Love coming here. I always sit outside on the deck and look at the surf. When it gets busy the wait is pretty long at times. I highly recommend getting the doctor feel good trio. It’s such good value and cheap as well $21 for basically 3 different meals.

Great restaurant for families and couples alike. We headed in on a Saturday evening without a booking and there were two tables available around 6pm, with 4 other tables reserved around us for later in the evening. Our orders were taken quickly by our very friendly hostess. The well sized entrée was delivered in good time. We were offered drinks which were also delivered very quickly. There was a good selection of mains, in which we chose the steak, although viewing plates arriving around us, the fish and chips would have also hit the spot really well. Maybe next time. We had dessert too and it was a highlight of the evening! Friendly staff, great food, well priced - we'll be back (for the fish and chips)!

They keep the wonderful service during peak hours, good mocha and foods. The salmon served with Asian style noodles which was amazing, the mushroom dishes was too salty for me. Overall, nice atmosphere for chilling.

Great service and excellent food. Wide variety of food selection and opens till 5pm on Sunday. Nice view of the sea and service was attentive. The portion was rather big and great value for the $9 potato wedges.

Lovely cafe, small but perfect. Staff are really lovely and seem to know all the locals. Cabinet and fresh food looks so good , makes it hard to choose. Something for everyone from the super healthy to fish n chips or a burger. Have been here many times now for a meal, breakfast or just a coffee and slice and have never had anything to complain about. Staff are ALWAYS 10/10 and all the food iv tried has been great.

This is a great cafe found at St Clair beach in Dunedin. This very popular venue provides a large range of delicious options at reasonable prices. The servings were huge. I had an excellent omelette and smoothy (see photo). The staff were very professional, friendly and helpful. The place was tidy and comfortable. Would definitely go there again.

Lunch was perfect, staff were excellent. Only downside were the vociferous Americans talking loudly and non stop. If they didn't say "like" every fourth word, they wouldn't have to talk as much!!! It was like, loud, like, non stop, like annoying like. All you can hear is LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE LIKE. ok, that's my venting. Highly recommend this cafe for healthy fresh food. Definitely be back when next visiting St Clair Beach.

Really delish Emersons beer battered fish and chips served with fries, salad and homemade tartare sauce. My friend had the grilled salmon fillet on a bed of green salad. Can get quite busy but the wait is worth it! Great ambiance and options for seating.

In my most recent visit, I felt that the standards have dropped at Starfish. Staff were not attentive and was more interested in watching the CCTV before serving customers. Took the staff at the till a couple minutes before even acknowledging there were customers standing in front of the till. Food was really yummy and beautifully done! Well done to the kitchen team as the meals that I received were very well plated!

I've been a few of times recently. The burgers are amazing -- I'd rate them as the best in Dunedin and will definitely return for them. Main dishes are huge portions and obviously cooked with skill but because they lack seasoning so they're good but not great. Ironically they need more salt. Great value drinks and seating opinions make it one of my go to places for casual dining and drinks.

First visit = exceptional! Second visit = not so much. Ordered the Starfish stack both times, 2nd time my poached eggs were still gooey and cold in the middle, my hollandaise was split, the entire meal was luke warm and the presentation looked like it had fallen on the floor and been put together again by a 1 armed Michael J. Fox. I'll give them another go as I have friends that rave about it but that particular day was not legit.

Really lovely food with a lot of great options. Generally really helpful friendly service. One waitress who didn't appear to want to be there as she rolled her eyes at us, didn't take our order for dessert and literally slammed chairs around us. Hopefully just an off day for her.

Been to St Kilda many times but first visit to the Starfish which is a real loss but better late than never! Food was absolutely fantastic and the location, sitting basking in the Sunday morning sun was unbeatable. Portion size was large so if you're looking for something to soak up the excesses of the night before, you won't be disappointed. Word to the wise. The peanut butter based smoothie is a meal in its own right! I ordered one along with my main and it was only by Herculean effort I managed to polish the whole lot off 😅. Will be back as soon as we can!

Love Starfish always come in for the smoked salmon omelette.. was worried they would drop it off the menu as I knew they had changed the lunch menu, but to my delight i went there today and ordered my favorite smoked salmon omelette.. only to find it wasn't quite the same as it use to be. Slightly disappointed as the old omelette was perfect... it was a smaller portion but still the same perfect flavor. Bring back the old big tummy filler omelette.. loved it :) Still love this cafe it has the best cabinet food around and is value for money. Will always be back for my omelette

A bit of a mixed experience with this one, as food was yummy and well presented, but we did wait for about half an hour for it to arrive and a few other things to take away from the experience. There's a mix of table styles, and we were sitting by a very high table with tall stools which wasn't very comfortable. We then ordered freshly squeezed orange juice ($6) that came in tiny jar-glasses full of ice and was not squeezed, but was made in a blender. It tasted very watery and we had to return it. Our mains were French toasts and a salmon omelette, which were both very nice and good sized portions. The place was very busy and the music was too loud, so can't say much for atmosphere. For the final touch they accidentally added some sides we didn't order to the bill and didn't take the overpriced diluted blended oranges off until I requested it. Pretty good potential but disappointing experience.

After a couple average meals and coffee, this place nailed it. Highly rated by locals is a good sign. Service was pure class on a busy morning and they didn’t feel like you were being painful with our varied coffee orders. Mushroom and Haloumi dish was 5/5 and the avo smash on Tumeric toast was 5/5. We come here fairly regularly for brekky, and sit outside with the fur-baby. Perfect coffee spot pre- or post- beach walk. Food is always delicious. The beef brisket with flatbread on the new menu is drool-worthy. And we've always found the service to be excellent. Only complaint I've had in the past is if you order one of their delicious juices they fill the whole glass with ice so you don't get much juice! But I haven't ordered one in a while for that reason so maybe they've changed that :)

Came once before and had an amazing lunch, decided to come again and was so disappointed. It was definitely a busy day but not busier than normal. We waited for over an hour for our food and with kids who were super hungry. No one advised us on a wait time at all especially when it’s gonna take over an hour staff should definitely say. Service was also poor. We asked a woman how long it would be for our meals as we were confused because people who arrived 20 minutes after us had there meals before us, and she said she didn’t know and that it “was a really busy day”. I think just more focus on customer service and it would be perfect. Just really lacking in that department for sure.

The Star Fish Cafe is my favourite cafe in St Claire. Nothing better than catching a couple of waves then relaxing with a nice flat white. Service is usually pretty good, more often than not they are on point. Great coffee!

The place is amazing. I loved the food. There was a bit of a wait on the orders coming out, but given the number of people that were there (it was full), I thought the staff did very well. Drinks came out quickly. I strongly recommend phoning in advance to book a table. The place was full on Sunday morning. Will definetly go back again. Thanks guys.

Saturday 6th of October. We were taken upstairs where a room awaited us. My cousin and I both have hip problems, and our hostess showed us the toilet so no need to go down stairs. WARNING; I am a smoker and we were allowed to smoke on the balcony. This was a small gathering for our granddaughter’s 21st. Amazing staff and a special thank you to our beautiful hostess Jo.

Randomly popped into this cafe for breakfast while exploring Dunedins beach. Was pleasantly surprised. The food was amazing! Delicious, healthy and reasonably priced for a good tasty breakfast. Really nice food and a lovely spot on a sunny day. Service is generally great with the only negative being some of the older staff can be a little bit short with you sometimes, particularly when it's busy (which they often are because otherwise it's a great place).

Went with a group of friends recently, Lovely meal. great atmosphere, All went really well until we went to pay. The real Disappointment is, it seems as if you can't pay for your meals individually if your in a group. The lady behind the counter split the whole Bill into 7 so we paid for everyone's meals and drinks including alcohol divided up between us all. Some members of the group only had a coffee with thier meal but were still made to pay more than they should have. the lady behind the counter was not accommodating at all with the situation, she said the person she served first who went to pay, said to split it. Afterwards, she said there was nothing she could do once the computer had split it... there was no way to reverse it. To me this makes no sense... it's 2019, their point of sale system was not ancient, so there should be a easier way for the computer system to figure it out, or perhaps she couldn't be bothered? If it wasn't for this I would have rated it a four star. ***Updated, starfish is awesome, just was annoyed*** 5 Stars for them because the food and service is Lovely.

We have been to Starfish on numerous occasions and have enjoyed the experience immensely. Unfortunetly tonight it was a huge disappointment. When arriving our expectations were high, we soon realised the time customers including ourselves were waiting on meals. One couple ended up leaving because of waiting so long, whilst we got told by our waitress she would be back to take our dessert orders she never returned so we went downstairs to order our own. The restaurant was not overally busy. The staff were dressed in gym gear (tights and gym shoes) I personally dont believe this is appropriate for a restarunt scene. Meals were delicious as per usual but tonight we went to Starfish for the overall experience, not just the food. Left feeling disappointed unfortunately.

Came in for a sneaky post-surf brunch and boy oh boy wowee what a ripsnorter. Can see why it's called starfish - shining bright in a dark Dunedin sky and a real rare catch. Haven't seen staff be so helpful since the one Gandalf used in Lord of the Rings. Five out of five stars, or as I now like to say, you're not Dunedin until you've eaten at Starfish.

After celebrating a birthday of a friend there today and enjoying a nice meal only to have it ruined by being charged a $25 fee for having our own cake delivered to the table which they took from us when we arrived.The Manager informed me that fee is charged as a handling fee for presenting the cake to the tabe with plates and forks.As it was the cake came back on the cardboard tray from the box.After having to go to the counter and order coffees which weren't offered when the cake arrived we waited and waited nothing arrived we asked and had to reorder as no record of order even though we had paid.Very dissapointed with Managers attitude when discusing the $25 surcharge fee for cake.Would advise not to take your own birthday cakes 😬
