E.Food here was really yummy. Great portions, pork juicy and tender big bits of meat, lots of sauce. Kimchi tasted different than usual Korean restaurants so must be a different type (be aware of this if you're a kimchi lover!). Also they start you with hot barley tea not water.
What let it down was the service which was a shame. The server seemed annoyed and almost like she wanted to tell me not to dine when I said I was by myself and didn't have a booking (there was maybe 2 tables there and 2 more as I ate so not full at all). She was curt with me when I asked for water as I "had to get it myself" but the other server bought me some as she must be overheard. The food was very good but the service stops me from going back. Perhaps they will be nicer if I'm not by myself.
J.If you're looking for an accurate representation of Korean food, this is somewhere I would strongly recommend. The food here is great and I cannot think of many places in town that does Korean food better. The owners are friendly and the food is served faster than most other restaurants.
v.Food is amazing, spicy chicken and tofu noodle soup with rice wine. Asked for extra spicy, championed to finish it, thankfully rice wine was a delicious neutraliser.
Highly recommended, the 6 free side dishes are the same traditional Korean ones, Kim che, lotus etc. Delicious, will come again.
Finally the seafood pancake is one of the best of its types, comparing with other Korean restaurants we have tried.
T.Miss the food here, especially the squid stirred fried with korean spicy sauce and the pork rib. Yummm! Always feel welcomed and well taken care of!!

S.Best Korean seafood dishes - I am coming back for Hwangtae-tang (Dried pollock soup) and Galchi jorim (Spicy braised hairtail). The latter is possibly only available at TJ, nowhere else in ChCh.
S.I love TJ's! I'm from Christchurch and spent 3 years in South Korean in 2001 to 2003, whenever i go to TJ's the food takes me back to the wonderful times and memories i had there. It has a great atmosphere and delicious food. Kudos, to the chefs. Another reason is the owners / proprietors, are so friendly, plus +++ and this my personal feeling, it is not pretentious in anyway. M.Good customer service, served by an older lady she was quite friendly and accommodating. Food however was just average. Had the pork bone soup ($17) with lacked flavour. Had better at other restaurants in Church corner and windmill. The tofu stew ($15) was a small portion and on the photo showed lots of seafood however struggled to find it - only a few very small mussels and the soup also lacked much flavour, not worth the price. Side dishes weren't very exciting, the kimchi was not fermented still raw, have had better side dishes are other places. Overall was a pleasant experience, not sure if we just had bad luck that night with the chefs, but would still choose the Church corner restaurant over this one.
I.We go to this place often and have at least 1/2 of their menu, all of which is delicious.
Reminds me of good homestyle cooking (we are not korean, the food just gives us that feeling).
The portions are pretty big, considering we can never finish everything on the table, and what ever you order it always comes with 6 side dishes which are always fresh and clean tasting.
Staff and owners are super friendly and efficient. Can’t ask for more and pretty reasonable prices also, always under $20 a person. Have tried many other Korean restaurants, but always come back to this one.

s.Used to be better the quality had slipped majorly. A few parking available at rear disable entrance, two high chairs available, chairs are slightly lower or the tables are slightly higher toddlers need to sit on 2 chairs stack up to be high enough if the high chair is unavailable. Most dishes are okay, yeechon is preferred but this place is better for larger group and booking.
M.Busy place. But is very tired looking inside and it was cold inside everyone was still wearing jackets & coats. Food was only just ok. Meat was chewy but had flavour. Good prices and easy parking around behind the building. Don't think we would return. Too many other great places.
