Ordered beef schnitzel and cod fish and chips. The fish n chips is very recommended, a lil bit small portion for me but quality is there. Such a Fine food. I enjoy it very much. Very friendly staff, and if you are lucky, you could get a table with the beach view.

Absolutely outstanding meal. We shared the seafood platter which was fabulous. Thankfully we asked the size as the arancini starter sounded great but we were advised against it! We looked at other meals that came out and they were all good sizes. Also tried the Catlin's brewery beers and they were great. Was fabulous to see that the restaurant was fully booked on a week night-even if it was the holiday's. Definitely worth coming here.

Best fish and chips I've ever had with a beautiful view. The restaurant is so artistic decorated with ocean-themed ornaments, making a vibrant vibes. The fireplace warms up the whole place in winter, which made me want to take a seat next to window, grab a cup of cappuccino and spend the whole sunny winter afternoon. Loved the dinning experience with my partner. Would like to come and visit again.

Chips was lovely, the young lady who served us was very polite and cheery, however, sorry to say the Trainee young man was not helpful at all, we ordered chips but he didnt ask if we wanted any condiments with our chips, just said the were inside, pointed referring I had to get them, not had that in a pub or restaurant before! He may need a bit more training on customer care and hospitality.

Good food and friendly service with accommodating wait staff. Seafood platter was a wee bit on the expensive side but the quality and portion size more than made up for it. "The Nugget" Pizza was very good too. Good range of drink options. There are only a couple of eatery options ayt Kaka Point, but The Point Cafe & Bar is a pretty good one and worth a stop if you're in town.

Never been to Kaka Point before and wasn't sure what to expect when it came to local dining. What a complete surprise. Food and service at The Point Cafe was first class. Had the seafood platter for one (see picture) - yes for one. Who does that these days. Selection of squid, blue cod, scallops, mussels, prawns and cockles. All cooked to perfection. Steak also went down well with those eating with us as did the Blue Cod, salad and chips. Just one piece of advice - book early as apparently it is nearly always booked out.

Ignore negative reviews. Good food and drink in restaurant at fair prices. Limited size dining room, which is nicely panelled, so you will need to book. If there's no free table there then you can order bar food not restaurant food in the bar. Shared main seafood chowder and seafood platter. See attached food/beer photos. Very nice. Good local beer. Bar is a sports bar for locals with a pool table & screen showing sport. This is a good food Kiwi pub bar cafe with an amazing view over Kaka Point. Worth a visit. Book first or be prepared to be disappointed. Last service 7.30pm. Popular with locals and visitors. All tables were full on Sun. Deserts good. Shared a sticky date pudding with ice cream. Nice. Good value at under $100 for two mains a shared desert and two drinks for two, so under $50 each.

Friendly staff, visited on a Friday evening sound plenty of locals and visitors. Make sure you have a look through ALL their albums. There's loads of photos and information on the history of the area. Had the chowder and calamari, nice, but just average. Note: the takeaway, restaurant and bar menus are different prices and can only be consumed in those areas. I would have liked to have a small chowder but that was only on the restaurant menu.

Lovely meals, although I ordered the seafood platter, the most expensive main and I asked if salad could be replaced by veges (same price listed on menu for both). I was told by waitress that I would have to pay the extras price on top, so I chose a meal that included veges. I saved $10.00 on meal and Restaurant lost $10.00. Did not make sense to me, and on top of that I really enjoyed my second choice. Restaurant staff were efficient and friendly, bar manager? was unfriendly, unwelcoming and surly. Perhaps he was distracted by the very noisy group(especially the women) who were playing pool in the bar area. We certainly were while waiting and then eating our lovely meals in the restaurant area. Needless to say we ate up, paid the account and were back relaxing in our accommodation overlooking a very calm and serene seaside vista within 50 mins from leaving it for, what we hoped would be a relaxing dinner to top off 2 beautiful days in the Catlins.

Nice location with a beautiful view on the beach. Food was nice, good takeaways and interestingly sold cheaper as a takeaway as opposed to eating in the restaurant which was nice. The boy at the counter was pretty useless, which might sound mean to say- but he was rude unhelpful and seemed to have no idea what he was doing or possibly just didn't care. Saw him treat other people just as rudely as well and when someone asked him for a takeaway fork.. and he acted like it was the hardest request in the world. And the poor man was never given a fork!

What a surprise! The only place to eat and drink here but couldn't fault it. The chefs clearly knew their flavours. The seafood platter was excellent in particular the green lipped mussels, probably the best I have had. We just had to have dessert each night, topped off with a cheeky southern comfort! The banana curry was fab too, the extra prawns were awesome!

We'd been looking for a country style pub with a roaring fire all trip and the cold windy day today would be perfect. The Point cafe was perfect. We had a couple of glasses of The Catlin's Stout in the bar before retiring to the restaurant for dinner. We ordered a seafood platter for 2. Only 2 items were fried, the blue eyed cod and s&p squid (very tender). The rest were grilled prawns and scollops and clams and mussels in a delicious stock. Nice chips, bread ( for dunking in the mussel stock) and salad with a lovely dressing. Delicious and all for $70. Great value

This is an ideal stopping point; either to or from Nuggets Point lighthouse. It is the only place worth stopping along the twisting and winding road to the headland. The position of the cafe, bar and shop combination makes it a great place to pause in the day. It faces the beach with good parking for either beach or cafe. Good food and friendly service.

What a lovely spot. It's the only eatery/watering hole here, and well worth a visit. Restaurant was booked out, so bar menu was offered or wait for an hour for a table, we chose bar menu,told us the view was better anyway, not wrong there! Staring out to sea has always been mesmerizing for me, I feel tranquil. We had Seafood chowder and blue cod fish bites with chips. Mmmmmm yummy is all I need to say, washed it down with a locally brewed beer, which was nice too. Double thumbs up and price was very reasonable, food was served up fast,speaking of a very well organised kitchen. I would definitely come here again and bring friends/whanau too!

Our family dined here for lunch on our way through the Catlins, driving from Invercargill to Dunedin. Simple and tasty fare from the menu. My other half had the fish - and he said it was delicious. My two girls and I had toasted sandwiches and they were absolutely delicious! One of the best toasted sandwiches we'd had in a while from a pub/cafe. Fantastic view of the coast and beach - well worth a visit.

Spent a weekend at Kaka Point and ate at the Point Cafe & Bar three time. Dinner - what a great experience - food was delicious and a good selection. Next night - take away - burgers just like mum makes so tasty and filling. Brunch to end the weekend - the works and loved that a hash brownie wasn't out of a packet. Way to go The Point Cafe and bar - makes for a great destination when you really want the weekend off. Very glad we booked :)
