L.Panna cotta should be taken off the menu. Nothing like an authentic panna cotta dessert. Served in a bowl that it was set in like a cheap instant pudding, with some super sweet, artificial strawberry sauce squirted on the top. The mains were nice but were brought out 2 minutes after our pizza bread appertiser. Also a mistake on the wine menu. Said it was from Gisborne but was from Marlborough.

G.Our table had the Ravioli, and Risotto alla pescatora for mains. Nice seafood in the Risotto. Italian Chocolate cake and Tiramisu were the selected desserts. Tiramisu was a highlight.Service was efficient and friendly.

A.Food really good and service quick and friendly. Had the Calamari as an entree, Amore Pizza and Scotch Steak for mains, and Lemon Sorbet and Profiteroles for dessert. All really delicious and generous portions.

A.I had the chicken fettuccine, since I'm GF I asked for that option, which gave me either spaghetti or Penne option, spaghetti not a fav of mine so opted for Penne, meal came, put dwn in front of me told runout of penne so had to have spaghetti GF. My gripe is that I wasn't asked or told that penne run out so had no option to rethink my meal,,, might have been polite to ask if I wanted to change my meal choice 🙄

V.Dined August 2020. Enjoyed our meal, and the accompanying wine. Bit of confusion when we arrived at a pre booked time and ended up changing seats but second table was better. Lots of choice on the menu and tasty, hearty portions. Staff were lovely. It is nice to be offered ground pepper to enhance the meal...maybe next time . Would definitely go back. Buon appetito

A.This is my go-to place in Gizzy whenever there is a motive to celebrate. I've been here multiple times for breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner, and can't decide what's my favorite time. This restaurant serves high-quality ingredients: super fresh mozzarella, top-notch olives (both black and green), proper prosciutto, and the best feta cheese I ever tasted - just to name a few. Their drinks menu is very comprehensive, with an excellent wine selection. The owner always goes the extra mile, making sure everyone's been attended to, and genuinely caring about his customers. The waitresses are always warm and welcoming, even on the busiest of the nights.
I am grateful to have a local restaurant where I can have an Italian escape for special dates. Thank you Portofino! :)
L.Pretty expensive and noisy due to high ceilings with everyone's conversation echoing . Small portions so left still feeling hungry. Nice staff though.

Unfortunately my carbonara had eggshells in it during my first visit, and there was a lot of dust falling from the ceiling during our second visit. Despite these two things I still think they deserve 4 stars because the food and service are both really impressive.
T.Portofino Gisborne - The food that rocks out of this awesome gem is always... ALWAYS. Amazing. The staff are EPIC - Attentive, always smiling - Even helped me carry my food out to my car cause I'm always buying for at least 2 families = ) Hands down... Favourite place in Gisborne for eats.
n.As my family and I had never been to Portofino before we had a great experience the food was amazing as well as the service. In our eyes Portofino is top quality and we will definitely be back🤩🤩

S.Great pasta and would definitely recommend that but the pizza was average at best so would not recommend that. Wait staff were peculiar to deal with. The female behind the bar was particularly rude, she would stare into the distance rather than acknowledge my existence and her tone, coupled with her icy demeanour, made her seem highly inconvenienced.

C.If you want authentic Italian food in Gisborne then this is the place to be. Excellent food with a great atmosphere let down by attentiveness and waiting times. It was Valentine's day, which meant the place was at maximum capacity, so staff still handled the numbers well. Will definitely come back again.

K.Service - apart from a new guy who was excellent - was average.... my Carbonara was ok but thought would be better from Italian restaurant and my husbands meal was forgotton and no apology - everyone else had finished their meal as he started....
R.I ordered the spaghetti again and it was nicely flavoured and chilli was balanced. I was disappointed that the lunch menu was so limited. Hopefully this is going to broaden and match the lunch menus at other portofino restaurants. Staff need a little more training....they probably should know what oregano is

B.Lunch was so good that we returned the following day for brunch and dinner! High quality ingredients, balanced flavours and perfect portion sizes. The homemade gnocchi were soft little pillows of goodness and the accompanying sauce was most excellent. The poached eggs with polenta and homemade ciabatta bread was full of flavour and cooked perfectly. The pizza and calzone were delicious and the insalata mista was the best side salad I've ever had in a restaurant. You can tell the chefs take great care to serve up their very best. In addition to the amazing food, the wonderful atmosphere and friendly service make Portofino the perfect place to dine. Thank you Ibraheim for making our dinning experiences memorable ones. We will definitely be back!

K.Beautiful set up. Friendly staff, delicious food. The bruschetta, ravioli and tiramisu were plate finishing good. Not to mention the house white wine was divine in my opinion. Highly recommend if you want something different than your usual restaurant. Will definitely be going back
