R.What a lovely meal for a month anniversary with my partner!
The classic design and the collection was stunning. The fish of the day surprised us, especially the pink colour sauce.
Everything just so right, thanks for the friendly staff. We definitely will come back.
T.Been to Plato on several occasions and this time found service and meals of a tip top standard.
Service was attentive and the meals were of a generous proportion given that most top restaurants were prone to being on leaner serving size.
Well worth the visit if haven't been there ever or in awhile.

J.We had a great anniversary dinner here! The portion size was nice and big for the price - like what I would expect to get in the US. The service was the best Ive had in Dunedin; very attentive and knowledgable. My wife has food allergies and they easily catered to her needs. My steak was cooked with skill - the best ive had in New Zealand. And the sauce was excellent. My wife said the salmon was delicious and cooked perfectly. The dessert brownie was still warm and you can tell that a lot of love and care was added by the little details ( sprinkled dried berries on top). Over all one of the best meals we've had in a long time. We will definitely be going back.
D.Wonderful seafood spot with delicious food -- seafood of course, and not much but (one vegetarian and one chicken dish, perhaps a steak or chop could be made without the seafood sauce or component). Fresh, local ingredients. Decent, local wines. Quirky decor. Kid-friendly for lunch (e.g., fish and chips), and perhaps for an early dinner before it gets really crowded. And it gets crowded, so reservations recommended (although we popped in right when they opened and promised to be quick).

R.Hands down the best place for seafood in Dunedin. Never had a bad meal here, appetizers, mains and desserts are all top notch. Staff are all friendly and well informed about the menu and specials. This is a place that you must go to while in Dunedin if you like seafood. It is on the pricey side but you won't feel bad about spending the money when you're meal is over. Love this place.

M.I work weekends so my Friday night is Tuesday night. As you might imagine it is even more difficult to find places to eat if you finish at 7:30 to 8pm at night so to find somewhere that is pleased to take your booking and makes you feel more that welcome is a blessing.
Now to the food, we weren't in love with our entrée. It was interesting but not overly exciting the Garlic bulbs were beautifully baked but it was hard to find a good combination from the rest of the items to go with it. I was a bit worried that we had hit the wrong place this time but along came the mains. WOW what a change ! You know when the whole table goes quiet as the food has taken over everyone's thought process. All three meals were full of flavour and perfectly cooked. After trying a little of Mum's Southern monk fish curry and Peter's flatiron steak, I knew I'd be back for more. I had the Salmon deconstructed sushi style, beautiful. Will follow my gut instinct next time and get the smoked fish pate for entrée.

V.A hidden gem. Great seafood, very generous potions and a decor from yesteryear. Enjoyed our meal, enjoyed the service. Definitely not 5 star or silver service but great food served with a genuine smile, no hesitation in going back next time in Dunedin. Will return on our next visit. recommend

J.It’s not often you get fine dining style cuisine mixed with big proportions. These are ‘southern portions’, I ordered kelp encrusted Tarakihi with lemon butter sauce and it came as 4 fillets! If you are wanting to sample well cooked local seafood this is the place. Great quirky interior, don’t be put off by the industrial location.

A.100% how seafood should be done. Plato shies away from any generic restaurant style too with a very unique setting, décor and style. The food is by far the best part though.
M.Reservation and greeting were perfect, and the food was wonderful. But while all 3 servers were very friendly, personable, nice, and helpful, all three were severely overworked. We were asked once if our food was OK, but for all other service, we had to get up and ask, including an intermediate request for a new plate, for our dessert menu, to order our dessert, and to get our check. The servers were going full speed all the time trying to handle the number of tables that were all in use -- the current wait staff is great, but there aren't enough of them. The manager told me they are trying to get more servers, but . . . .
T.We enjoyed a terrific dinner at Plato after a long drive down from Christchurch. The ingredients were fresh plus the dishes were creative and interesting. We were a large group (8) with kids (ages 6-11) and the service was perfect. Also, because the restaurant is a bit outside the town center, it feels less overwhelmed by the tourist crowds.

Would definitely recommend and we will certainly be back.Overall we were quite disappointed and will stick to our “usual” seafood restaurant here in Dunedin. That said we just had our wedding reception here and Nigel and Rose were an absolute pleasure to deal with, accommodating as could be and really worked with us when it came to the wines (yum!!) and menu (double yum!!), really enabled us to punctuate the celebration of our day with whanau and friends

N.Always hard to choose from the menu here, as I never feel like there's anything on it that I wouldn't enjoy. The food is good; neither plain nor pretentious. It seems that anything added to a dish is added because it will improve it, rather than because someone felt the need to show off.
