Service and atmosphere are great. Mocktail is amazing. I had Slow Braised Beef cheek hot pot. Beef and mushroom is well cooked. Beef was so tender but the whole thing was VERY SALTY. I couldn't finish my meal and by the time I left my tongue was numb.

Great customer service. We dealt with three staff, all went above and beyond with suggestions and help. Amazing vegetarian options, had the mushroom hot pot was absolutely delicious. Would highly recommend to other vegetarians looking for something innovative to eat.

Food (taste) here is quite good, but the hefty price tag doesn't help since the portion size is reasonably small as well. Some of the mains were straight up having unjustifiable value (12 hour beef brisket is tiny and expensive with no sides). Be prepared to spend at least 40 per pax but the cost can significantly increase if you order sharing platters. Ambience is okay, slightly too noisy.

It was still early by the time we finished our tour of Royal Albatross Centre in Otago Peninsular. We even spent some time stopping by at a small community playground on our way back to Dunedin city. I had to meet my friends, Fergus & Audrey (whom I knew since my Otago days) at the famous Cobb & Co and we still have more than an hour to kill. The kids were hungry too so I decided to stop at the Octagon for a quick bite. The establishment was spacious with their own bar and tables + chairs.. enough to cater to big crowd. A vault-like room at one corner filled with wines for those looking for a good night out, but one thing that got me excited was the Speight's beer. Nothing brings back sweet memories that the beer that I consumed the most during my time in Dunedin. ◾Vault 21 Award Winning Dumplings NZ$12 - prawn, coriander, chilly & lime dressing ◾Fries NZ$10 - a huge basket of perfectly fried fries with spicy salt and chilly mayo ◾Korean Fried Chicken NZ$15 with gochujang chilly dipping sauce ◾Smoked pork spare ribs NZ$20 - grilled upon marination with sticky sauce, with chilly and crushed macadamia ◾Bang Bang Chicken Bowl NZ$25 - Korean fried chicken, broccoli, green beans, lettuce, sesame, peanut dressing, chilly jam and steamed rice ◾Fish & Chips ◾Dunedin's famous Speight's beer - a pride of this city, and it was as good as I remember it. Even she commented that the beer was smooth and flavourful. We like most of the food here, plus the service was impeccable despite my kids making noises. So good that we came back the very next day, our last lunch before heading to the airport to catch our plane to Auckland enroute to Malaysia.

As with most other reviewers, I was very happy with my meal. The sticky, smokey, treacly ribs were delicious, the fried chicken was salty and juicy and the fried rice was savoury bliss. Huge drinks menu too and top staff. They cater for small tables as well as big groups

The staff, the food and drink selection here is amazing! I keep coming back for more. Vault 21 is my favourite restaurant and bar in Dunedin by far! Max is an awesome barman, the girls are super friendly and André the owner will go out of his way for ya! They have a lot more champagne in the cellar too if you can't find the bottle you want on the wine menu! 🍾 🍲 🍽

This used to be Raa bar which was average, Vault 21 is a very different higher class establishment, the cocktails were $18, and the menu looked really good but again a little pricey. Would definitely return as it's a great location on the Octagon.

I loved the rustic feel of this restaurant and bar. The food was beautifully presented and really really tasty. Great outdoor seating looking out towards the Octagon. They also had plenty of indoor seating with lots of space so you don’t feel crammed in. A lovely place to eat a leisurely long lunch.

Our dinner meal was outstanding! Nice ambience, attentive service, and the food was all thoughtfully crafted. Some super nice flavours and interesting textures. We shared a bunch of small plates (grilled broccoli, shrimp fried rice, Korean fried chicken, pork ribs, and beef wontons) all of which were finger lickin' good (literally), but saw plenty of mains at tables nearby that had us drooling. The food is a really nice fusion of various Asian influences. They looked like they had an extensive selection of on tap brews too, although we didn't try those out.

We got the 12 hour slow cooked beef brisket and honestly were a bit underwhelmed. Just a big hunk of beef with some prawn and two rostis, and they didn't even offer any water. Good ambiance and live music though brought it up to four stars.

These guys are supposed to be one of the leading restaurants in Dunedin. Their food and setting delivers, but their service is left really lacking and disappointing. A recent visit saw us wait 15 minutes before any drinks orders were taken, and a similar amount of time to clear our plates. These were opportunities missed by the staff to sell us another drink or two over the course of the evening. In the end, we dined with a drink, and then left promptly instead of buying more.

Creative Asian fusion menu, we really enjoyed the food and ambience. Staff is attentive and friendly, also helpful at walking us through their menu. We were seated at a between indoor and outdoor long table, we liked that we got a bit of sun but not at the risk of getting burned. The only down side is we got to smell the cigarette smokes, which was a shame with a group of children there.

Went here at night as a nightclub. They had a door charge of $5 and a large outdoor section fenched off with portaloos. Inside it was rediculiouly full and it was impossible to move around.

It was a cold and rainy day but we stopped into Vault 21 and still sat outside. They had the heaters on so it was still comfy outside and that was perfect as our dogs were with us. The coffee was superb. The service was quick, unobtrusive and friendly. The light lunch was just so tasty. Portion sizes were bigger than we expected for the small bites too. Perfect overall.

Entree was a little disappointing, taste was absolutely fine but was just a bit of mesculin salad with about 3 tiny bits of chicken :( The main made up for it though, SO tasty! Silverfern farm beef, yum. Staff apologised for the wait as there was a mix up in the kitchen. Just thought for the price it could have been better or bigger portions?

Wow wow wow! Best dining experience I have had in Dunedin so far. We came in for lunch on Sunday 25th and 5 stars isn't enough. Food was beautiful, perfectly seasoned and many options, great for sharing if you want to try a bit of everything too! Amazing venue, we sat outside in the sun and was served by a lovely, attentive waitress. When paying she told us it was only her first week so very impressed with your team. Excellent drink options and my son enjoyed his passionfruit drunk. Could not fault this place if I tried, will be back

I saw a couple not so amazing reviews on here - IGNORE THEM- when I looked online but decided to pop in anyway when I was outside. DEFINITELY RECCOMENDED Seriously top class food - the pumpkin curry and garlic rice is the best meal I've had in a long time- good portion size and good friendly service.

Nice place to go for a social or family dinner. The food is delicious, but a tad overpriced for the size of the dish. Wouldn't be a go to for food. More options available with just as good food at better prices. As for Saturday nights prepare to pay a door charge and once you get in this is the place to sober up. Trying to get anywhere in this place on a Friday or Saturday is near impossible. I'd hate to know to outcome of a fire in the establishment.

Great brunch and people watching! My wife and I were pointed towards the Octagon and told there are many places there with great food and we found Vault 21 to be very good. The cocktails were great, the food was perfect, and the staff was very friendly even as they rushed around during the peak of brunch. Definitely a place to revisit!

We were warned by our waitress that the food would take a long time to arrive, about 40 minutes, which we accepted. When the food finally arrived the dumplings and bao buns were very good, the bang bang chicken that I ordered was, at best, bland and tasteless. We were still finishing our drinks, and waiting on coffee that we had ordered, when a very rude staff member started moving the chairs and tables around without any explanation. Here is a suggestion to the restaurant. If there is some bizarre by-law whereby you have to move your seating area at a certain time, then let your customers know well in advance. Don't just rudely move the seating area while your clients are still busy and provide no explanation. Your paying customers deserve some respect.

Nothing short of incredible! Known better as a night club for students, I was pleasantly surprised to find that Vault 21 doubled as an Asian Fusion restaurant before it becomes overrun with the party animals of Dunedin. The staff were very helpful, friendly and prompt, accompanied by an efficient menu of delicious and unique cuisine made for an extremely enjoyable evening. We will definitely be returning for a meal and a good night on the town.

Vault 21 is great for both lunch and dinner. The staff are very friendly and accommodating. I have been here multiple times for lunch, and once for dinner. Around 8pm they remove the tables and the place transforms into a lovely bar thats great for having a few beers and a buggie if you've got the nurve. Note: If the university students are still in town, don't expect this place to be quiet after 10pm. Its gets a bit wild after that. (Uni is unusually in full swing between March and November)

The best way to describe the experience of dining at Vault 21 was... soggy. The food tasted OK but everything was plated in a way that resulted in sogginess. We ordered the pork belly sliders (overpriced), the salt and pepper squid (buried under a Thai-style salad and drenched in vinegar, totally ruining the squid) and the fries (a huge portion but otherwise pretty average). The service was sporadic and indifferent, the setting OK. Not really recommended.

The cuisine is quite a fusion, offering interesting Western inspired mains, and Oriental inspired starters. The Korean fried chicken with gochujang sauce was okay, not quite the crispy texture expected for Korean fried chicken. The lamb spring rolls had a peppery sauce and was good. The starter of the day available was a pork and coriander wonton with a chilli lime sauce which had an inconsistent wrapper texture. Their sticky beef wontons come in threes, but an additional one can be ordered, to make it easily shared between two persons. I found this to be the best starter we had. The sauce was a creamy contrast to the wontons, and provided a good twist in flavour. Lastly, it's a great place to unwind and have a few drinks.

In a place with not a huge number of options, this place is a diamond in the rough. It is Asian fusion and not very authentic, similar to Wagamama, but the food is very good. The garlic rice was very good!

On sunny days it's a great place to enjoy a coffee in one of the many bars. Once a week there is a small market with local goods. You have access to the iSite, the cinema and the art gallery.
