Is a nice clean bar/restaurant to eat and drink at, staff are very welcoming, helpful and accommodating. They have a very wide variety on their menu and the meals i have tried have been delicious. I also found the prices of meals wer very reasonable. Will definitely be back to try more of the menu. Highly recommend..... 5 stars

Always great value for money and fantastic service. We love it as a family friendly venue with loads of atmosphere and central to everything. Gorgeous views over the river and lots of different styles of seating. Love this place. Love the board specials as well as the comprehensive everyday menu!

I have been here several times and its our fave restaurant in Gisborne. The minute steak is delicious if you cant handle a big steak, highly recommend. The atmosphere is lovely, interesting and the staff are welcoming and friendly. 10/10

This place is always packed which says a lot about it. It's pub style food so the prices are very reasonable, but there are also restaurant type dishes too. I had the nachos which were great and couldn't finish them all there was so much. My guest had a ribeye steak with their choice of sides. Both meals came around 10 minutes after ordering which is really fast considering most of the tables were full. It would be suitable for families but maybe go earlier as it can get quite loud into the night, it is a pub after all.

Service was slow since there were a few big groups but all waitresses and staff worked very hard, especially the girl working at the bar, busy but always with beautiful smiles. My meal tonight was the Surf n Turf and it was absolutely amazing 😋 What i would really like to acknowledge, was the perfection of how my steak was cooked. I am very hard to please when it comes to how my steak is cooked 🙄 Tonight The Chef was on point and in fact, the 2nd Chef out of hundreds of restaurants i have visited, to get it right 😇 I will be sure to revisit hopefully soon and share another amazing experience. Well done to all who contributed 😊 FYI - Not sure if the garlic sauce was suppose to be watery or not (but it was still fill of flavour), if it is then ill know for next time to reduce amount 😉 Then this would be a banger of a dish with a 5 star rating 🎊 Thank You

As a holiday maker I tried their salt and pepper squid, It was so good I came back the next day too for the same thing and also tried the seafood chowder. What I can say is that the taste of both was great, and the staff were friendly and quick. The prices of the meals was very good considering this is city center. Well done The Rivers team

Nice restaurant with slight Irish pub touch. Seems to be popular on Sunday's, luckily have reserved a table upfront. The service was super friendly and keeping us happy. We've had a seafood salad and seafood delight which was a really tasty and fun. Maybe bit too many mussels on the plate (would prefer more fish), but the portion was good. Good beers on tap (Killkenny and Guinness). Overall nothing to complain about, will definitely come again👍🏼

Just had a birthday dinner here on Saturday 29th Aug 2020-We had a table of 13 and I want to say the service was excellent, nothing was a hassle to our waitress (even though it was packed & we're in level 2)!! The staff seemed like a well-oiled machine, their communication between each other was obviously spot on! Our meals were very nice and of a great standard! Definately a "go to" for EVERYONE VISITING GISBORNE!!!

Went for dinner on a Saturday night that was very busy. We’re seated promptly and told there would be a 40 minute wait for our food due to being so busy. It arrived in 20 minutes. Good pub fare and wide variety including vegetarian and vegan. Good staff. Definitely return.

A disappointing start for the one of the 2 meals was cold after a over half an hour wait. A serving waitress asked how is the meals, mentioned the steak meal, fried and veges was cold. Later a duty manager came out to replace the meal to rectify the issue. A crumbled fruit pie too was on the warm side as the whipped cream didn't melt on the crumbed pie, pity this happened again.

By far the best service we received anywhere in Gisborne during our long weekend here, and friendliest we've had in a while. Food is pub food, which is what you expect (large portions of a selection of english pub style food at reasonable prices) however it's the service that stands out. Nice food, great service and location is good too. We'd recommend and happily return.

Went here as a group for dinner. The server wasn't very personable and seemed to just want to go and do something else. However, an older female worker, who seemed to have been doing a bit of everything, was really nice and helpful. We didn't have to wait very long to be served which was great. The food was mediocre. One of our group ordered the 'Chicken Calypso'; the chicken seemed to be something you'd pick up in a supermarket. It was a thin crumbed chicken fillet that was overcooked with some deep fried chips and a basic salad. Another person ordered the 'Crate'; the 'meatballs' were a few tiny medallion type things that were extremely overcooked. However, the onion rings and popcorn shrimp that were included were okay. We did like the casual/relaxed feel of the place and, even when it started getting busy, the wait staff were quite prompt. Probably wouldn't eat here again but it would be a nice place for a couple of drinks on the weekend.

Value for money!! We went to Gisborner for a couple of nights. My Husband & I ordered the seafood platter between the two of us and a side of fries. It was that good that we went back the second night and ordered the same thing. The staff are friendly and helpful and there was minimal waiting time for our meal. I suggest you book a table though because both nights we went it was at full capacity.

Servers are what they should be, I've had a problem with one server a while back but I don't think she works there anymore.
