Really good big breakfast, reasonably priced too. Coffee was a let down and it felt like we were inconveniencing the woman serving us by existing. We will return though. I feel like it's one of the final bastions of a decent breakfast feed.

Posting on behalf of my folks down in Dunedin. The black dog kitchen has become a treat that we all look forward at our house hold. Their blue cod is to die for and is abosolute perfection, golden and crunchy on the outside and melt in your mouth on the inside, absolutely delish! Highly recommend.

Beautiful place for Brunch. Service was great. Gentleman bringing the meals could be a bit better. Twice took meals to wrong table. Didn't like cutlery in container on table. With covid feel that cutlery should be brought out with the meal.

One of the best steak I've had in town. The meat was cooked to our liking. The chips were crispy on the outside but soft on the inside which is quiet artful. I'd definitely come back.

Best things about this place are their sweet desserts and coffee. Cheesecake chunks are very tasty and pretty big, would easily suffice for 2ppl to share. Main courses were good but nothing spectacular. Friendly service.

It took a while for them to serve three identical salmon dish. The food was fresh but nothing special. Catching the attention of the wait staff was impossible, I gave and had to go to the counter to order coffee. The place wasn't even full. A group arrived and after that, service struggled. Place was clean.

Popped in for a quick sandwich. Instead, my daughter had mushrooms on toast and I had eggs Benedict. The mushrooms were the best, ever. We’re going back just for that. The coffee was good, scenery beautiful as always. What a find! Thankyou Long Dog. We shall return.

Honestly, this is a wonderful find. The staff greeting is open, friendly and welcoming. Menu option selection has something for everyone ~ gluten free, vegetarian, children, and others. We ate the lemon herbs buttered fresh fish ~ huge proportion x 3 fillets ~ with freshly made salad and perfect crinkled fries, plus a schnitzel of thick steak covered in freshly made mushrooms 🍄😋baked potatoes and steamed vegetables - go there hungry ~ you will come out fully satisfied. Hunt this restaurant down and definitely go there.

We were impressed with Black Dog this evening and couldn't fault it at all. We both had a steak. The vegetables and steaks were cooked to perfection, well presented and good portion size. The service was fantastic. Meals came out quickly and the waiter was attentive, friendly and professional. It was lovely to come into a warm environment on a cool night. Really good value for money.

I love this place! It has been one of my fav’s for years... I can pop in for a “filling day-long” bfast (anytime b4 noon) and it really does keep me fueled till I can organise my evg meal @8pm. Tonight tho, Black Dog truly exceeded my expectations of service!! I had visitors in town for a 21st... of course we decided they needed to have a solid meal b4 arriving at the venue - however running late, I decided to place our order by phone (using their website to read the menu). From the time I phone ordered, till we stood up to leave - 35mins tops!! Excellent service, everyone VERY impressed with their food AND to top it all off, I managed to drop them at the 21st venue only 9mins late.... Oh, I do appreciate the advantages of living in Dunedin 😉👍

This place has been a definite favourite for many years. The food is consistently delicious and the portion sizes are generous. Our table shared garlic bread and calamari followed by beef schnitzel (basically ribeye without the bone and flattened out) with mushroom sauce, pan fried blue cod and the black dog burger. No complaints and everything cooked to perfection. Had a relax on the couch afterwards with a glass of Hawkes Bay Rose and a beer.

We went in at lunch time asked if we could eat of the Dinner menu as we really wanted steaks. The staff were very friendly and aloud us to order of the Dinner menu. We ordered the garlic mushrooms and the garlic prawns both very yummy. We both had steaks and they were cooked perfectly, with fresh salad and hot chips, had no room for any sweets.

The blue cod was yummy but the chips they stacked them on were stone cold or just warm as the plate felt it had come out of the fridge. How simple is it to warma plate! The vegetables was a small portion and for just under 28 dollars it was an over priced meal. I should have returned my cold meal and would have if the staff had asked as is the usual practice in other little bar cafes.

This place is great! We have been trying to find (a) an affordable priced place (b) with good quantity and quality food. We found it! We got the beef burgers ($10 each)- they were HUGE and both the burger and fries were delicious! We were there at happy hour on a Saturday night which runs until 8pm, so we also got $4.5 beers. We were stuffed and didn't spend much at all! The service was amazing as well.
