As a Sichuan native, I could tell this shop was authentic just be checking what was on their menu, can’t go wrong. And it’s great value too, will be back a lot.

Fabulous Sichuan good in a chill atmosphere. Fed family of five for less than $60. Awesome

I always love coming here. The food is actually authentic tasting, and super good, not just overly sweet or salty stuff like at other Chinese places. The noodles are freshly made and so yum, and the staff are lovely. I can come here with meat eating friends and vege friends and everyone enjoys their meal each time. Some of the food is on the spicier end, so if you have friends who love spice, bring them! I guess I wish maybe some of the dishes had more vegetables included, but you can just order them on the side. The interior isn't exactly fancy, but I go there for that amazing food lol. And the dumplings! Mm!!

Absolutely amazing food and we can't wait to go back!
We went to Chengdu, Sichuan province in China a couple of years ago and has been missing the food ever since. I was so excited when I found The Sichuan Kitchen when searching for 'dan dan noodles in chch'. We went on a Saturday night and there were quite a few other tables of people, really nice atmosphere.
We got the A1 Sichuan boiled dumplings with chilli sauce, B1 dan dan noodles, R2 mapo tofu, H1 spicy sliced chicken, S1 pita pocket with dry beef. We chose original level of spice, which was hot for some of the dishes, but still super tasty. Each of the dishes had its own delicious, unique but truly Sichuan flavour and we struggled to pick favourites. Each one reminded us of what we ate in China and I couldn't help but smile as I tried each new dish and was instantly transported back to Sichuan. If I had to pick a favourite, maybe the spicy sliced chicken or the dumplings. Although I will definitely get the beef pita picket and the dan dan again. The lady who served us (and I think runs it with her husband) said that they have to air freight the spices in from Sichuan. Their dedication to real Sichuan flavours shows in the food.
Thank you so much for making this food available to us in Christchurch. We are very lucky. Looking forward to trying the rest of the menu!

The food is amazing, Dan Dan noodles and vegetable and pork buns are delicious. The dumplings are wonderful and the noodle soup. Good prices too. We came here today and have been coming here since they opened. A+++ service and top quality food. Thank you:)

Totally enjoyed our visit to Sichuan Kitchen, it's a hidden gem.
Spacious and clean.
Very helpful service, looks to be run by a family.
The food is excellent, the menu has many options not seen everywhere, the taste was to die for.
If your not sure what to get try one of the chefs specials gives you a slightly smaller version of 3 or 4 things.
Prices are very reasonable allowing you to try many dishes.
BYO wine $5, beers are $8'ish.
We had BYO wine, bought 3 beers and had 7 dishes which cost around $70 and was heaps of food with some left to take home.

Lovely food and staff in a basic space. There was a phenomenal delay when we visited, but the staff were very apologetic about it, and I think it was just a one-off.

A wonderfully authentic Sichuan restaurant in Christchurch! Travelling here from Chengdu, and it is great to have have some spicy and delicious Sichuan food. The restaurant is cosy and comfortable, and the hospitality is wonderful. The owners, Jennifer and Jeremy, are super friendly and happy to talk you through the menu in great detail. Their knowledge of Sichuan cuisine is extensive, they really know what they’re doing here!
