Reviews of Etrusco at the Savoy
R.
Excellent place with friendly staff, good music good service. Main food exceptionally, only I wished got a cheeses for my spaghetti. Dessert, average. Good work team.
E.
Came here for a wedding reception and it was awesome! Service was great, owners and staff were awesome and super polite, the food and drink was amazing! Would definitely go back, and recommend it to anyone wanting a chill but great meal.
J.
the prosciutto on pizza was a little salty for me but the olive oil flavor was good and delicious.
and funghi pasta was the best i’ve ever had
I like the atmosphere and friendly staff here
S.
Great service and amazing food. Love the fact that they have a fire place and a bar. Desserts are great too.
R.
Never disappoints this restaurant! Great cocktails, beautiful Italian food and desserts, lovely fireplace creating an intimate, relaxing atmosphere🍹
Y.
Every time I come here it's always a delight. My favourite place by far
J.
FOOD WAS SPOT ON DELICIOUS. Great place. Great atmosphere. Great affordable price. Felt like I was in a different country cause NZ ain't this fancy.
Would 100% recommend the nonno.
V.
Lovely setting in a historical building that housed the old Savoy restaurant nearly a century ago. Family friendly. I can recommend the antipasti platter to share as a starter. All the pasta is cooked al dente. The mains consist of pizzza or pasta. The negatives: the place gets very noisy, there is no childrens menu and the deserts were a bit of a letdown
P.
Nice and cozy, lovely piano.
Staffs are very kind and friendly.
But foods are amazing.
The best bolognese pasta ever.
Spinach pasta and pizzas are good too.
I would like to recommend shrimp, meat lovers and special.
Also don't forget to order garlic bread.
Definitely will visit again.
H.
Beautiful setting and great Italian food (don't expect chips here!) Try and get a quieter night if you don't want it too noisy.
s.
Located on the second floor. Indoor seatings only, spacious and huge dinning area, bar in the middle of the restaurant. Super tasty bread and pasta, medio is a good portion, grande is probably enough for 2-3meals.
R.
Loved each of the pastas we had. Looking forward to returning to try the pizzas. Great atmosphere
L.
Excellent service and fantastic Italian cuisine ❤
R.
The best pasta I have ever had! Staff are fantastic, food was served incredibly fast and the restaurant has an amazing atmosphere! Couldn't recommend more!
c.
They say if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it. Haven’t been here for a very very very long time, I’m still impressed. It’s just how I remembered it to be - great place, great food! Had my fav. wine - Felton Road Riesling on the wine list. Well done!

It was already dark by the time I reached the city of Dunedin. After the checking-in process, I quickly refer to my itinerary to check on the places to eat. Moray Place near the Octagon (centre of Dunedin) sounded like a good proposition as I want to check out the statue of Robert Burns. I have not been back for more than 19 years now and I certainly want to see what are the changes that have taken in this city which I spent about 2 years to obtain my degree.
Lucky for me, I managed to find a parking nearby the restaurant as it was drizzling quite a bit. It's located on the first floor. My first impression was how cosy the place was - it was a family-owned business and the service was as warm & friendly as I'd read in the reviews. We were shown to our table and quickly ordered the dinner.
◾Antipasto Toscano - a selection of authentic Italian cured meats, garlic infused feta, marinated olives, artichokes and served with homemade dips and crostini. Everything looks like have been jumbled up but in a beautiful way. Our first plate and it was cleaned up fast by the hungry pack.
◾Neo Zelandese pizza - a twist of Hawaiian style pizza using cheese, ham, mushroom, pineapple and parsley with tomato base. The crispy thin crust pizza looked so inviting when it was served, but not for long.
◾Nonno - diced pancetta flamed in vodka with cream, chilly, tomato, parmesan and fresh parsley tossed through penne.
◾Brookfield's Sun Dried Malbec - a New Zealand's first kind of Malbec and it's described as Malbec on steroid. Welcoming drink after the long drive.
All dishes tasted like homemade out of love and we absolutely loved them.. or maybe we were famished at that point of time? After the lovely meal, we couldn't stay out too long because it was raining and the chilly wind was blowing. We just headed back to our accommodation to enjoy the wine we bought from Misha's Vineyard Tasting Room (Cromwell) earlier.
P.
Such a lovely place to have dinner - it was like we went back in time. The staff weee courteous and the food and wine were amazing! Looking forward to come back again soon…
J.
We had Nonno and Funghi pasta and a pizza. They were all really delicious and staffs were very friendly :)
M.
What a fantastic restaurant! Etrusco is family owned and operated and you certainly get this vibe as soon as you enter. Both the reception and the restaurant was warm and cosy from the get go. Roaring fire in the corner, happy smiles and attentive hosting from the moment we entered to the time we left. The food was outstanding, the service was attentive (without being intrusive) and we were treated like old friends after an absence. My partner and i will most definately be back - this will be our local food haunt when in Dunedin.
J.
Nice friend guy on the door. Nice to be greeted like that even entering. Wait staff a bit slow. Meals were very tasty.
K.
Fantastic restaurant!!! Pasta and pizza TO DIE FOR!!! Great atmosphere and staff that were very accommodating and bubbly. 10/10 very happy customers!
J.
Good food, though i suspect the pasta is a dry pasta. I could be wrong. Service was very good.
D.
Great food, staff and value! I'm guessing they're also elated to have paying guests after the lockdown. However we had a lovely experience.
M.
My favorite Italian restaurant in Dunedin and one of the best in New Zealand. We enjoyed the atmosphere and an excellent dinner followed by a delicious dessert.
C.
One of the few places in Dunedin where you can get a bite of the authentic Italian flavours. Loved the Ravioli and Michelangelo pizza! Dessert recommended: Crostata al limone for the win (but I also loved the Panna cotta). The Tiramisu is a semifreddo, so I would rather opt for other choices. I have been here twice and the staff is always very polite and friendly. The atmosphere is great and I adore the space - it is the fanciest restaurant of the city. 5/5 recommended by an Italian customer. Mamma mia!!! :)
Z.
Yummy had the chef choose 3 types of pasta to share with my son it was amazing
G.
I turned up around 8pm on a Monday night and had no trouble getting a table right away - the restaurant was fairly busy but not loud. Had a delicious Roma pizza, but lots of things on the menu looked good and given the chance I'd eat here again. Small but tasty selection of local beers too.
R.
Food was ok but felt it was a bit mean on meat and seafood in both our mains. Service was slow, mains came one hour after us arriving and 45 minutes after ordering.
K.
Great food and atmosphere in lovely surroundings.
Plenty of good Italian dishes and vegan options (breads, pastas and pizzas).
M.
Amazing place! Great staff, GREAT FOOD, and a great night! Cheers guys. Will 100% be back.
D.
Lovely pasta dishes on a cool Dunedin evening. For a Monday it was very busy but it was a pleasure to sit on the couch with a wine and listen to the pianist. The atmosphere is always great here. Only gets 4 stars because of the background noise, diners and echoing wooden floors. Food very good, service was excellent.
S.
Great service, ambiance and quality of food! We asked our favourite simple pasta and the chef was happy to make it for us (spaghetti, olive oil, chilli, garlic & fresh tomatoes).
Highly recommend specially for tourists and travellers.
T.
Excellent food to be had here. Authentic Italian cuisine.
B.
Nice basic Italian pizza and pasta meals and reasonably priced.
Need bookings to avoid disappointment.
Very popular for a quick meal.
B.
Formaggio was rich and creamy, Salsaccio delicious and Chimera an excellent Central Otago selection.
V.
The pasta was amazing, fantastic simple flavours, beautifully seasoned, crispy bacon. Mouth watering. The pizza was equally as delicious nice and light base, with great combo of flavours. The highlight though was the Italian wine Vesevo, full bodied red slightly dry. Just so yum, I had to buy a bottle. Everything is nice for me
S.
I'm a regular here, for good reason. The food is excellent, as is the wine, and Rion and Zane are perfect hosts! Definitely try the Nonno if you like something spicy!
K.
Great Italian style restaurant for anything between big groups to lone diners - the service was outstanding and everything was well priced - My Armatriciana Bianca was delicious!
C.
We had a lovely evening at this restaurant. I ordered a gluten free Carbonara which my husband shared and agreed it was delicious. He ordered Puttonesca which he found to be too full flavoured despite him liking olive and anchovies. We gave the restaurant feedback and were offered a refund. The remainder of the meal was delicious. There's was a really good ambiance, the service was great and the place was packed despite it being a Monday. We'd definitely go back.
C.
Pretty nice place, service is good, the food is also good.
Chef's special is nice to try, combination of three kinds of noodles.
S.
Great food. Great staff.
Piano a tad bit annoyingly loud but thankfully wasn't on too long.
D.
We had the share pasta plate with three different pastas. All so good! Wine from California was excellent and atmosphere cozy and comfortable. Very affordable as well!!
J.
Lovely meal. Good service. Great atmosphere.
K.
Very busy night, full house and the restaurant nailed it. Food was excellent, service excellent and a real Dunedin institution. Well worth a visit and a great night out.
a.
The food is just amazing and tasty. However, giving it 4 stars just because we had to wait for more than half an hour to get our food. Other than that everything is awesome including the place, accessibility, staff and services.
S.
This place was so good! Absolutely delicious food. great staff. Genuine Italian food in a wonderful old building.
A.
Best Italian food I have eaten in a while. Their garlic bread, penne pasta, pizza and desserts were all outstanding. Being vegetarian, they had good options and everything was delicious. Even my young children commented on how amazing the food was. The staff was very courteous and the owner came to enquire and talked to us. Highly recommend.
I.
I would go as far as saying this is my parents local 😂, the food is amazing, the welcoming and friendly service exceptional and the atmosphere warm and lively. As a Coeliac being able to indulge is a delicious pasta dish at a restaurant is a rarity and I love being able to indulge when I am home visiting from the north Island. My Coeliac cousins are equally impressed and take every chance to visit.
K.
Great food portions and delicious meals. Cocktails were also delicious. Be aware before booking the atmosphere can get quite noisy. Otherwise really enjoyed my meal.
D.
As always a welcoming environment, excellent service and food to match.
Tonight we were a 12 pax, the waiting staff catered for all our quirky needs and everyone left the restaurant well fed and keen to return in the near future.
Consistently high standards and a credit to a genuinely family run establishment.
Derek
P.
Excellent food, awesome service, really enjoyed my meal.
C.
This place is just awesome. We went for two times in one week. One of the best customer service experience and the taste is bang on. However I am not a professional chef who knows the technical aspects of Italian food. But I like what I had.
A.
Good thing the restaurant was not crowded. I love the ambiance of this place and they offer authentic Italian food. 🍝
i.
Fantastic service and spectacular food. Highly recommend it
S.
Last minute booking for 8 on a Friday 2 weekends before Christmas. They fitted our family in. Enjoyed the lively atmosphere with other people enjoying themselves. Our meal was lovely and gave my husband ideas for home. If staying again, I would go thee again. They also had DF which was nice.
M.
Always an enjoyable experience regardless if it's a big group event, a meal with the kids or something smaller. Beautiful food and quality service are the stand outs. We always seem to over order and end up waking away with the left overs to take home. Well worth a trip to this Dunedin institution!
R.
It has an amazing Gluten-free range. Food is always excellent sizing and service is super friendly.
They happily agreed for a graduation cake to be delivered and served for my daughter.
D.
Such an enjoyable evening with friends. This is a popular venue for groups. We were early in on a Thursday evening and there were tables set up for 10 plus everywhere. Which is always a good sign!
Once the wine and food headed our way it was understood why this is a top restaurant in Dunedin. I had the pasta and I swear I have never tasted pasta SO GOOD! The flavour was incredible! My words will not do it justice.
The wine was delicious and the staff were amazing - way, way beyond good. I went with 10 other woman on this evening and all of us were happy with the food, drinks and service.
In summary - go there, whatever the occasion - and enjoy.
F.
Generous dishes, absolutely delicious. We had 4 different options and they all tasted wildly different. Recommended.
V.
Etrusco was recommended to me by a friend and it did not disappoint. The location, atmosphere and extensive pasta and pizza choices were amazing and those we sampled were truly delicious. Our lovely server, Ophellie, was very knowledgeable and her dessert recommendations were first rate. We will be back. 👍🏼
L.
The food is good but service on a very busy night with a big group was a bit hit and miss although staff were very friendly. The acoustics in this restaurant are seriously bad. Conversation on a busy night is near impossible so if you really want to talk to fellow diners I would suggest trying somewhere else
A.
The cervo dish was excellent! Meat was very tender and the meal was extremely fresh when brought out!
A.
I always come here for the pasta Verde, nothing else. Love love love it
S.
Fantastic food but very noisy
T.
Can't rave about this place enough. Lovely pizza and great pasta.
G.
Is this the best byo Italian in NZ? Service level incredible. Lovely family run establishment in historic, beautiful setting with a roaring fire. Amazing value in terms of wines and good family food make it a favourite of locals and students alike. Always packed and brimming w energy. Comfortable too if you are dining alone. Grab a window seat, a carafe and bring a book if you are.
A.
Yummy food; gluten free pasta is solid 👌🏽 and as good as glutinous stuff!! Quick, friendly service tonight and great live atmospheric piano music from Dunedin's one and only Nick Knox!! Too much Etruscos 👌🏽💯🔥🥂
M.
Food is consistently good, and service is fast and efficient.
T.
Brilliant food n drinks but noisey atmosphere
A.
Amazing food, great service 10/10
B.
Highly recommended 5 stars. Amazing service and the food oh my god was so beautiful and also the price was so reasonable for 5 people we ordered drinks, mains and deserts and cost less than $45 per person and really good portions. We arw definitely going back!!
P.
Staff very accommodating when we hadn't booked on a very busy night. They sat us next to the fire which was perfect for sharing a delish pizza and a very nice wine.
M.
OMG why can’t there be one in Wellington. The flavours of the food are just perfectly balanced. Extensive wine menu and a very good variety of pastas perfectly cooked. Bellissimo.
A.
As a gluten free pasta fiend I find it very difficult to find restaurants that serve good quality gluten-free pasta but Etrusco did not dissappoint! My partner and I decided to share a platter with a mix of three different pastas. He's not gluten intollerent like me - and he still loved it!
We had very friendly service, in a beautiful building, with delicious pasta. What more could you want?
C.
This is the most authentic and delicious Italian food I've ever had outside of Italy. In particular, the quality of the meat was incredible (the proscuitto served with the rosemary flatbread melts in your mouth). We had the 3-pasta platter which comfortably fed 3 people and gave us the opportunity to try a range of different pastas, each rich in flavour but perfectly balanced. Dessert was amazing - of the lemon mousse cake, pana cotta and pecan pie, the warm pecan pie was the winner! The food and wine were very reasonably priced for the quality. The restaurant was a little loud but no complaints here!
s.
Loved the food. Super tasty and fresh. But service wasnt the best. Slow and took forever. We felt forgotten.
s.
Amazing pasta dishes. Atmosphere was great. Staff were friendly & efficient. We've eaten in italy and this easily matches it. Well done
H.
Excellent food. Great service
B.
Great service, fantastic food and great atmosphere
J.
Lovely tasty Italian food pastas and pizzas. Set upstairs in a historic building Savoy decorated in the era. Very popular with friendly staff. Not overly expensive. Didnt have to wait very long for our meals. Dishes nicely decorated and were satisfied with size of order. Catered for children also. Alcohol was available. We had a lovely night there.
Y.
We went there for our friends 40's birthday. Nice atmosphere. Staff are friendly, decent service. We got more that we could eat actually, starter, Pizza, Pasta and desert. The most popular food for kids was Pizza, I think pepperoni and Hawaiian, and Spinach Pasta is my favourite! Considering most of the table was taken, food was delivered reasonably quick. Lovely experience.
P.
Fascinating building with really interesting ceiling details. The place was packed (on a Friday evening). Stunning food. Atmosphere hard to beat. Even though there must be seating for 150 people it still felt intimate with couches, log fire and little groupings of tables. I had a large anchovy pizza which was delicious and filling. Authentic and delicious. Enjoy!
s.
I've been here twice before in 2005 and in about 2011. However my third trip was different I was a solo diner. The wine was good, the food was good to excellent as before, but I got pretty decent service as well. Any solo diners will know getting decent service and a 'just right' break between courses is unusual. So, have to say from the welcome, to the seating to the service to the food well done! Highly recommend.
m.
Great place. Had the pasta platter with 3 different pasta dishes, that was the Chef's choice. Best meal ever, in fact we liked it so much we went back the following night!!!
And were made to feel like regulars. Very special place.
D.
Excellent food and staff. Many thanks
J.
Excellent. Pasta Mista and a 1/2 litre carafe of wine to share for 2 for $64. Three pastas for two to share. Amazing venue. Edwardian Savoy dining room. Grand. Elegant. Busy.
T.
What can I say totally loved our meal out tonight! We went out for our 21st Wedding anniversary and we had the three pasta's dish for 2 people to share. It was absolutely divine! Totally loved the pecan pie too! My favorite restaurant so far by far!!!! We will be back❤️😊
r.
This place totally rocks. I had my daughter's 21st there and they were so helpful, obliging and professional. The food was fabulous and so reasonably priced. Bar staff excellent. Service A1. These guys understand hospitality.
A.
Highly recommend. This place has the most amazing food, and service. Staff are welcoming, friendly, and attentive. The food is always glorious. The interior is beautiful and historic. Advice is book if you have more than two people, or be prepared to wait for a table.. this alone is a mark of how popular and amazing they are. Has vegetarian friendly food, great place to meet friends or go on a date. I would personally recommend Verde pasta - a mouthwatering experience
R.
Etruscos is one of my favourite restaurants to go too. I absolutely love the staff there they are very welcoming and friendly, the whole atmosphere of the restaurant is very family friendly vibes. The food is delicious, my personal favourite is the carbonara, very creamy and rich. I would strongly recommend this restaurant especially if you are dinning with family :)
R.
One of the best Italian dining in Dunedin. Good ambience and extremely warm and welcoming staff. Bruschetta is one of the Best, goes really well with the red wine. The Marinara La Pasta is just amazing. Must visit for all.
L.
Very good experience. Great atmosphere and cocktails started the evening well. Sharing platter was delicious, split a pizza and a pasta between two and enough room for dessert. A couple of glasses of excellent Italian red to round off the evening. Highly recommended
G.
We dined here on s very busy Friday, and staff were extremely busy! They were amazingly calm, and service was very good. Wine choices were excellent.
G.
Had a pick of 3 different pasta, FUNGHI - creamy porcini mushroom sauce tossed through penne, SUGO DI CARNE - A tasty bolognese style meat sauce with spaghetti, and NONNO - Diced pancetta (cured ham) flamed in vodka with cream, chilli, tomato, parmesan and fresh parsley tossed through penne. All were amazing. Also had the BRUSCHETTA which was
Homemade crusty bread brushed with extra virgin olive oil and a trio of chef's toppings. For afters the was a mango 🥭 Gelato. Service was also top notch.
M.
I have been travelling NZ for several months and this is by far the best restaurant I have been to. Extremely good pastas, excellent service and atmosphere. The low prices just adds that little extra. Easily five star.
A.
This place was so so good! Good vegan and Vegetarian options , service was great. Cozy atmosphere . Loved it 😊
S.
Always consistently good!!! Quality of food and service is great! My partners family have been going there for almost 25 yrs and always love it
A.
AMAZING food and such lovely staff! Thankfully managed to get a table on graduation night, and so glad I chose Etrusco (after a friend recommended it to me). Generous portions and the food was cooked beautifully. Will definitely come back whenever I'm back in Dunedin.
N.
Food nice but service not so good. They apologized before we paid and said they were busy on Tuesday but I said it was Wednesday!!
T.
Tasty food, quick service despite being busy and not to expensive either. Loved it!
T.
Lovely pizza and pasta meals in wonderful atmosphere. Customer service was friendly and professional. We tried several other establishments in Dunedin before finally finding this gem. Will definitely be back.
S.
Great atmosphere and service. Food very good, I had the venison ravioli and loved it
P.
Great location. Close to 'downtown' Dunedin. Through a doorway off the street, up a nondescript flight of stairs through double doors and your view explodes into a huge Victorian room, bustling with people, light and life. Warmly greeted by a lovely chap who showed us to our table. A charming waitress took our drinks, and later our food order. The 500ml carafe of really quite decent wine for ten dollars has got to be the bargain of the century. Everything is fabulous. There is a 'but' coming.
The pizzas are shocking.
It seems like the chef puts oil on the pizzas before cooking them. The base comes out like a fried biscuit with no risen edge. A golden yellow fried colour with a greasy finish.
I'll leave it at that. It's such a shame. The place and the people are so good.
w.
Totally loved our meal here! We went out for our first anniversary and choose to have the Chefs Choice of Pasta dish to share. The Seafood Cabanara was so fresh, you could taste the ocean, divine! The Beef bow tie pasta also delicious totally loved the pecan pie too!
D.
Dunedin Staple
This has to be one of Dunedin’s staple eateries. The place is in a beautiful building near The Octagon and is maintained beautifully, the broken windows have lovingly been repaired with lead lighting rather than replacing with a pane of glass. This just shows how fastidious this place is. The food is great Italian, a very good drinks list and fabulous staff that have a natural smile. This is a busy place and rightly so - it deserves to be. The atmosphere, the food, staff, drinks, oh and did I mention the food. Go and have a great time.
R.
Great food. Atmosphere very noisy
Staff did apologize for this when we left.
B.
Consistently great! Eat here every time we visit Dunedin.
Fabulous atmosphere, awesome food and great service.
M.
Excellent evening, great bustling atmosphere but despite crowds we were well served and the food was very tasty. Authentic Italian cooking and served with a smile. You should come!
C.
Vegan options are good.
Very friendly and attentive staff on a busy night.
Nice atmosphere also.
Don't know how cost effective vegan cheese would be to add to the menu, but it would be really cool if they offered vegan parmesan.
B.
Wow, went in for a friends birthday with a group of people. We got seated next to the open fire which kept us nice and warm. The service was friendly with the wait staff checking on us to make sure that we had ever that we wanted or needed. The meals were very tasteful and just when we thought the evening couldn't get better, a man played live piano. Will be going back again.
B.
An esquizaite place to enjoy Delicious food and gorgeous decor. The staff were very friendly and our meals were fabulous.
C.
My husband and I stayed one night in Dunedin in October, and the i-Site visitor center recommended this restaurant. This was, by far, the best pasta I've ever had! It may have been the best meal I had during our two-week tour of New Zealand.
My husband stuck with his classic choice of spaghetti bolognese (SUGO DI CARNE) and I had the NONNO. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals, and I can only speak for myself in saying that mine was absolutely amazing. I have to say it again: the BEST pasta I've ever had. They offer two plate sizes of pasta too. My husband had the full size (he couldn't finish it), and I had the light size and barely finished mine. My husband kept saying you don't have to finish it if you're full. Oh, yes I do! Too darn good to leave any on my plate. I wish we would have had room for dessert.
We also ordered a side of bread that was incredibly fresh - I think they said they bake it right there.
As for the service, it was fabulous: various friendly staff checking on us from time to time. If we are ever in Dunedin again, we will definitely eat here. I don't often waste my time writing reviews, but for this one, I grabbed a business card so as not to forget.
c.
The staff are really nice, helpful and polite. I had a small issue with my food, which they rectified immediately. Great service and lovely people.
J.
My wife and I got the Antipasto Tuscano, the Quatrotutto pizza, and the vodka infused pasta (can't remember the name). Everything was delicious, the service was great, the pieces where affordable for the quality of food, the atmosphere and restaurant itself looked amazing and had a great vibe. Would recommend to all my friends and family that visit Dunedin!
K.
Went with my grandma (there is an elevator to the restaurant) and we both loved what we got. Not too many vegetarian pastas but what they did have was very well done and had a unique spin. The medium size was pleny to fill us. Reasonable prices, very friendly service. Only downside: it can get a bit loud when busy due to an echoey (but beautiful) room.
T.
Food excellent, great service including menu suggestions. Enjoyed antipasto, salads (nicely fresh), trio special of pasta (Bolognese, Verde, Funghi, all delicious), lovely desserts (Limon, Pecan, Tiramisu). Coffee spot on. BYO appreciated. Very busy and especially so being Monday night. Rather noisy being so busy. Limited menu - pasta or pizza - but probably the better for it. Will try the pizza next Dunedin visit.
C.
Superb location, service and atmosphere-great food! Perfect for a casual night out. Host was very gracious and personable. Great experience.
G.
We were rejected from a fully booked restaurant and Etrusco squeezed my family in for the hour. We left the cosy and authentic pasta heaven hungry for more... Its that good guys. Please book early if u plan to give it a try... thank God for getting us here!! Absolutely without regrets and will be the only place I will head to, in my next visit to this wonderful place.
G.
We love love love Etrusco’s!! A gorgeous building and dining setting, exceptional staff and service with the most delicious Italian food and wine. Byo if needed too. Very affordable. Is our first pick of places to go in Dunedin, and all round winner every time we’re so lucky!!!
R.
Lovely meal. Very helpful and friendly staff.
J.
Dunedin has some awesome places to eat but Etrusco is my favorite. Great food, decor and atmosphere. Just go there.
M.
Had a very nice evening here with friend - we are all from UK.
It was very good. Good food. Lovely setting. Good mix of people.
I remember the old Savoy from decades ago. All the best of that old service has been retained but much updated. In th e UK it would be hard to find such a place and might not be affordable if you could.
Excellent.
Will return when next in this lovely city. Etrusco is a must do.
Y.
Chefs choice of pasta is a great choice and okay value to share with another person.
A.
You go restaurant to experience exceptional food and enjoy the company.
However pasta is not homemade but cost $25, i would say very average meal for 2 types we have got and frozen tiramisu...we asked to change it, got another frozen one.😑 Dissapointing to see such a poor food in such a nice place...3stars just for location and good wine variety...
g.
A great restaurant !
This place is busy but for the good reason, expect to be well serve and received. We didn't book but we find a seat at the bar which is great seat to speak with the friendly staff.
Food ***** (very good pizza, salads average)
Service ***** (perfect)
Price $$$ (good price for the quality)
Ambience ***** (see my 360 picture for a quick look)
E.
Amazing! Went on a Saturday night with my girlfriend, very busy, but the staff really made an effort to find us a well-placed table. The decor is a mix of Italy and the Savoy; great. Ordering Pasta, I found the dishes very well considered, pasta perfectly cooked and great sauces. The staff are very friendly (Run by Italians, so you get a sense of authenticity), and although it was very busy and noisy you could still hear the people next to you when they spoke. Top effort, Etrusco.
R.
Head upstairs and be well looked after by the attentive staff and enjoy delicious pasta or pizza, plenty on offer here. Nice atmosphere complete with an open fire and couches if you just feel like retiring there after your meal for a night cap. 2nd time here and will be back again when we visit Dunedin.
R.
Great ambiance, excellent prices. Pasta dishes are a bit retro, but work fine. BYOB is a winner. Will come back!
R.
Always a consistently great meal and atmosphere. A favourite place to meet up with friends. Highly recommended and a booking is essential because of its popularity.
A.
So my wife and I had a lovely meal here I ordered spaghetti bolgnese and she penne picante both tasteful and nicely presented, fresh and good portion size, two choices a medico or grande, i had the larger it was almost to much but if ur hungry and enjoy ur pasta dishes big I would go for that, service was nice we had a little wait at our table on a Friday night at 2045 as it was half full so pretty busy for the two servers on the floor, once our food was ordered though came out quick and super hot. All in a lovely night to be had we were in and out quick and had a great time 😊
D.
Always a pleasure to eat here. Genuine Italian food in a wonderful old building.
D.
They did a great job on the dishes. Pasta can be disappointing if you feel like you could do it yourself at home. We shared three dishes and they were all excellent.
T.
Homey cozy Italian restaurant in this old Dunedin city center. What a spot to hide away from the crowded. Easily walk in and take a seat by the window, enjoy the colorful glasses of the time reflections, breathe in, prepare a few minutes for your order. Try the Italian soup with nice simple Cibatta bread, following beautiful bolognese pasta, then comes the amazing authentic Italian style pizza
P.
Awesome food, super busy but great service thank you
A.
The food was excellent and the serving staff were very friendly and attentive. We were at Etrusco on a Saturday night and it was quite noisy. Perhaps avoid that night of you are planing that intimate meal for two!
P.
Great dining experience loved the service and the food was delicious
E.
Love the food and atmosphere, great pizzas and food for all ages.
R.
Wonderful venue and meals. The antipasto was fantastic and the pasta portions generous and packed with flavour.
O.
Place was packed. Service was on point so as the food, it was delicious. Would actually go back again.
w.
Beautiful building and great food - expect a busy restaurant with lots of chatter and noise. Menu hasn't changed much in many years which can be both good and bad - staff were organised and friendly. Expect to pay around $100/couple for three course meal with drinks. Certainly a favourite place to dine while in Dunedin.
J.
Authentically Italian food, that's has a really homey feel to it! From being greeted at the door till getting the check I was well acquainted and looked after by staff! The volume was loud enough thag you could laugh and it just be lost in the positive atmosphere. The food well, you can't look past it!! elegantly, simple dishes and short list of classics done well. The grande size if you so dare can fill you to spare.
A real Dunedin gem. Never just once, go twice, or more, maybe once a month or even a week! You'll never get bored
S.
I've been here twice now with friends and have tried a starter, 4 different dishes/pizzas, and 2 different desserts. The food is consistently incredible and the atmosphere is great, but the food always took a long time. We waited 45 mins for the main course the first time and 60 mins the second time, and we waited 15 mins for the desserts.
P.
Great food, great service. Venison pasta dish highly recommended. Likewise local central otago wine. Location is ex Savoy hotel and still has that old style ceiling etc so fantastic site for the restuarant. Bellisimo!
J.
Easily one of the best pasta I've ever had outside of Italy. The Amatriciana was amazing, as was the Nonno, both were flavourful and a delight to eat.
The stand out for me was the Verde. Outstanding and delicious, flavourful without being overpowering, and retaining the freshness of the ingredients. I have 3 days in Dunedin, and will be going back tomorrow!
K.
Great dinner. Had the chefs choice pasta platter. 3 different pastas. All very tasty. Tomato venison one, basil pinenut and spinach one and carbonara. Followed by excellent desserts. Will be back.
D.
Excellent service. Excellent food and ambience. Lovely Italian cuisine.
L.
An absolute must of authentic Italian dining in the heart of Dunedin. A warm low lit atmosphere, mouth watering Italian cuisine that leaves you wanting more, and excellent service from staff that are prompt, energetic, attentive and friendly. Not to mention an amazing live pianist who's piano rendition of The Game of Thrones theme song was a nice surprise (I'm a fan). All round Magnificent!
M.
Good food and great service
T.
As this is not a ground floor restaurant, we found it rather difficult to find and we were confused between the Octagon and the outer ring, called Moray Place. Once we found it, we were really impressed with the decor and atmosphere. Fantastic service and a wonderful meal at very reasonable prices, including the drinks.
C.
Delicious food, great atmosphere, and great service. We came without a reservation and got the last seat. The place was fully packed and for good reasons too! Highly recommend~~~
M.
Had a dinner here. We got entrees for the table the rosemary bread, olives and pizza bread with tomato sauce were all really good. I especially loved the olives! For main I had the Savoy pizza which I loved. It was unusual to have the cheese under the shaved ham but it was so yummy. Pizza base was perfect. For dessert I ordered the tiramisu which was a let down. It was weird it was laid on its side and the biggest layer was ice cream which must of defrosted then refroze as it was icey. Then one layer of sponge which was a little stale and a layer of whipped cream thank goodness that was fresh! Others on my take ordered the lemon whipped cheesecake and said it was really lovely though. I'd come back for the pizza alone though. Service for us was a little clumsy our mains arrived before they had cleared away the entrees and it took a while to order dessert but otherwise good service.
C.
Really nice restaurant with great food and excellent service. Meals are very good value for money.
There are vegetarian, vegan and dairy free options. Only downside is sometimes it can be very loud and hard to hear the person next to you.
e.
Great hosts, amazing service, house gave us a round of free drinks ☺️ felt very welcomed
R.
Always a favourite when in Dunedin. The food is always excellent and apart from one notable exception the service has always been top notch. If you havnt been then you should definitely put Etrusco at the top of your list, you won't be disappointed.
R.
Could not fault the food prepared for our pre-booked group of 12 [except children's pizza was late, and 2 desserts were not presented].
Guests were slightly squashed up at the tables, we should have had another table added.
Unfortunately on that particular night, the room was over full, and the staff were literally run off their feet - so service was a tad slow...
Would I go back again? YES I WOULD.
A.
Perfect birthday dinner for my pasta loving son. Awesome staff & beautiful food. GF Carbonara was delicious but the desserts were to die for.
J.
Whenever I come to Dunedin, I make a point of having a meal at Etrusco, since I first discovered it ca. 2007. Most recently, I organised a big group to go for dinner on a Thursday evening. I had to keep revising our count upwards but Rion called me to confirm all the details, including what time we'd need to leave, and greeted me specially when we arrived. I think I've always ordered the boar (or venison) with bow tie pasta. It was quite peppery this time but as good as ever and 10 out of the 11 of us were delighted with our meals.
S.
Hadn't been here for ages, had a major craving for their delicious, tasty Pizza Bread for starter and their Fungi Pasta main, never disappoints. Beautiful decor, service is A++++++.
D.
This place had really good food and service! Very reasonable Italian restaurant within easy walking distance of the Speights Brewery. The lighting was dark but it added to the ambience of a classical Italian restaurant.
B.
I am a regular diner here and they never disappoint. Lovely people and delicious food. Excellent value.
D.
Really great premises just lovely.
Great Italian food and drinks. Staff so accomodating.
G.
Delicious Italian food. The grande meals are huge so wish we'd stuck with mediocre and had room for dessert. Recommend the Etrusco Pinot Noir wine, grown and bottled locally for the restaurant.
Z.
Never had better pasta in my life
M.
Both the pizza and the pasta we had were amazing. We also had a chocolate cake for dessert which was so rich and delicious. 100% recommend this place, very well priced also!
J.
Family owned and run, great big Italian family atmosphere, but also fine for a couple or single. Outstanding service and great food. I'll be back.
t.
Food was delicious, great table service, as it filled up with people I found it difficult to hear , noisy.
A.
Awesome food and service. Great staff
S.

S.

A.
Excellent authentic Italian food. Great atmosphere. It's been a family favourite for decades. Consistently high standards.
H.
“Fabulous! Highly recommend! You want to eat here!”
Thank you to Rion who saved the night for our booked party of four. I took my son Moana to Etrusco for his post grad dinner, and not only did Rion accommodate us, but he also squeezed in the 4 extras who turned up unexpectedly. This was done with zero stress to us and was the beginning of a magnificent night.
Etrusco was completely booked out and for good reason. Not only was it grad night and hundreds upon hundreds of families were out celebrating with their graduands but the restaurant is so deserving of it's ranking as Dunedin's number one.
The food is fabulous - just the best italian banquet I've ever had. And I lived in Melbourne for 6 years!
The atmosphere matches the food - lots of happy, laughing people. Every single table was filled, everyone enjoying their meals together. Had such an amazing time, so glad we choose to celebrate my son's graduation dinner here.
Highly recommend. Special thanks to Rion - you made such a difference to us, and we are immensely grateful :D

S.
Excellent food and atmosphere. Wait staff are really helpful and friendly. The only downside is that it does get rather noisy when busy
C.
Adoro, Adoro, Adoro. Love, love, love. Such a beautiful setting with a live pianist. It also incredible how so many people can fit into such a big room that doesn't echo. The atmosphere is icredible and wow, what can I say about the service, magnific!
M.

E.
A must to dine at when in Dunedin Great atmosphere perfect food and drink menus Hands down the best customer service that I've experienced 👍
J.
Great meal & service, brilliant atmosphere.
A.
Went to this place with the dunedin course organiser. Really nice. Didn't know it was halal (comes on the halal website list if u google for Dunedin) anyways. Vegetarian Pasta was good but vege pizza's were ok. Considering that This is an Italian place I did expect better pizza. Anyways we didn't place so really can't rate the worth of food for the price. Good ambience but too noisy, I guess cause we were about 50 ppl ..
A.
Excellent Italian food and lovely staff. Portions were appropriate for price. Food was created with quality in mind. Best pasta and Pizzeria in Dunedin.
R.
This place had amazing pasta. They were very good about gluten and tried their best to make my pasta gluten free even though the kitchen was probably a gluten fest.

L.
Fun atmosphere. Great wine selection. Nice job on the pizza.
K.
A firm family favourite of ours and always a pleasure to dine at Etrusco. Love the family-run atmosphere and the friendly greeting at the door. The food is consistently good - whether it be for a small table of two, or a larger event. My person favs - the Penne Al Nonno for pasta main and the Crostata Al Limone for dessert. If you are looking for a starter to share - the SCHIACCIATA is legendary!
m.
