L.Very busy and service was good. Sushi was great, as were the spring rolls and gyozas. Tempura was huge and batter quite thick. Not fantastic but not bad either. Not a quiet place when busy but it was a nice night out.
E.Absolute must-visit if you're in Dunedin. Top quality Japanese food at really reasonable prices. Great flavours, great portion sizes and friendly staff. The mini rice balls are a definite must-try.

v.Had Japanese curry here about a decade ago. I remembered it being really good. Came back to Dunedin for a visit and decided to come again for the curry. The curry, udon were very good. The only problem was the rice that came with curry was quite mushy/overcooked.

A.From my first ever date here, to many meals since, I have enjoyed every single one of them. The food is absolutely fantastic, the staff are always an absolute joy, the price is beyond affordable (although don't tell them, they might put it up!), and the overall experience is always a 6/5. Would recommend to anyone who eats food, it cannot be gone passed!

A.Amazing food and staff. We arrived on the evening of the Midwinter Carnival and the place was pumping. The staff were super friendly and organised and we were well looked after.
The food took a little longer than we had hoped, as we had two 'starving' kids, but it was to be expected since the place was packed. The only improvement we could have thought of would be having some kids activities available. Even if it was just paper and pencils, it would have helped a lot with out wait.
Once the food arrived, we were all very happy. Great bento box, curry, sushi balls etc. You can't go wrong with almost anything on the menu.
If you're looking for a nice night out, Jizo can definitely make it happen. Bookings recommended on busy nights!

K.Good staff, very accommodating and kind. I had to go to work and had 20mins but the guy taking my order fast forwarded it to the chef and I got it in 10 mins though there was a big line of orders. And yea the food is tasty.

R.Amazing Japanese, best I’ve had since going to Japan! We came here for dinner on our first and last night in Dunedin (it was that tasty)! The restaurant can be quite busy but we didn’t need to wait for longer than 10 minutes for a table. The food is very cheap for the size of meal you get comparative with other Japanese restaurants. There is a whole vegetarian and vegan menu, as well as “normal” menu. There are also some clever twists like Paleo sushi which substituted rice with cauliflower and cream cheese (which was delicious)! The wait staff are young and really onto it and friendly. Highly recommended!

M.We use to have a shop a block away and this this where we choose to dine on those days when I'm just too exhausted to cook. When this place changed hands, they added a lot to the menu which I felt was not unnecessary. It only confused us and we ended up ordinating the food in the old menu. It could be crowded at dinner time so it pays to book. There is a little second floor nook where there is more privacy and could be a romantic space. The owners are very good and hospitable.
m.We love Jiso, it’s our regular go to place. The food is always good. Hopefully the new system(new owners?) is going to work in their favour...unfortunately we waited for a VERY long time (over an hour) for our food tonight which is unusual. Also, I would suggest a better sound system.
Post script: Food arrived, delicious and drinks on the house. All is well.
N.The food is always exceptional! Great place to relax and kick back! If there is one thing I'd like to suggest that would be great is if someone would take your order at the table instead of having to get back up and order at the counter. Aside from that - amazing place! The food... ahhh the food!! So good!

Even though it's cheap it doesn't feel like you're dining somewhere that would reflect that. The food most importantly doesn't even reflect on the price and is so so much better than you'd think.
In Wellington you'd pay $20.00 for one of their $10.00 mains. Up to the Same standard and everything.
I recommend this place to everyone. It's got a large range of dishes on the menu and if you're not into sushi, try a Japanese curry, or their udon noodles. There's a lot to choose from and there's something to suit everyone's taste buds.

F.By far one of Dunedin's best restaurants! Jizo can do great sit down and takeaway meals good for students, couples or families. Huge, delicious selection of Japanese food (sushi, donburi,Service was great and very helpful staff as my friend and I hadn't been to a Japanese restaurant before. We got the Bento and next time we would like to try a variety of other dishes

R.As a regular diner at Jizo Japanese Restaurant I continue to enjoy my favourite meal - Teriyaki Chicken Don - usually accompanied by a glass of Shiraz or Chardonnay. Most of the staff recognise me on entry and know that my order will be the Teriyaki Chicken Don! The chicken is always tender and full of flavour accompanied by salad and vegetables.

e.Probably the best Japanese restaurant in Dunedin better than dodgy The Jitsu. I notice its run by Chinese staff which is rare to see in New Zealand, especially in Dunedin whereby most Japanese restaurants are Korean or Filipino run. Overall the food is good but be prepared to wait for your food its takes a while if buying takeaway. The one thing i've notice which could be health and safety is that there is so many staff in the kitchen at one time which makes it a crowded kitchen, especially if its a small kitchen.

E.This is a regular place I go to - super delicious! Their sushi is amazing and their teriyaki chicken donburi/Katsu/karaage is amazing! Love the dragon roll sushi. It's pretty chill, you get everything yourself and pay before you eat. It's always super cheap and you definitely get heaps of food for what you pay! Would definitely recommend.

K.(Translated) Central, a stone's throw from Octagon, you will find this restaurant. The food is tasty and fine, it's just not Japanese. The very friendly Chinese operators have created their own mix of Japanese and Chinese cuisine. If you are looking for original Japanese sushi, you will be very disappointed.

Zentral, Ein Katzensprung von Octagon entfernt, findet man dieses Restaurant. Das Essen ist lecker und in Ordnung, bloß japanisch ist es nicht. Die sehr freundlichen chinesischen Betreiber haben eine eigene Mischung aus japanische und chinesische Küche gebastelt. Wer Original japanische Sushi sucht, Wird aber sehr enttäuscht werden.
