Rainy old day and was really busy but worth the wait for great tasting food. Can't look past the avocado smash for brunch. Flavours were awesome. Once again loved the food. Service was great also, as was the coffee.

Beautiful setting, eating lunch on the veranda on a warm sunny day in Christchurch. Excellent service, great food and didn't have to wait long for our lunch, despite it being a busy time. The Vegan Bowl was delicious!!

Sat out side for lunch with a beer and nice view of the gardens. I had the Pitas grilled chicken with tzatziki, hummus, tomato chillies jam and salad, wow this looked amazing and was so delicious. Staff were very friendly thankyou.

I had a 50th brunch - where I ordered sweet and savoury items off a function menu. The food was EXCELLENT, great taste and everyone loved it. There was too much food but I could not decide what to leave off so I ordered more than I should. I was told it would be too much, but the rest came home to the family and was finished. The price was reasonable for what we got. I would definitely have another function here again. Arrange it was easy too. The waitress was always around when we wanted to order drinks.

Come here for a light dinner with my pal, we ordered the onion rings, pork ribs, garden salad, calamari and an "Eton Mess" dessert to share. All gluten free. The food was impeccable, absolutely worth the drive out of town. In my personal top 5 for restaurants in Christchurch - and this was my first time here. Ruby our waitress was kind, attentive and witty. That topped off the memorable experience! Thanks Ruby and staff at the Old Vicarage Cafe. I'll be back.

We had a bottomless breakfast and served by Jamie. Just wonderful. A group of 13 and he managed the lot with perfection, maintained a sense of humour and got all the meals right. Great morning had by all.

Beautiful presentation, excellent service, generous portions, great relaxing background music. And our desserts were devine!! The best vegan dessert I have ever enjoyed!!! Vegan churro donuts with three heavenly dipping sauces- butterscotch, raspberries and whipped coconut cream. Yum!!! I didn't want to share it, but I honestly couldn't have eaten it all myself. Our son enjoyed his stunning white chocolate and lime cheesecake- it looked exquisite. An amazing meal!! 🤩😊😃👍

Never a bad meal! Have been heaps of times over the years for dinner and lunch but decided to try the brekkie menu last week. We had 4 different meals and all were lovely. Coffees and teas were good and the service excellent. Why wouldn't you try it?

Wow! An amazing restaurant with amazing food and amazing staff! Eight of us had lunch in a private room (The Library) today and we all had a great time. The food and the ambiance was fantastic! Very nice place and great ambience.. had breakfast.. typical stuff. A little expensive for 25+ $ for Benedict and coffee.. 2018 ———— That said visited again 2020.. Had egg Benedict. Our main meal was yummy. My Hubby and I shared the platter and be bought enough home for our evening meal. Staff were attentive but what was very disappointing was the fact no one approached us to take our Dessert order. After waiting 15min we decided to go. Absolutely wonderful place for a meal. Set in a beautiful, charismatic old house, the old vicarage welcomes you warmly. Firstly, the staff make you feel most welcome and are extremely polite and professional. Second, the food is simply devine, rich in flavour, and texture. And finally the vic has a warm and wonderful vibe about it. I ordered the pasta of the day, which was beautifully presented and tasted just amazing. Price wise the vic is pretty standard for comparable restaurants although it is superior to its competition. Parking here is great.

We went with a large group for our an evening meal. Great menu and surroundings with attentive and helpful staff. Because of level 2 Covid19 restrictions our party was seated on a veranda area which had clear curtains on the outside and heating. However it was a cool evening with a wind so a bit draughty and cold. Otherwise a great night out.

I have had dinner here twice now, when I've stayed close by. The food is well cooked and beautifully presented. The taste is fantastic, delicious flavours blended to create a dinning pleasure. The Atmosphere is delightful with different areas to dine in depending on your group size. I am looking forward to dinning there again when I am next in Christchurch. The staff are great, very helpful with selection if you are unsure, there is a children's menu for family dinning. It is well worth the visit.

Delicious, generous portions of food, amazingly friendly and helpful service, a warm and inviting atmosphere, what's not to love? We were very impressed with our waitresses and the dude on the counter when we paid - they were helpful and very sympathetic when it came to dealing with my dietary requirements, despite me forgetting to ring beforehand to give the kitchen a heads up. We were very happy with our meal, and left with full bellies :)

OMG Who would have thought "Fish cakes and a side salad" could be this good??? Fish cakes packed with moist chunks of perfectly cooked gurnard and a side salad that was moreish and most definitely not a duty dish. Yum. I went to this place with some foamy members. The food was lovely. What a great place to either have some lunch inside when it's cooler or something outside in the courtyard when the weather is nice. There are private rooms that seat 6-8 people for special occasions like birthdays, etc. I love that they've kept the original layout of the vicarage; it gives it its charm. Delicious food. Had a lunch date with the wife here today and had great food and very friendly service despite us not booking ahead. We had the beef picanha as never seen anything like this on a menu before and it was delicious! Was like a surf and turf with a twist and really reasonably priced. The beef was cooked medium rare which is our favourite but we weren’t asked how we wanted it cooked. Make sure to order sides separately as the mains do not come with them. Will definately be back again.

Lovely place. This is my 2nd time. It has a bar at the back section. The restuarant is situated in the front section and has private rooms for booking. It's a quaint place with a beautiful garden. The food was average. We missed the restaurant hours which closes at 3pm so had to order from the bar menu. Staff were lovely which is wonderful because they very much set the atmosphere of any place.

Greeted by friendly staff, the service was fantastic. I wasn't waiting very long before I was served and the ordering process was quick. My coffee was great, it was definitely one of the nicest I have had here. The pear and walnut tart was a lovely combination of flavours and I think would have been nicer still served warm. The cheese scone however was a total disappointment. I would have called it a soft cheese roll, it resembled something you would get from the supermarket in a multipack. It lacked the consistency synonymous with a scone and although it had grated cheese in it, it was flavourless. If I want a scone and coffee in future, I will be frequenting one of the many establishments whose scones leave you satiated but wanting just a little bit more.

I wish I had taken photos. A building the disguises itself as a tidy cottage house, that is actually spacious and spread out. The food was incredible. I went with a group of four others and we all had different things. The entree are excellent, the variety is great and not just the typical menu you come to expect from restaurants. The Old Vicarage as the name suggests is an old home. So the restaurant/cafe are spread out across the old rooms of the house. As such staff cannot always see you and so service is a little slow. They are friendly and helpful but we were forgotten about a couple of times. The desert options are a little lacklustre but are made to a high standard.

A very timely flyer led us to book our Christmas function for 30 at the Old Vic last Saturday. We booked the lovely outdoor deck area which we had to ourselves and were thrilled to see how beautifully the tables had been decorated. We were greeted by friendly welcoming staff as we came to reception who promptly sent us through to the bar to set up a very successful payment system for the night. The service and food was outstanding. The staff were extremely friendly, caring and helpful and made it a wonderful night for all. Thanks we will be back.

Have been here a couple of times and have had good experiences in the past so was interested to see if it had changed when I returned for a work dinner recently. I was relieved to find it was as good as it has ever been. They had a new menu the night we were there and all of us were impressed with the meals we received. One in our group was particularly delighted with the number of gluten free dishes that were available. Interestingly we were met and seated by what I assume was the same maori lady as mentioned in a previous review. She was lovely and couldn't have been more welcoming despite how obviously busy she was. The service was professional and attentive, our waitress was very accommodating and she made it seem like nothing was a problem. All in all we were very well looked after and had an enjoyable evening. Not only will I be back but I will probably be back more often!

Great setting and some members of the group had great food, I made a poor decision and my choice was nothing spectacular for the money. Pricing is more towards premium, with drinks being exceptionally expensive. A low cost low alcohol fruit flavoured "beer" being $8. No added value anywhere to be had, no free WiFi to keep children entertained whilst waiting etc. Great service by staff and overall an good.

You can guess which one was cold when I tried to keep the meal together by waiting a bit. More importantly, neither the staff members nor invisible 'duty manager' dealt well with my query about the price of tomato. That is, they didn't come back with anything, negotiation, price reduction, extra something to make up for it. This is not the first time I've had unpleasant, scarcely respectful experiences with the younger staff here. I've been coming to vicarage for years, but this feels like last time. Staff are not truly interested in the trade.

Went for dinner here last night and while I like the ambience of this place, I'm sorry to say the mains weren't up to scratch. My main of monkfish wrapped in bacon was slightly undercooked and very greasy. It came with tasty potatoes but no veggies. My partner ordered the haloumi salad which was okay but not better than a salad you can order at any cafe for $15 less. The deserts were very nice though. Our waiter was very friendly but never asked us if we wanted to order some more drinks after our first one and never refilled our water glasses until I asked. The girl who 'welcomed' us when we arrived was far from friendly. All in all, a lovely place with overpriced food for what you get. I don't think I'll be back.

My wife and I went to this restaurant for lunch, we booked the night before and on arrival found there to be no booking but this was not a problem as were was a table but it was in a corner. The person who meet us was not very friendly. We ordered the eggs beni and steak sandwich. The eggs beni was not that great as the bread was very dry and not the usual muffin base and there was very little Hollandaise sauce so I was not greatly happy with it. My wife found the steak to be very chewy and the bread also quite dry. The only really nice part were the chips, very pleasant. Not a p[lace I would return for another meal. Shame as the surroundings were very pleasant and the waitress was perfect. Maybe a little more thought to the detail and less on the quantity of patrons may be better. More like pub food than quality food. If that is what you like you will enjoy it.
