for extra hot. However, there were plenty of seafood in the Tom Yum soup. 3/ Pad Thai yellow noodles tasted similar to normal pad thai noodles. But this version was quite sweet and not spicy. 4/ Sexy Little Duck was one of the best and most amazing. It has the curry like taste, salty, creamy and thick gravy. Goes well with rice. 5/ Herbal [whole] Fish. This is the star of the show. Fresh herbs and spices covered the fried fish but not spicy enough. We asked for extra hot but turned out to be mild spiciness and sourness. The only let down is the dishes are not spicy enough even though we asked/ told the waitress that we want it spicy but not the "Thai hot". This is a licensed eatery and you can order the drinks 🍻🍸🍷🍾🍹🍺. There is an outdoor area and smoking 🚬 is [definitely] not inside the building. There are car parks 🅿 at the back of the building which is accessible via Barlett Street off Deans Ave. They accept cash, EFTPOS and credit card payments, for those who want to know. Friendly staff. Would I go back? Maybe 😕. I'll give it another shot. Watch the space, I'll be back. It's only a matter of time 😏. Who knows, the rating might change from three stars to four or five stars. Would I recommend? Maybe 🤔 Food: ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Can't go wrong with Thai food /dishes. Fresh, tasty and delicious 😋. Ambience: ⭐⭐⭐ out of 5. Nice and modern interior deco. Great atmosphere. Price: ⭐⭐⭐ out of 5. Slightly expensive (pricing) compared to other Thai eateries.

Pretty average. I would have liked laksa as a dinner option but it is only available at lunch. We both ordered pad Thai with seafood and the other with crispy pork. Again just okay. Prefer Buddha Stix just up the road.

We had a red curry with chicken, sweet chili fish, two rice and one sticky rice. Absolutely delicious! For 57 NZD in Christchurch, you can't go wrong with that.

Lovely place with a variety of your favourite thai dishes . Had Tom yum and jasmine rice. Delicious as always . Ended with banana fritters . Served with ice cream and cream. Yummy .

I had a Chicken Green Curry, Rotti and Rice. The waitress was lovely and service fantastic. I was in a hurry and they fast paced my order. I'll be going back soon :)
