Our little Dunedin has some outstanding dining options for the size of our population. This is another one of those fine dining place with a Scottish flavours. Very well presented food with multiple complimentary flavours on each plate. The courses keep rolling and the flavours keep dancing on your palate. Love the lounge as well. Wish had more people in the restaurant to justify what this couple can deliver from their culinary repertoire

The place, people and presentation were top notch.
I was hungry, so went for the 8 course. It was all very beautiful to look at, but missed the super yum melt in your mouthness, I expect from these types of menus.
The pork belly/ Chop was super tough, but the black pudding scone was super flavorful. My venison was cooked nice but still super chewy. I loved the consumé w the fish but the fish was a tad dry
Maybe that's how those meats are supposed to be.
I love a good creme brulee, but their oatie version seemed a bit dry.
Again, everyone was lovely and I wanted to love it, but didn't.

This is fine dining with a warm galic heart. Beautiful, clever, pretty and superbly tasty food which is also hearty so you don't go home hungry. The owners are a perfect pair, he chefs and she looks after her guests. Their story is on their walls and in their food and the story is very worth reading. We will be back again and again.

Overall experience was fairly average.
Food was underwhelming, service was okay and despite saying we had a peanut allergy I still managed to be served peanut brittle for dessert.
We tried to come from the George Street entrance (in June) and it was closed and we had there was no indication to go around!?
Once we found the restaurant we were taken from the main area into a sitting room with not much indication of what was going on. It was uncomfortably odd.
We came for the set-menu as advertised on the website but were told in restaurant that they forgot to update that they weren't doing that as per the current situation.
Once seated in the main dining room, the lack of sound buffers made a mostly empty room rather jarring.
The vegetarian entree was a mess, the mains looked nice but lacked basic seasoning and portion sizes weren't exactly filling.
Dessert served up peanuts despite saying we had an allergy, but easy enough to recognize it stairing back at me. Meringue overly eggy and the panna cotta was just not working at all.
Probably not going to go back for the set-menu when it's back.
The hosts were lovely though, putting it down to some miscommunication and an off night.

The restaurant isn't that easy to find, just keep an eye out for a white house with a B on the menu by the front door. There are no other signs outside to tell if its a restaurant. The dining area inside was cosy enough, particularly the back end.
We almost missed eating here because the booking wasn't confirmed. We had an email going and it sounded like everything was finalised but it turns out they call you (I had a missed call but didn't know who it was) to do a final confirmation (which was never mentioned). The only reason we were able to stay was because they had a cancellation. Turns out they only buy enough food for the number of bookings for the night so there are no walk-ins at all.
The service was friendly. The food was ok. Some courses were better than others. The potato and leek dish along with the Eve apple were the stars of the evening. Didn't like the sauce on the fish but everything else was alright. The lamb was good but the portion was a bit small.
Food and service was good but the initial mess up tainted the whole evening for me.

Dunedin does have a fine dining experience 1st class warm setting staff are perfect host and the courses and whiskey top notch.

Based on my experience from 2017:
One of the best degustation restaurants i have visited. Staff were very welcoming and friendly. Service was superb and on time.
Food was super delicious and we loved the experience. Our family from India enjoyed their 1st degustation with the best in town.
You girls are doing a fantastic job. Keep it up and good luck!

We had a lovely night out for our work do. Very accommodating staff and a delightful experience of Scottish fine dining.

we were sad because we were near the end of a ten-day getaway in the south.
This beautiful restaurant was the icing on the cake of a wonderful trip.
The food was a degustation-style approach to Scottish fare, served by wonderful staff, with a selection of local beer, wine and of course Whisky, that matched our meals perfectly.
If you want to have a civilised night out in peaceful charming surroundings with great food, then I highly recommend a meal at bracken

Robbie Burns night, 5 course with matching whiskey, piping in the haggis. Superb food and evening.

Loved every course. Would highly recommend.

We had a lovely meal at Bracken tonight and great service from the husband (chef) and wife (front of house) team. I was rightly concerned that the tasting sized menu would be small ( we arrived hungry after a big bike ride which is not ideal for fine dining) and they were indeed 3xbite-size portions. However, the plates of food were exquisite and delicately flavoured, especially the chef’s take on Haggis and the chocolate dessert course. This would be a special occasion restaurant for me in future and I’d plump for the 8 plates rather than the 4. It’s situated in an old villa and the atmosphere is calm and the dining room tastefully decorated. The Scottish background music added to the ambiance.

Our group of 7 had a most delightful evening and enjoyed beautiful food that was not only a feast for the eyes, but also for the soul and the body! Laura, the waitress was so charming, witty and intelligent. And we also had the pleasure of meeting the hosts - whose heart and skill was in the food! One of those very special nights - the memory of which will always make me smile : )

Interesting place. Theres a choice between an 8 course menu and a 4 course, we chose the latter because we didn't think we could manage 8 courses. Scottish themed so we chose the haggis entree and it was superb. The mains are top notch, excellent quality of meat and wonderful flavors. The sorbet was interesting and then we had the highlight of the evening, the deserts. The orange steamed pudding was to die for. The queen of puddings, ditto. Ideal for a cold winters night. I went with the wine matching option for an extra $45 and it was well worth it. Would go again, and next time I'd be tempted to try the 8 course option.

Amazing food and service! My fiancé and I dined here tonight, the first time for both of us. Food was absolutely divine and service was fabulous! When advised upon booking that I was vegetarian, the staff were more than happy to oblige and at one point my partner even had food envy. Would absolutely dine here again, we opted for the four course and a bottle of wine and I feel the price was very reasonable for the experience. See you next time :)

One of the best restaurants I have been to. Great options, very beautiful plating, maybe could of given a little more for the 4-course meal, but I must say this place is truly hard to fault. If you don't like small amounts of food, I wouldn't recommend, but if you love elegant food and enriching flavours, definitely a place to visit in Dunedin.

It's been a few months, but we came here for a business dinner w/ ~18 or so guests and had a truly WONDERFUL evening. The service was impeccable, food was delicious, and the owners responsiveness before the event (in planning all the details) was on point. Absolute 10/10, highly recommend you visit (would be perfect for a romantic night out) :-)

Lovely atmosphere and service, but the menu on the website and pricing are out of date.
I’m a tiny eater but the portions are extremely small.
I’m unable to post a photo, but my main meal was fish with prawns and broccolini the fish was so small it was obscured completely by the prawn garnish.

Sublime - starters, steaks and service. A must!

WoW what an experience... This is a must do in Dunedin absolutely sensational 💫

Beautiful atmosphere, fantastic food, and perfect service. Couldn't be happier with our experience. Enjoyed it from when we first walked in to our last bite.

The food here is amazing. Get at least 7 courses because the lemon dessert is to die for (and is only in the 7 or 9 course menus)
Some courses will challenge your palette, but everything is done very well. Completely new menu (except for the lemon dessert) every 2 weeks.
J.
Amazing 5 course tasting menu and they tailored it to be vegan. It didn't taste like a "substitute" menu at all- hats off to the kitchen! Also impeccable service. Thanks for a great experience!
E.
Okay 4.5 stars! We had the 9 course menu. Few faults, overall very good. Fish a bit over cooked. However looses 1/2 star due to the dessert- we had the apple dessert which was beautifully presented but the stalk was created by something that was horrible to eat! I think the chef needs to try this as everything else was spot on but nasty taste to whatever that apple stalk is made from! One other suggestion- please put a watch the step sign on way to bathroom. I very nearly had an injury from the unexpected step.

Excellent food but we left feeling a little hungry, we went in the winter and it wasn't warm enough. Not good value, I have had plenty of tasting menus, but this 1 was just too small on the portion sizes.

Ken O'Connell is an Irish chef who relocated to New Zealand in 2007, and since then he has become something of a celebrity, having won the "Chef of the Year" title twice (most recently in 2013). He has just opened his own restaurant in Dunedin, in a lovely old house near the centre that he has renovated and turned into a beautiful dining establishment.

Just had a fabulous 5 course meal with matching wines. The food was just amazing, service impeccable. Overall a great experience. Worth it. ☺

Great atmosphere and very well presented and tasty dinner
G.
Great food although as is typical of degustation meals the dishes were quite small. The dishes were delicious with a variety of flavours which complemented each other very well.
P.
An authentic Scottish experience with contemporary twist.
S.
The location and staff are great! We chose the 4 course menu and the taste was really good but the portions were to small.
