Absolutely lovely! Strongly recommend this buffet. We had a lovely mean and all the food was great. The ribs and the chicken bites definitely need improvement but overall we had a great time and most certainly will be going again!

We were there for our anniversary dinner date. The venue and smorgasbord style of dining suited our date as we had to go out to another event and we were able to set a time to finish as there was no waiting for ordered food to be cooked. Our lovely waitresses were very friendly and helpful and the food selection was excellent. There was a wide range of dishes, from soups and entrees, through salads and cold vegetables, to hot dishes, and a selection of foods that the chefs would cook on the spot. There was a selection of roast meats in the carvers, all sorts of delicious pots of cooked dishes, and the dessert table was mouth- watering, and did not disappoint. Thank you to our waitresses for making our evening more enjoyable. Though a little pricey for us oldies, the food and service were, in my opinion, worth every cent!

Food was very good, lots to choose from, staff were all polite and great service. The reason for 3 stars is due to pricing and advertising of their alcohol and the fact the staff appear to be trained incorrectly on how to serve it. EG: drinks menu states spirits are served as a double for $9.50, now a standard spirit drink is 30 ml (refer to Alcohol.org.nz) so a double should be 60 ml, my husband was driving he ordered a single (30ml) spirit scotch and coke. We discussed the drinks with the barmaid who also took our payment and she stated that at Valentines a double is 30ml and 15ml is a single, cool drinking even less before driving, but on checking the bill we were charged at the advertised double price. Now Valentines and other hospitality places may say what's the fuss, to me it is not good practice to charge full price on something that you ordered to be half a drink but as we found it was only 15ml/half a nip and to advertise the spirits as doubles when they are not.

We had a dinner on ANZAC DAY. Staffs are very friendly and good service. We enjoyed our food and l will invite our friends when we come back again. Highly recommend it. Thank you to all Valentines staffs 😍

It was a cozy restaurant with good choice of foods. Great desert options However, I had better experiences in other buffet restaurants with lower price. A little pricy and the salad bar could be better. Not a great place for vegetarians.

Message for the owners please pass on: This evening my son and I came in for dinner after what had been a very eventful day involving my son just a matter of hours earlier ending up at the drs for slicing his finger open. From the moment we arrived we felt happy and welcomed. We’re promptly seated offered drinks and explained how things worked. The food was simply divine. My son especially loved the pink panther drink and chocolate fountain. It was so good to see the restaurant busy and full of happy people. The two waitstaff that we saw on were friendly polite and professional. Regularly checking on us (without it being too regular) promptly clearly empty plates and glasses. I would like to give special mention to the main staff member that seated and served us throughout the night, Briar, she was happy, smiling and just made us feel truly welcomed. From start to finish she was amazing and I couldn’t fault her service. If tipping was a thing in New Zealand we definitely would have tipped her so instead we thought we would send a message to the owners. So to Briar and all the amazing staff on this evening thank you for turning what had been a very scary rough day into something amazing. We will definitely be back.

I've had lunch at Valentine's, Hornby, Christchurch on 2 occasions in the past 2 weeks. The photo I've uploaded is from last Friday. Hubby & I hadn't been here for quite some time before then. If you're planning to come here, I'd recommend coming early as there is very limited parking on site. Alternatively, there is 180 minutes parking a short walk away. Friendly customer service on arrival. We hadn't booked any table but that wasn't a problem. The waitress we had on both Friday's was the best waitress ever - friendly, accommodating, cleared dishes away promptly & she had a good sense of humour. She provided the best waiting service we've had in a long time. A good variety of food to accommodate for all tastes e.g. meats, salads, seafood chowder, soups, cheese board, desserts, large chocolate fountain, ice cream machine, soft drinks, tea & coffee etc. All of our meal selections were really nicely cooked. The only exception was the lemon chicken which was overcooked & dry. So pretty darn good for only one dish (to not be good) out of well over 20 different dishes that we tried. Compliments to the chef & team - you all did a fantastic job!!! It was good to see that they had a chef frequently topping up & checking all the dishes. The chefs were nicely presented in their chef uniforms. The restaurant was kept nice and tidy with the waiter & waitress circulating on a regular basis to clear dishes, top up water & check that everything's ok with customers. One major thing that I would ask Management to consider is the seating arrangements. The tables are placed way too close to each other. Customers are crammed in like sardines and you almost feel like you're part of another tables conversation, because you're sitting so close to one another. If it's not so busy, perhaps space your customer's out by placing them at every second table so there's a gap between tables. When you're really busy open up into the other room/s which I think you may use for conferences/private functions. If they're not in use, then why not make them available to your customers. It would definitely make for a better overall dining experience. Overall we had a really good dining experience at Valentine's. We thought it was a bargain for $26 per person for lunch, especially with the wide variety of choices. We'll definitely be going back! (but not 3 weeks in a row lol 😆). Thanks Valentine's, Hornby.

Not amazing, but not terrible. Service was great but food offerings could have been better... Mac and cheese was literally pasta in a bland thick cheese sauce - I'd expected a bit better. There was a.curry available but couldn't locate any rice to have with it.

There wasn't a great selection but I found the selection they did have suited almost every taste range. The customer service was a little lacking and I felt most of them seemed a little stressed/unhappy in a way that would be projected more as a roll on effect from management than the actual waitstaff themself.. I feel the price was fairly high for quality/service but would attend again if I was invited for a birthday or event.

We went today (8/4/2021) for lunch with an other couple and really enjoyed the food. The staff were very pleasant especially Taz who came to our table and answered clearly all our questions. The service was great and empty plates were cleared rapidely. It is the 3rd time we have been and definitely will go back. The food is superb, fresh, well presented and a great choice. The price was very reasonable and good discount for pensioners. Excellent value for money .Well done and see you again soon.

A good spot if you are super hungry. The service was very good and the food looked fresh and well stocked on all parts of the buffet. They had a cold cuts section (cheeses, meats, olives, side seaweed salad, other side salads), breads and dips section, sides section (curries, veggies, potatoes, battered meats dishes), and - my favorite - a carving/steak station (carved chicken, ham, and steak-to-order). Will definitely try to go back the next time I'm in Chch!

The food was okay, not amazing. A good mixture of selections but not a huge amount of selection compared to other buffets. I like the fact the chef will on top of your buffet cook you a fresh steak the way you like it. The food was pretty tasty with minimal duds, fast turn over of fresh food. But what it lacks in choice it makes up with very friendly and helpful staff, everyone went out of the way and went well out of their way to give us good service. I had heard really positive things about this place so decided to try it. Firstly i felt it was dear for a lunchtime at $26 but i see other restaurants are charging same. Are we paying for lack of tourists? Not fair if so. Meals appeared promising. Butter chicken was yummy till i got two mouthfuls of grissle and bone. There was a warning of bones. But why not use chicken breast instead? Tried a beef goulash which smelt yummy but three mouthfuls in i had to spit it out cos the chef had not cut off the fat! Tried choc cake for pudd. Very nice with cream. Wasnt too happy with $7 for unlimited fizzy tho. As an elderley person im not going to drink that much... one petson dining with us who loves cream freeze couldnt eat it cos of the ice all thru it. Maybe they can look at improving that. service and atmosphere excellent. Rest room lovely and clean and staff polite and well dressed. If only it was $5 cheaper lol

Yummy, tasty lunch on Saturday. Really nice, friendly staff. Food was great. Lots of variety and different flavours. Alot of effort had gone in to certain dishes. A birthday balloon and signed card from the staff was on the table for my Sister. A nice touch. Highly recommended for sure. Will go back for dinner to try the steak and ribs...... I had fish bits, butter chicken, salads pasta rice which was very nice but there was no plain rice to have with butter chicken plus no larger pieces of crumbled fish no whole plain potatoes or roasties. Cream freeze was not the best more like frozen milk not very creamy, fruit moose was lovely brandy snaps were lovely, sherry trifle had almost no sponge or sherry.. I did enjoy what I had but they need more selections I will go back. After the meal I was going to go into the slot machine room but the cash machine couldn't read my card so no cash, will take cash next time. Waitress was lovely couldnt have been more helpful.

Although the one at Hornby has a separate dining area. Food was good and pretty fair choice. This is a place to go when really hungry.

The food was very average and mac cheese is simple to make from scratch but it was packed made that tastes like vomit. The food selection was pretty poor and some stuff on their menu wasnt even there. Very expensive for what it is. Garden restaurant shirley 100% next time.

I came here when it first opened in Hornby and then three more times after that with different groups. Tonight will be the first time returning in just under a year for a 18th birthday. Why Valentine's? It caters for everyone! I mean everyone. The quality of food never slipped and you'd expect teething problems when a place first opens. I looked at reviews before coming here and found it to be mixed. After coming here myself, I cannot complain. It caters for the young and old and in betweeners. The only draw back seating is tight. However.. all you can eat for $40.00 you cant beat it. See yous tonight!

Same price as Christchurch Casino but lots better food and service. Bottomless soft drinks and complimentary coffees. Engaging staff who recommended courses and they got it right. This is a go back to restaurant definitely. Only got 4/5 stars as it was self service. Except for the grill/cook to order which was delivered to your table when ready.

The food seemed okay to us. The Coke taste was abysmal and I doubt that it"s the real thing. Both regular and sugar free were bad. Our waitress seemed unable to smile and I hope that she's found one since. The reuse of cheap hard plastic dessert containers seemed of little value towards hygene in a Covid world especially. I could not see how they could properly be cleaned and sterialised in boiling water or steam.

Went for my birthday after many years of waiting for this classic kiwi buffet restaurant to reopen and they did not disappoint. A much cleaner, yummier new and friendly restaurant with an awesome vibe and superb customer service including balloons and a card for birthday people. You dine free on your actual birthday which was lovely and they have an amazing assortment of seafood, meats and cheeses, kids food and authentic dishes with spicy chicken wings, noodles, sweet N sour neat balls, fresh beef and lamb plus the delectable selection of desserts next to a chocolate fountain surrounded by kiwi favourites to dip in such as Eskimos and marshmallows plus fresh fruit and jellybeans. Delicious chocolate desserts too and fudge sauce to pour on your soft serve ice cream... I'm going back twice this month. The best buffet in Chch
