Had a lunch there on a Sunday for an adult birthday. Pleasent and friendly atmonsphere. Iimited but nice range lunch. Had GF DF and Vegan. We chose Bang Bang chicken Salad GF DF. Falafel Burger Both were scrummy and filling. It has been sometime since I have had a coffee dusted like this one. Thanks Birdwood cafe

Oh my! This has been some of the best food I have had in ages! We had their breakfasts and they were absolutely perfect. On top of that, great coffee. They only have reusable cups at take out, which I fully support. If you don't have one you pay only $3 to borrow a metal one. Fully reimbursed upon return. Amazing service and you can buy their home-roasted beans too. Highly recommend.

Friendly welcoming staff members. Wide variety of menu options, with vegetarian choices, including allergy Friendly options. Delicious food, I chose the cornbeef hash 😋 Do not overlook the cabinet items, because there are daily fresh made salads of a high standard. One of our folk chose a cheese scone, another had a date and cinnamon one , both stated worthy of a repeat tasting 😅 coffee ☕ great, takeaways in a reusable cup. All up, head to Birdwood for a lunch.

I love The Birdwood. The food is 'wow'. Everyone I go with loves the fantastic food and great atmosphere - it's cosy, inviting and the people who work there are lovely. There are lots of tasty gluten free options. Once I took my foodie uncle who lives in France - he absolutely loved his meal and we went back again the next night.

Excellent restaurant and great service! Love the gin menu. We started with the Wairiri Buffalo Mozzarella and it was simple and delicious. The pizza was gorgeous. I had the Fiorentina and each bite was juicy with truffle oil and melted cheese. Wow. The chocolate cake was really rich but not too heavy and gets an honorable mention for my favorite application of hokey pokey crunchies.

4 of us went on a Saturday night; the place was full. It could have been a little warmer, but otherwise I could not fault anything about the evening. The service was great - they gave us plenty of time to make our choices, never at any time made us feel like they were in a hurry. Our entrees were delicious. A good size for sharing, hot if they were supposed to be, cold if not. We were all very happy with our mains. Too much for 3 of us, really nicely cooked and presented, no mad rush to get us finished. Very happy with the evening, we will definitely be back.

We had dinner here with some local friends and really enjoyed it. Salumi Antipasto was great, so was the pizza and everything else. Friendly staff and great service too! We would definitely visit again next time we are in Christchurch:-)

Best thing to ever happen to our neighbourhood. Consistently delicious food, divine drinks menu and friendly service at both the cafe and pizzeria. Not to mention the welcoming atmosphere and cool fit-out. While we're lucky to live nearby, it is more than worth a trip across town. No wonder its busy every day...

Great place for a scone and a coffee in the day (or one of the breakfasts) and an even better place for a pizza in the evening. Not cheap, but the quality of the food shows. I'd recommend the Diavola pizza. Lovely place day or night.

We are so lucky to have this local place to eat, there's always something new on the menu to try. Last night we had the table for an hour and half so we didn't feel hurried - ate more than we normally would... it was worth it! There are also seating arrangements for families and couples/small groups, so everyone is happy. The front of house staff were friendly and helpful, we like to sit at right angles to eat other as I have a quiet voice, (it can't be easy behind a facemask but somehow they still managed to tune into our needs and make us feel welcome). I haven't been keen on going out much during the latest COVID outbreak, but realised how much I missed being taken care of, not leaving it so long next time :-).

Undoubtedly biased as I have worked with the Freeman's for 5 years. They have invested much time and effort into their latest restaurant after leaving Lyttelton. The hospitality is superb, the pizza oven is an amazing installment to what they previously used. The staff are incredible and friendly.

Seafood Linguini and the Lamb Gnocci were just simply delicious! The polenta fries to start off with were nice and crispy on the outside whilst still creamy inside, with lovely rosemary fragrance and tang from the mushroom and Gorgonzola sauce. We'll definitely be back to give the pizza menu a try!

I absolutely love this place! Try the zucchini fries, they are Devine! On Tuesday they have cheaper pizzas and they are so so so good that I am literally salivating thinking about them. The interior aesthetic is very modern and chic. Cannot reccomend this place more. Even better for being tucked away so they will build up a loyal base of supportive and the buzz is building. I rate it in my top 5 restaurants in chch. Thanks guys. And from me to you reading this try this place and if you aren't to full try the tiramisu, heavenly.

Such a good pizza! This is the real place mate, coming from Italy, this pizza made us feel a little bit closer to home. Chips outstanding as well. Staff friendly and great service. Recommend!

Pizza base was amazing as was the pizza in it's entirety, we had the pollo. Pasta was great, we had the chicken, bacon and blue cheese tortellini which as heavy as it sounds came across otherwise, well balanced and a pleasure to eat. Then came the baked mandarin cheesecake with coconut ice cream. Do yourself a favour and get this at the very least. Divine. Just one thing I would change and that is the lighting in the non booth areas, far to bright for a dinner, needs to be softened, otherwise we will definitely be repeat diners.

I am so happy that the Birdwood has opened up in our neck of the woods - it is split into a Cafe and a Restaurant. I went to the Cafe for brunch a while ago and decided on getting the Chicken 'Bang Bang' Salad which was definitely a great choice (as photographed). The Salad reminded me of a cold Pad Thai crossed with a Peanut Satay but without any Rice or Noodles - so delicious!! My friend got the full breakfast and it was a huuuuuge portion that also included a complimentary juice or coffee. I have also tried the restaurant and had their italian woodfired pizza, and arancini balls - best arancini I have had! I would love to try the Lamb Gnocchi next time! Thanks guys!

The Birdwood is a delightful neighbourhood gathering spot - cafe by day, pizza and pasta restaurant by night. We used to walk past it in the evening and notice how it was always full - such a good sign of a great eatery. We've been there 3 times now, and the food has been fantastic each time. It specialises in Italian food, and the pizza bases taste just like pizza bases do in Italy, with wonderfully tasty flavours on top. Tonight we had prawn and crispy bacon. So yummy. Really friendly and efficient service to back up the good food. Always a nice evening out.

Best meal out in a long time! Booked a table for 4 at the Pizzeria to take family from out of town, on a surprisingly busy Tuesday evening. From the starters, to the mains, to the service, all aspects can be complimented. The quality of food preparation was excellent, those in the kitchen clearly love their menu and turn out good looking and delicious dishes. Table service was engaging and attentive. Highly recommend - we will be back!

My husband and I LOVED our meal at The Birdwood. So easy to book online and such a warm welcome when we arrived. The wait-staff were friendly and helpful. We shared an outstanding entree (octopus) and both commented it was the best we'd tasted in a long time. We both had a pizza each - delicious - beautiful flavours and lovely artisan dough. I love this place, it has both a cafe and restaurant. The cafe has a wonderful family atmosphere and a neat little outdoor area (although there's no cover if it rains it outdoor heating). The restaurant has amazing wood fired pizzas. One of my favorite things is the location, just nestled in amongst the community! Also the person across the road has a mini cooper car collection parked on the street so that's something to see!

My son and I had a meal here last night to celebrate his end of year irish dancing show. We had to book last minute so the pizzeria restaurant was full so we had to eat in the cafe part. We had lovely fresh flowers on our table and a nice view by the window. The atmosphere is not as suited to evening dining as the pizzeria part but it was fine as the food and service were great. We had the margarita pizza and fries and it was delicious. The pizza is so authentic and the fries and sauce are delicious. My son had gelato and didn't like the mint flavour but I tried it and was amazing. Will be back again

My friend and I order a variety of nibbles and it did not disappoint. Polenta fries were on point, the stuff courgette flowers were simply amazing along with the homemade chicken pate with fig chutney and lightly toasted bread (delicious) and lastly the stuffed dates were a great mix of sweat verses savoury. As always the coffee is well made and always delivered with a smile. Thankyou Birdwood we'll be back again to try the pizza next.

Tucked away in a quiet residential area. This restaurant is a hidden gem. Fantastic pizza and pasta relatively inexpensive in a cozy relaxing atmosphere. Ideal to place to take a date or have a early dinner before heading out.

I have been to "The Birdwood" few times already. For me, the best Polenta (starter) and Pizza in town. I am a pizza lover and I have to say that they have the best base and ingredients, you won't be disappointed. The environment and service is great. MUST visit if you are in Christchurch.

Opened up their restaurant at lunchtime so the family could share together a delicious lunch with our 90yr old Mother on her special Birthday. Food excellent. Service excellent. But if you don't eat shellfish or Pork the menu only has one option. They have a good ramp for wheelchair access as well.

Overall good experience with the food, hard to find authentic flavors of Italian cuisine yet in Chch. Mainly talking about the restaurant pizzeria as we don't visit the cafe as often. Service could be improved as we didn't feel as welcome when we went back with my nan's partner and a few times after that, also I wish they had checked on me and my partner during meals like they were with tables around us (dunno maybe cause we are young, but I still appreciate a well rounded experience when out to eat and that made me feel they weren't using as much regard because they had more important clients - totally my opinion and feelings). Food is delicious and heavily inspired by Italian cuisine. A bit disappointed that the pizzas have gone up in price gradually, as well as pizza night, and quality decreased a bit having less toppings and chioce. Still very good food and lovely environment, but feels like something genuine is missing that could make this place unbeatable.

First time to The Birdwood and would highly recommend! Lovely cosy ambiance, especially on a wintery, wet evening, and food was delicious. Highly recommend the stuffed dates, Capricciosa pizza, zucchini fries and panna cotta. Also had a very nice Bellini. Husband said the olives, Italiano pizza and Affogato were excellent and he very much enjoyed his Cassell's Milk Stout. Great service. Will definitely be back, although may share a pizza next time and have an extra side plate instead.

We had a nice night at the Birdwood. The food was very good, and I especially recommend the zucchini (courgette) fries. The dates were a little underwhelming as was the ravioli. The pizza we had was really amazing. Service was perfect. All told, a very good evening.

We love The Birdwood! Friendly staff, always a good busy atmosphere, and the food is fab. Favourites are the Puttanesca pizza (GF base is good too!) and the amaaazing chicken meatballs on creamy polenta. Hardest part of dining here is choosing which of those to have. ;)

We love going to The Birdwood as the food is always 10/10. We have just moved to the other side of the city, but will happily take the drive to visit one of our favourite restaurants in Christchurch. For groups the booth seating is perfect, we have celebrated birthdays, anniversaries and even valentines day together with friends.

Had our first meal at the restaurant last week. Superb tortellini, fresh, real food with a delicious creamy sauce. Wonderful arancini balls and olives as a starter. The gluten free cannoli had my daughter singing its praises and our son particularly enjoyed the vegan pizza which had the tastiest plant based "meat" in it ( provided by locals too). Love this place! Would have been a 5 but ..... on finding a hair at the bottom of my lamb dish I mentioned to waitress when asked how meal was and she apologised profusely and offered me a free coffee. All great at this point. However she then returned to advise me that no-one in the kitchen matched the grey curly hair so must have been one of us at the table. She only had to look and see 2 brunettes and a blonde - no curls in sight - to know that was wrong. She should have stopped while ahead - at the apology. Disappointing customer service

Two vegetarian dishes on the menu Falafel Burger and pasta dish. Falafel burger came with polenta fries which was lovely. I prefer polenta fries to chips. Friendly atmosphere and the staff was great. It was a Christmas lunch with 20 people.

One of the best Italian restaurants that I have ever been to. Had a pizza - so delicious. Very comfortable place and their pasta dishes were excellent. Staff happy and helpful. Wonderful local eatery.

Beautiful, nice and shiny cafe. Menu was a tad pricey (for a cafe in a young-family type neighbourhood). Mocha was really special (personal rating 9/10). Delicious flavour without too much sweetness. Will be back to carry out further research and flavour testing to work out how they make it so great.

This place is really amazing. It's a shame it's tucked away on a quiet street, I hope more people get to know it. I've been there twice now with my husband, 1st time I had slow cooked lamb with gnocchi, 2nd time I had salmon, super delicious!!!!! Wish I could give a 100 stars!

My favourite spot. I love stopping for takeaway coffee on my way to work as the coffee is excellent and the staff are very friendly. I have taken family and friends to both the eatery and pizzeria because I wanted to show off this wonderful addition to the Beckenham community and they all agree we have a gem here! We have been back again and again and again and never found a single fault. The pizza choices are amazing and the banana split is scrummy!

Have you ever had sourdough pizza?! No? You need it in your life ASAP. The Birdwood was perfect for a rainy (and hailing) Friday evening. Cozy and packed to the brim, you'll need to be sure to book prior or you'll be turned away. Eggplant starter with whipped ricotta was good, although portion size needs to be looked at.. Pizza was perfect and the sourdough base didn't leave us feeling stuffed or bloated like standard pizza bases. We can't wait to come back here for some pasta.
