Great place to enjoy great beer. This iconic outlet is very busy and today was no different. Got seated on the booth with water and then no one came for a long time till we grabbed attention of a rushed wait staff. After that the service was impeccable. Thrice cooked chips were yum, fish was cooked well and the slaw was fresh, though lacking some zest. Kumara fritters were soaked in a thick sauce that was well flavored, however, the fritters lost its crunchy texture. Baos were good. The vegetarian salad with cheese was very average lacking good dressing. The place is very busy and most people swallow the food on offer with mind blowing beers this place brews.We came in for decent food so felt a bit disappointed.

One to put on your list in Dunedin. Great beer selection and brewery experience and even better food. Not your usual brew pub grub. Will be back!!!

A great night out... good food, friendly service, and fantastic beer. The Popcorn Prawns, Chille Salt Squid and Buffalo Wings with Blue Cheese sauce were amazing.

Emerson's Brewery had a great atmosphere, so lively and inviting. Morgan was our waiter, he listened to all our annoying menu questions with patience and enthusiasm. The food was crazy good with really nice favor combinations! Overall a great experience, definitely coming back and recomending to our friends!

Tried the tasting board and was pleasantly surprised at the quality of the beer!! - the food was and service was also excellent especially for during covid - just a shame that the pub tour was unavailable as we would have done it. Will be going back!!

The roasted eggplant is so good! Amazing place and nice service!

Great alcohol range, obviously. There was glass on my seat which cut me but the staff were very lovely and helped clean me up super fast. My Korean BBQ chicken burger was delicious but slightly heavy on the sauce so missed out on some of the great kimchi flavour. But really good atmosphere overall 😁

A great spot for a beer and a meal. Wanted to do a brewery tour but only had time for a quick bite. Food was really good, great to see a place like this not going for the easy deep fried options for everything. Had the Brisket and the thrice cooked fries. The brisket was really well done. Nice and smokey with pork croquettes underneath and a great bite from the picked onion and sauces. The fries need no explanation. Just great. And of course the beer is very good. Staff were very attentive but not rushed or rushing which was awesome. A brewery execution like this can very easily be done badly but this place was great, modern, good food, good beer and nice people. Will definately be back. Congrats to the team.

Yeah not a bad joint to go and grab a meal with a group of mates. Food is pretty pricey which is why it's not 5 stars. In my honest opinion also the beers here are alright but how can you past the bird dog which is obviously the best one. Pickle

Emerson's is great brews and craft beers. Love to visit their brew bar, Restaurant. Great selection of bites, food amd drinks. Lookout for season brews. Beer lovers must visit.

Just went in for a beer and a quick bite. Was reccomeneded the poutine and it didn't disappoint. A little salty but delicious washed down with a fresh beer. Fantastic set up.

The restaurant really surprised. Delicious food, great portion sizes and of course some of the best beer in the country. We had to wait for a table which is always a good sign. No problem. Just sit by the fire and enjoy a beer. Too easy. Attentive staff with that no nonsense Otago service. First rate. My only slight criticism is that a green salad wouldn't go amiss on the menu.

Amazing atmosphere and excellent service. Super impressed with the triple cooked fries! Had a rib eye and so did my girlfriend. The steaks were decent but a bit on the chewy side and hers a bit more cooked than asked for (medium rare). Nonetheless a nice meal. When we got our food, our side dish didn't come out and had to ask for it. When they realised the dish had been forgotten they quickly had it made and said they would take if off the bill. I had an Emerson's London Porter to drink and loved it. The thing that really stands out was great service despite the momentarily forgotten side dish which didn't matter much at as they had it out very fast! The presentation of the main dish was better than the picture. I took it after I had dug into it 😊

Good beers, fast service! The portion sizes are large- their macaroni, and Buffalo wings are my favorite.

We had the steak main, fish market main and the squid. Om freak'n g the meals were so delicious so much punch so much flavor with each plate. Top fav though has to be the squid the salad partnered with it is so unbelievable sooooo damn good. Service was spot on, super fast to be served our food, display of food perfect, sitting arrangements perfect, we would definitely go back and highly reccomend

Bought some beer from a retailer that appeared to be off. Can happen with craft beers if not stored properly. Emailed brewery. Thomas was amazing. Such a pleasure to interact with somebody who goes the extra mile to put things right. Thomas- I hope they're paying you well, you deserve it. Highly recommended.

First time here for me. This place has been super popular since opening in Dunedin. The dining area is relaxed, open and has lots of different seating options which is great. The staff were lovely. We had the Pork Baos for a starter @ $17 for 3 they were worth every doller 😍 so yum and full of flavour but don't reccomend ordering these if your on a date because you end up with black stuff all over your teeth from the charcoal buns! I had the Tandoori Chicken ($30) for main which was alright, nothing to complain about but if you have any level of cooking skill you could easily whip this up at home. The kumara and onion bhaji seemed to be missing some spices and flavour though. Sis had the Braised Lamb Neck ($33) this was beautiful. Full of so many rich flavours and the meat was just falling apart. The vegetables were all well done and covered in the rich gravy. Cant wait to come back and try some more of the menu !

Cracking building and really great fit-out. Would have loved to do a tour but got held up on the road. the best dining experience in the country. Simple, but delicious, really good quality ingredients and wonderful presentation puts them a solid cut of beef above the general pub-faring competition. Good value on the beers, and they offer some beers in-house that you won’t find at your corner bottle shop. As with every place in NZ great, friendly staff. Keep at it. The beer and food gods are proud of you.

I am from Christchurch and I often come to Dunedin with my family. Tonight is the 2nd time we've been to this place. Had an amazing brewery tour and tasted really nice beers. Great venison burger and great beers. Last time we came was in June and my dad and I had the fish and chips. They are also really good as well. The staff were also very friendly. However the only drink missing from the range is a cider. A cider would just complete it!

Came here for lunch on a busy day. Plenty of seating indoors and outdoors. The service was excellent and very helpful. We ordered the thrice cooked chips, squid and chicken wings. All three dishes were fantastic. I had the tasting flight of beers which you can choose from their many different varieties. I liked the separate area to refill or buy riggers that is near the main door. Great atmosphere for couples of a family.

With the charismatic guide, the tour around the brewery was insightful and fun. And the beer tasting lineup was the right way to end the tour on a high note.

Nice & cozy ambiance, big variety of different beers (which all, I’m sure, are delicious), food was okay. Didn’t go for a big meal, more towards snacks & nibbles, but the so called “american style” chicken wings were not quite how I remembered them back in the US. Wish they were cooked for a bit longer to make them nice & crispy. Bread & dip plate was big, but lacked a bit of seasoning. Everything else was good. Worth visiting.

Went there as a group found the eating erea to be poorly heated . 10 people creamed round an 8 setting table service was mediocre at best and almost all of us remarked how bad or badly cooked the meals were. Very disappointed ☹️☹️☹️

Great atmosphere, very relaxed setting both the garden and inside. The beer selection can be a bit overwhelming, get a paddle and try a few. The food is exceptional.

We had lunch there today. Just really average and food was pretty bland. Kids spag bol was very dry with not a lot of sauce. Watermelon salad could have been amazing but the watermelon had been soaking in dressing so was soggy with no flavour left. Nothing would make me go back unfortunately! Would have shared my feedback but wasn't asked when I paid up.

Good food great service everyone was lovely. Only complaint , I had steak, cooked to perfection , but really needed something green to offset fatty chips. You can order sides but at as steak was $35 thought asking for an extra $9 dish was a tad cheeky. Minor detail , wouldn’t stop me going back

We went on the tour. Highly, highly recommend, John is lovely and informative. Best beer in the world. Haven't had a beer this good since before Redhook (USA) sold out to Budweiser. Good on you, Emerson's and Lion for not messing it up!!!

Regular customer here. Good place to go for an afternoon beer. On average 35 minute wait on food. Quite pricey.

I found it rather strange how many drinks they were selling, it’s not as if they’re a brewery or anything. Other than the alcoholism the macaroni cheese was excellent! Would recommend to anyone wanting a bit of a part-tay 😂😂, not the best place to relax in. Completely unsure over why it’s so popular as it’s so bad, but because of all the people in such a clotted area you can’t even hear yourself think!!

My friend Roz and I though we would try out Emerson's Brewery for a meal. The atmosphere was perfect. Service was excellent and the staff friendly and willing to help. The wine list was extensive. There is a variety of seating options to suit different people. We both had sea food that was well presented to appease the appetite. And of course very tasty. We were having such a great night and forgot the time. Also has good parking with Invalid access parking. Excellent experience.

Went there with friends for lunch Food amazing 3 had fish and chips and 1 for mac cheese. Good size meals and excellent service Would 100% recommend it. The setting was pleasing and will definitely be back

My husband loved the tasting tray of six beers. The food and service were fantastic. The chips that came with my perfectly cooked steak were the best I've ever eaten.

Emerson's Brewery is a classic Dunedin institution. Even if you're not into beer (like me) the tours are interesting, the buildings warm and inviting, and the food is good. I recommend the adults mac & cheese, and the beer batter fish and chips. Possibly the venison burger too. The beers differ according to your taste - I prefer the Orange Roughy.

Steak was great, I have no idea what anything else was like because I only eat steak when I go out to eat. Like a real man. Kudos to the bar tender who managed to sort out my tab for four people. She was a real man too but with different chromosomes. Respect brother.

Great food and service. Very reasonably priced. Had the brisket followed by plum tart. Fantastic along with two really good beers. Bookbinder and Porter on nitro. I would place the nitro porter as one of the best I've had. Definitely coming back here when in dunedin next

A great atmosphere, friendly staff, great selection of beers and wines, and awesome food. A great place to meet up after work, before a game or function, or just to hang out with family and friends.

A great place to try some new brews or just have something to nibble. A great spot outside in the summer or inside by the fire when it gets a bit colder. If you don't want to stay, just fill up some riggers in the taproom and head to your own party.

Having met Richard Emerson personally, I could never imagine how retro yet modern his brewery/bar would be. The brisket was really good and as for the bar, there is and a to z for the hard tack. The range of Emerson beer will satisfy any beer connoisseur pallet.

Wonderful place for a drink and a few nibbles - perfect for a catch up and chilling. Nice layout and pretty modern. Decent food and beverages. Counter staff were pretty friendly. General wait staff could do with a little management though - as often you'd see them just standing around chatting, while tables remain cluttered. Overall, an okay experience.

What a fantastic place, the behind the scenes tour is informative and the guide very friendly. It ends with a tasting of six of the primary range. Extend your stay and have a meal in the restaurant, a good range of delicious meal options with fast and friendly service. Well worth a visit.

Eurgh, I love this place! Staff are lovely, friendly and super helpful, even when run off their feet. Caters to families, large groups, quick coffee stops, whatever. The thrice cooked chips are an absolute must have. Dumplings, Korean chicken burger, salmon.... In fact all of the menu is delightful. I've never had a bad dish (and we eat here often). Great kids meals and staff are happy to split dishes etc (my preschoolers share a kid sized meal). I'm not a beer drinker but husband loves it. Bookbinder is a favourite. You can also buy direct from the brewery while there, including fill your own vessel. If you have young kids, ask for a booth. They love watching the brewery in operation.

She had great knowledge and recommendations on the menu and beers, respectful and friendly manner towards everyone at the table and super fast service! Best waitress in Dunedin and chefs made sure our meal was ammaculate.

Took Mum here for first time dining and had a fab steak and fish and chips! The waiter "Mitch" was amazing! Made our meal so enjoyable and looked after us making sure all was in order. We will be back!

Had a farewell get together for a friend leaving town. There were a few of us as well as a lot of others but the staff were still able to serve us quickly. The layout of the restaurant is great and you can even do a tour of how they make the beer. There is a wide range of beer available mainly their own brand. If you don't know what sort if beer you want, try one of their tastiers (a collection of beer).

While visiting Dunedin, our friends brought us to one of their favorite spots - Emerson’s. We really enjoyed the food and the beer but the whole experience was absolutely made with Bronwyn as our waitress. She was only two weeks on the job and knew everything about the beer, brewing operation, was able to answer all of our questions and provide excellent recommendations based on our preferences. She has a bright, fun, and lively personality that truly made the night. Thanks again for the wonderful service! If we ever find ourselves back in Dunedin, we will certainly be making a stop at Emerson’s again!

Wow this place exceeded my expectations. We came in with no reservation and had possibly the best service I've had in the 5 years living in this beautiful country. That was just the service though the food was epic! Started with a beer tasting platter and settled on a great drop to have with the food which came out surprisingly quick. The flavors were delicious we ordered 8 dishes and not a single one disappointed. My favorite was the popcorn shrimp they were so plump and juicy and being from California the sriracha mayo brought it home. Other favorites were the duck wontons and the lamb ribs. Thanks for the perfect birthday experience guys !!

Really great restaurant with lovely atmosphere and friendly wait staff. They have vegan options too!! In a nice location down anzac ave and you can see through to all the brewery equipment from the restaurant which is very cool. I had vegan soft shell tacos, which were delicious. Family friendly and they gave my kids colouring pages & crayons at the table and had a great kids menu too.

One of my favorite bar's/dining establishments to visit. Great selection of world famous beers, lovely building and outdoor area. Can even take the dog, which is a bonus. Emerson's always produce some strong (7% plus) beverages and they are the best (Bird Dog). Enjoy.

The building is new and very nicely designed. We didn't order food as we found it expensive, but my husband fills up his Emerson's beer bottle and is very happy with the quality of the beers. The service is very good. I am happy to see that they employ people with disabilities. They also give me a beer label when I ask for one. Thank you!

Just did the brewery tour with Daniel, very knowledgeable and easy going, made it easy even though we had a couple of kids in tow. It was a bit embarrassing for poor Daniel getting a lashing from what I gathered to be his manager over trivial details, when we signed up for the tour a tasting tray was offered and the lovely lady on the desk suggested swappling out a couple of the beers for orange juice for the kids. At the completion of the tour poor Daniel bore the brunt of this as well. Great place though and I would definitely return

Excellent meal and one of the best steaks I have had in years. Coupled with the beer tasting option, was a great place to relax with the family.

Went with a group of 20, we were all served hot meals at the same time! Not to mention the meals were generously portioned and delicious. A+

Brilliant experience. Daniel, our tour guide, was very knowledgeable and informative with a great sense of humour. He is very proud of the brewery and its history and the passion clearly shone through in his enthusiastic delivery and ability to respond to all multiple questions.

Some NZ's best beers across the range - whether going for the latest creations or the classics. Recently had a meal here with the family and the food and service were outstanding. Can recommend the Lamb Ribs with a Bird Dog IPA.

Enjoyed lunch yesterday. Salmon and a quality Mt Difficulty savvy for Madame, mushrooms and pilsner for moi. Wide variety of seating, not all taken up by the largely more mature clientele, (we guessed a fair few gold cards in the wallets). We took stools at a high table at the window - would have gone al fresco if temperature had been a few more degrees. Relaxed atmosphere (music allowed easy conversation) and friendly, unhurried, informative service. Meals arrived promptly, were both delicious, if not particularly generous in size. So we ordered and shared dessert. Lunch prices seemed quite reasonable. We will return.

We went on the brewery tour and tastung session. Very interesting and great beer. Our tour guide Colin knew his stuff.

The atmosphere was relaxing and suitable for kids. Food was great - squid was scrumptious but bit on the spicy side, triple fried fries was soft and moist on the inside and crispy on the outside (lousy aoli dip). Soft taco with jerk chicken looked simply constructed but it was yum! Kids menu was simple and that's exactly how they would like it. Drinks-had the reserve tasting board...absolutely fab! Went back again - dinner this time. Dinner special - beef cheek that melt in the mouth with tasty sides of smooth and creamy mash and baby carrots. Sharing plates - pork belly that was juicy and tender, delicious sauce; lamb ribs was the star of the day with sticky sweet sauce and chili flakes. Drinks - Overlord...must have!

Take the tour! It is so worth the few dollars you pay! Jon is a fantastic tour guide - knowledgeable and passionate about Emersons and beer In general. I learned a lot and had some great beer. Go - you will not be disappointed!!Possibly the best beer in New Zealand. Very knowledgeable and kind staff. Beer is for those with a champagne budget. Poutine from the kitchen is awesome. Comfy chairs and lovely terrace.

Good beer and food with a great ambiance venue. Wait staff was excellent. Manager and billing was dreadful, rude and at best careless. Over billed repeated items and told it was our fault. Left a really bad taste and won't return any time soon

Went for lunch Saturday, good coffee. Beef brisket and venison burger were good size and tasty. The stand out was chilli salt squid, the best. Great service and nice atmosphere, will return.

Pre-Eagles Concert drinks and nibbles. Place was maxed out but still good service, food and beer. Emerson's beers are great. Platter was good, only problem was it was too hot in the garden bar...in Dunedin!!

Enjoyed a quiet ale in Emerson's in mid-March 2017. Loved it. Through a fluke of circumstance, I got to meet and know Richard (Emerson. The 'Emerson' of Emerson's) way, way back in the early 1990s, just when he was kicking his brewing habits into gear. You could not meet a nicer, more down to earth bloke. There is simply nothing at all about him that is pretentious or in any way not 'nice'. I know that every traditional business guru will tell you that 'Nice guys finish last'. Well, in this case, they got that completely, utterly wrong. He's one of the good ones, and more power to Richard for what he's created. I no longer live in Dunedin, so cannot really offer much detail about the beer (though it's Emerson's, so from the many, many times I've enjoyed it before, you cannot go wrong there) or the food that is provided at the brewery, but from all accounts, it's on the money.

The food is always wonderful, the beer is always excellent. The staff are friendly, attentive and a good yarn - and the whole process of buying and filling up your flagon is always a treat. Consistantly a joy to dine/drink with freinds and family at.

From a tiny brewery from north Dunedin to now world famous craft beer producer, you can still get beer from the tap. The food is also amazing. Brewery tour is highly recommended.

I really like the vibe at Emersons and obviously the beer. I've been two times now. The first time was good, no complaints (had mac and cheese and fish and chips). However, today I got the morrocan pumpkin main for dinner and couldn't believe it was $28 dollars for a few slices of pumpkin and carrot!!!? It was yum but no way was it $28 yum. I was also disappointed in the service and I got an affogato for dessert - when it arrived, the jug of espresso was empty other than a few dribbles (very odd). I would possibly go back for a drink but unlikely for a meal.

So crowded. So popular we couldn't get a table. Great beer. Amazing service considering the volume of people they were putting through. Food good.

What's not to love, its a brewery :-).. we did the tour, and settled into the after tour tastings. Also, had lunch and enjoyed some amazing food. So thanks Emerson's for the great day.

A great meal and service to match

You could stay half a day and still not get through the full range of delicious craft beer available. A great a la carte menu to complement the beer - or vice versa. When you're finished, fill a couple of bottles of your favourite to enjoy another day ...or as soon as you get home...

All the meals were cooked to perfection with an excellent variety of mains and outstanding sides. Only problem was we ordered far too much. Service brilliant for 10 of us.

Great dinner - fantastic steak, comfy chairs, good staff, really nice see-through double sided fireplace. Maybe a bit contrived/inauthentic feeling but could just be because it is brand new.

Fish and chips were great, the smoked beef brisket was quite fatty but tasty. Service was awesome, we spent the whole Sunday afternoon here and the staff took great care of us.

A good brewery with a wide selection of Emerson's beers and a knowledgable staff who are willing to explain the different beers. The chips are also good.

Usually excellent, which is why I gave it 3 stars. Went in today (May 8th) to get some takeaway beers in the afternoon, the man who served me truly dreadful - hope it'll improve or I wouldn't go back in the future.

The best in Dunedin and one of the best in the country. Always something new and the old favorites like 1812 or the Pilsner are always winners in my books. London Porter has turned many a red wine drinker to beer, and when paired with whisky or a chocolate or both it gets even better. Grest people and epic beer.

Really impressed with every dish that we ordered, but piss poor service (had to wait a long time for everything). That meant more time to sample the amazing beers though!

From a tiny brewery from north Dunedin to now world famous craft beer producer, you can still get beer from the tap. The food is also amazing. Brewery tour is highly recommended.

Stopped by after a conference day at the Univerisity of Otago as it wasn't too far. It was a bit full but we were able to get a booth after ordering some drinks at the bar. They have quite a large selection of beer, which shouldn't be surprising as it is a brewery. I had the jerk chicken slaw and it was quite nice but was missing the heat. Also tried the brownie and that was ok. There is also a cellar door by the entrance where you could pick up a souviener like clothing or a flagon of beer. Nice place to spend an afternoon to grab something to eat and drink.
