I love their Butter Chicken! The BEST Butter Chk that I had so far, in NZ! Better than in Auckland one! Their menu is not too large too, which can guarantee all of the dishes are fresh and can cook out fast. Be careful with restaurants that have extremely large menu, but lack of chefs in the kitchen and not full house, coz the food may turned out not fresh and long waiting time!

Beautiful Indian food. Best poppadoms I have ever tried!! I had a Lamb kebab. Sauce was yum. Half a tandoori chicken. Very tender and tasted charcoal cooked. My mains were Goat vindaloo with a Roti. Goat was tender and sauce yummy. The Roti was perfect. They were short on staff, but our stand in waitress Mandeep was not chatty, but she was lovely. Thoroughly enjoyed. Clean bright ambience. Full range of drinks.

We were in town visiting for the first time while on our mini-moon and not knowing the area we Googled to have an Indian dinner delivered to our motel on Awapuni Road which we didn't think was far from everywhere. How wrong we were. Tamarind, just 3.1km away, wouldn't deliver because we weren't in their delivery area. So we ordered our dinner from Bollywood Stars who were delivering it faster than a fast thing. Seriously, we hadn't even finished unpacking and there was a knock on the door. Fast food to the maxx. And we weren't disappointed neither. We opted for medium heat on our mains and they arrived with just the right about of heat for both of us. We shared a mixed platter for two as our entree with Wifey ordering a couple of extra poppadoms. My main was lamb nawabi while The Boss ordered herself karahi lamb. Delicious. Would definitely do it again.

Incredible flavours of india! We had a quick holiday in Mahia and wanted to finish with a bang when we returned to Gisborne. Wow, what a delicious meal it was. My Chef Special was simply gorgeous. My wife had her favorite extra hot Vindaloo! It was amazing. Our entree Garlic tikka was juicy, tender and so tasty. Mushroom and peas rice was so flavoursome and Nan breads cooked to perfection. Our waitress greeted us with a beautiful smile at the door and sat us down with our menus. Didn't take long at all before we were eating our favorite dishes. So impressed with this restaurant and the waitresses. Thank you.

This is a very happening Indian restaurant in Gisborne. It was nearly full when we got there at abput 9pm. The ambience is wonderful and the staff is friendly and courteous. We ordered a semi dry chicken chilli and chicken fried rice. The chicken friend rice had tandoori chicken in it which was a welcome addition. We had ordered Indian hot and we got what we asked for! A must visit restaurant in Gisborne for authentic Indian food.

Best food in town by far. Great quality ingredients, the chicken is super flavorful with perfect texture. How do they do that?? Chicken is the tofu of the meat world and they make it amazing! Put this food in your face. You won't regret it.

I went here because this place has been giving away free kai on Sundays for those in need! (Not sure if they still do). So with that in mind I thought what a lovely place to go dine and spend our anniversary. The ambience was lovely and bright, we ordered a platter for two which was devine! I then ordered a fish curry which unfortunately was a big let down as the fish pieces was battered and then put in the sauce, and tasted bland. I was hoping for tasty filleted fish in a curry sauce. When I bought it to the waitresses attention she said she'd let the chef know, however I wasnt offered a replacement after waiting 20 minutes I had been forgotten about as the place filled. So that was sad as we had spent nearly $100. My hubby had ordered a seafood trio which he did enjoy. We also got our first two beers poured and served into glasses our second beer was bought to our table in the bottle :( I will go back however simply because I think they deserve a second chance!

Been way too long since our last meal from Bollywood. We ordered saag paneer, butter chicken (has to be done) and beef korma. Absolutely delicious!!! The saag had so many levels of flavour, the chicken was wonderfully smoky and the korma was full of chunks of beef. Loved it! Thank you Baljeet and your great team

It is a nice place to hangout. It has good food and nice vibe. Friendly and welcoming staffs and a decent options of food. The only thing I felt needed any change or upgrade is the bit of authenticity of Indian flavours in the food. The spicy and blast of flavours is the only thing I missed eating here. Apart from that me and my friends were quite happy with the service. Next time we visit Gisborne, we will definitely eat here again.

I have been there with my partner on 3 occasions and have enjoyed the hospitality and service received by the people who serve us. They also give back to the community by serving free meal for lunch on a Sunday afternoon at 1pm

Last night on may 10 my friend and i went to this place the food was awesome but i think the girl who was serving the food have to work on her customer service skills coz she was like dumping food on the table nd made her way back to the kitchen NO PROFESIONALIZËM in her job. We were traveling around north island nd tried all sorts of different restaurants but never experienced this sort of behavior. I hope they work on that.

Excellent restaurant. Came here during the start of summer season in November, and man was the place cosy and comfy with air con on and the bollywood music to match the atmosphere. Not to mention food was yum! Chicken Korma and Tandoori was to die for, probably the go to place for Indian cuisine if your in the town of Gisborne. Will be back with friends and family next visit.

Great food and ambiance here. We had the chilli paneer and dal makhani. Both were perfect. Really surprised how good the Indian Lemonade was. Tandoori Roti was soft as well. Service was fast paced given how busy it was. Being Indian, I don’t really enjoy as much Indian food in restaurants as home cooked meals but this was worth the visit. All in all great experience. Will definitely recommend family and friends.

Great Indian food We had an enjoyable dinner here - Bollywood special lamb, eggplant Marsala and garlic naan. The food was very good and we asked for "Indian hot" which was a very nice level of spice for us. We had a mango kulfi (ice cream) for dessert which was excellent. There was no extra charge for rice and we were allowed to BYO a bottle of wine that we had bought from a local vineyard. The staff were really friendly and even though it was very busy our food came out quickly.

I have travelled a great deal, and have sampled butter chicken at many other restaurants. Bollywood's butter chicken has always been the best, hands down. This is why I was so disappointed when I ordered take out last night. Both my husband and I noticed that the sauce was VERY weak in flavour compared to normal. (tasted like a watered down version) The cheese and garlic in the naan was also sparse. In the past, a friend of ours (as well as ourselves) had noticed that other cuts had been made (only a few scraps of chicken in the dish). The staff were good about it when we mentioned it - and since then there has been a fair portion. My point is this - I can understand trying to be competitively priced with the competition - so I can understand making a cut somewhere. But guys, NEVER compromise the QUALITY of your food. People don't mind paying a little more for quality - as you have always been excellent. I don't want to go elsewhere, but I will if the quality doesn't pick back up.

Went here for dinner with my partner. The staff were really nice and were very attentive, however, a little bit hard to hear as both the male and female servers spoke quite quietly. We were given a decent amount of time to decide what we wanted, during which we were given a bottle of chilled water, some poppadums and, once ordered, our drinks were brought out very quickly. Our meals were also brought out in a very reasonable amount of time - especially considering the amount of other people eating there. We ordered Butter Chicken and Lamb Rogan and really enjoyed our meals. The atmosphere was nice and quite casual and we liked the music they had playing. Our only issue was that the dining area was a little cramped. However, we will definitely eat here again.

Decent combo deals available here - always outstanding service when eating in and takeaway orders seldom take longer than 20 minutes on a Friday evening so you can pop into the supermarket across the road and do some groceries and grab it when you’re done. The mushroom chicken curry is a must!

Best Indian restaurant in Gisborne by far. Baljeet and his team offer great personalised service and genuinely care whether you have had a nice meal or not. The new decor has revitalised this Gisborne icon and an innovative new menu truly offers choice that goes beyond the butter chicken, vindaloo and rogan josh staples. Dont hesitate to experiment with some of the new offerings-the chef is quite innovative. And expect to go beyond the standard Indian restaurant fare that is loaded with cream and sugar in other places. This place spells authentic! My recommendations are the Amritsari fish, bagara bhaingan (eggplant) and the chef's special chicken with spinach!
