All the normal Japanese meals but really one step nicer. You can really taste the difference, fresh, and beeuuutiful. Beef was done properly, full of flavour and tender Katsu curry was full of real flavour, better than what you can make at home Sushi was super fresh, and good texture Service, both servers were enthusiastic and helpful. 5 out of 5

One of our favorite showcase restaurants in Dunedin where we proudly bring all our guests. Some friends swear it's the best ever. Today was no different. We went for lunch, service a bit slow to start with. When the food takes over then you couldn't care for anything else in this world. Agadashi tofu, spicy tofu furai salad, kakaage, miso soup. Everything was as usual 10/10. Fresh salad leaves, well balanced dressings and umami rich flavors. omg this place is absolutely must in dunners. Three of us with 3 soups, 4 dishes and just $49. I could have paid double the amount for such high quality food. Thanks George for running such a fantastic place. Thank you chefs for another outstanding dining experience.

Close to Dunedin City Center, The Jitsu is an excellent Japanese Restaurant. The foods are excellent( specially sea food bento box, it is yummy 🙂) . Perfect for weekend solo/family lunch. I have been there couple of times during lunch time with my friends. This place is absolutely recommended.

31/08/2016 - reasonably priced, yummy and delicious 😋. The food came out quite fast after the three entrees. This Dunedin Japanese restaurant is as authentic as you can get outside Japan. Even the setting and environment feel very warm 😄 and welcoming. The customer service was good and we were well looked after 😊. Would I go back? Yes 🤗

The food is great. The decor forget about it. The staff are friendly. They were a number of things that they had run out of but this is a small niggle. Not perfect but still very good.

Jitsu's decor is one of the best ones I've seen in the Japanese restaurants I've been to. They even do have a separate room for bigger groups where you can sit on the floor (twice the size of what you can see in the picture). The food was delicious. I haven't liked earlier pickled foods that much but their pickled vegetables were nice! Also the sushi rice which they used in the few sushis I ate was really nice. Highly recommend for a nice dinner :)

I love this place. So delicious food! But this place is very busy so it need to wait ordering food more than 20~30 min.

Fancied something quick and easy and cheap this is the spot. Thought the food was reasonably priced and tasty. The service was a bit slap dash as I ended up with a few of the sauces and soups more on the table than in the bowl but friendly and quick.

If we want to go Japanese food, then The Jitsu is the one to go at the moment. This time we got Sushi Platter, Ramen, Katsu Don and Tempura Udon. Sushi Platter is great, and Ramen and Tempura Udon are okay, I mean, it tastes good, but if you are Japanese, you can't expect the same quality as soup is too thick. I guess that is what local people like.

Brilliant. Beautiful food fabulous service. Because it's in a busy part of town you may need to go a few minutes earlier to find a park. Only downfall the ladies toilet needed a clean. They weren't the best. Otherwise couldn't fault food at all.

A minimum of 5 people is required for the banquet menu. We were lucky and tried the Set 2 and it was pretty good. The food looked fresh and yummy. Their presentation and service was great. The portions were pretty decent and we 5 couldn't finish everything. It was pretty packed, still they managed a pretty good service. And above all, the prices are pretty decent. I would love to go back and try their bento.

This is a well-liked Japanese restaurant, very busy, kid friendly and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. We ordered the Seafood Yakisoba and it was missing seasoning and the bonito flakes. Sashimi was good apart from the Tuna!. Very good food for an affordable price. Two can have a big meal hear for less than $30. The curry's and sushi are awesome

I’ve been here three times and all of them have been pleasant except the last time when I discovered a chickens leg in my vegan box. Staff didn’t seem to care when I brought it to their attention.

Great environment. Food is ok. I ordered sashimi bento. For the sashimi, salmon and white fish were fresh. For the tuna, the chef should not have used that part, little bit chewy and little bit fishery, might be because of not handling it probably when cutting the fish. The steamed rice was not good enough, they should choose other brand of rice. As such a big restaurant, having only 1 toilet definitely not enough. I hope i am not too harsh but seems some of the kitchen staff were Japanese, and i just have a higher expectation for that.

Great place to eat that caters to a well rounded vegan diet! They offer not only tofu and edamame for vegan protein but also a delicious "chicken" substitute that goes very well with all dishes. My personal favorite would be either the bento box or one of the curries offered.

Affordable, fast, tasty - a restaurant that can (and does) serve lunch well within the hour. Dishes range $10-15 for lunches and usually $12-20 for dinners. Be aware - it can get busy. I'd strongly recommend booking for evenings, or you'll miss getting a table.

My wife and I come here regularly. Usually it's good, there have been a few occasions when they weren't at their best though. I like the teriyaki chicken bento and the wife always gets the chicken katsu curry or the spicy tofu furai, both of them are tasty. Can get quite busy during meal times so might consider booking a table first.

One of the best places in Dunedin for authentic Japanese style cuisine. The decor of the restaurant is a bit aged and in summers on a very hot day (which is rare in Dunedin) one might feel too hot as there is no air-conditioning. This is the only reason I am giving four stars. The food itself is beyond 5 stars. They also have Halal and Gluten-free foods available in a large variety for Muslims and Coeliac patients. The wife along with myself are regulars here due to this reason.

My wife and I often enjoy eating at The Jitsu. The restaurant has three different seating arrangements, booth, table, and Tatami. There are a good selection of dishes and the prices are very reasonable. We've tried nearly everything on the menu now and have enjoyed it all. One word of warning, weekend nights can be very busy so it is advisable to book ahead.
